public transit is usually meant to serve poor areas in the us or downtowns. Preferably a radial design so everyone transfers at downtown. Make the transit worse so its not packed in suburban areas. Make sure there are delays
Could you create a new city on the same island as Westpoint, but a bit farther back? The city could be called Liberty Haven, and here’s a possible backstory: Liberty Haven was founded in the 1800s as a fishing village and a safe place for runaway slaves. Its location made it an important stop for those helping others escape to freedom. During the Civil War, the harbor was used to repair Union ships. Over time, the town became a peaceful community proud of its history. The old harbor is now a marina where the mostly elderly residents enjoy walking and relaxing.
You should definitely build a mall and some big box stores. We have the (uk theme) store and the (european commercial) signature building and splicing together some of those buildings and custom parking lots will definitely work.
An interesting point I’ve yet to see is that you’re very generous with the green spaces in your urban settings. The east coast of the US is notoriously dense from Boston, Massachusetts down to Washington DC. Don’t be afraid to use more concrete surface areas, or more plazas rather than parks with paths.
Idk why it bothers me so much that there are no gas stations anywhere. Gas stations are integral to society, especially considering how far apart and detached the islands are. Each one should have at least one gas station.
I'd love to see an episode building a new rural farming community. My thought being it was originally it's own farming town, but it has started to become a bedroom community for the urban areas with a higher cost of living. Using some of the content creator pack buildings could give it the feel of a very very old farming town. Adding rail access for commuter trains to this community would also be interesting, in my opinion. This could be on the Cape Autumn land mass, the backside of Westpoint's land mass, or on a separate island all together.
that area in between queens cape and bays end should be an old historic downtown with mixed use buildings that look like rowhouses, and old redeveloped waterfronts, full of parks. just look at king St. in Alexandria, VA on maps, that's what I mean.
It has become your go to onomatopoeia, so you will probably not stop using it but "Yoink" is used in English when you are stealing or taking something in a cheeky way. So the opposite of placing something. Just thought you should know!
To make it even weirder, the word pretty much has the same meaning amongst younger people in Denmark - you can blurt out "YOING" while grabbing the last pizza slice :D
I feel like in real life the waterfront land would have lots of desirable houses built right up to the water's edge. I also think a CBD like Fort John's should be the centre of a fully joined up conurbation with non stop suburban development between all 3 towns/cities
In France, you "rent" a place in the cemetery. It's at least 50 years IIRC. If nobody take care of a tomb for a long time (almost unreadable text), the city can reclaim it.
23:20 The new ville seems quite a bit disconnected to the rest of the places, the bottleneck is real. It could be and old ville by itself, with commerce and stuff, not just a suburban neighborhood. It was a little community related to the train development that ended encapsulated by that. In the future it may be a cool ville to live, kind of a small place with easy acces to the sea for bathers.
ahh Sodofojo, the future of sustainable living, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and just a direct, accessible route to a modern hospital with just a gentle 35° inclined ramp for easy, wheelchair-friendly access!
Autumn could have a city centre near the coast consisting of row houses and the smallest mid density houses in an historic road layout, just small so it still feels like a town.
I suggest renaming roseville to "St. Lucien". It seems like a more standard suburban area that would possibly enjoy its privacy. It has its own schools inside the community as well as being away from the higher density city cores. It reminds me of places like Mooresville, North Carolina.
American here. At least in more Southern cities (which I understand Easthaven is more northeastern), even the biggest parking garage in the game is kinda small. There are usually entire blocks of parking garages, especially around tourism centers like stadiums, plazas, or concert halls. Also many buildings dedicate their lower or subterranean floors to parking garages. Also, I would love to see an ethnic enclave added somewhere with the new content packs. Looking at all the industrial-era ports in the county, it seems like there would be a good number of immigrants that would unfortunately be forced to congregate in a low income environment, which also keeps their home culture alive.
I think would be nice having more connection between fort Jonh and the other isle, as it is the main city, and also some suburbs whose neighbors can commute to the city. Thanks for the content! I love your cities. Congrats from Brazil 🇧🇷
Port John is starting to become a big city, and it will only grow bigger in the future. I would love to see some big city public transport like a metro. Nothing too crazy, maybe one line connecting the island from east to west. This could be partially underground and above ground. Also some renewed busroutes would help out the citizens of Port John.
You could put Massachussets Route 28 underground near Cemetery Hill, and expand the cemetery above the highway, or freeing up land for property speculation
Loving the series Infra! Now that the city is becoming bigger, have you considered building a small airport? Maybe near Forge Point, Pinewood or Cape Autumn?
A note on the Town of Autumn: in the Northeast you generally see the internal organization as state -> county -> town -> village, with towns as the main administrative units for the county as a whole and villages/cities being a place which incorporated separately for any number of reasons (a big one on the Coasts like this is to have a separate relationship with the Army Corps of Engineers who maintain the beaches) but it's usually taxes. For that reason, I think it'd make sense for the Town of Autumn to be basically the same as Cape Autumn, with the incorporated area being a village, which they probably carved out to have their own tax structure
2:46 you should put some fences up to block rock fall onto the roads. or if there is a netting texture you can add onto the side of the hill. it would be a cool detail.
