- Finally taking a look at the new Wooting 80HE. This finally gives us a form factor closer to what people have been asking for along with some other improvements that result in less customization than we've see on the 60HE. But do you NEED to mod this board? And is it still best-in-class now that so many other hall effect boards are out there?

To clarify one point regarding sound and feel: I have a VERY high bar when it comes to this bc of my background in customs, but on the gaming keyboard side - if you compare the stock sound and feel of the 80HE to the Razer Huntsman v3 Pro or the Steelseries Apex Pro, the 80HE absolutely walks on them.
Seeing a lot of comments too that the firmware on the op's boards is not always consistent in game so I'm going to be running a Boog75 as my main board for the next two weeks to weigh the experience and I'll get back with another video on that.
does it dance on them with fancy footwork?
@@MikeNovelli I would say yes :)
Will you be reviewing the new GMMK 3 HE?
Ordered mine in May said it be here in Oct. But got email update now saying Nov.
i can't wait for the wooting fanboys to scream at you for having things about the keyboard you don't like.
Wooting really killed it for me with customer support!
I bought a Used Wooting 60HE and it had a loose contact at the USB-C connector wich sometimes mid round just disconnected. So I wrote them and without asking for a bill they sent me a whole new Keyboard and said after i received the new one I can send the old broken one back so they can repair it. I didnt have to pay for anything and i had 0 seconds without a keyboard in this whole process. Thats how customer support should always be!
CS is a huge, HUGE reason to buy from a particular brand/place. Literally a game changer. I hope they keep it up....
So, you expect me to believe Wooting took a $300 risk by sending you a new keyboard without any proof of purchasing your used version simply because you emailed them?
@@Silver_Joystix they actually did... i thought it will remain broken or i had to pay for repair but it wasnt even 2 years on the market so everyone got the warranty
@@Silver_Joystix this is what they wrote:
Hi .........,
Thanks for reaching out, and apologies for the time it's taken to get back to you.
It's unfortunate to hear you're experiencing issues with your keyboard.
According to the sticker on the PCB it seems to not be much older than when you purchased it.
We're not yes keeping track on serial number basis yet, but so far there are indeed no 60HE's out of warranty.
If you're inspecting the soldering around the USB-C connector, are there any cracks in the soldering visible? Cause sometimes its easy to reheat a cracked soldering point to repair the connection, and can be the fastest and easiest way to get you going again.
Otherwise, please send your full name, address and phone number so we can send you a replacement PCB to swap out, as we don't have you information in our system yet without an account.
Depending on your location I'll send the return instructions for the defect PCB and when you update us with the activated tracking for the return, I'll send out a PCB to you ASAP.
Let me know if you've got any questions or need any additional support.
Thanks,
- Nicky
after i sent them my adress i got a whole new keyboard within 2 days
@@Silver_Joystix Why wouldn't they? If they receive nothing back (the broken board) they would have all of OPs contact info to bill him if need be.
I know this isn't ground breaking at this point, but the big difference to me is the Wootility software. Their software is leaps and bounds ahead of almost everybody else's out there.
Thanks for the always useful and entertaining content Brian!
basically the only reason I choose wooting, other HE boards *other than RAKKAs* software is subpar and a buggy mess according to reviewers.
Nuphys software is as intricate and competitive when it comes to features and quality.
plus no need for software as it works with Linux too
Nope, Keychron is as good
from the multiple reviewers I've watched across 95% of he boards
The Lekker V2 manufacturer is Grain Gold/Hejin. They make many magnetic switches including the Geon Raptor HE and Raw HE switches. 👍
The jade pros and maxes will dunk on any other switch. The maxes are going into my 80he

