Loved your story... I consider myself a Geri-Goth. Teen from the 80s and was doing the all black clothes and lipstick, long trench coats, listening to Siouxie and The Cure, while completely weirding everyone out. And I am Black so that was ultra creepy for so many. I had no Goth friends (I was just the odd ball out amongst the 3 people I used to hang with) and so I was happy when the 90s came along and so many people got into it. Most of the people that I got to know that were Goth are no longer into it but it is so cool to see how many people still love this scene. You look absolutely stunning in all of your photos and it was wonderful to hear your history in the Goth world. :)
I miss the 90's. The life style wasn't anything special or great but I just simply miss it. life was just better and didn't kill my hopes and dreams yet.
My mother’s coworker/friend, Misty, took me under her wing. She noticed I had a unique taste for a 12year old. She burned me a CD of the Crüxshadows at first. I fell in love. Instantly repeated the shit out of that CD lol than she burned me more mixed cd’s over 6 years of skinny puppy, switchblade sympathy, london after midnight, RiB etc. she kept feeding my soul. I admire her💕🌹 Every time she went out with my mother, she went all gothed out. Loved her fair pale skin, midnight dark hair, and black lips smell of Misty’s cigarettes. Even when she didn’t go out, she still kept her casual goth clothes with her awesome boots and simple makeup. Always looking mysterious 🌹 She told me about the goth clubs & taught me the dances. It was a phenomenal process💕Lost touch with her when she moved to Florida. I know I’ll probably get shit for loving Crüxshadows, but it was my first introduction and brings memories when I had the time in the world to get lost in the beauty of darkness, and goth out without having any sort of responsibility getting in the way.
I'm so happy I found your channel!!! I'm turning 34 this weekend, so finding someone close to my age is a breath of fresh air. you, my dear, are lovely, cheers! 🍻
Finally seeing people my own age coming out of the woodwork in this scene. I was getting disappointed with all of the younger generation being the ones claiming the title. About damn time.
+enemy0finfants Hey-- It's always nice to see the goths of my generation! Nice to meet you :) Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm working on editing a ton of photos for my next video about Gothic fashion starting from 94' up until about mid 2000. It's shaping up to be really fun-- I've got Jeannie Nitro, Catherie Coatney, Cykxtees and a bunch of others. Damn those pics were tough to hunt out! Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement!
+Angela Benedict A pleasure to meet you. I wish I had photos but they are rare. The only thing I wished I had then was a digital camera. It was always a hit or miss with those disposable ones.
***** I agree! It would have been great to have a digital camera back then. The memories that could have been recorded! These younger gens have no idea about the struggle of relying on a disposable. When they worked it was great because the flash washed you out and made you look white as a ghost but then other times the film was sometimes overexposed or the photos messed up in some way. Hmm, there's a idea. a 'Know the Struggle' video.
Definitely do more. There are so many pictures of '80s goths online; but whenever I look up '90s Goths all I see are Nu Goth styles. Nothing wrong with Nu Goth, but its like a whole decade is disappearing.
Ahh I'm so glad I found your channel!Though I was a child in the 90s, I will never forget the first time I saw a goth. (It's a long story but I figured I'd share.) I remember going to the mall with my family once and seeing this girl walk by. She was beautiful, dressed in all black with long shiny black hair, a long black dress... I just stared at her. I thought she was so pretty and mysterious looking, I literally thought she was some sort of princess or something. lol I asked my parents who she was... (like they would know lol) and I remember my mother saying she was a devil worshipper and to stay away from people like that. I also remember my father saying, "I'd never let my kids dress like that." Though my parents aren't bad people, I don't think they really understood what a goth was and were more afraid of it than anything. I, however, became incredibly curious though. Ever since then, I've always been fascinated by goth culture. I dabbled in it when I was younger, much to my parents dismay, but after a lot of bullying and a lack of goth friends, I didn't have the courage to continue. I've still never stopped admiring it. To this day I still have an urge to dye my hair black and indulge in that childhood dream :) I know it's a random story, but seeing you immediately gave me a flashback of that day. I'm now a new sub to your channel and just wanted to thank you for bringing back that wonderful memory. :)
I also remember the first time I saw a goth. It was back in the 90's and I was a child. I stared at her and I thought "when I grow up I'll be like her".
