That is a great picture of the bass. Well done for returning. This is a brilliant fishing channel. That beach can throw some quality fish at times. Congratulations on another excellent video. Enjoyed watching it.

Hi Ian yes plenty about in the Bristol Channel at the moment shame a couple came off but that’s life!! Glad you enjoyed the video I really appreciate your support cheers ian
Thanks for the video Ian, a very enjoyable watch with some lovely fish there. You have inspired me to get the beach rods out again, I’ve been preoccupied with lure fishing for Bass which I took up in May, had some nice fish but it’s hard work compared to bait fishing. It’s relaxing but in a different way, as it keeps my mind constantly focused, but sometimes you just want to sit on the beach, take in the surroundings, chill out and wait for the rod to go over in the rest.
Yes a can understand why you lure fish it can be very exciting when the bass are on it. Especially the surface lures!!! No chance in the Bristol Channel with the colour of the water 😂 Lure fishing a young man’s game if you ask me too much hard work! Thanks as always for watching and for taking the time to comment much appreciated cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing It can indeed, last week I had half a dozen Bass to 4Lb in half an hour despite being there for 3 hrs. I’ve only had two Bass off the surface so far, and that was at night, they seem to hit the surface lures harder than normal. Lure fishing in the Bristol Channel I’d have thought is very hard work with the chocolate milk water, Chesil on the other hand can be amazing for Bass on lures. It’s definitely a young mans game, earlier this week I had a day off and spent a day out with the lures, I’d had enough after 6 hours and felt wrecked after, 3-4 hours is max for me. With this weekends weather I’ll likely be bait fishing anyway for the foreseeable. Thank you again for the videos and the effort you put in to them, always a great watch and relaxing.
@BYF1 wow great fishing indeed well done!!! In summer I usually take a lure rod to Chesil but only have a few casts now and then . Our best session was at Abbotsbury one September morning at first light after an all-nighter when the bass were chasing sprats we had loads on a surface lure before I decided to impale my thumb with a treble beyond the Barb!!!! Had to pull it out with pliers! Tight lines! Ian

Hi Dave lovely to hear from you I’m sorry I haven’t replied earlier but your comment was held for review for some reason I’m not aware of and I’ve only just seen it! So glad your treatment is going well!!! Brean indeed a lovely place to fish but it can be a beast in the winter!!! Never fished over your way unfortunately but I hear the smoothound are about there in numbers this year…. They are great fun!!! Appreciate you taking the time to comment…. All the best ian
Hi again lovely to hear from you!!! Definitely a few bass about locally for sure just pot luck on the size!! That’s only the second hound I’ve heard of from there in all the years fishing it… interesting!!!! Appreciate your continued support!!!! Cheers ian
Thanks I enjoyed that. I've finally got out again first time this year because of a shoulder injury. Three mackerel and lost what l I'm fairly sure was a bass. And looked 5 pound ish. Great fun. 👍
Lovely to hear from you so glad you enjoyed the video I’m happy that you’re out fishing again I hate it when injuries prevent me doing what I enjoy!! Well done on the mackerel shame about the lost fish I can empathise!!!! Cheers ian

Hi Charlie yes we been fishing friends for over 40 years now and still enjoy each others company though Chris’s tales can become repetitive 😂😂😂😂 cheers for watching!!!! Ian
You are so lucky to have a venue like Brean beech on your doorstep step absolutely beautiful, no problem with bait either being able to dig your own and some great fishing. I remember the really big bass Chris caught on a previous visit, I also remember some bleeps in that video 😂😂 Thanks Ian really enjoy your channel, take care guys 👍🎣🎣
Hi Stephen unfortunately my language has deteriorated somewhat recently it must be my advancing years!😂 I’ve lived here so long now it’s easy to forget how privileged I am to live close to the sea! As I write this I can see Brean through the rain in the distance. So pleased that you continue to enjoy the videos! Cheers ian
Hello Ian & Chris 👋 Really nice to see both back out again some nice fish enjoyed watching the video buddy look forward to seeing the next one tight lines to both of you 🎣👍
