I genuinely can't think anyone would think "Good job guys, this game is amazing. That extra year of work was so worth it." WHAT WERE THEY DOING THAT WHOLE YEAR
They had no money to actually fix anything and nobody at Arkane wanted to make the game in the first place. Forcing a company that excels in single-player linear experiences to make a co-op open-world title was a massive mistake, lmao
@@thatoneguy8146 Infinite was pretty much made completely in that one year from the murmurs I hear. It went through dev hell where they wanted a bunch of different things in the game like a crafting system or a hero shooter for the multiplayer, Joe Staten had to go in and tell them how to do it. And it's not even exactly 343's fault (excluding upper management, they dropped the oddball hard) because most of Infinite's main employees were just temporary contractors. The fact we got a product as okayish as Infinite was at launch was a miracle, and it's come a pretty long way. Still has massive issues for sure but at least it's not like Siege or No Man's Sky at launch.
At 11:00 in the video, you can see the AI fail to keep up while rotating around him. I had the same issue when I was making a FPS game for a school project, and I just went "I hope no one rotates around an enemy and finds this bug". I think this is exactly what the redfall devs were saying to themselves...
In case you're wondering, the senior Prey devs all left Arkane during development of Redfall. That's why it's like this. Like BF2042, the talent jumped ship and then the interns made the game.
hmm in that case, for some interns the game isnt that bad. Like, as a side project ~10-15 hours a week while they finish school, its actually quite good. not as a tripple A title, of course.
Apparently the devs at Arkane didn’t even want to make Redfall, and they were hoping that Microsoft would shelve the project after the acquisition of Zenimax. Unfortunately for them, Microsoft took a hands-off approach to the studio and the Arkane higher-ups forced the developers to continue working on Redfall.
@@AHeroAlmost I hate when people like you throw all the blame on the developers. They are the most overworked people in this industry, they get used and shit on just to turn a profit. @@Dr.Oofers there was giant turnovers throughout this game's development and still stuff is coming out at what happened while the game is low-key abandoned
My friends and I did one session of Redfall cause Game Pass. We played for about 3 hours during which time we did several missions that involved walking somewhere and shooting a handful of brain dead enemies. One of my friends asked when we were going to start doing the main missions...not realizing we'd been doing them the entire time. My game crashed soon after and we all uninstalled.
The worst part about Redfall is that it was made by the same guys who made Prey, an incredibly underrated and amazing experience. Most of the Prey devs actually left during Redfall's development and those who stayed actually hoped it would be cancelled.
Redfall is one of my favorite games. It was so bad that it made me go play Prey for the first time, which turned out to actually be one of my favorite games.
Pray is extremely underrated, and its kinda living in the shadow of dishonored, which is sad because prey is one of my favorite games. Truly the most underrated immersive sim with countless ways to complete an objective.
I'm a diehard fan of your channel but this storytelling- cutscene parody was one of the best scenes you've ever made. Using such a wide scale of tools of humour absolutely becomes your trademark, and it just gets better. Well played Sir!
Hey, found your account a couple months ago and just started binging alot of your content, never a disappointment everytime I see a new video, keep up the good work, man.
@alex lyster you are both right. The team has changed, but it is the fault of the higher-ups for pushing a live service multiplayer game on developers with no interest, so they all quit
I know! I found Zanny several months ago when my little brother introduced me (an utter video game noob except for a year or two of Atari back in the 80s) to Elden Ring. I had to work myself up to picking up the controller the thing made me so damn nervous. Zanny's pure, contagious joie de vivre and hilarity while getting stomped by the worst that FromSoftware could dish out showed me the right attitude :-). Months later I discover TheActMan - another stellar creator, keeping me informed, entertained and giggling - and boom, Zanny pops up! It figures - two very smart creators with positive attitudes who generate tons of fun back into the community.
I love how they made the choice of showing the magazine tube of the shotgun but you can clearly see that the shells are inserted into the pice of metal between the tube and the barrel.
