FULL STORY: bit.ly/AIRobotYT
Creature Effects mechanic Eric Fiedler details the puppeteering processes behind bringing to life the animatronic "Insecurity Guard" robot from #AI: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. As an homage, key Stan Winston Studio artist David Grasso sculpted the Insecurity Guard in Stan Winston's likeness.

"A.I." was one of the most underrated masterpieces that I know of. I've never been able to understand that. Maybe it was too different an idea. Maybe it made people too uncomfortable. I don't know. But it was utterly amazing and beautiful, and the Stan Winston Shop gave so much to make it so. "A.I." haunts me. Especially those poor broken-down androids. They are unforgettable. Thank you guys and the late, great Mr. Winston for all of the superlative magic!
The year 2000 must have been the peak of special effects technology, perfect combination of practical work and CGI, and everything was still shot on film to boot!
A mix between science and art something amazing
Modern movies just don't come close to the quality of these props.
Said every nitpicker ever
I remember seeing A.I when I was about 5 years old, I ended up coming out of the movie theater thinking that I was a robot! Till this day this movie remains in my top ten favorite movies!
I’m in the same boat as you lol
one of my favorite movies of all time....
god, AI is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I never imagined I can get even more behind the scenes footage from it. Thank you!
Art is art. Being able to get a glimpse into the process is priceless for me. I always appreciate when masters of a craft share their gifts.💖
The movements look a lot like stop motion. So great to see this behind the scenes look. Thank you.
Whether something is CGI has nothing to do with how artistic and creative it is.
ach i love it
such a great movie! These behind the scenes on the robot/puppets are amazing to watch
What a wonderful video. Stuff like this makes me so inspired to go create my next project.
Great work and movie
I love watching these.
This is amazing!
i really like A.I
astounding!
I totally agree with you.
love this movie
flawless...xx
Very cool.
AI needs some More Love!
You have videos of the mecha nanny of the movie Artificial Intelligence?
People I know generally hate it for the ending that feels like it was shoved onto the script by Spielberg in case people didn't get the Pinocchio parallel. They thought it just ended too happy and too fairytale for a movie that had an overall serious tone to it. I get where they're coming from, but my feelings are that even though it ended on an overly sappy note, it was transparent. His mom was gonna die again that night, and he was gonna spend his eternity alone. Not quite happy.
Good point
They used this scene as inspiration for the Necrons in the game Warhammer 40k Dawn of War
So I stumbled onto this video after watching Ghost in a Shell (1995). Nope, those perfect puppets and the fact that this is 2021 didn't scare me one bit :\
I have to re-watch this movie.
Did you have any kind of Halloween 🎃 party at the robot 🤖 dump site set? Just curious 🤔
Pteranodon in the background of the workshop
Anthony Fins, You find all kinds of goodies in this pic if you look close enough. - Matt
Both came out in 2001. - David
Where was that pterodactyl was used? Couldn't have possibly been jp3... was it?
That's the Pteranodon from JP III. - Balázs
I love realistic the main character they created. They should’ve been act to make the Five nights at Freddy’s movie
I think you've got it backwards?
But I thought this movie was made waaaaaaay before jp3?
people who had 'virtual fish' went into a tailspin if their computer fish got sick and would call the gaming company in a panic, the fish were just on their screen and people had names on them etc- I think we would hold robots in a little more affection than is portrayed today we tend to personify things closest to us
Nope. Kubrick wrote the ending. You can even look it up to prove it.
Fantastic puppetry work for a very underrated film.
Always suspected it made humans uncomfortable to see robots like anything but dumb subservient machines. I guess people prefer Terminators.
I think what killed the movie for a lot of people was the ending (Kubrick trying too hard to be Spielberg).
it was his idea Iben spieldberg admits this
iven
I thought the puppet looked more like Christopher Walken...
When I saw this movie I absolutely hate it. I would like to maybe rewatch it sometime to see it fresh, but it just seemed to drag so long, i remember it as being just miserable like it started off ok, and situations just continually got worse and worse untill the very end. Maybe I just didn't get it.
First
i dont like the term puppeteer. I prefer the words "indirect actors". Its takes acting skill to pull off these things.
jeetendrag10acc2 "Indirect Actors" LOVE IT!!!! -Maggie
😆😆😆😆😆
Now a days everything is cgi
Thats just how things are now deal with it
@@mogensschmidt2498 no I’ll continue shitting on it thanks
