One of the last songs Duane Allman played in a Studio. The late Butch Trucks said when he listened to it, he could not stop weeping. When I listen to the original track, I can't help but tear up. Duane always will be my favorite guitar player. You guys owe it to yourself to listen to the track with Duane's playing,...it is beyond beautiful. RIP Scott and Duane...gone but never forgotten.
@@Womble1252 They say in the Anthology version, Duane had a plug of coke in his nose that made him breathe so loud the mikes picked it up. Not sure I really hear that, though.
My name is Scott Boyer - no relation. This is the first time I've heard my namesake's music. I was a music major, so I greatly appreciate this. So sorry I didn't meet him or hear him in person. RIP Scott
I saw Scott playing this Song at Schooner's in Panama City Beach, FL about 20 years ago. We all knew the words to this song and started singing it with Scott as we were coming in the Building and after the song Scott stated I knew I would see somebody I knew if I stayed here long enough. Great song!!
I did get to see Cowboy once, it must have been the winter of '70 at UF in Gainesville, Fla. I wasn't familiar with their music but the flyer said "Final Performance". I was afraid I might miss something so I went. I think tickets were two dollars. Money well spent. They were great, I'm glad there were future incarnations ahead. They made some of the best Southern Rock 'n Roll ever. We miss you, Scott.
Duane's version was the first I heard, around 1976. It became "our song" for my future wife and me. Heard Eric's version later. But finally found this and am so happy. God bless Scott's friends and family. One of the finest songs ever written. Gonna hear it one last time at my funeral.
We used to run into Scott and Tommy around Mobile back when we did sound for Wet Willie. Always friendly guys, always welcome. Hard to believe that was 40+ years ago.
Just discovered the album this track came from, "5'll Getcha 10" tonight on a whim when I felt like playing this song on Amazon Music...needless to say I haven't stopped playing the album since. ..what an absolute treasure!
Ted Garland, just ran across your post, thanks for the kind words. I thought you might like to know “5’LL Getcha Ten,” “Reach for the Sky,” and “Cowboy/ Boyer and Talton” have just become available again in the last few weeks. Check out the store on my website when you get a chance: Www.tommytaltonmusic.com And, thanks again 🌈☮️🎶🎶
Man that sucks. I got a chance to ask Tommy about what they were talking about at the beginning of this song with Duane and he actually told me 🙏 Something I won't ever forget. Rest in Peace, Tommy.
Tbh, Tommy might be the only person I've ever spoken with that actually knew Duane personally. Off the top of my head, he's the only one I can think of.
One of my all time favorite songs by one of of the all time Top Five bands ever, IMHO. Talton is a guitar master, and both Tommy and Scott are superior talents and wonderful human beings.
A friend sang this with his band at our wedding reception for our dance - He chose the song - a surprise - but it's one I have always loved. RIP Scott - you wrote a classic!!
Clapton's version was the last thing I listened to before I got married 33 years ago. I jumped in the car afterwards and Dire Straits Your Latest Trick was on the radio. Both unforgettable.
Just bumped into this - what a gem. Loved the original and this is a worthy rendition. I really appreciate Tommy playing his own solo rather than reproducing Duane's - and I'm a huge Duane fan. Thanks so much.. RIP Scott and Duane
RIP Scott Boyer .. I really like a lot of Scotts songs .. 31st of February .. Cowboy .. The Decoys .. bands I listened to a lot .. and still like hearing it again and again .. thank you Mr Boyer
I am listening to the Boyer and Talton Cowboy album on vinyl even as I type this...VERY under rated song writers and performers!!! Thanks for sharing this video!!!!!
I've always loved this song with Duane Allman, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. What a beautiful song and done so well here by these two really fine musicians.

@@tommytalton1 hey Tommy. What's the story behind the "fastball" on the original cut? Is that, something you'd share with us? Thank you for such a beautiful song. One of my favorites. That double bass is AWESOME. Nothing comes close to that sound.
@@MojoUX not sure how I missed these pictures. Thank you so much for sharing them with us. I'm not sure I'd have been able to contain myself if I were there. Edit: I just realized this was about 15 days after I buried my 2 yr old daughter and only child. Yea. I'm quite sure that I wouldn't have been able to hold it all back. Thanks again. 🙏❤️🍄🎸
Just before they start playing, the camera pans and zooms in on the great Rick Hall (RIP) sitting off to the side of the stage. I assumed that they recorded their beautiful version of Please Be With Me at his FAME studio in Muscle Shoals .... but turns out it might have been recorded at the rival Muscle Shoals Sound Studios instead back in the day. (EDIT) - I wrote that before I got to the end of the clip and I just saw where this version was shot ....
There are at least two versions of this song. The 5'll Getcha Ten version everyone knows. It is different from the version that appears on Duane Allman: Anthology. Great song.
No problem Joe. If you would like to find out the name of the bass player, Terry (don't know last name), you could get in touch with Scott Boyer lll on Facebook. facebook.com/scott.boyer.397?fref=ts he'll know.