Oof kind of felt that three round burst. Back when the M16 was still in use, a lot of guys complained that the 3 round burst was piece of shit because you had to squeeze the trigger till you shot 3 rounds, otherwise the mechanism isn't gonna reset itself to shoot another 3 rounds. Don't recommend
@@mrstorch5068 Yeah, they implemented it on the M16A4 because it was meant to be the longer range equivalent to the M4. They didn't want soldiers to go gung ho and dump huge amounts of ammo at a target a long ways away because not only did it waste ammo, but it usually meant fewer rounds hit the target. The 3-round burst was made so that the soldiers had semi-fully-automatic fire still, but couldn't do longer bursts. However, this just basically meant that they used a mechanical issue to solve an issue that came because of a lack in training.
@@no-legjohnny3691"Semi-fully-automatic" makes no sense lol The M16 had 3 round burst since the A2 til the A4 (A3 was full auto because that's what the Navy wanted so that weapon system was almost exclusive to the Navy) You're kinda right about dudes wasting ammo in a firefight, but at least nowadays, it's taught that you should send as much lead down range as you can accurately. If need be, you could fire off a round every 2 seconds consistently (unless you're an MG). Keep the enemy's head down while a flanking element can get around and take em out if you haven't already done so with arty or air support
@@someretardontheinternet I say "semi-fully-automatic" because they wanted troops to be able to have a full-auto function of sorts, but not 'full' full-auto if you get what I mean. I guess I was also under the impression that the A2 was full-auto thanks to the horrible representation of that model has in the media (Left 4 Dead and a few movies come to mind). But to be fair the A2 and A3 really aren't as notorious as the original Vietnam A1 or modern A4.
@@no-legjohnny3691 I get what you mean, but I still wouldn't use that 'term.' Semi automatic implies one round is fired after every trigger pull. Automatic implies more than one round is fired after the trigger has been pulled. Technically, 3 round burst is automatic although limited to how many rounds can be sent while holding the trigger. It's weird, Ik lol. Maybe depending on the year you were born and how much you're interested in guns, the A2 may have not been that well known to you. I was born in the early 2000s and I've seen many movies, shows, and even a few books where the M16A2 was used. It might be hard to figure out which is which at a quick glance so I wouldn't really put it past anyone. Best way to figure out if it's an A2 if you're not familiar with guns or a certain family of guns is the handguard and mag. It gets even easier if there's an M203 attached that sexy ass heat shield. It was definitely very well known and notorious in the early 80s, 90s and early 2000s during GWOT. In the early 2000s, it was still being used extensively by the USMC and maybe some parts of the Army until they completely switched to the A4 and the M4 (USMC didn't really start to use the M4 and M4A1 until around 2010).
Arkane studios is one of the few gaming studios I feel the most sorry for, as when prey and Dishonored death of the outsider they were at the top of their game and after being dragged through terrible game after terrible game and receiving some redemption with Deathloop is being dragged back in by this junk that they didn’t want to make. It’s truely heart wrenching
I feel you, I'm going through the same thing. Arkane's Redfall to me was what Betheada's Fallout 76 was to AngryJoe. Luckily, Arkane's previous video-games are still great when replayed. I'm still playing Dishonored 1 and 2, and just got into PREY recently (due to my hardware limitations and lack of marketing on Arkane's part).
@MetalGearDull yea. I played Dishonored 1 a long time ago and remember liking it, just didn't finish it. I think I'll play em both over the next couple of weekends
Deathloop is not what I'd call a redemption. The whole game was half baked at best and the AI was on par with Redfall with its quality. It only had a vaguely novel concept going for it.
Lol yeah, the ai is very very bad from what I have seen, they can’t even go around objects to get you sometimes. The Ai fights the environment more than the player.
the burst rifle in redfall is based on the M16A2. among other things, one of the big complaints about the rifle was holding down the trigger for a full burst. if you didnt complete a burst, the mechanism wouldn't reset, and so it would fire 1 or 2 rounds. idk why bethesda decided to implement this in an arcade shooter, but they did
I know this is late, but I gotta say. As much as I wish this was deliberate attention to detail, it's far more likely that this was a bug, which is why it feels so odd in gameplay. But that is neat to know about the M16A2, so thank you for sharing that.