Thank you, I'm so happy you enjoy my channel. Thank you for sharing your story. It sounds as if your parents just didn't understand the Gothic subculture. It's a common misconception. So many think it has to do with devil worship when in actuality the majority of Goth's I know are atheist or agnostic, like myself. I'm sorry you were bullied. Some people develop their sense of empathy late or sadly not at all. Fortunately now there's much more of a tolerance to extremes and Goth is no longer an extreme-- There are for worse things for society to pick on! I wish you felt more safe/secure to be yourself. It's so much better to regret something you did rather than something you didn't :/
As a kid of the 90s myself, I miss it now hardcore too...your photos are too nostalgic. Thank you for sharing! What you were wearing on the last photo was absolutely divine!
Thank you! I'm happy the fashion is making a comeback-- I'm hoping that the resurgence in fashion will open people up to curiosity about the decade and make people interested in more tangible things again like magazines, CD's, Mixtapes and even the Goth scene. :)
Elina B. .... I like how i just looked at your google+ pictures, only to get massively blamed by a cats face and a guy with a "omg" face.. Lol.. Edgy.. O_o But yeah, theres some pretty damn interresting goths out there.. Not one myself tho.. But i wouldn't mind a piece.. >_>
I love you! You are too awesome! I'm 37 and still in my goth/ morticia Addams / wear black EVERY DAY phase. I also do retro pin up girl thing w/ a dominatrix theme . I love it and I'll do it till I literally can't anymore😈 Rock on beautiful 💋💋💋
I'm so jealous that you had goth friends at school! i'm currently in 10th grade and there isn't a single goth at my school or even in my town. it's difficult for me because i'm very goth at heart and want to show it, but i will be immensely judged and ridiculed because people are so close minded here. i'm trying to get over this and i've come out of my shell so much! my friends aren't goth or visibly alternative, but they're into the same music as me and won't judge me, and with their help i'm coming out of my shell! it's just so difficult being "that goth girl" sometimes.
This video made me so nostalgic looking at your photos and I was born in 97! You and your friends looked absolutely stunning next to each other in school. I hope to have that much fun in the future with the fashion!
+Angela Benedict Nah I'm just kidding,I actually enjoyed watching your video, and you seem like a nice person in general,I hope you'll be able to see my response lol, thanks!
Goths are immortal. Here is the evidence. XD How old were you in 1993?! I mean I was 9, but you look like 13 or 14. And you look now like 23 or so?! WTF?! And I thought I look young for my age XD Btw really cool story, reminds me a bit of my own, even I started with goth in the early 2000´s.
+Stylomagic Hi, thanks for the comment! in 93' I was 13. I was born 3 months shy of the new year in 79' so I basically age with the year. 93' I was 13, 94' I was 14 kinda thing. It's from staying out of the sun for fear of looking alive lol! I covered myself in layers of sunscreen for years and years and stayed out of direct sunlight. Of course now I have a severe vitamin D deficiency so I probably should have considered that :/ I'm so glad you liked the story. I want to come back with some more stories of growing up goth. There were some truly hilarious things that went on where even now thinking back, I laugh about it.
Please do more stories, they are cool :) Ah so you did like me, but I stayed away from the sun, because I am very, very pale. So you are 36 then, wow thats amazing!
Stylomagic Staying away from the sun truly does work wonders. I'm thinking about stories I can tell. I have to weed out the ones that seem a bit long winded. 36-- yeeeeah :/
I don´t mind long stories. I don´t like the 3 minutes videos. Its like the invisible border for RUclipsrs and I think that is wrong. There are enough people outside, who like to listen to stories at least also for 30 minutes or longer. If they are exiting enough and I have no doubt yours are :)
Been watching your videos for a month or two now. Out of all the goths I've watched so far on RUclips, you've got the right approach and the best attitude toward it. I'm an older goth in my 40's and I certainly don't look like it at all, but my heart is still there. Your video about not judging a book by it's cover is spot on. Fuck looks and fashion in the end. They're only extrinsic. The hand and the heart, that's where the real action lie. Keep up the good work.
Oh, and how could I forget the INSANE reaction to Bauhaus's "Bela Lugosi's Dead". The production, sound, his voice, it blew us all away. Nothing was ever the same after that.
