It gets better ladies, kids grow up, the house empties out and the time for cleaning returns. It's a sad place really, with the kids gone, but a much longer season of life than this one.Just do as she says, let go of perfect and enjoy this kids along the way. The only thing I would add is stop buying stuff, so much harder to organize daily than to tidy.

Erma Bombeck once wrote a story Why don't you grow up". About all the challenges of kids and cleaning. and then one day she says the house is clean. It's quiet. Nothing's out of place. She can find things and she says into the silence."Why don't you grow up?"And the silence answers back"We did"... Enjoy the time with the children

Yes! I'm trying to recounted mine because that's what takes up most of the time. Tidying and cleaning are separate tasks, but you can't clean before things are picked up and put away, which takes soooooo long when you have far too much JUNK, because we all know that's what most of us have. A bunch of unnecessary junk making our homes and minds a mess!

Thank you for this!! I did this with my family today (husband and 13-year-old son). My son was in charge of the music playlist. We did 1)kitchen, 2)tidy, 3)bathroom (mom)/laundry (dad + son), 4)floors, 5)one bedroom each. We had so much fun and got so much done. 10 minutes goes by fast when you are working together and we didn’t want to stop, so we did 2 rounds of kitchen and tidy. We hit 60 minutes before we got to bedrooms, but I agreed we could stop there for today. My son had the idea to start with bedrooms next time. We’re going to do this every day until our house is clean!! My guys are even excited.💙💙💙🌟🌟🌟

My children are now grown living successful lives. A very happy time....im proud of them. They are my best friends. Sad time too because they've flown the nest. Enjoy each stage of life. Toddlers can clean.. yes i had twins then a single 16 months latter. I was constantly picking up toys. Then i realised if they were big enough to get toys out they were big enough to put them back. I made it a game. They would run around grabbing toys putting them away. When they were 3 i took pictures of the room clean. They would run around cleaning making the room match the pictures. While they were playing the cleanup game i could start dinner.

Om Mama. I'm old like Gen X old . I have special needs kids , I been managing kids for 30 years and we never got past parenting like you do with Littles. I had to come to terms which I have this will be my life perpetually. I gave up on a clean home and time for me years ago. I fell into a deep depression. I been really trying to pull myself out recently, cause wallowing won't change a thing . I was stewing today in clutter and defeat . Watching searching for a way to find the tiniest bit of motivation. Like I don't want to find company in misery. I want to cope better. I stumbled across this gem. I didn't follow room by room cause honestly my kitchen alone was a war zone. A breeding ground for who knows what. I did drink a bottle of water , pop in some Meatloaf for music cause, as I said I'm old lol and cleaned in my kitchen for one hour. OK I have more rooms and it didn't solve all my problems but I feel so much accomplishment. I might be oversharing but , I wanted to say thanks. I'll use this tidy tango method again . Not sure you will see this as the video is older. But thanks for the motivation. You don't know how you made my day .

I opened this video not really knowing what it was, just wanting company while I did dishes (and needed a long video, or so I thought!)
Here i am, 52 minutes later, and the whole house is a bit cleaner as well as almost all the dishes being done (there's a small number of beeswax sandwich wraps I didn't get to, but I'll do them later). What a motivating thing to discover. I've been getting unwell regularly recently and my doctor said I probably have burnout (unsurprising with a full time job and two school aged kids!) so I've been trying to take it easy, but I don't want to house to become a disaster in the process. Your mindset, Ariel, is just what I needed - let go of perfectionism, Time Box everything, get something done and then let the rest go.
Time for a stint on the couch with my cat, who didn't interrupt at all because he is Lazy and just slept the whole time.