The audible sigh before having to say out loud, "Rappy , Snappy" lol
And you could almost feel his rise in blood temperature before saying "Snappy Tappy".
The reason why so many (including me) will still choose Wooting is probably,
because they have by far the best software and
they are one of the few brands which make their keyboard available in so many form factors.
Of course they have extremly good customer service as well.
Well and you do not have to buy new keyboard to get new feature
I'd take the wooting again over anything else. Not only befsuse it's an amazing keyboard, but also because it's made by some keyboard enthusiast crazy Dutch people and not some Asian multi billion dollar company who couldn't care less about their customers
Exactly, and Wooting's 4 year warranty is great too 😊
One issue with the chinese wooting clones is their software is often a bit inconsistent in game. It'll work 9/10 times but every so often you get a random press or release that doesn't work. They also tend to be scuffed with updating new features (for example many chinese clones now have socd/snaptap - but their socd still has a lot of quirks and bugs to date).
was gunna say pretty much the same thing, alot of the clones fall short on real world performance, do they work yeah for the most part at least well enough for most people, but ive seen some weird inconsistencies all the way from the rapid trigger reset falling further and further down till the key just wont press unless you let it all the way up, to the rapid trigger (on adjustable RT set at .1 catch and release) causing dead inputs till you turn it down to like .3 -.5 in the RT settings
yea, I'm kinda surprised that nobody has made a universal keyboard software for hall effect keyboards like qmk and via
only took like 3 years! congrats!
The keyboard is good, but what's better is the software nad 4 year warranty. It's just overpriced, you can get similar quality for half the price and now there's so many different options for Rapid trigger keyboards from Chinese companies.
Hi!
It's certainly enough that I want to buy a Wooting over any other brand, and I can't be alone.
I hope you're alone because brand loyalty on any level is dumb. I'm saying that as part of the founder's campaign for the 80HE. I think the Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 might be a better option. I don't have the gen3 obviously as it just came out but it probably sounds very similar except it has more features and more software tools that are useful like auto-swapping profiles. Granted you do need to use the standalone app for that and it has been bloated over the years with the addition of Sonar and Moments which is so dumb but it does offer more features on the keyboard itself with an included magnetic wrist rest, media controls, the screen and metal faceplate as well as more software features now for $20 more.
I will dump any brand any time if there's a better option whether that's the best option outright or best for the money. It could have the dumbest name to ever exist for a company but if it's the best product I will use it. All consumers should do the same, brand loyalty only helps the company not the consumer and we've had plenty examples of that in recent times.
@@Abadeez Yeah, I was being somewhat facetious. Having said that, and based on the many reviews I've seen (and heard), it seems that for the time being at least, Wooting is a brand that garners respect and admiration. Also, I'm happily typing this on my HyperX keyboard, which is not exactly a premium product. I'll be happier still to spend my wife's money on the upgrade. ;)
@@danwebb6766 haha i had fun reading both of u! I'm currently torn between wooting 80 HE vs Apex Pro TKL Gen 3
@Abadeez Honestly, the software, top tier PCB, decent switches (could be better tbh), and the 4 year warranty and fantastic support is reason enough that Wooting, at least to me, is literally unbeatable. If anything am waiting for more switches to release for HE as well as aftermarket plates and cases, but for the PCB itself, to me it's 100% endgame for keyboards.
saw the wave of 80HE reviews and was hoping we get one from this channel as well, since you always deliver some of the best quality in my opinion and you delivered, thanks as always!
Man, I've been loving your videos for years now, and this really might be the best yet. This is one of the most concise, informative, and entertaining videos I've ever watched. I'm genuinely surprised at how fast and effectively you managed to get the heats of both significant and more miniscule information out, don't think anyone else could have covered it this well.
I love the Lekker V2 switches! I put them in my 60HE with the Alumaze case, and they’re night and day compared to the V1. I prefer the 60 weight because the 45 feels too light for me when typing.
Maybe a weird question but is the v2 much better with wobble? It’s noted they updated it but didnt know the 45 and 60 meant spring weight so I was going to get the v2 60 for my movement keys in games like Tarkov where inputs aren’t as touchy it feels weird with W wobbling on full press. Debated on jades but don’t need a whole board worth of keys when it’s just movement keys wobble affects for me
@@DomerSimpsnNope the v2's are still pretty bad
@@ITSecNEO shit then I’ll probably need to upgrade to the lekker and fingers crossed
@@DomerSimpsn Or you live with the V2 for now and upgrade later if you have more money ready
Thanks for the review! I don't normally comment but your review came at such a great time. I've been debating between the 60HE and 80HE myself.
I do really appreciate the universal PCB layout of the 60HE like you mentioned. I wanted to pick up the 60HE module do I could slot it into my own 60% case but I do like my arrow keys and function row. So the 80HE is definitely a tempting one.
As a side note, I miss the "Are you ready? Let's go!" Haha that always made my day
You can just remap some of the other keys to arrow.
You can switch out keys and reprogram them you know?.
You could for example buy another keyboard layout and have more total switches and make your own layout by swapping a few ones.
@@gucky4717 what? you don't have to switch anything to remap keys? and you certainly can't use a second keyboard to add more switches.
@@clarkettinger6958 I meant the keycaps.
When buying the keyboard from Wooting you get a fullsize set of keycaps.
And depending on what layout you buy,: ANSI, ISO or JIS, they have a different number of total switches on the keyboard.
If you don't have a 60HE yet, you could buy one with more total switches and change keycaps to get your keyboard with arrowkeys, while still having a complete ANSI for example.
@@gucky4717 I mean, I guess, but then you lose other keys like "/" or "shift"
I have a 60HE, and I have the 80HE coming. I have tried a few other hall effect keyboards like Arbiter, and I have to say the software of Wooting is such an important thing to consider. Some of them have been such a headache to deal with, and Wooting's just works and doesn't randomly revert your settings.
Just to show my support for what Wooting is doing for the community and the customers, I'll buy one of their keyboard for my brother as a gift. I can definitely understand for some the cheaper alternatives may be the only option available both market wise and financially. But those who can show their support in any way, both by posting support or buying Wooting products, should. These type of caring attitude should be praised. 😊
Bro you have become my new favorite techtube guy!! Keep up the articulate intelligent work my friend your channel will most certainly grow
Very thourough and honest review! i just got my 80HE last week and i am super happy as it is my first real mechanical keyboard. as you said for me it was also about supporting a brand that inovates and is not a cheaper copy.
Is wireless Hall Effect likely going to materialise? Great video!
that snappy tappy joke got a HOWL out of me
This is the keyboard I really wanted, but it kept getting delayed so I just bought a 60HE instead. Really happy with its performance
While i do love the Gat Jades, I definitely recommend checking out the new Geon Raw HE switches. Coming from the enthusiast side of the hobby, I was very impressed with them in my own 80HE
Do they have better stem wobble than the lekkers? That's my only real complaint on the 80he
mine comes in november so the wait has been quite long but even if there are better boards by then, i still feel this was the right choice for me to pair with my Q6max keychron. ik we shouldn't ever put blind faith in companies and stuff, or ever trust them completely but Wooting (imo) deserves a fair bit of that for their transparency and community focus, which is something that is painfully uncommon rn
I (and many others I think) would really like to see a Wooting TKL, it's just the best formfactor for a lot of people.
But why? You want scroll lock or something? You can get all of the useful homecluster keys on the kb already
Bought this after looking at your review! My christmas present!
Looking forward to my delivery.
Very in depth review Brien. Glad to see ya back on brother. 🤘💪
Thanks for the video! Still waiting to receive my wooting and im exited to own a premium keyboard. Coming from the hyper x alloy origins, this 80HE is going to wipe the floor with my previous keyboard. Well, on to the next review. haha
_New King or LED to the party._
Thanks for the review, Brian! If Nuphy does well with low-profile HE, I wonder if Wooting will follow.
Not holding my breath for Wooting to follow Nuphy but I’m *very* interested in where that’s going. Would kill for a 75% low pro HE with sculpted key caps (like the low pro cherry from keychron) and a slim bezel. Aaaaaand make a *southpaw* full size…. (I can dream)