Yes yes yes the choker started it all for me as well lol then black lipstick then the music then the realization of i was alive when surrounded by dark everything mutual angst of all things cutesy, the backpacks decorated with white out, scaring the preps at school, constantly being asked to touch crosses by everyone (im in the bible belt), chains blacklights the MUSICCCC oh the days ooh yes manic panic hair, sneaking the black eyeliner on at school i really miss the 90s. good shit. im 32 btw so my first intro to the music was nin and marilyn manson. then it branched out from there to everything, black sabbath, judas priest, etc. the craft was a huge movie. i was and still am a devotee of all things occult. ;)
I just want to say, your stories are probably my favorite thing right now. Also, the way you speak is very pleasing to my ears.😌 Have a great night. I can't wait for your next video.🖤
You were even gorgeous then!!!! The picture at the cafeteria reminds me of my best friend Chrissy when we were in high school! Absolutely love it! Thank you for sharing!
Hahaha your story sounds so much like mine! As a teen I took goth so seriously i was also convinced I was a vampire, drank blood from a couple of friends, made a ouija board, regularly hung out in cemeteries, set things on fire, turned other kids goth and had a posse of minions following me. I got guys to crossdress and wear lipstick. Also even prior to being goth, I got suspended at elementary school for bringing a knife to school in order to participate in a witchcraft ceremony. What can I say, no regrets!
+Morgan Von Darque That's epic lol. I guess some people really are born goth! I use to love getting guys to cross dress! Nothing hotter than a guy in make-up.
I enjoyed the Industrial Goth scene. Recently I started watching It's Black Friday and love the romantic look. I never did romantic, but it looks so lovely. If my daughter decided to go goth I am afraid I would push her to the more romantic look. I did the torn fishnets and looking a bit like I stepped out of the Apocalypse, however now I love the romantic Victorian, all the black crushed velvet and gorgeous Alchemy Gothic jewelry. So lovely!
This was the most relatable video of any kind I've watched in ages! Back up the time period a decade, but all the elements and time curve are THE SAME! Love, Love, LOVE this!!
I envy you so much! I live in a pretty homogeneous small town so I'm the only one remotely goth at my school/that I've seen and while I love my friends that I have, I wish I had some goth friends that had similar interests:/
This makes me wish I had taken more photos myself during my younger years. Actually having BEEN a vampire, I'm convinced I simply didn't appear in any photos taken of me through some sort of dark curse. :P I just naturally hid from would be photographers I suppose. Smiling for pictures just didn't fit my M.O. of the day. I went from New Wave, to Metal to Goth in the span of about 4 years. By the time I hit college in 91 I was in full blown Anne Rice, Corsets, ruffled shirts and long flowing skirts, latex clothing, fishnet and bondage gear mode lol Ahhh, the good old days.
I am glad I stumbled across your page! From your photos and stories we are quite similar! I am 37! I am still goth to this day even after having 4 sons! Can't wait to see more videos! And you are a beauty!
Tiffany deLeon Even for such a small school that's awesome that you still had goths! I remember even hearing back in the day that Texas has a good goth scene.
+Angela Benedict oh yes it does! I live near a bigger city and a nightclub I went to when I was a teen is still there! Full of goths! I wanna go back there soon! U never outgrow it in my opinion! It's life..and I listened to John Koviak's music earlier and absolutely love it!!
You might not see this. But man you guys look sooooo amazing! Then and now, before and after your transition to goth you are 😍Beautiful. I wish I was born then and had been friends with you guys. You can literally never find any places or people like you. I really hope to find people like you and your mates some day! Lots of love from a beginner goth girl in NZ!
Ugh some goths seem to make the transition look so easy. Yep since my transition is slow people think i'm emo, some still ask me if i'm goth. Has this happened to anyone else.
I have to correct my sister and her friends so often because they're not familiar with Goth. They see black clothing, clunky boots and bold make-up and think 'EMO!'.
When I think emo, the first things that come to mind are combed-over and bright/ rainbow colored hair, t-shirts with crude humor or memes on them, bright colors paired with black, checker and cheetah print, skinny jeans and vans, "cutesy" beauty, Japanese-inspired looks, fast-paced high pitched and almost whining lyrics (not to mean any insult), Bring Me the Horizon, My Chemical Romance, Blood on the Dance Floor. When I think of goth I see corsets, long skirts, bats, vampiric aesthetic, dark makeup, fascinations with odd things, Peter Steele (
Angela, thank you so much indeed for posting this video ! im still going strong as a goth on the cusp of 30,my mom still sometimes will ask me why the hell im still dressing in black and listening to the music i do,i love being me. Thanks again for makeing this video Angela !