Yeah, it was one of the biggest criticisms of the M16A2. The burst mechanism is only valuable if you don’t have sufficient training standards and have to mechanically limit the full auto. The burst mechanism also changed the trigger pull feel in semi auto too, depending on where the ratchet was. That’s why Delta Force always sourced full auto receivers for their guns even though they used semi-auto 99.99999% of the time, since an inconsistent trigger pull would affect marksmanship. All that is why the M4A1 eventually just went back to normal full auto after the M4 kept the burst mode from the M16.
Listen...developers...the reason why the static, non moving cutscenes worked for Elden Ring's intro is because that game's intro was told in a manner of someone telling you a fairytale, or a bard in a tavern signing you a poem. It mythologises the characters which fits perfectly in the world of Elden Ring. Also, they are drawings. Very exceptionally done drawings clearly drawn by talented artists, not stills from 3D models of your engine
About the burst fire trigger thing... That is legit how the M16A2 and M4 triggers work. If you are fast enough you can consistently only fire 1 round by pulling and releasing the trigger fast enough. It gets worse though, it remembers where you were and if you fire a 2 round burst and then try and hold it down for a 3 round it'll only fire one. But that's no excuse, as it was so annoying and useless that the military has began mostly moving away from burst to just full auto with the M4A1, the M27 and now the XM7.
Whoever tf thought it'd be a good idea to get Arkane to make a co-op looter shooter should just be fired cause that is some next level brain rot. That'd be like grabbing Bethesda to make a competitive movement based shooter.

I’ve seen people point out that the reason for their worsening game quality may be because they do not specialize in making multiplayer/live-service experiences. The good games Arcane has produced are mainly single-player experiences.
Different Arkane studios division made Dishonored than Redfall and Deathloop. More importantly, the connecting thread that made Dishonored and Prey both great was Raphaël Colantonio the original founder of Arcane. His absence is clearly noticeable when looking at Deathloop and Redfall. He does have a new studio now, WolfEye studios. Their most recent game was Evil West which was a pretty decent AA game.
Love the *splash noise* with every transition you added. I'm guessing on their side it was the default screen transition behavior in their tools and they didn't know how to change it.
This is the funniest and saddest shit ive seen in a while, great video Actman, also the toilet papper story was more emotional than any emotion I felt playing this game.
In defence of the burst rifle, that's how 3 round burst works in real life, you could single shot or double shot them if your fast enough and you'd have to hold down the trigger for the entire cycle of the 3 rounds for the sear to reset.
that's really only the M16 that works that way. Most burst capable firearms work more like how most video games do: you pull the trigger for a single shot but it still fires off a full burst.
The "character models standing around with narration" thing worked pretty well in Dishonored but was used very sparingly. I'm pretty sure mostly just the endings and sorta the dream sequences but in those you were moving around the frozen ones as you progressed through the area rather than just having the camera pointed at them.
I remember that’s how cod zombies did some cutscenes like that early on but that wasn’t a big deal because you didn’t pay $60 just for zombies you had the campaign and multiplayer. If this game wasn’t such a mess it could be overlooked but man this is just sad.
Joke aside, that what missing from Redfall slideshows. There's no story on them, they feel like random static pictures. Like some powerpoint presentation where they put cliparts because they forgot to take pictures
I remember seeing this game revealed and leaving a comment saying it looked like back 4 blood with vampires. I seriously thought it was Back 4 Blood DLC at first.
11:30 Interesting that the games that were delayed and release bad are all from western companies, while the games that were delayed and release GREAT (Zelda and Elden Ring) are from Japanese companies. Western companies must learn!
The thing you said at the beginning about the "razzies of videogames" is exactly a thought I had last week. The game awards absolutely needs to add a "worst game of the year" award. We need to name and shame these terrible games. We shouldn't let people just brush past and forget about them, only to immediately preorder the next game by the company with false promises. These companies need to feel the effect of releasing terrible, unfinished cash grabs.