Good for people that like TKL. I went 60% and will never go back. Woothing 60HE is the best!
Do NOT under any circumstances get the Steel Series Apex Pro. I had two in as many weeks and had nothing but trouble with them. The software constantly crashing while making adjustments (as in after every adjustment), led's getting stuck on a static colour on certain keys and worst of all the keyboard will just randomly start spamming phantom inputs and the only way to make it stop is a full firmware rollback and update (so it's not the actual hardware). According to the countless threads on reddit those are all issues that have existed for well over a year with no fix. I sent them back, got a Wooting, opened the software to adjust it once on the day I got it and have never had to touch the software again. It works flawlessly. Only adjustment I made was keeping the Steelseries Prism caps and putting them on the Wooting as I found some of the keys sounded a little metallic (mostly the spacebar) but it still sounded great out the box.
Would love to see you do a video on the Arbiter Polar Pro boards.
I'm looking for a new he board and am definitely eyeing this up with the raw zinc case. Shame its not 75% though 😢 Awesome vid 👊
At this point, right now, with other potential options on the market, you are also buying peace of mind in Wooting's top tier 4 year warranty. This trumps every other (that I've seen) manufactuer's warranty period.
That’s nice, but you also need to take into consideration that Wooting has very poor customer service support. You will likely spend a month trying to get in touch with someone to help you take advantage of this warranty claim if you need it
@Silver_Joystix This is true only so far as the size of their support staff compliment versus the boom in customer growth is concerned. They are actively staffing up and expanding this department. Right now, you are 100% right that reply times are much longer than a customer would like. Will that remain the case in 6 months from now...I don't believe it will.
@@Silver_Joystix The support is not poor, just under staffed, there is a big difference. But yeah both are bad...
@@gucky4717 Read your comment again and ask yourself if you think you made sense.

Man you gotta review the zenblade 65 from pwnage. For a 65% keeb, it sounds amazing and looks and feels premium for 200$.