I really like your videos and I hope you continue to make them! I've always felt that goth is more of a mentality than being defined by how you dress or look. music can play a pivotal role in opening yourself up and embrace another side of life that is not considered "acceptable" by most of society. throughout my years of discovering the darker side of music that was not played on the radio for the most part, I was drawn into the beauty and appreciation of sadness, depression, or even an attunement to nature, as well as love and loss. instead of listening to the popular cock rock at the time (mid to late 80's) my mom was introducing me to bands like the cure, Depeche Mode, joy division and many others. side note: Type O Negative is my favorite band of all time and their music perfectly sums up what I'm trying to get at. Depeche Mode's "Violator" was the first album that I ever owned and I played it so much the cassette broke. eventually that led me to finding other dark electronic sounds and some metal bands, which drew me in to another aspect of goth culture which is the literature and entertainment side. books, video games, role playing games and movies helped to broaden my idea of the culture and mindset of being goth. another very key element for me is the love and inclusivity shown to me by others in the goth community. I have never felt so openly accepted before than when I stepped into the local goth night downtown for the first time, and I was wearing jeans and a pastel yellow button down shirt. we goths have been pushed aside and ignored in so many different ways and I will always be thankful to those of us who show no judgement towards anyone they meet as long as that person does not give a reason to be disliked. anyway, I know this is a long post but I just want to tell anyone who might read this that you don't have to look like a goth to be considered one. Thank you for making these videos, it is nice to see another (relatively) older generation of goth still gong strong. Embrace the darkness, but always keep love and respect at the forefront of your soul. :)
+Angela Benedict Hahaha, I love your videos and you're absolutely stunning 😊. When you mentioned NIN I freaked out bc I'm a huge fan of Trent hahaha. Anyway, thank you for responding💕
Alexandra A Oh wow, thank you so much! I'm so happy you like them! I love NIN! I use to have 'Trent is God' on my HS backback. I respond to all my comments...when I see them. Sometimes I don't get notifications and spot them weeks later :X
Alexandra A I was traumatized as a youth by this infamous video that Trent had. Supposedly it's fake but it was never meant to get out. Someone stole it and made copies. It's a snuff film. It was called 'Broken' and it was a vhs, poor quality because it was a copy of a copy and so on. It's quite graphic where a man is kidnapped and forced to watch NIN videos and is violently tortured and murdered. It's online now I believe-- Trent swore it was staged and fake but that looked far too real. I was 15 when I saw it and that had me disturbed for weeks.
Youre like, an idol to me at this point with just your style and the way you express yourself and all that shit. Ive been in the goth scene since i was literally in the womb, as my mom put that scene of music in those headphones (the ones moms usually play like mozart on while theyre pregnant to make a prodigy). But as long as ive been a goth i still have such a long way to go with experimenting w myself and stuff, as im in 8th grade (im young i know)
I have to say, youre one of the only goth channels that i can watch without feeling like I'm not "goth enough". I love your videos an wish i had found them earlier.
This was my first video of yours I watched, and I would love to see more. Despite my name I am hugely into the Gothic subculture. My journey began when I was feeling a bit out of place in the world, and I remember one of my Punk friends and how she is. I decided to ask her about it, and she sent me a link. She also, sent me a link about the Gothic Subculture. I read about punk, but it didn't tie into my feelings as well as I would have thought. The Goth link she sent spoke deeper into my soul. Thus my excellent, and a amazing journey began. I researched it more, writing names of bands and listening to them, learning about its literature, the different fashions and sub classes, etc. Then, I learned about Steampunk which also spoke to me in another way. I love the music, the literature, and the fashion, however, the more I turned away from the Gothic subculture the more I began to feel lost. I like the idea of Steampunk, but I know that I am closer to Goth. So, here I am.
Awesome video!! I'm 41 now and I had the same shit happen as you almost. I was a punk rocker in high school yet I still loved sports which back in the day didn't fit in but I still loved dark music and of course I discovered death rock, industrial, goth and have never looked back since. As a growing adult still loving sports my pals tagged me as a sporty goth since I was goth and still pushing sports and it worked for me. I even met other crazy goth and zipper heads that played golf, bowled, and played video games and loved sports etc. So yeah... I'm with ya.. : )
Hey! Another goth Italian out there! I'm so glad I found your channel. You're one of my favourite RUclipsrs now. It's also great to see someone over 20 talking about how goth used to be. Those young girls weren't even born then.