I like how a fucking roblox game i play(rise of the dead) at least interesting things to do plus walk cycles and stuff. Sure no va's and all but hell at least its better than redfall. I don't know if you guys heard, but apparently the developers were praying the game would get cancelled or rebooted as a single player title when Microsoft bought them 😂 but Microsoft kept a complete hands off approach, let acclaimed studios work their magic. That's a twist you don't hear often
So basically Microsoft for once put their trust and faith completely in the studio and got fucked for it Which means they'll probably never trust another studio again... Just great....

Quick little story: I actually met 3 of the developers that worked on this game when I was working at the Houston Museum of Natural Science(Still work there) and they admitted it wasn't up to even mediocre standards.
I work in business software development and there is a certain flow to the development cycle: Development -> Code Review -> QA -> User Acceptance Testing (UAT) -> Production. The part that I want to highlight is UAT. In this stage, our clients test the changes that we made and make sure that it is EXACTLY what they ordered and that we didn't introduce any bugs. They go over the documentation of what they had asked for and they double check QA because there are just some scenarios that Devs and Testers don't think of. It's like the old adage: Measure twice, cut once. The point is, nothing reaches Production without our client first giving us approval. There are some times where the code is so complex that some odd behaviors are pretty elusive (so I empathize with game devs) but if it is noticeable and consistent, we gotta patch it out before it reaches UAT. When bugs get found in Production, we basically enter defcon 1. We hunker down, analyze what the cause is, patch it out, test it, review the code, run it through QA, open tickets to deploy to the stage server, run UAT again and get client approval, open another ticket to deploy to production, and finally deploy it (Almost always late at night so we can take the server down for maintenance). It's such a hassle and extremely stressful, so naturally all of the Devs and Testers will refine their process to avoid it in the future. So with all of that in mind, I feel like in game development they changed the process to: Development -> Code Review -> QA (Optional) -> Production -> UAT. The consumer is in charge of providing the second measure of testing AFTER they have already purchased it. It boggles my mind that so many consistent bugs and issues make it to production. The only thing I can think of is that they are developing and testing on quantum computers or some rig that is vastly superior to what is commercially available (A bit of advice for game devs: Never develop software on a rig that is better than what your average consumer will use, because it will never be optimized properly. Add all of your bells and whistles AFTER you have a working model). This is where I have more sympathy for PC ports since there are so many different rigs out there that it is impossible to be optimized for all of them, but it makes no sense when we're talking about consoles. The rigs that you develop on should match what the console is capable of so that you can have the confidence that if it runs in development, it will run in production. Since consoles only have 1 or 2 models, configuring your development rig is easy: it should match the performance of the model with the lowest specs to ensure compatibility. So, in theory, this shouldn't be an issue. I don't know what the development cycle is like in the game industry, but it clearly doesn't work. I have never been in a situation where bugs that affect the functionality of the application are knowingly shipped out anyway in order to reach a deadline.
You've managed to formally summarize the issue with modern Triple A gaming perfectly These big corpos would rather pump out a half-baked mess to get money sooner then worry about having an actually good product later (it doesn't help when people do preorders and early access stuff which justify releasing unfinished games to corpos) While Indie Games aren't technically immune to this problem, for the most part they bring out quality games either on time or in delayed schedules (a delayed, finished game is better than an early, unfinished game after all), and right now Modern Gaming needs to step up their game (pun intended)
I'm not saying early access and preordering is necessarily bad tho, Dead Cells is a beloved indie rougelite that I enjoyed a lot and they're the prime example of early access done right It's just hard to justify doing preorders and early access from big companies, as if digital scarcity exists for some reason (it doesn't)
from what i heard. zenomax wanted this game and the studio heads tried to promote it. but no one wanted to make THIS kind of game. so many left and when recruiting they never told new hires what thew game was till afterwords. they hoped Microsoft would kill the game but the big guy ignored it.