Cheers Ian I got plenty of squid and mackerel and gonna dig some lug to looks half decent tides to nice early mornings and late afternoons and getting bigger as the week goes on I’m down from Sunday to Friday so hopefully I’ll get a tug from something 🤞🏻
Brilliant!!! Definitely fish lug on one rod…. Personally I would fish it exclusively but the fish baits will catch thornback and conger with an outside chance of a bass! 👍🎣
Hi Richard so am I!!!! Just got back from two weeks holiday and am finishing a week of work too!!! Definitely need a day fishing for sure!!!! Hopefully this weekend!! Cheers ian
Can’t help but love that beach on a sunset Ian! And seems to be producing good stamp of fish too at the moment. There’ll always be the one that got away and bound to be the biggest one 🤣. Appreciate both your efforts 🎣👍🏼
Yes there are some really nice bass there this year i think the one I lost close in was a bit bigger than the one I landed but I was just happy it was a lovely evening with some really good sport…. Those bass really go hard in the shallow water!! Thanks once again for watching it’s much appreciated cheers ian
Hi mate yes my reel squeaked on the last trip too but I just forgot to oil it….. so embarrassing 😂 We are both well Derek thanks for asking I hope you are too!!!! Cheers ian
language young man ,this is a family show 😂, another great vid and a lovely session with a few nice bass and nice weather ,if only it was like that every time we went fishing ,ATB les,ps and just over the 30min ,
Hi Les sorry about the F bomb most unlike me😂😂 Agree that it should be written that every session is as enjoyable as that but the fishing gods have other ideas unfortunately!! I deliberately padded the video out just for you!😉 cheers ian
Another great video both, we fished it in the boat 2 weeks ago lots of small thornbacks, around 30 couple of strap eels, and a 15lb smoothound, which we thought record bass, on retrieval 😂
Hi Keith I bet that hound gave a hell of a fight…. Unusual to get them off Brean I’ve only heard of two from the shore!! Not enough crabs for them I guess! Glad you enjoyed the video thanks again for watching cheers ian
Great session boys, always used to fish Brean and Berrow in the winter but never gave it a second thought to fish it in the summer, my mistake 😢 cheers.
Hi Nick we have been fishing there since the mid 80s and like you just fished for the winter cod initially. However we now fish all year round there plenty of bass and sole in summer!! Appreciate you taking the time to comment cheers ian
After wanting to try Brean for over a year, I am hopefully getting the opportunity on Tues following a visit to The Midlands. Noting the tide isn't the 10 - 11m you recommend, I'm hopeful it is worth the visit. Quite excited! Regards. Martyn.
Hi Martyn lovely to hear from you! It’s just over 9.5m rising with a gentle SW wind high just after 5pm so you can start just after 2pm. It’s definitely not the worst conditions definitely chances of bass and sole. I would fish size 2 hooks and fresh lug. You can walk the rods back letting out line as the tide comes in. A 3 hook flapper or pulley ideal! I wish you luck…. If the fish come in with the tide you should catch something but it’s never a given unfortunately!!! Cheers ian
Hi Ian. Thank you once again for being generous with your knowledge. If all goes well, I should be there between 1 and 2 pm and will dig some lug on the beach. A sole would be blissful!! I'd done the research on tides etc, so glad my thoughts align with yours. I think I'll follow your methods in their entirety and hope I get a fish. Need to buy some small hooks of course🙂
A couple of nice bass there, difficult to play in such shallow water. A nice place to fish on a calm evening. Do you ever fish from the down in the background.
Hi lovely to hear from you! Yes the bigger bass really go hard close in and it’s always a bit nerve jangling in the shallows as you probably guessed from my reaction 😂 but thrilling all the same!! Brean Down popular for some but the walk up and over is a killer you fish the other side (north) lots of thornback conger and occasionally bass or cod in season. Veals website gives great information on Bristol Channel marks. Thanks for watching cheers ian
Fished here 3 times every month from early 80s until 2000 never in that time did we see a Dover sole caught here... Tell me when did they start to show up there.?? Great video..