Randomly found your channel and I couldn't be happier. Apparently we're the same age so seeing your old photos is like a weird parallel mirror. Good times.
Loved your story! My dream is to create a blog/magazine that allows various people to tell their experiences within the alternative culture and this was truly inspiring.
+Bobby and Rachel Hi! Thanks so much for your comment. I'm glad you loved the video. These things are always good when you have photographic evidence of the craziness. I'm hoping to track down more so that I can tell more stories from that period. Definitely the happiest time in my life :) Thanks again!
you look fucking fabulous! Love seeing those old photos of the 90's I was born in 94 and sadly I was only a baby when all the great fashion and music was around. Minus the mum jeans of course!
+SuzieBoo54 You missed the jeans but I think they're back for their second go around! I'm glad you like the photos. I'm hoping I can drum up some more!!
I love this video and can't wait to watch more of your channel. My 90's Goth years were so crazy and fun. My "transition" was pretty quick, though I sometimes blended Goth and Grunge. It was my hair colorist who "turned" me. Yes, I tried blood too, and kind of liked it; I stuck to licking my own wounds though lol... The difference is that I'm about 10 years older. I had finished college and started my first real job, so I was corporate professional by day and Goth by night and weekend. (I looked very young for my age well into my 30's.) Lately I mix things up a bit more, but I feel like getting back to what has always felt most real to me. Thanks for the inspiration. So I'm old! It's harder to tell in Goth makeup. Is there any Goth scene in NYC these days?
Shoot me now, this video was a total embarrassment, but not about your image but on highschool and so on. I remember my story and it is exactly the same damn story.... I couldn't stop the video but i had a huge face palm on my appearance and how i wear all black in highschool, and had a band too, etc even though my circle with some people were very small but hell who isn't back then. IT ROCKED! and didn't matter what other people think. You keep on doing with what your doing, and your play list on the other video hit me on my youth. Made me feel like I was in middle school again. I laughed so hard about the bookbag with patches etc, and Shoot I had that same Manson shirt as well! LMFAO at the time how I got deep enough was listening to Christian Death, and that because Manson did a Cover of that band with "Down on the Park". Why did I cut my forearm just to write down Mofo. Oh well that left behind. I do remember how hard it was for me to wear color cloth. And when I did I felt out of place (irony with a room filled with people with different style of cloth, ikr) I miss those era. TLTR I understand. Love your Playlist though HUGE thanks.
This video is really cool! I'm in my late 20s and my partner is in his 30s, so he's more of a '90s Goth and I'm more of a '00s Goth. I'm really curious about the Goths who came before me. I started off with symphonic metal, and my partner started off with metal and industrial. The older kids at my secondary school used to decorate their bags like you did (I wasn't allowed to! And then I got sent to boarding school...) I kept wanting to write 'Evanescence' and 'Marilyn Manson' and stuff on them... You look beautiful in that senior photo! It looks so Romantic Goth, and those two props were perfect.
I'm a simple man i see Angela Benedict and i click and now i gonna watch this 10000000000 more times to properly understand the subject and appreciate the the master craftsmanship
+Steward Noack HAHA! You should make it a yearly thing. I hear LA has a killer scene. Speaking of closets, my next video is right up your alley-- 90's goth/alternative fashion. It's been taking me AGES to get all the photos together.
I am supremely jealous that you had goth friends in high school. I'm 20 and I don't even have goth friends now. In fact, coming from a small town in NC, I'm pretty much the only goth here.

The only goth youtuber I've ever seen that wasn't ridiculously self-obsessed or elitist. Finally.
+FujoshiFandubs Thank you so much! It's all about the subculture and getting it back out there. I may get a lil snarky at the elitists though so be forewarned, if I see one-- I'm not nice. I don't like those. >:|
Of Herbs and Altars is very kind too
Do you know "ligeia resurrected" she's great as well
And smart!
Have you seen any Black Friday, Of Herbs and Altars or Toxic Tears videos? They're all sweethearts! No elitism, just good vibes

Aww!!! ♥

I just found out my children like goth! I haven't worn anything goth but had a goth nickname in HS. Now we might transform together 💛
@@dandee6604 that's so cute!
you need to meet my dad!