YongYea did a video recently about how the behind the scenes for redfall surfaced and it sounds like they already felt the writing on the wall years before this game’s release. Due to the lacking sales of their recent titles, upper management wanted to due something more broad and mainstream (aka coop live service shooter), but Arkane didn’t have much experience in that (Kinda like Bioware with Anthem). Apparently they were even hoping the game would be canceled or at least changed to a single player experience but the upper management actually thought it looked neat ☠️
And 70% OG employee of Arkane already left the studio before Redfall's release because of how hostile the workplace environment become Correct me if i'm wrong...
@Kemal Rizaldy Kind of can't blame them considering how Bethesda screwed up with fallout 76, and this was in development before microsoft even acquired them. And Bethesda had pissided off the the guy how made the music for the doom games.
Anthem was worse. Dev during game show: “wow that game looks cool, which studio is making?” “In theory, it is us. That’s our game and you’ll program it” “Oh…” They made a trailer with 0 gameplay, with no ideia of what they could actually do.
From my understanding, the issue was that the old Zenimax executives insisted on pushing Arkane into making a live service multiplayer game and gave them contradictive reference material. Redfall was supposed to do all the popular things because that would help inflate the price in a future acquisition, even though it was nothing like the kind of game that the devs at Arkane would have wanted to make to the point where 70% of the devs that had worked on Prey straight-up left. So the game was already a hot mess in the hands of a gutted studio when Microsoft bought them and that's where their policy of letting studios do their own thing came back to bite them, because Redfall really would have needed a soft reboot to become something even remotely playable.
@@finnfinI think it *is* cannon. Arkane is the result of publishers/execs being the problem. Giving contradicting references can make devs confused and make them constantly ask the execs for approval or just be nervous to do anything. I think I remember reading an article about the game’s development, apparently Arkane devs were asking for Microsoft (during the acquisition) to step in and either set the record straight so they don’t have to worry about making the “wrong game”, or cancel the game so they can work on something else.
I hope this will be the last of games with such approach we got fallout 76, wolfenstein the young blood and redfall. I get that in some cases owners (MS) in this case give the subsidiaries creative freedom, but this does not always produce a good result. On the other hand studios should have some (I know some is not very precise term) degree of freedom in what they want to create. Without it we would most probably not see games like Pentiment or HiFi Rush.

The "AI generated videogame" line is so unbelievably fitting. How does this game exist? What on God's green earth is going on behind the scenes for this game to be the way it is?
Game’s running at a lower FPS doesn’t mean less frames. Video games use IK to fill in tweens of key frames (like the Anime AI upscale to 60 FPS) Even motion capture uses some IK
Jason Schreier’s expose article on this game’s development only shows that Modern Gaming needs a complete shakeup of higher ups and management. Most developers are quite literally trying their best, but are getting screwed over by the decisions of their bosses.
It’s unfortunately too late unless the entire system changes. Video game studios are just another example of their industry becoming too corporate and MBA-driven just like almost every industry has in the last 40 years since the deregulation of corporatism has exploded and anti-Unionization has become the norm. A shake-up in the entire system is needed across ALL industries, not just video games. A stand has to be taken against all these ignorant-ass business suits who just care about profits for the lowest amount of effort and investment possible and don’t know shit about creativity and game development
@@Marksman3434 Yep. Socialist restructuring and government intervention is the only way to fix it at this point. Game devs need to unionize, and federal regulation needs to be applied against companies and executives that release games in this state as an incentive to stop doing it. There needs to be REAL consequences and accountability when a game like RedFall is allowed to release.
When talking about the burst fire rifle, Im guessin Redfall was goin for a M4 approach. Burst fire on the M4 requires the user to hold down on the trigger for the full 3 rounds. Not sure why they would implement it in the game though
I can understand slide show presentations as a stylistic choice like in the first 2 Max Payne games, where it enhances the mood. But yeah, the developers were obviously rushed.
I just want to point out that the only reason Tears of the Kingdom was delayed was because the devs wanted more time to make sure the game was polished. They had the game finished, but they delayed it to perfect it. We need more studios that does this.
