    This was a cool experience but the outcomes were pretty obvious.
    First match: both robots independently built around the same weight class for their creators pleasure. Let’s call it medium weight class. America went for a ranged turret bot and Japan for a melee lancer bot. Melee won when it got the charge in especially since these are concept bots and the American bot was not actually created to use live ammunition. Makes sense.
    Second match: America custom built a bot specifically for defeating Japan’s bot that was double its weight class. That’s like a assault mech vs a medium mech in Battletech terms. Really it was obvious Japan was fighting at a huge disadvantage in that and makes sense for America to win. Also chain saw and cannons in a supposedly melee duel lol.

    • @warrenmetzger6516
      @warrenmetzger6516 2 года назад +5

      Wasn't Kuratis designed w Iron glory at least peripherally in mind though? I don't think either battle was particularly fair, (though really fuckin cool both times.) I wanna see them build new ones with weight class in mind, and without knowledge of the others. Maybe remotely operated so they can blow each other up or something :D We could make a real sport of this!

    • @bohemondiofantioch539
      @bohemondiofantioch539 6 лет назад +22

      +GodKingVivec Well yeah, I imagine that's how much it cost the U.S military to build them, the guys who already done all the R&D and have the facilities to build one while not needing to cut through all the legal red tape required for civilians to build their own tanks... but that's not really the point. My point is that these fights are always going to have to be at least a little dumb and impractical because giant robots are an inherently inferior design to tanks.
      You can't just have a competition to see who can build the best 50 or 60 tonne killing machine, because we already know what they look like, we have 100 years of engineering and military tradition, as well as real world combat with human lives on the line (something these events can never simulate) telling us what those look like, and they don't look like giant fighting robots.
      I thought this fight was awesome, and I am optimistic to see what these guys come out with next, but this isn't battle bots, it never will be, and we shouldn't try to change that. There is no point in trying to make this into a game that all the major military powers in the world have been playing better than us for a goddamned century. Imho this sport would be best to distance itself from battle bots and really try to be its own thing.

    I absolutely love the idea of this concept!
    Unfortunately, the technology that we currently possess, simply isn’t ready for this type of sport.
    To me, this fight was clearly scripted for the most part. The weapons, (especially the projectile weapons) were practically useless, apart from the paintball gun(s) IF they had been used to actually blind the opponent. The idea of using an RC helicopter (it wasn’t a drone, as it was being controlled by a teammate outside the ’arena’) to be nothing more than a feeble attempt of being a nuisance, was a completely useless waste. Had it been used to deliver a water balloon full of paint to the cockpit windows etc., it would at least have made sense.

    • @luciazazel2683
      @luciazazel2683 2 года назад

      Would be much more interesting to get rid of direct pilot control (i.e. use remote control, perhaps a virtual cockpit) and, since there are no humans to get hurt, use weapons that aren't....well...medieval. Instead of pathetic potato cannons, use proper guns or explosively formed penetrators, deployable drones with EFPs or shaped charges etc.
      Having to keep humans safe makes it much less dramatic and quite scripted.
      But the costs for such a show would be astronomical... and hell, that's what actual battlefields will look like soon enough, so why bother?

      Cosmoman78 if this takes off I reckon there will be if this properly takes off as a sport but beacause they had like two mechs globally that can actually fight so they were propably went let's just fight them all and see how we do

      i thought the same, but think about this, those are the very first robots ever built of that size and with pilot-able capabilities, this is the kick off start! as team medabots said at the ending, its time to make it a league, add weight balancing, etc. this is itttt!!!
      enjoyed this A LOT!

      The chainsaw was BS but the first one was in the same weight class. They definitely should've set limitations for the second robot though, and probably used something less likely to kill the other pilot than the chainsaw. If that hit a little to the right it would've killed the other pilot, geez. They got a bit too into the competition, I think they've watched too many episodes of Gundam

    • @Chronoflation
      @Chronoflation 5 лет назад +27

      They both had gun, and the chainsaw setup was a claw and chainsaw. Technically that was the only one that went full melee. That said, they could've so easily killed someone with that thing, especially the other pilot. That was just plain not a fair move. Well, being double the weight is also kinda a separate weight class. They definitely needed better defined rules and safety precautions before doing this. Still, pretty cool gen 1 giant robot stuff. Give it 20 years and we might be touching on the tech that they're trying to emulate lol

    No rules for weapons
    No rules for weights
    Really?

      Watch the latest video here. They are now figuring out rules so future possible fights last longer than 10 seconds.
      I agree with you that the first duel was disappointingly short as no real rules where in place and just the heavier vehicle won.
      The rules will hopefully even out the performance of the different weight classes so the audience can enjoy a longer lasting fight.

    Everybody says "so lame" "weird tractors" "a forklift would kill these" could be true but gently remind that technology kinda advances stupidily fast , the first compute ENIAC was of the size of a house and was barely able to have a good amount of ram and everybody said that conputers were trash and they had no future , now look at your smartphone today , it is 10000 times more powerful than ENIAC and weights 10000 times less , this may be lame and slow but everything has to start like that until become more powerful , lighter and faster , even human once were a baby that couldn't do anything for themselves , yet some of them did grow up change the world
    PD: square cube law ? Graphene is the solution

      You’re right, Japan making a mecha that can strafe will make their fighting style more feasible. And I don’t think this will be a sport because the military definitely will step in and take the tech when it starts getting good.

      The Maughan yeah , even the first plane wasn't able to flight more than 100 meters yet we have now jets that easily surpass sound speed , something that sounded super crazy many decades ago , honestly i see mecha future to be cuadrupedal that can switch between feet and wheels , wheels when you need speed and feet when you need to climb or the terrain is difficult (there were tanks that got stuck in mud and nobody came to get them out of it ) but mechas can have alot of forms tho