An hour long video on my big clean the house day AND the hubby took my kids to the park?! This is the best day ever 😭
EDIT: I posted this comment before realizing that this was a tidy tango, AND I had guests coming in the afternoon. When I started I was feeling like I would need at least two hours to get everything presentable, and that I wouldn't get to relax while I had the house to myself. Not only following the timed video was a great tool to move quickly, but your encouragment throughout the video to allow things to be good enough was also such a great boost! Your final comment about friends being okay with messy houses had me grateful all day for my friend who i knew wasn't going to judge the places I couldnt get to today. I love that story at the end about the two Mum's. I had a similar experience recently....
My best friend called unexpectedly to to say she was in town. My house was in a bad way. Dishes piled high, mess&clutter everywhere, I'd not vacuumed or mopped in ages....
But I realised - she is one of my best friends. I took a deep breath, and invited her round anyway. And we had the best evening together. Just before she left, she thanked me for letting her into my space just as it is. ☺️ She knows I find it hard to have people round when I've not tidied, and told me it meant a lot to her that I trusted her enough to let her in regardless. ☺️
She says when her house is messy, she no longer apologises about it. Instead she asks her guests to "please excuse the choas". I love that 💃💕
When I can, I like to have a extra special clean/tidy before I have people round - I think it helps to makes it special. But I don't always have the time or energy. I'm trying to stop embarrassment from preventing me from spending time with the people I love. 🤗🥰

Thank you, Ariel. It took me 2 months to get to this video, but depression was kicking my butt today and this got me up and moving. You're so right about moving on with life and being real about your messy house. When my kids were younger, I never wanted to have people over because I was so embarassed about my house. I would have the kids' friends over, but always reluctant to bring the parents in because I wanted to go crazy cleaning first and didn't have the time or energy for that. I really regret that now. My mom always had an open door policy, no matter what our house looked like. She had 7 kids, so if she focused on cleaning, she'd never have time for the kids or all the wonderful creative pursuits that made her who she was. I should have learned from her, but I went the opposite way. Anyway, thanks again,. I definitely need to let go of my perfectionism and just do it!!!

Good Morning. I watched some of the video (this one is a little long !!) ..... I have always put on a timer to do housework. 40 minutes of house /// and 40 minutes of me. You can get a lot done in 40 minutes (or however much time you choose). I would never get to do what I want to do without my timer. My girls are adults now but when they were toddlers I would cringe if someone knocked at the door. Then I heard a sermon at church and the message was .... if you have young children at home then hour house should look like it !!!! Seeing your magnetic letters on your refrigerator made me have a flashback !!! I left the letters on the fridge and the girls would play with them (but you still have a toddler so right now is not a good time to do that !!!) Also .... I never got rid of the playpen ... that is where all of the toys went at the end of the day. And ... yes .... you are going to really, really miss your children when they are all grown up. When the time comes the best way to keep a teen's room clean is to shut the door !!!!!

I have a timer on my watch that I set up for times between 5-20 minutes. It has a repeat feature so when it goes off, I hit the button and it resets. I found going for 5 or 10 minutes cleaning, next 5-10 minutes on my tablet or watching TV, next timer vacuum the living room, next timer relax and then so on and so on, allows me to trick myself into getting a decent amount done. After several cycles, I see a difference and that motivates me to clean longer using back to back timers to clean and less and less relaxing.

After 3 kids I have finally let go of the idea of having a perfectly tidy/clean house, clean/tidy enough is good enough! Kids will be kids, they make messes, but that just means they are having fun! I’m done trying to have the picture perfect house, I much prefer having it “ok” and having happy playful kids. We definitely will miss the mess one day as silly as it sounds.

Great chatty video! Your videos are entertaining, provide laugher and fun, and are also relatable and motivational! Nice addition with adding trivia. Love that the the Tidy Tango starts with dance! Gina B from the channel Up to the Beat Fit has dance walk workouts which are fun! For the question about favorite weekend activities: walking/exercise, nature, baking, dancing, and family time are nice! I agree with you, I need to spend more time in nature. Diane in Denmark mentioned last Friday as one of her four self-care assignments she gives in her Friday videos to eat a meal outdoors. Your cats are cute!

Thank you so much for doing another one of these videos. I sooo wish I could invite people over, the state of my house used to be my main concern, but since I made the decision to have dogs, the tidyness if my house doesn't really matter bc the dogs bark continuously when anyone comes near the house. I was told dogs would make my life so much better, but the truth is, we haven't been so locked down until the dogs came along. We can't have company, we can't go anywhere for more than a few hours. We haven't been on any kind of vacation for 10 years. We had to go on a 3 day work thing for my husband's job, left the dogs with my sister in law and came back to both dogs having diarrhea and throwing up. Almost 500 dollars later, their both well again. Anyway, for anyone reading this, thanks for listening to my rant about having zero freedom and never really being able to visit with people even though through declutterring and consistency, I've finally been able to get my house under some control.