That part where you show an enemy NPC's broken AI and animation reminded me of a particular session when I played Oldman Roll 4 Oblivion, when Baurus' AI broke at end of the sewer quest. After his dialogue, he suddenly went batshit shouting "STAND TOGETHER!" and proceeded to ran all the way back to where he first entered the sewer. But at least his animation didn't break. Now I need to re-download all my mods and play Oblivion again. My personal favorite Oldman Roll game.

It's bad how hard and fast the LotR franchise has fallen. It started with mediocre hobbit movies but to see it come to this extent, is truly grinding my gears.
In their defense dishonored also use the slideshow style cutscene Buttt imo it works for them because it fits the tone and story of the game, also its short and they actually stylize it to look cool unlike redfall where it just looks like 3d model placed and posed.
@@haikall5479 'Dishonored' only used them at the beginning and end of the game (and between missions in the DLC). Most of the time, emplotment comes from interacting with the environment (dialogue with and between NPCs, reading books and letters, overhearing the periodic propaganda announcements, etc.). However, there are still several animated cutscenes, like the opening boat ride to the Tower, Corvo's arrest and interrogation, and the Empress' assassination.
Hitman 2 did imagine cutscenes aswell, which is kinda jarring since Hitman 1 and 3, even the dlc for Hitman 2, have fully animated cutscenes and just the base Hitman 2 didn't. But even then they weren't too bad (just dont like slideshow cutscenes n general I guess), there was even one scene that I love and still think about from them. Where 47 has a gun to Lucas Gray's head before recognizing him, they have a discussion about 47's past, then it cuts to Agent 47 removing the gun from his head and say "Subject 6" in a realizing way, I know I'm probably rambling, just wanted to add to the convo ahha
There’s a fatal glitch at the final boss where an AoE attack knocks you back from holding X to kill the boss. One final injustice after hours and hours of shit misery
In defense of arkane, most of their games have this style of powerpoint cutscenes, granted in dishonored is this really good oil painting style and dearthoop resembles more futuristic style, the problem with redfall for me is that it doest seen to have any style at all
The reason the game doesn't have 60fps is because all of the money that they were going to put towards 60fps went towards printing out all of the stickers for the physical copies of the game saying it didn't have 60fps.
The burst function on the rifle actually makes sense. In real life the burst only goes as long as you hold the trigger, so if you only tap it you might only pop off 1 or 2 rounds. You have to hold the trigger for the full duration of all three rounds to get a full burst on things like M16A2s
The burst function kinda sounds like the progressive trigger on the Steyr Aug. Though if they wanted to add it to the game, then they should of explained how the burst fire works in the game.
You should start a podcast. One where you either discuss gaming with guests or industry professionals. You have the voice and the investigative skills to make it happen. ActMan podcast!!!

18:44 the ai of combat evolved and half life can't even be compared to this. They attack, retreat, flush you out of cover with grenades, have a hierarchy and change behaviour in low health, and all that goes for both games despite their enemies being very different
The burst on certain models of M16 did indeed operate like what's depicted in game, requiring the user to hold the trigger till the burst stops to fire all 3 rounds, but they might see this comment and call what defiantly is a bug an "intentional feature" of the game, even if it was intentional, its a stupid detail to replicate in game as you need consistency when using a gun, Not constantly guessing if you'll fire a full burst
The three-round burst is an interesting concept because that's kinda how the three-round burst works, where pulling the trigger only a little and letting go will usually only fire one shot. But I agree since COD has taught me to just do light taps on the triggers.
Yeah, in real life, you usually need to hold the trigger for the full duration of the burst, and if you do a quick pull it'll only fire one or two rounds. Also: some weapons, like the M16, "pause" the burst, so if you fire one round in burst mode, the next trigger pull will fire only two rounds, thus "completing" the burst; on the other hand, a lot of other weapons, e.g. the ones made by H&K, "reset" the burst, so if you fire one or two rounds in burst mode, they'll still fire a complete three-round burst after pulling the trigger a second time. This is clearly not what's happening in Redfall, it just looks like no matter for how long you hold Mouse 1/RT, you'll randomly fire 1, 2, or 3 rounds. Even if it did work like in real life, most shooters just make it so that even a light tap fires the full burst; and the realistic behavior of three-round burst is mainly implemented in simulation games like Arma or H3VR. Thus, it would go against the already established systems in games that aren't necessarily focused on realism.
