  • Hello friends and neighbors. I hope everyone is hanging in there and staying well during this incredible time in history. I've always found music to be a great healer and a common thread among mankind. In that spirit, I decided to ask some of my favorite musicians on the planet to collaborate with me in a series of "Quarantine Duets." We may be physically separated, but thanks to technology, we can still make music together. I don't know how many episodes we'll do, but I'll keep it going as long as possible. I'd like to kick things off with my favorite Dobro player in the world, the incomparable Chas Williams (no relation to me). In addition to being an in-demand Nashville session player and road warrior, Chas is also the single most important Nashville Number System educator the world has ever known. If you're a musician and you don't know Nashville Numbers, please do yourself a favor and check out Chas' book here: nashvillenumbersystem.com. I've had the pleasure of calling Chas a friend for 20 years now, and I'm honored he decided to join me for a long distance jam session. The song we chose was Scott Boyer's "Please Be With Me" which was recorded by Scott's band Cowboy in 1971 and featured the great Duane Allman on slide guitar. Eric Clapton later recorded the song on his landmark 461 Ocean Boulevard album. Hope we do it justice. Enjoy, and be well everyone.

Scott Boyer and Duane Allman. To some, they've never heard of those names and to others, especially that of Duane, his music has been with us, if not every day, several times a day, then almost every day, since 1969.....and still going, I guess as long as we go. Ah, I'll say no more. Can't get all of that into mere human words, the feelings that Blue Sky, the Circle part of Mountain Jam, Little Martha and more brings welling up in the Spirit.

I had the honor of seeing Scott Boyer at the Iridium in NYC a few years back and saw the ABB with Duane a few times in 70-71 and I just want to say that was great guys. Looking forward to seeing Skydog band when normalcy returns. Thank you for this and for keeping this great music alive.

    Nice.
One night a few years ago I had the good fortune to attend a living-room concert by Tommy Talton at the home of an Atlanta writer. As we enjoyed the wonderful meal that had been prepared by the hostess, I sat beside Tommy and shared small talk. One thing he said that I'll never forget: "Not many people can say that Duane Allman came by to drop a solo on their new song."
    Thanks for this.

LexLuthier1 Thank you for the comment my friend. I was going to dedicate the performance to Tommy as well, but seeing as how he is still living, it just didn’t feel right. But he was certainly in my thoughts as we recorded this.

just gorgeous, guys, and righteous callout to to Scott and Duane, loved that tune from the time I heard it on the turntable back when they released it.

And here I am hearing it in 2020 after not hearing it for 20+ years. It's as if I never heard it and I absolutely love it. I was only a kid back in the 80s when the turntable was all Allman Brothers, all the time at my house. Back then, hearing my daddy tell me daily that I was named after the best guitarist to ever live, Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band didn't mean much. In fact, I hated the name Duane. Today? I couldn't be more honored and more proud to be named after Duane Allman, my favorite musician ever. ❤️ Almost 50 years after his death, he's still inspiring and motivating people to pick up a guitar and learn to play. I bought my first in January of this year because of Duane Allman. Now I own 2 and 3 amps lol.
Absolutely beautiful song. I understand why Galadrielle, Duane's daughter, named her book after it. So, so heartfelt. ❤️❤️❤️
I've been trying to get my dad to get out all his old vinyls and to buy a new turntable so we can listen to them 😁 I wanna hear Allman Brothers the right way. ON VINYL!

Great! Favorite Duane dobro song. Clapton had to replicate it. Is the dobro (either Duane's or Chas's) in a D tuning?

Hi there. Thanks for the kind words. I’m pretty sure Chas was just using the standard dobro tuning for this.

NEW SUBSCRIBER HERE. Nice vocals and playin guys! Audio quality is great (for YT). What software platform are you using? How many musicians can you link together in real time. Keep it up. It's a comfort.

Hi Mark, thanks for the nice comment and for subscribing! We are actually not playing in real time. I recored the basic track and then sent it to Chas for overdubbing. I'm using Garageband and he's using ProTools. Then I sync everything up in Final Cut. Thanks for the question! Be well out there. ~WW