Hi Simon so glad you enjoyed the video!! Most of the last dozen or so years we have had a few sole from Brean. Like you we have fished it regularly since the mid 80s and can’t remember catching any before 2000 but we did concentrate on winters for cod mainly. Always a good chance on a spring tide in summer if it’s not too rough. Thanks again for watching cheers ian
l hope u rins it under cold water after fishing so the salt water doesn't crod ur reels Ian and spry them with 3-1spry oil work wounder Ian for ur reels..
Hi Daren yeah I’m terrible for reel maintenance as you can probably gather!! Actually the slosh30 I use is over 20 years old and fine but the mag525 is a bit more temperamental!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Thats yet again another great video.. May i ask where do you park to get on the beach.. As i can not walk far with bad back and knees. But love sea fishing.. Love your videos
Thanks for your kind words From I think 9am to 5pm ( not sure) you can drive onto beach for a fee but not on tide over 11.5m and obviously be aware of when high tide is you don’t want to be locked on the beach! I park opposite Brean village hall on the grass verge ( not behind yellow lines or you will get a ticket) there is a walkway to the right of the hall a short walk to the beach. Hope that helps cheers Ian
Hi Daniel really it’s just a bit of luck the fish move up and down the beach all tide! Go onto the beach beside Brean village hall left of the stakes on the beach. Definitely use fresh lug!!! Glad you enjoy the videos!! Thanks for watching good luck cheers ian
Hey chaps! Just stumbled across your channel and love seeing you fishing down by Brean Down! I am looking to get into fishing the Bristol channel, having lived in Burnham-on-Sea my whole life. If it was possible, I would appreciate an opportunity to either meet you, or just have a chat on the phone regarding what basic equipment I need to get started? Many thanks, Sonny
@@ianclarkfishing thank you for the response man, your videos have really inspired me, would definitely appreciate some simple direction and guidance at some point in the future. :) Have a great weekend. x
Hi Allen nice to hear from you! Yes we occasionally use whole squid there and a few winters ago caught a lot of cod on it . I’m summer it usually only catches ray and conger with the very occasional bass. As you saw we use fresh dug lug which outfishes all other baits in our opinion but rag and mackerel also worth a try if lug not an option. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Is there a reason you guys use size 4's when going after bass? It's interesting to see you play the fish quite slowly too. So many anglers jsut haul and wind.
Hi thanks for taking the time to comment…. We use size 4 hooks as there is a good chance of a sole too as well as the bass! Usually the bass are well hooked but obviously not this time 🙄 and yes we play them gently too no need to rush it!!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi lovely to hear from you! Yes for sure but lately not so many bass as we used to. Certainly on Chesil the bream and cod always come home!!! Bass and gurnard look almost too beautiful to keep!! I’m getting soft in my old age!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
The two maestro’s strike again,if I was a mind reader I’d imagine Chris thinking any bass just being a tiddler compared with the one he caught before 😂😂.Shame about the one’s that got away 🤦♂️🎣🐟
Hi Kevin yes I don’t think Chris thinks anything under 10lb is worth bothering with 😂😂 We still have hope another of similar size is out there and in fact the bass in the video were nice fish…. Another ten years and they will be worth Chris’s attention 🙄 I was surprised we lost two as they usually well hooked and we weren’t rushing them but they do pull hard especially in the shallow water close in but it’s very exciting!!! Thanks again for watching much appreciated cheers ian
Hi David lovely to hear from you! Unfortunately it’s only safe to fish from about 3 hours before high up to the top of the tide and back down for an hour or so. The sand gets very soft and dangerous if you fish before then and it goes out a long long way!!!! So a great venue for a short session and it’s very productive on its day summer and winter for cod too. Lug dug off the beach is THE bait!!! Cheers ian
Well it all looked calm and relaxing until you came out with the F word. Chris, however always has a more phlegmatic approach to life. The fish all looked stunning. Do you decide before hand whether to take any fish ?. I can’t imagine either of you returning any sizeable sole. Stay safe and tight lines Mike.