To be fair, the three round burst functionality is probably very similar to guns in real life. I’m pretty sure you have to hold the trigger down so that the seer lets the bolt close and fire again.
@@RusticRonnieThis aspect is also pretty heavily criticized by people who actually used these guns, both due to that inconsistency and the fact that depending on where in the burst the mechanism is at, it could completely change how the trigger feels even when switched to semi auto (how these rifles are used 99% of the time), throwing off your aim. It’s why while the M4 still retained the M16A2 and A4’s burst function, the M4A1 onward went back to full auto. It’s not that difficult to train soldiers to not mag dump, so burst was really only ever a training crutch.
yeah, the M16 has a progressive trigger (iirc) which is how it works IRL, funny how every military FPS get's this wrong, but Redfall of all games does it right (I doubt it was by design tho lol)
@@rakshasa898 It probably was, to be fair. I have a hard time believing a progressive trigger is easier to code then 'gun fires three bullets per shot'.
@@Rassalcon it is marginally more difficult, you need to both check if the mouse is held down and if the increment counting the burst isn't above the limit, should be trivial for anyone even looselu trained.
Also, if you cancel the 3 round burst after only 1 round, the next time you hold the trigger it will only fire twice. Same concept if you fire twice and let go, you will only fire once next time you hold the trigger.

So it was basically full auto but with more finger control?
@@mrstorch5068 Yeah, they implemented it on the M16A4 because it was meant to be the longer range equivalent to the M4. They didn't want soldiers to go gung ho and dump huge amounts of ammo at a target a long ways away because not only did it waste ammo, but it usually meant fewer rounds hit the target. The 3-round burst was made so that the soldiers had semi-fully-automatic fire still, but couldn't do longer bursts. However, this just basically meant that they used a mechanical issue to solve an issue that came because of a lack in training.
@@no-legjohnny3691"Semi-fully-automatic" makes no sense lol
The M16 had 3 round burst since the A2 til the A4 (A3 was full auto because that's what the Navy wanted so that weapon system was almost exclusive to the Navy)
You're kinda right about dudes wasting ammo in a firefight, but at least nowadays, it's taught that you should send as much lead down range as you can accurately.
In the early 2000s, it was still being used extensively by the USMC and maybe some parts of the Army until they completely switched to the A4 and the M4 (USMC didn't really start to use the M4 and M4A1 until around 2010).

the burst rifle in redfall is based on the M16A2. among other things, one of the big complaints about the rifle was holding down the trigger for a full burst. if you didnt complete a burst, the mechanism wouldn't reset, and so it would fire 1 or 2 rounds. idk why bethesda decided to implement this in an arcade shooter, but they did
Knowing how abysmal Bethesda’s weapons design team has been, I doubt this was intended.
Helldivers has this problem too
Man I sure love seeing my boys Zanny and ActMan together, I need more of these two together
Also the rest of Elden Bling was finished.
And the other cutscenes in the game were actual cut scenes. Rendered in-game too. With dialogue.
Dishonred 2 has a similar intro with drawnings. This game was made by Harvey Smith, just like Redfall😢

I’ve seen people point out that the reason for their worsening game quality may be because they do not specialize in making multiplayer/live-service experiences.
The good games Arcane has produced are mainly single-player experiences.
