Little design decisions even down to the USB port screwdown area and the removable standoffs shows that they really paid attention to the right details for this. They seem to really have an ear to the ground on the community lately and its appreciated. I think when i inevitably pick up a wooting, i'll probably go with the tofu redux option. I was always concerned that I would hate the sound too much to use it after having customs for so long but this is much closer to something I could daily - might be time to pull the trigger. Also that mental health gray out section got the stupidest fucking laugh out of me.
Great to see that not only vendors, but Wooting itself is open for some modding on the keyboard. Slapping a more forgiving plate (as FR4 or PC) plus a softer tray-mount like case (Salvation) will bring the tyoing experience and sound to a more consistent and endgame-like that might rival some premium boards. This is exciting to see :)
I haven’t experimented with any aftermarket plates yet - mostly because I know what a challenge its been for Wooting to offer them and not impact the functionality of the board in any way. But there’s some exciting stuff coming from them very shortly 👀
@@badseedtech are you allowed to say how soon that is? I’ve been meaning to get one but would want to hold off until I can see how everything feels/sounds :)
I looked long and hard for [anything like] this video before I ordered the redux alongside my wooting 3 weeks ago... so when you posted this I just had to cross my fingers and hope I got it right. Super excited that gamble paid off! I just received my SMKeyboards polycarb plate for the Wooting, so I'm stoked to put it all together when the board and case arrive in a couple weeks! Thanks for all the insight!
That stock foam sounds great to me! either way, amazing mods! 12/10 The only (initial) problems of the wooting for me was the plastic look and sound and now it's great! :D (Love the humor also) hahah Great video!
Switches are the biggest gripe for me and the sound on the lekker switches are the biggest set back for me. Already have my wooting sitting in a Fjell so will just be picking up those new switches. Thanks for putting us on
Someone finally covered the Gateron KS-20s! Have the white KS-20s on hand (supposed to be a little lighter than the orange) and am just waiting on the chassis (decided on the Freebird60) before sitting down to hand lube them. Great content as always, appreciate the Wooting mod vids!
Great video as always, super informative and interesting I have been waiting for another mod video for this BEAST of a keyboard, definitely will be picking up one of these!
i bought i tofu60 v1 off r/mechmarket a week before they dropped the redux. obviously i still bought the redux... but wtf... followed your first video for building last time so this video is awesome to see.
Great video BadSeed, I gotta say I really liked the part where you slow-mo'd the pull apart from the two foams. I just did a custom Wooting 60he build for me brother, I spray painted the mounting plate black, installed some sound damp mods, hand lubed lekron switches (took about 1.3hrs), custom tag on default case and got black transparent keys with japanese characters. Incredible build and my first time doing a custom keyb. Your videos have 100% helped with getting this present to my brother, I cannot wait for reaction
Thanks for the review as I have both the case and switches in my cart but, I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I think now I'll just get the case and brass weight. Excellent review as always!
It's so nice to see something like this happen, instead of vendors always fighting each other and trying to use proprietary specs. I don't play anything that needs the tech and I need at least 65%, so it's not for me, but this is nice to see.
You can pretty much turn the 60HE into a 65% or 75% using its mod tap function. It very powerful, allowing you access essential keys without having to access an Fn layer. I was also on the fence since I'm a coder but after using it for the past few months It's pretty much my daily driver. But if you really need a numpad, then I guess anything less than 100% is not for you. Or you could get one of those external numpads that are all the rage these days.
@@Laughing_Individual I did look into mod tap but it's really not for me. I am a translator and a lot of the times I'm not typing as fast, because I'm thinking along as I type, so I have very bad typing habits, like pressing shift for a capital and holding it as I pause to think twice about the word I was going to type, then type the key or let go on the shift as I decide against it, or I simply end up tapping the shift as I immediately decide against the word. Mod tap would wreck havoc for me. Also I don't use the numpad. I go for 65/75% because I often sit back to read stuff, be it a client's long-winded instructions or just pre-reading the content I'm going to translate, and I want that easy-going one-key PgUp/PgDn/Arrows. This is also why I don't use any 65/75% with blockers or screens that take away the keys. When I get the occasional job where I have to press a lot of shortcuts in the navigation cluster, I pull out my TKL. But really ultimately I don't need the technology of the Wooting 60HE because I don't play the type of games where it matters. So there's very little reason for me to go to lenghs to make it work for me.
I put the new L45s on my main gaming keys and left the l60s for general use and you really can tell a difference with the l45s they do feel noticeably lighter. Personally I'm going for that wooting case it looks great.
I also bought L45 expecting them to be lighter but they are exactly the same as L60 with 50g spring and the new switches have smoothness issues so I just kept using my old 50g spring swapped L60. But yeah if you didn't get the springs when they were selling them I guess that's the only way to get lighter springs now. I would still spring swap it and keep using the old L60
With the custom keyboard scene slowing down, I think there's definitely a market for the Wooting60HE; with the addition of POM plates. But ultimately the star of the show is the keyboard itself, it's virtually flawless when it comes to performance IMO Great video!
@@ellowell8160 An abundance of GMK keycaps sitting on shelves for starters. The Discord servers I'm in are littered with keyboards for sale, with most of them unbuilt.
Ik this is 2 months old, but you use the standard screws. You might have to push down just a bit to compress the orings, but the burger mount is for better isolation of sound to to dampen the "harshness."
KBDFans now sells 3 plate options compatible with the wooting FR4 ANSI Plate (with switch pad) Carbon fiber ANSI Plate (with switch pad) POM ANSI Plate (with switch pad) Which one would be recommended?
Having finally gotten my board in hand I think it's just hard to make these switches sound good since there is a giant hole in the bottom housing of each one for the magnet. Ultimately I hope that Gateron is able to refine the design of these so that the bottom out and upstroke of the switches doesn't sound so bad.
There is a reason why people measure front height from the top of the stem from the spacebar switch to the table, and that is because theoretically speaking of course, I can technically make a 0mm front height board if I just remove the front wall from my design, however that doesn't change the typing position in any way.
Wooting is making their own aluminum (or aluminium if you're fancy) case. It does have a gamery look and the hook for the strap is also there. I think they said on their Discord that if all goes well, it will be released sometime this September.
Love the video! I can't wait to get this case for my wooting. Also I see that Pwnage Stormbreaker on your desk. Any chance we're getting a review of that mouse? 👀

Removable standoffs are awesome. Now we just need the 65 version too. I like the old weight though that you can see if for whatever reason you flip your keeb. Same goes for the wooting, wouldn't mind seeing a more pc user focused version of it that has arrow keys at least ;D