Guys, she's fucking 36. Absolutely incredible! She looks 25!!!!
+Scarlett Rose Haha, thank you
maybe she turned into a vampire for real.
Rose I should thank Kevin! His blood worked!
Wow 36? Definitely a vampire 🖤 u look amazing
I get that same reaction. People say I look 21. Lol of course I cheat with creams and face treatments. They are all over LA. Expensive though. I had a NIN shirt too. I miss the 90s.

You look soooo much younger. I thought you were around 26. Not that 36 is "old" but you know what I mean. I was wondering how you seemed so mature.

Finally seeing people my own age coming out of the woodwork in this scene. I was getting disappointed with all of the younger generation being the ones claiming the title. About damn time.

I'll try and find as many photos as I can :)
Ahh I'm so glad I found your channel!Though I was a child in the 90s, I will never forget the first time I saw a goth. (It's a long story but I figured I'd share.)
I remember going to the mall with my family once and seeing this girl walk by. She was beautiful, dressed in all black with long shiny black hair, a long black dress... I just stared at her. I thought she was so pretty and mysterious looking, I literally thought she was some sort of princess or something. lol
I asked my parents who she was... (like they would know lol) and I remember my mother saying she was a devil worshipper and to stay away from people like that. I also remember my father saying, "I'd never let my kids dress like that."
Though my parents aren't bad people, I don't think they really understood what a goth was and were more afraid of it than anything. I, however, became incredibly curious though. Ever since then, I've always been fascinated by goth culture. I dabbled in it when I was younger, much to my parents dismay, but after a lot of bullying and a lack of goth friends, I didn't have the courage to continue. I've still never stopped admiring it. To this day I still have an urge to dye my hair black and indulge in that childhood dream :)
I know it's a random story, but seeing you immediately gave me a flashback of that day.
Did you?
Angela Benedict If it helps, you've inspired me to finally get my hair dyed black. It's a small step... but it's one step closer. ^_^
Aime Mangone and now ? It's been a year since you commented and I'd like to know if you kept going further...
If a girl is hot before she turns goth, it can only turn better... -.^
ikr 0u0
Elina B. .... I like how i just looked at your google+ pictures, only to get massively blamed by a cats face and a guy with a "omg" face.. Lol.. Edgy.. O_o
But yeah, theres some pretty damn interresting goths out there.. Not one myself tho.. But i wouldn't mind a piece.. >_>
W0ND3RB0Y1 ahahhahahah x) sorry
Elina B. Oh well.. No worries.. ;)
I love you! You are too awesome! I'm 37 and still in my goth/ morticia Addams / wear black EVERY DAY phase. I also do retro pin up girl thing w/ a dominatrix theme . I love it and I'll do it till I literally can't anymore😈 Rock on beautiful 💋💋💋
goals ♥
you look greta from your profile pic!
Tish Smith have you got IG? ❤️
Lols, one of the things I look forward to in aging is the white hair so that I don't have to bleach to get blue hair :D
You're stunning.
This video made me so nostalgic looking at your photos and I was born in 97! You and your friends looked absolutely stunning next to each other in school. I hope to have that much fun in the future with the fashion!
Angela, you are enchanting to watch and I enjoyed listening to your story. Thanks for sharing
+Tish Smith Hi Tish! I'm LOVING your hair
Omg...you're such a poser..
Jason Voorhees Are you invoking the high school goth mentality or are you actually trolling right now?
+cyber seduced
-You're disgusting.
-I'm reporting you.
-You're also blocked from my channel.
cyber seduced I haven't even blocked you yet. I'll keep an eye out for you in the sex offender registry. Go away.
Thank you- That means so much to me
Oh, and how could I forget the INSANE reaction to Bauhaus's "Bela Lugosi's Dead". The production, sound, his voice, it blew us all away. Nothing was ever the same after that.
You're so pretty, I love your look!
+Jane Mavis Oh wow, thank you so much
Yes yes yes the choker started it all for me as well lol then black lipstick then the music then the realization of i was alive when surrounded by dark everything mutual angst of all things cutesy, the backpacks decorated with white out, scaring the preps at school, constantly being asked to touch crosses by everyone (im in the bible belt), chains blacklights the MUSICCCC oh the days ooh yes manic panic hair, sneaking the black eyeliner on at school i really miss the 90s. good shit. im 32 btw so my first intro to the music was nin and marilyn manson. then it branched out from there to everything, black sabbath, judas priest, etc. the craft was a huge movie. i was and still am a devotee of all things occult. ;)
This is so inspiring! Its amazing to see veteran goths and their stories. Thank you for sharing this!
