Tbh you should give it a try again. There are so many mods that completely change the game. I recently added a ton of hard realistic mods and visual mods and I can’t even get into orbit now cause of how hard it is. I also have to worry about kerbals livability, food, water, waste, oxygen, and make sure kerbals are kept happy and keep them in shape by working out. There’s also radiation now that changes how u build ur rockets. Solar flares that can knock out ur systems completely. Full weather with storms. New ground stations on kerbin and colony mod with interstellar travel to 4 other star systems the list goes on
@@slayerficated well with over 3k hours in the game and have done everything, it gets stale. I can build a rocket or plane and launch it for a mission and return in one try. So with these mods it’s like learning the game over again.
It’s a real shame that the Science Bomb exploded because I *believe* that the Volumetric Clouds mod allows you to go roughly 50K meters BELOW the “stock jool kill sphere” of -250 meters. That said I had about 200 other mods installed when I went down there so idk but it gave me some new science messages which was cool (and also the clouds get VERY ANGRY)
It's so awesome. When you dive deep into the negatives, there's a second cavity between cloud layers that is entirely devoid of light except for the frequent lightning strikes revealing the terrifyingly angry purple cloud layer that you've been sinking into for the past 20k meters.
@@thegamesforreal1673 no offense but i'm hoping he makes another video on this so try not to spoil anything ig. There is a third (and maybe fourth? idk my probe was obliterated early) cloud layer so not all hope is lost.
For roleplaying purposes* it makes a lot of sense to abandon the parachuteless capsule even though it survived the impact; because realistically the Kerbals might not have survived the sudden stop even if the capsule did. * I think "roleplaying purposes" might also be the term you're looking for when talking about the probes on pistons etc. during constuction and at around 25:00. Whenever you do something that is completely redundant or even deleterious for the actual game mechanics but you do it anyway because it makes more narrative sense or sense in real world physics etc, that's really a form of roleplay.
Shit terrifies me tbh, it's like diving into the crushing depths of the sea, except it's all angry air instead of water. Not to mention the storms and all other kinds of phenomenons up to and including unimaginable cosmic horrors.
that gave me quite an idea a karborundum harvesting platform that flies through jool's atmosphere with a harvesting scoop, and once the karbroundum tanks are full, it flies back to laythe to transfer the karborundum to the laythe kolony's storage facilities, and when i need a lot of cash, i will ship some of it to kerbin breaking ground's propellers work really well in thicker atmospheres like jool's it will use rapiers and nervs most of the way, then switch to propellers once it enters jool it will be launched from my laythe base, i already have a spaceport and factory complex on laythe's polar caps
The capsule only survived water impact because PROBABLY it was just outside the 250m physics range after Bill parachuted. It must have been barely outside, because Bill was also very low on the 280m when he jumped. Very smart of Matt to think of that and make the capsule survive, aha !
Absolute banger video Matt. When things go wrong it makes it much more interesting. Especially if they are things you've done and not just bugs. Hope you're well old chap. Looking forward to 10 years!
for a moment when matt was in the tracking station, i couldve sworn i saw a celestial body somewhere between jool and duna... im probably hallucinating though
I just found your channel, this is the second video of yours that ive ever watched. Just wanted to say: I love your voice and the way you speak, its so calming.
remember the old airships mod/s? I always had trouble with the crafts staying at their designed altitudes or even just not falling to the ground when switching to other craft years back. Maybe they have been fixed, and maybe its possible to build a semi permanent modular "space" station within Jool's atmosphere. That would be a fun mission, restaffing a floating laboratory in the skys of jool.
36:00 i remember someone making a video about a spinlauncher in ksp and found out that physics stop working after a certain distance from the camera, that might be why the capsule survived
yeah, the physics range is actually pretty small in ksp, and anything outside of it is basically unbreakable the same person who made that spinlauncer(presumably, I imagine a lot of people have done that project) used the limited physics range to make a stable bridge
I dont think so From what i remember, when part is outside physic range (~2,5km) and have trajectory, then its get destroyed below some altitude level Also when launching a rocket and decoupling engines/boosters we could still hear them exploding after hitting ground
do not know if such mod exist, but maybe a mission where a station with ballons or something that could permanently stay in a gas giant, similar to stars' cloud city from episode V
The capsule surviving is something that just happens sometimes lmao. I've had a large SSTO hit the ocean at like 20+ m/s without any damage. The angle of impact definitely helps sometimes but I've seen direct vertical impacts cause no damage
RUclips was trying to tell me this was going to be released... it kept recommending me the original, lol. Great video as always, and wonderful recreation :)
I have over 3k hours in ksp and I’ve never done any mods that change the core game that much. But recently I added a ton of really hard realistic mods and visual mods. Least to say I can’t even make it to orbit anymore due to how hard the game is now or my kerbals easily die and I love it!
honestly I'd love to see a thing that's... maybe a short multi-episode series, doing a multi-launch construction in orbit of a massive vessel to go and do all the science experiments on every planet and moon maybe having one of those life support mods to make it so you have to either provide ways to grow more food mid-mission or keep most of the kerbals in stasis most of the time, as an added logistical hurdle
also, the sharper nose of the crew capsule can improve the aerodynamics of the vessel, which is irrelevant when your power-to-weight and courage-to-self-preservation ratio are higher than one to one!
I'm pretty sure the original video of this was my introduction to KSP! I originally found this mobile game called Spaceflight Simulator (SFS) and I was watching videos about that when this was recommended.
This was genuinely exciting! I can’t help but be a little sad, thinking of what could be by now, had things been different. But whatever. You still make great KSP content.