Hi mate lovely to hear from you again! Ah my language I try so much not to swear on the video…. Chris saves his choice words for car drivers!! With regards to keeping fish we definitely don’t keep as many as we used to and it’s all a bit telepathic whether we do or not…. You are correct a sole would be going home with us plus on Chesil the bream and cod are too!!! Though I love eating bass they are so nice to look at I increasingly find it hard to kill them… the same with gurnard! I’m getting soft in my old age!!! Cheers ian
Oops sorry about the F bomb I’m not usually one for swearing on my videos I save that for home life!😂😂 Such a nice sunset thought I would get it in the picture…,, not going to win any awards for that now!!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian
Hi will nice to hear from you. I usually park opposite Brean village hall on the grass verge and walk onto the beach via a footpath just to the right of it. Don’t park on the verge behind the double yellow lines or you might get a ticket but there’s usually plenty of parking. Cheers Ian
Hi Brett! Nice to hear from you. There is no need to blast it out initially as the tide flies in at pace so I usually only lob it about 50 yards as you can catch close in . Then as the tide approaches you walk back letting line out as you go. A 50 yard lob will be 200 yards out in half a hour or so . Towards high tide the pace slows so you can give it a wack as far as you can if you feel the bass are at distance. Fishing two rods helps so you always have one way out and the other a bit closer….. some days they are really close and others they can be 300 yards away!!!! Cheers Ian
@ianclarkfishing Thank you so much. I have not fished in a very long time (it's been probz 16 years or longer). I've got all our old fishing stuff out of my dad's garage as looking to get back into it. Do you have any advice on what strength line I should get for brean beach sea fishing? I am looking to buy some new line. Also, can you give me an idea of what weight weights we should be used?
@H0ruslv8 I would use 18 lb or 20lb main line there are very few snags on Brean If it’s calm a 4oz weight is fine but you will need 6oz when it’s rough weather or a big tide You need 300 yards + line on your reels to enable you to walk back with the incoming tide letting out line as you go Cheers Ian
Good point especially as we both lost decent bass in the video but they normally stay on! We’ve caught nice sole on the top hook before but maybe I will take your advice and put something slightly bigger there maybe size 1? Thanks for watching cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing I do this with lots of success on small and large fish here in Cornwall. I use a strong circle hook or semi circle at the top, dont lose very many fish at all and dont have to strike with a circle, just pull pressure into them
Hi John yeah I get that but usually there it’s not at all troublesome except in a heavy sea !😂 Didn’t expect any yesterday! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian

👏great video cheers Ian.I was there tuesday, just schoolies and chap next to us had small smoothie.,tightlines🐟🎣
Hi again lovely to hear from you!!! Definitely a few bass about locally for sure just pot luck on the size!! That’s only the second hound I’ve heard of from there in all the years fishing it… interesting!!!! Appreciate your continued support!!!! Cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing Russ at Thyers tackle had a small smoothie,Burnham sea wall end a couple of seasons back👍🦈
@devonbassangling i think he mentioned that time a while ago👍🎣
Thanks I enjoyed that. I've finally got out again first time this year because of a shoulder injury. Three mackerel and lost what l I'm fairly sure was a bass. And looked 5 pound ish. Great fun. 👍
Lovely to hear from you so glad you enjoyed the video I’m happy that you’re out fishing again I hate it when injuries prevent me doing what I enjoy!! Well done on the mackerel shame about the lost fish I can empathise!!!! Cheers ian
First time I've ever heard you swear! Great session and video as ever. I WILL get there at the right time one day!😂 Well done lads.
