that or having the OS built in just tell us that our command interface is initated while running around with urbanmechs just to get bonked by an assault mech
It walking was surprising to be sure, but what really impressed me was the control of the arms. They moved around alot faster than I thought it would, almost 1 to 1 with how you were controlling it in the cockpit. I thought that was crazy impressive, just how you raised your hands up and how fast the arms did the same. Definitely in the early stages, but very promising in where its at, just needs more articulation.
@ezzz9 It is just that, a power and telemetry tether. They said the movement is pilot operable so a big enough battery and wireless telemetry are trivial. But yeah talk about early iterations its still mental
I thought Koreans were playing StarCraft too much years ago. Then they even made the first StarCraft World League. Now, see what's happening? They want real-life StarCraft finally.
@The main cause of warps in all of reality Forget the legs, the arms are amazing, just give it some tank tracks like Johnny 5, each one can move separately, and we're ready for anything! Imagine this 1.5tons jumping off the floor like Johnny 5!
The difference between the original huge clunky tanks and this is is that the tanks were at least effective in combat and was worth continued research and development where this thing wouldn’t do anything well at all . I really like sci fi mechs but in reality they’d be a huge clumsy target more so then the largest tank. They’d either need to be insanely armored or insanely mobile to be worth it.
Well considering that an old man with a walking stick has no trouble outpacing this mech it's pretty harmless. I'm pretty sure if this mech trips and falls over its more dangerous than if it's actively trying to hurt someone.
Mechs are actually a much easier target than tanks and it's next to impossible to actually realistically protect oneself inside a mech. Tanks will be superior to mechs for a lot longer than mechs will even be considered combat functional. It's just unrealistic to use a mech for combat. At least for now.
Interviewer: So what exactly are you planning to use these robots for?? Definitely NOT Evil Scientist: Let me ask you....what would YOU use them for?! Interviewer: Well...... FIghting! DNES: HAha.......... .... SAME!
Got to give James Cameron and his movie Avatar credit where it's due lol... I knew those tech devices were very realistic for the real world from Avatar.
I think that's intentional. They want the mech to always be balanced when walking, so they need to move the mass to be aligned with the foot on the ground. Which is, I'm guessing, why they need the upper part to be similarly weighted to the legs, so it can counter the weight of the lifted leg. The problem is the mass of this mech looks to be roughly equally distributed, unlike humans and birds that have a massive body separated with the head by a neck. Humans and birds, therefore, can shift their massive body for balance while counter-shift the their light head so it remains stable. This mech can't. It would be interesting how they will solve this. My best guess (aside from dramatically changing the bodyplan) is to have wider footprints like a bird with toes that can be curled/retracted when lifted so as to not collide with the other leg when stepping. That way the need for the rocking motion can be greatly reduced, while also adding to the passive stability of the whole thing. Another more clunky solution would be to have an extra mass that can be shifted freely, functionally similar to a two-legged dinosaur's tail.
It would be cool to see the Valve Index's design being implemented into the hand controls. It could be semi-free floating instead of fully free floating. What I mean is that the control system would be strapped to your hands like the Index and you would still be able move your fingers while also being able to access your physical controls for weapon manipulation and computer OS control, but it would also be connected to a series of belts, motors, and other machinery to provide 1:1 arm movement. This way, if the mech's arms meet with any kind of resistance, it would be sent to the control system as a restriction in the motors so you would feel instantly that there's something in your way or if you hit something.
video was posted in august, it's currently April, hold yer horses brutha still going to be another few months before you can throw billions of dollars at him for a mechsuit
@@RedRushOfTheGuardians unfortunately unless they have better stabilization on that thing than I think they do, a GAU will flip it on its back with the recoil. 😅
this would be extremely useful for construction purposes and warehouses on a large scale. eventually a arm stabilizer can be developped for more sensitive cargo
i am thinking this as well, mechs wouldn't do as well as many would think within military contexts but for heavy duty civilian work it will be excellent!
Many places already have automated warehouses. Giving something legs and arms is about the least practical way to do anything. Wheels, conveyors, machinery not mimicing humans for whatever reason, is much more efficent.
I think the precise arm control is the most useful thing on this. Imagine if you had two of these arms on a Caterpiller machine and you just build a huge building with it like you're playing with legos.
Yeah, that's a mech. An exo-skeleton (Exo - external/outer) is a mechanical 'skeleton' that extends along the outer extremities of the body. The first use of such a thing would have most likely being two wooden splints used to strengthen a broken leg. This right here however is a full blown mech. There is nothing exo about it. It's a mini-titan.
Well, we DO have actual exoskeletons right now that function similarly to this (it detects your movement and replicates them with augmented robot strength). The difference is an exoskeleton wraps around your body, this is a full blown mech because you sit inside of it to control it
The first guns were shit, useless and slow. The first phones were shit, useless and slow. The first computers were shit, useless and slow. Everything improves over time, it's impossible to get a new technology perfect the first try
DamnedUsernameThing how the fuck was the first phone shit and useless. And how the fuck was the first computer shit and useless. If the first phones and computer was shit and useless explain to me how the world isn't ran by nazis right now!
They have a good idea but to make it move smoother and more efficiently they should add vr in the cockpit with a walking pad and motion gloves. Just a thought
Kiroho Joka Well you have to train them somehow. And it’s typically more shoving than kicking, to teach them how to regain their balance. Kicking would hurt as they’re mostly metal, or kicking hard anyway.
Glove 🧤 controller and arm controller for lifting and holding anything with sensors to protect anything being crushed or broken. Leg controller and feet controller for walking . Safety sensors absolutely everywhere .
DIC3ROP Pimping it out doesn’t stop any upgrades that need doing , it doesn’t stop anything being upgraded or improved or even enhanced at all . Take a high end racing car 🏎 for instance it has a beautiful outer body work and it is completely pimped out all over , but it is always being improved and enhanced and anything can still be added after every single race . This ROBOT 🤖 will be exactly the same after every use . Improve Improve Improve Always Improving.