I'm so happy you like it! Thanks so much
I just want to say, your stories are probably my favorite thing right now. Also, the way you speak is very pleasing to my ears.😌
Have a great night. I can't wait for your next video.🖤
well, you definitely aged better than I did.
+gixxeronyour6 Blooooooooooooooood!
YES FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO LISTENS TO NIN!!!!!! No one in my class has no idea who they are
You were even gorgeous then!!!! The picture at the cafeteria reminds me of my best friend Chrissy when we were in high school! Absolutely love it! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much! I'm glad I was able to conjure up some happy memories
Very cool. Loved the photo history tour. I'm gonna watch a few more bids and just might subscribe! Cheers! 😏
So lovely!
I agree, it's a beautiful look
I love your nostalgia stories. It reminds me of my high school years. Lovee eeeet!!
This was the most relatable video of any kind I've watched in ages! Back up the time period a decade, but all the elements and time curve are THE SAME! Love, Love, LOVE this!!
+Willow Murdock I'm so happy you like it! I feel like all of our pasts and transitions are somehow intertwined :)
This looks like such a fun experience of self-discovery! Thanks for sharing love!
I am a 48 year goth kid as I started in the mid 80s, I enjoy your posts and find them more then amusing. Thank you so much!
"I ate blood"
*a few months later*
Doctor: you have aids.
"Fuck"
Dead Gorgon he was 14, a virgin, never touched a drug in his life or had a blood transfusion. I was fortunate 😜
I'm not goth but I think you looked hella cute now and then.
Thank you :)
I just stumbled across your videos by chance and I absolutely fucking love them. Brings back a lot of good memories for me. Keep up the good work!
Thank you
I am glad I stumbled across your page! From your photos and stories we are quite similar! I am 37! I am still goth to this day even after having 4 sons! Can't wait to see more videos! And you are a beauty!
+Tiffany deLeon I'm so glad you like it! We are very close in age. That warms my heart to hear you're still goth. Where did you grow up?
+Angela Benedict I grew up in a small town Wallis Texas and there were goths in high school but not a lot! Only 250 students total in the school!
It's life..and I listened to John Koviak's music earlier and absolutely love it!!
why was I born in 1998 sighhh
Taylor Spears same 😒
Taylor Spears mid 90s here, oh well at least we got Norma Jean
Girl I was born in 2001 okay so at least you were born in the 90s
same....😢 the scene is gone all we have is RUclips
I was born in 2006 :(
dude where have u been my whole life ughhhhhh
You might not see this. But man you guys look sooooo amazing! Then and now, before and after your transition to goth you are 😍Beautiful. I wish I was born then and had been friends with you guys. You can literally never find any places or people like you. I really hope to find people like you and your mates some day! Lots of love from a beginner goth girl in NZ!
You guys are the coolest! Your past photos look great.
Thanks!!
Wow, kudos to you for putting it online, don't think I could share mine like that without looking like a tool...I'm older than you though LOL :-P
+Emily Rachel Gilley Thanks! I'm really happy you like it :)
Yep, happy memories for me, thanks for sharing yours
Ugh some goths seem to make the transition look so easy. Yep since my transition is slow people think i'm emo, some still ask me if i'm goth. Has this happened to anyone else.
Me. Alot.
I've never been called emo. I think I'm somewhere between a goth and a metalhead but I've always been called a goth.
I had someone call me scene.
When I think of goth I see corsets, long skirts, bats, vampiric aesthetic, dark makeup, fascinations with odd things, Peter Steele (
Adorable video. Thanks for sharing your memories.
Angela, thank you so much indeed for posting this video ! im still going strong as a goth on the cusp of 30,my mom still sometimes will ask me why the hell im still dressing in black and listening to the music i do,i love being me. Thanks again for makeing this video Angela !
What's going to happen to me if I start listening to Sisters of Mercy?
Jon Young You'll be kicking yourself as to why you didn't listen to them sooner!
Life..a whole new life!👻
Wow, you have aged very gracefully
I can't believe you mentioned Utah Saints. I feel like nobody has ever heard of them. LOL That brought back memories. :) Thanks for that.