Hi Douglas ha ha my wife says I swear too much but I try not to on video but on this occasion it slipped out! Not sure how to edit it out or put a bleep in!!😂😂😂 so glad you enjoyed the video again your continued support is very appreciated cheers ian
great video Ian, nice to see two pals having a good session😀
Cheers ian
Hello Ian & Chris 👋
Really nice to see both back out again some nice fish enjoyed watching the video buddy look forward to seeing the next one tight lines to both of you 🎣👍
Lovely to hear from you again always appreciate your kind words!! Take care and tight lines cheers ian
Brilliant video yet again mate, I’m down next week for a weeks fishing the early morning tides. Hope I bag 1 or 2 🎣
Hi Jay so glad you enjoyed the video! It should fish well for your visit plentiful bass plus the odd sole too!! Good luck tight lines cheers ian
Hey looking forward to a new adventure soon
Hi
Enjoyable video, as usual, nice overall session, nee to buy some Penn oil or grease ! ! Ha ha
Trust you are keeping well
Go Steady
Derek
I deliberately padded the video out just for you!😉 cheers ian
cracking video lads well in
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment much appreciated cheers ian
Nice Bass :)
Hi nice to hear from you thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment it’s much appreciated cheers Ian
welcome bro @@ianclarkfishing
well done ian - brean slosher
Thanks much appreciated and thanks also for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
@user-mp3dj3fx9q if possible give yourself an hour to dig and get sorted the lug recently have been a bit small and milky
@@ianclarkfishing great advice. I would hope to be able to get there in time to get enough (whatever enough is😄).
Regards.
Martyn.
@user-mp3dj3fx9q don’t forget you are leaving a bait out for up to an hour (no crabs etc at Brean) so use about 6 worms per hook if possible
Thanks for your kind words
From I think 9am to 5pm ( not sure) you can drive onto beach for a fee but not on tide over 11.5m and obviously be aware of when high tide is you don’t want to be locked on the beach!
I park opposite Brean village hall on the grass verge ( not behind yellow lines or you will get a ticket) there is a walkway to the right of the hall a short walk to the beach.
Hope that helps cheers Ian
Staying at warren farm camp site over weekend. Any decent spots? Or just pot luck. Love ur videos lads. Tight lines 👍
Many thanks,
Sonny
No problem maté happy to help!! I’m a bit busy this weekend but I will message you next week if that’s ok? Cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing thank you for the response man, your videos have really inspired me, would definitely appreciate some simple direction and guidance at some point in the future. :) Have a great weekend. x
👍🎣
another good session what is the best rig to use Ian, have you tried whole squid bat there.
Great video don't you ever take one for the table
@@ianclarkfishing 😂😂,we all live in hope 🐟.Practice makes perfect 💪
Definitely!👍🎣
Hi Ian cracking video mate is it possible to fish flood all the way from low tide thanks.😊
Cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing cheers for info Ian very much appreciated going Monday let you know how we get on. Thanks
Evening tide Monday looks great! 🎣👍
Access beach behind Brean village hall there is a walkway just to the right of it cheers ian
Thanks mate.
Cheers ian
Brilliant vid love to hear you curse 😂 nice bass but face the sun when you get your pics ! 📸
Oops sorry about the F bomb I’m not usually one for swearing on my videos I save that for home life!😂😂 Such a nice sunset thought I would get it in the picture…,, not going to win any awards for that now!!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian
Hi Ian, is there anywhere to park other than the national trust car park at the very end?
Hi will nice to hear from you. I usually park opposite Brean village hall on the grass verge and walk onto the beach via a footpath just to the right of it. Don’t park on the verge behind the double yellow lines or you might get a ticket but there’s usually plenty of parking. Cheers Ian
@@ianclarkfishing Thanks of the info and quick response!
@@willbacon416 🎣👍
How far out are you casting
Cheers Ian
Hey guys, is a fishing licenced required to fish on brean beach?
Hi David no license required to fish in the sea mate!!
Just go out and enjoy yourself in the fresh air and hopefully catch something!!!
@H0ruslv8 I would use 18 lb or 20lb main line there are very few snags on Brean
If it’s calm a 4oz weight is fine but you will need 6oz when it’s rough weather or a big tide
You need 300 yards + line on your reels to enable you to walk back with the incoming tide letting out line as you go
Cheers Ian
Sorry to be a pain, what size hook would you use with that?
@H0ruslv8 in summer probably a size 2 as chance of a sole
In winter probably a 1o for any cod about
Why aren't you using big hook at the top small hook bottom of the bait? Surely you would lose less big fish
I use a strong circle hook or semi circle at the top, dont lose very many fish at all and dont have to strike with a circle, just pull pressure into them
@mawymark1 cheers mate!👍🎣
A clue to why the weed was in the sea is in the name, sea weed,