Every time you do stitched-together developments like around 40:00 my reaction is always: "This looks absolutely awful, I don't know how this is ever going to look in any way decent, it's completely ruine- oh, it looks awesome now!". :D Edit: Also SoDoFoJo is incredible. :p
I miss sports facilities. I know that many other things are planned and that people's happiness is also very high, but if we want to be realistic, we need sports facilities/fields of all kinds. Since we are talking about America, obviously basketball, baseball, American football etc... I could personally imagine a sports program for the Queens Cape university. it could be a bigger stadium where American football is played. And in the future, other sports and other teams could be at other universities. (one last thought: the name of the team could be Fort Jhon Pirates) Thanks for the videos!
Hey, great episode! Could you please show some statistics of trafic and potential bottlenecks. You are so great at building infrastructure. I love love to se it in function!!
With a 1.8% unemployment rate, but 1400 open job positions (5% of total job positions), I would struggle calling the current situation healthy. I feel focusing on high density commercial and the French high density office (since it isn't that tall) might be necessary, mainly along the edge of Fort John). As you mentioned in a previous episode, you need to develop the waterfront. Perhaps you could add a promenade with pedestrian streets, trees, and benches, but every so often, terraform a little plateau into the bay where you can combine those commercial assets into small towers. On these locations, back in the day, towers were located that guarded the city against attacks from sea. Those pesky Brits and all that.
Hey infra, may I suggest building a highway that connects fort John to the city of West Point? It would be a nice addition and generally improve the commute between the two places. Hope this new year has started well. :)
Congratulations on fixing the economy, the unemployment and homelessness at the same time. The economy is as healthy as it ever was. To fit into the American theme there's probably time for some big market collapse.😅 Also, I wanted to ask you for a few episodes as I'm not able to find it on PDX mods (the search engine is worse than Steam if it's possible) - how did you get the narrow pedestrian paths? I tried making a custom one using the road builder mod but it didn't allow me to do so...
Around 21:24 When you builded the road under the train track, you left a pillar in the middle of the road! It's not that horrible, but just bad enough, to trigger my ocd! Can you fix it please!
The waterfront skyline reminds me of Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast in Australia. I wonder if you can input some sand and make a beach vibe along the bay?
How about using one or two of those new tiny '1 square' parks in the green space across the Medical Centre? I really like that building you built there. Very nice.
Great build! love the series. But if I'm honest I don't love the first green roofed resi building. its too complicated and has too many conflicting shapes etc on roof. In real life either it would be much smaller in area or have a courtyard space as otherwise there would be unused space in centre of building with no natural light!
You've been merging the same building from the UP theme, but I think you can try merging different UP building with different height together next time. They all having the same theme and roof design make them merged exceptionally well together even they have different size and footprint.
commenting on the "grand soviet-style" housing blocks, I would love to see a modern Eastern European city in all its grey and colourless concrete glory (I don't know how many assets or mods there are that could make this possible, so it's fine if you just can't)
We don’t have Chinese assets in the game yet, and the Japanese assets aren’t traditional in that sort of over-the-top kichy way you see in American Chinatowns, but given that Easthaven Count is a fairly historic and important east coast urban area, I think a Chinatown would be appropriate (which you could just make a Japantown with some props and the Japan pack medium density assets instead. Japantowns aren’t really common outside the West Coast but it’s what exists in game already and I think an ethnic neighborhood is highly appropriate given that they exist in most of America’s cities of sufficient size).
The island with the main city on it is already pretty full - you could maybe put it in Westpoint on the other side of the train tracks, and make it look dirty and maybe not super well maintained. A lot of ethnic enclave neighborhoods coalesced in the areas of their cities deemed less desirable, and afterwards highways, railways, and industrial infrastructure were often placed nearby since the residents had the least political power to fight back.
Given the lack of undeveloped space near Fort John’s downtown it could be put somewhere in Westpoint split from the downtown by the railway, since railways, highways, and other pollution sources were often driven through/near ethnic enclaves instead of white areas.
I think the area needs a complete public transit revamp. Maybe the old company serving the city went bankrupt and the area got a ton of new grants to build a bunch of transit
Adding another major city with a dueling skyline, with maybe more of the modern blocks and smaller, but more dense on one of the islands or further out would be good. Two dollar twenty also did a fanatic episode of a warehouse district you could try. It would help enable sprawl vs. just putting down row houses, etc. to expand. You also may want to check into transit, it seemed like alot of the areas didn’t have any metro services and from what I understand that can also impact homelessness in the game.
It looks as the freeways are oversized for the development in Fort John. Maybe downsizing would give me space for development. There are some unnecessary lanes and faster roads.
Mr Mayor, we are in due need of an expansion in the county. Easthaveners are complaining that there is not enough space to continue population growth. We asked locals of the county for thier thoughts. "I'm tired of the upzoning, things need to change soon!" said Lucy Starr, resident of Chowder Bay. "I'm all for new housing and transit but could they NOT remove mine? Its bad enough I couldn't afford the rent, now I'm almost guaranteed to be homeless? What is this?!" Said Patrick Hanz, resident of Roosevelt Heights. What do you propose Mr. Mayor?

At least two
@@Infrastructurist omg you actually replied. Nice!
@@Infrastructurist i do agree it sounds 1984'ian lol. Like the world runs on oil and if anyone says otherwise they go missing from society.
Roseville should have a shopping center on the nearby point to handle the commercial needs of the suburb as it’s a pretty far drive to west point.