Different Arkane studios division made Dishonored than Redfall and Deathloop. The clip of you spinning around the enemy was hilarious actually laughed out loud. Great edit this video, and great review
You've managed to formally summarize the issue with modern Triple A gaming perfectly
These big corpos would rather pump out a half-baked mess to get money sooner then worry about having an actually good product later (it doesn't help when people do preorders and early access stuff which justify releasing unfinished games to corpos)
While Indie Games aren't technically immune to this problem, for the most part they bring out quality games either on time or in delayed schedules (a delayed, finished game is better than an early, unfinished game after all), and right now Modern Gaming needs to step up their game (pun intended)
I'm not saying early access and preordering is necessarily bad tho, Dead Cells is a beloved indie rougelite that I enjoyed a lot and they're the prime example of early access done right
It's just hard to justify doing preorders and early access from big companies, as if digital scarcity exists for some reason (it doesn't)
UAT! I did some for a non game company. Really enjoyed it and looking for bugs.
from what i heard. zenomax wanted this game and the studio heads tried to promote it. but no one wanted to make THIS kind of game. so many left and when recruiting they never told new hires what thew game was till afterwords. they hoped Microsoft would kill the game but the big guy ignored it.
Insane to know we have a 3 way fight for worst game of the year in 2023. Redfall v rise of Kong v Gollum
And 70% OG employee of Arkane already left the studio before Redfall's release because of how hostile the workplace environment become
Correct me if i'm wrong...
@Kemal Rizaldy Kind of can't blame them considering how Bethesda screwed up with fallout 76, and this was in development before microsoft even acquired them. And Bethesda had pissided off the the guy how made the music for the doom games.
Anthem was worse. Dev during game show: “wow that game looks cool, which studio is making?”
“In theory, it is us. That’s our game and you’ll program it”
“Oh…”
They made a trailer with 0 gameplay, with no ideia of what they could actually do.

@@ΒασίληςΒλάχος-τ3κ the last one was like 2 years ago? With Valheim?
This! this is now my headcanon about the events behind the scenes of redfall. It just clicks and makes the most sense.

Honestly, you can tell that they were probably placeholders for the eventual CGI animation that never came to fruition.
I just want to point out that the only reason Tears of the Kingdom was delayed was because the devs wanted more time to make sure the game was polished. They had the game finished, but they delayed it to perfect it. We need more studios that does this.
Also very recently 'Amnesia The Bunker'. They delayed it two weeks because of a 'rare crash' issue. More devs should be prepared to do that.

That part where you show an enemy NPC's broken AI and animation reminded me of a particular session when I played Oldman Roll 4 Oblivion, when Baurus' AI broke at end of the sewer quest. The reason the game doesn't have 60fps is because all of the money that they were going to put towards 60fps went towards printing out all of the stickers for the physical copies of the game saying it didn't have 60fps.
Underrated comment 😅😅
The burst function on the rifle actually makes sense. In real life the burst only goes as long as you hold the trigger, so if you only tap it you might only pop off 1 or 2 rounds. You have to hold the trigger for the full duration of all three rounds to get a full burst on things like M16A2s
remember though this is a game not real life so there should be an option to be realistic or turn it off and make it easier
Yeah sure realism and what not, but did it cross your mind this is a video game?
The burst function kinda sounds like the progressive trigger on the Steyr Aug. Though if they wanted to add it to the game, then they should of explained how the burst fire works in the game.
Fun shouldn't be sacrificed for realism.
It's actually really neat that burst fire mode in this game is similar to reality ... in being a dog shit feature.

Still sucks ass from a gameplay perspective though. Realism does not always equal interesting gameplay.
Thus, it would go against the already established systems in games that aren't necessarily focused on realism.
progressive trigger.
To be fair, the three round burst functionality is probably very similar to guns in real life. I’m pretty sure you have to hold the trigger down so that the seer lets the bolt close and fire again.
No
@@TheShadowFox1it is how the M16A2 works
@@Luna.Tenebrait’s actually how many of them work. But controllers don’t give the same feedback as an actual trigger

The burst fire is actually how real guns work i believe. You hold to complete the burst but you can cancel it at 1 or 2 if you let go.
yeah, the M16 has a progressive trigger (iirc) which is how it works IRL, funny how every military FPS get's this wrong, but Redfall of all games does it right (I doubt it was by design tho lol)