Oh the 90s how I miss you all those pictures remind me of my own transition. I love your videos!
Sounds like me n my punk transition lol.
I was Goth in the 80s and 90s. Then I just became a hippy pagan.
I really love how bob hair looks on you!!! really inspiring!!! 😍
NINE INCH NAILSSSSSSSSSSS
+Alexandra A See, it doesn't work unless you say it aggressively.
+Angela Benedict That is so me. I have pictures of Trent in my phone case and in all of my binders. nin is life tbh 🙏🏻
I was 15 when I saw it and that had me disturbed for weeks.
you are so beautiful
+Lori Elhassani Thank you
Youre like, an idol to me at this point with just your style and the way you express yourself and all that shit.
I have a theory...
Your parents moved away from Florida because they wanted to stay way from the FLORIDA MAN
I didn't know you could become goth. I thought people were born goth.
No -__-
I thought they just spawned every 6 yeara
You have to be exposed to it somewhere
Exposed to it? Is it contagious? Is it like a virus?
I was a little goth kid before even knowing it was a thing
This was so much fun. I'm going to see if I can pull out some teen photos of myself the next time I visit my mum's house. 90s for the win!
+Kelly Bear Thanks! Nice, old photos are priceless :D It's fun to watch the evolution.
Hey Angela! I love your videos so much! I also love your confidence- i would love a video on how to be more confident in myself :))
The picture with your mom is so much like my own mother and I and I liveeee Your hair has always been gorgeous 🖤
+Helleborne B Thank you! That sounds like a great idea!
Just found your channel on my recommended list! Absolutely loved the video! It was really cool being able to watch the transition :)
+Bobby and Rachel Hi! Thanks so much for your comment. I'm glad you loved the video. These things are always good when you have photographic evidence of the craziness. I'm hoping to track down more so that I can tell more stories from that period. Definitely the happiest time in my life :) Thanks again!
Excellent video, straight from the heart. Loved it!
I'm happy you enjoyed it!
You're definitely one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen. I love your style.
You're very sweet, thank you!
Thank's for the video, I grew up in the 90's myself, so it was a trip down memory lane 😆
I miss those crazy 90s.
Angela Benedict me too, am so happy I grew up in the 90's thoughI feel sooo old at times 😂😂
thank you for giving us a peak into your life
Thank you for watching
you look fucking fabulous! Love seeing those old photos of the 90's I was born in 94 and sadly I was only a baby when all the great fashion and music was around. Minus the mum jeans of course!
+SuzieBoo54 You missed the jeans but I think they're back for their second go around! I'm glad you like the photos. I'm hoping I can drum up some more!!
yea I'd love to see more photos!
your skin is amazing. staying out of the sun has done you well!
+Alice S Thank you so much
This is great!! I was a teenage 90s goth too! The struggle was real!
Love your Playlist though HUGE thanks.
been watchin yr vids lately. subscribed
It looks so Romantic Goth, and those two props were perfect.
hi! i was born in the late 90s and started my transition to goth in high school. love your channel!
I'm a simple man i see Angela Benedict
and i click and now i gonna watch this 10000000000 more times to properly understand the subject and appreciate the the master craftsmanship
I absolutely love your style!
+Lotte Devoldere Thank you!
Forlorn is such a great word. Thank you for being fabulous!
wow similar lives we have led in regards too fashion and music, except i'm 34 and your 36. i did the things you did 2 years later. love it.
Thanks so much. I feel like goths around our age have pasts that are very intertwined
haha so reminds me of myself 🤣 just that it haplened with me a few years later :) your way of telling stories is just fabulous btw 😊
It's funny how we can all live such parallel existences
LOVE THIS!!!!!!! I was and still am Closet Goth. I listen to the old bands but do not leave the house to go to clubs. LOL!!!!!
+Steward Noack HAHA! You should make it a yearly thing. I hear LA has a killer scene. Speaking of closets, my next video is right up your alley-- 90's goth/alternative fashion. It's been taking me AGES to get all the photos together.
Angela Benedict
OOOHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I sooooo want to see that video. =) That should be awesome!!!!
OOOHH I LOVE THE PHOTOS
lilachris Thank you!
Angela I have to say wow. You are very beautiful and I love how you showed your transition.
Wow..you are so incredibly gorgeous 😍 it's also a pretty cool thing to listen to these stories 🙂
Thank you so much for watching! I'm so happy you like my stories!