People are worried about banning guns in the USA. Imagine these running around lol
Yea
Well considering that an old man with a walking stick has no trouble outpacing this mech it's pretty harmless.
I'm pretty sure if this mech trips and falls over its more dangerous than if it's actively trying to hurt someone.
It get worse.....
Imagine these things running around with huge ass guns( matrix style) lol
guns are probably more dangerous than these, as in i could cause more death in 30 seconds with an AK than this mech suit
Mechs are actually a much easier target than tanks and it's next to impossible to actually realistically protect oneself inside a mech. Tanks will be superior to mechs for a lot longer than mechs will even be considered combat functional. It's just unrealistic to use a mech for combat. At least for now.

... more like leg week!
Charles Myers more like stick your legs under it's legs and let it stomp you, then tell me if it gives a fuck.
there is a set of legs with the same black covers as the rest of the body
Wtf bro?
Insane. Too bad it doesn't have any hip flexors at the moment so it can walk without rocking back and forth, but I'm sure that'll come some day.
That's exactly what I was thinking. If it had more movement in the torso that would help it to move more freely
It's just a matter of time...
Pickle312 what it needs also is graphite screen to map out terrian .
Ofcourse it has hip flexors, how do you think it moves forwards lol
It would be cool to see the Valve Index's design being implemented into the hand controls. It could be semi-free floating instead of fully free floating. What I mean is that the control system would be strapped to your hands like the Index and you would still be able move your fingers while also being able to access your physical controls for weapon manipulation and computer OS control, but it would also be connected to a series of belts, motors, and other machinery to provide 1:1 arm movement. This way, if the mech's arms meet with any kind of resistance, it would be sent to the control system as a restriction in the motors so you would feel instantly that there's something in your way or if you hit something.

Good enough. I'll just travel behind an army of Spot Minis equipped with microwave lasers.
this would be extremely useful for construction purposes and warehouses on a large scale.
eventually a arm stabilizer can be developped for more sensitive cargo
i am thinking this as well, mechs wouldn't do as well as many would think within military contexts but for heavy duty civilian work it will be excellent!
Yeah but i think the Robot really needs some means of rotating his upper Body :) He looked a bit Stiff while Punching but this is hella cool :D
Many places already have automated warehouses. Giving something legs and arms is about the least practical way to do anything. Wheels, conveyors, machinery not mimicing humans for whatever reason, is much more efficent.
@@pauld.b7129 maybe in a standard warehouse. This is still much better for heavy construction in its own ways. Moving giant piping for example