Have you tried the sticky rice switch? They’re another open magnet switch that manage to sound good despite this design choice. I’d love to hear your thoughts on them
You should try Geon RAW he switches
Love your videos, do you plan on reviewing the GMMK3?
i have to say that while i appreciate their efforts to try to get the build quality, sound, and feel to the same level that their software is at, things like including plastic clips for the construction and having the mounting points be a part of the plate foam is really disappointing because it feels very anti-modding. those clips just simply WILL break over time if you tinker enough, and being restricted to plate foam because of the mounting points being a part of it just makes me disappointed. but with all that being said, it’s obviously undeniable that wooting is still miles ahead of the competition in terms of software. and it also is very clear they’ve been listening to customer feedback, so i have hope future releases from them will only get better!
My higround based 65 (Naruto sasuke) that has a clear base and lost the RGB shine through! seen few frosted cases and might change another board to one or add another KB to the collection with one!
Love ya bad seed!
Is there any reason to consider the 80HE over the 60HE+ Module other than form factor?
Not really. Improved sound and feel but functionally they’re the same and I prefer the 60HE bc of the smaller size. If I had to use only one keyboard for gaming and productivity, I’d go 80HE
@@badseedtech makes sense, think I'll go with the 60HE if/when I do get one just for the sheer amount of aftermarket support/part compatibility. Really love the look of the Holy60 case, and I bet with some plate modding I could make it sound good too.
its a very good keyboard, i missed my dedicated F keys and arrow keys, im coming from an apex pro mini and the 80HE sounds way way way better, i havent played any games with it yet so im not sure how performance will be compared to apex pro
I'm still pretty hyped to get mine even if i need to swap the switches for something else. I have experienced zinc cases before and I will never buy one again. they have too many qc issues in the long run and i don't trust that the finish will hold up (ducky shine 7). as both of my other wootings are in alu cases its more interesting for me to experience it in the plastic case anyway
The zinc would sound way better with abs keycaps. The pbt just sound like glass especially with that spacebar.
The fact the keybaord is available to everyone and other brands have it, dont even bother to ban it.

@houssamalucad753 Ngl this is a king approach. I recommend this method to my ex since he does art professionally and uses the numpad a ton as well as the F keys and such.
Nice vid mate
I feel like compared to all the new alternatives, Wooting really is behind on the price. You can now get HE keyboards for under $100 fully built with basically the same latency. The difference though is that Wooting really does pay attention to detail and has more competent software designers.
Keep in mind I haven't bought the 80. I am thinking of buying the module when the 3rd party cases come out though
So glad the latency part was addressed. Happy to know this is just a different form factor from wooting and functional nothing much as change from the 60he.
I wonder if they will make a zinc alloy 60he case; probably not but it might be a nice option and interesting comparison to the current Alumaze.

How about a Bad Seed case collab? Or a custom case from their open source specs?
I didn't like the look of the Wooting 80 HE case, so I chose the Keychron Q1 HE. Totally worth it! It sounds, looks, and performs amazingly.

The 80HE looks promising. Still deciding if I want to drop nearly $300 on it, though. First world problems, of course. 😉

From custom keyboard Rakka to mass production ones like Made68 or Herald68(these two designed their own PCB and have their own software) with 8k or even 16k polling rates and 0.01mm acuracy. Do you want a traditional TKL so that you can easily do case swaps or something? Are you perhaps mixing up TKL with a 75% layout?

I have a logitech g915 tkl, and now I bought a razer deathstalker v2 pro, but I haven't decided if I wanna keep it or buy a wooting, the only thing that I dislike from a first glance is that it doesn't have the full 3x2 row of ins, del, home, end and pgup pgdown tho I don't really care about page up page down I guess I could remap the keyboard, another thing that I dislike is the lack of the volume wheel and media control, but I can do all that from my mouse so not a dealbreaker, hmm
Well i think they went with that layout because it is unique
60HE is the king
The web software is enough for me. Razer and Asus and Corsair have software that is ridiculously invasive.
I feel like the Q1 HE is better. It gets an aluminum case for $100 less and the software is the same thing. The design is much less "gamer killer", too.
Plus, if you want TKL instead of 70-80%, Keychron just came out with the Q3 HE, which is a full TKL.
what does it mean that its blocked in CS2? it just does not work? or can you not play with a wooting keyboard.....or do you have to turn it off before the game allows you to play?
I mean is it ok that the keyboard is jumping up and down while you press the keys? I mean, on my Wooting 60He its not like this. Im worried, that it will be unpleasant to press keystrokes while whole keyboard will jump due to force applied... it seems like this on the video