@@wendibollinger7647 I'm sure you're right about my mental health, my husband has suggested this, but we've had Teddy for 10 years and Poppy for 5 years, they've gotten used to each other they both have major issues. Just moving from Missouri and all that that involved, now Teddy has attachment disorder and Poppy will eat anything and everything and marks every time he gets the chance, so he lives mostly in his crate. In other words, they would be really hard to rehome. I don't know if I could live with the guilt either. It feels like a no win situation to me.

I know everyone thinks it's horrible, but it's the only option for now. His owner was going to have him put to sleep when we came along, so there's that. This dog marks everything everywhere and consumes towels, blankets, wood, paper, tape, he even ate my nail buffer. He ate the zipper on a dog bed. He feels safe in his crate. It's where he wants to be, he'll sit in our lap for a while, then get up and go in ,what I call his room, and be perfectly happy. So don't feel bad for him. His first owners kept him in a dark basement and threw food down to him.

There was a show on TV several months ago about living in the 1850s. The gist of the show was the cabin walls were not airtight so there was a cold draft most nights. The roof was imperfect. It sometimes let the rain in. The food supply was unpredictable and inconsistent. Therefore, you had a good chance of waking up cold, wet, and hungry.
The family cherished the evenings when they were able to relax after the evening meal feeling warm, well fed and dry.

Excellent info. I’ve been at this for a long time. Always learning. Always tweaking. I do a version of “clean Mama” but also an hour of cleaning every Monday. So much info available now. Many years ago all we had was Don Aslett and Confessions of an Organized Honemaker. It really is about
    1.Having less to manage
    2. Declutter daily, just 5 minutes
    3. Put things away, daily, just 5-10 minutes.
If you find you cannot keep up then you may have more items than you can manage and you may need to reconsider what you own. Keep tweaking your systems until you find what works best for you

I love watching your videos. It’s so wonderful to see a young mother
really enjoying the responsibility for your home.
No, it isn’t perfect but you’re a mother with two young kids, but might I make a suggestion?
When my daughter was little we put on music and I made a game out of her,
picking up her things and helping me put away her toys at the age of two😊
At what age does someone teach their children to up after themselves?
Over time my daughter understood that if she didn’t help pick up her toys, that the toys disappear into mom‘s closet and that’s where they stayed until she realized if she would sign a long to help mom pick up toys I never had a problem from then on….just a suggestion from a grandmother who learned a very long time ago that kids need to feel included in the everyday activities of life. Like you said
Mom is not the only one living in the household, so why shouldn’t everyone help do their part
To keep things picked up it makes it so much easier on everybody😊
Today’s mother has to work outside the home, as well as trying to keep house and get everything done.
    You are so right!
The fact of that life goes faster than you think….
let them be little enjoy them while you can because one day
you’ll turn around and they were all be grown and moving on with their own lives
so don’t stress too much about the household
Mess that mess will be there long after your children are grown and gone enjoy
your life with your children, because it really does go faster than you think don’t blink!❤

I didnt know this wasa clean with me at start. I was just sitting on counch and thought oh a new video. Then saw was nearly an hour. Thought will see what it's about, not intending to do any of it. Just more of a nosey. Then found myself dancing and thought why not... maybe as you told us all to stand and I couldn't help it.... then found myself tidying. Then found I did whole video.
I've still got a lot to do (as motivation went out the window for awhile)
But it has given me a kick start needed. Its certainly better than it was an hour ago
Im kinda hoping one day you'll do your own little full program of stuff. Your kwn webpage or app etc. Like what do you do on a daily. Do you do different rooms per day etc the best of all the cleaning things you've tried. ❤😊

Chronic fatigue... if I dance for 2 minutes, I need a few hours to recover! My son and I slept in on Tuesday morning when my cleaner came round, so she left, and we have a rental inspection this week! I'll skip the tango, but I have 3 days to tick my to-do list off, and it's not much, but if I don't listen to my body, my body will force me to lay down for days!

I have chronic pain and fatigue, too. Yesterday I tried this but skipping the dancing and instead listening to a song that makes me feel good. Then I did three minutes in each of the areas instead of the 10 minutes. That was a lot more manageable but I still made a lot of progress. I was able to recover with just a nap instead of a couple days of pain like I would with a lot of people's cleaning plans.
