Hi Paul yes we usually put the world to rights while waiting for the fish to bite!! We’ve been fishing together over 40 years now most weeks and still enjoy each other’s company!!! Thanks very much for watching cheers Ian
Great video as always Ian. Never thought i would see the day when there would be more bass caught than cod! It's sort of weird . Tight lines and cheers for now.
Hi Nick lovely to hear from you again! When we first started fishing there about 40 years ago we hardly caught any bass at all so it’s great to see them thriving!! Thanks for watching cheers Ian
Hi Tom lovely to hear from you Fresh lug definitely the best bait for the venue though in our advancing years (mid sixties now… where did that time go?) our backs don’t enjoy it too much That said it certainly adds to the satisfaction gained and sense of achievement I think! If you’re ever this way you would be very welcome to join us both as we discuss your videos frequently on the beach!! Cheers ian
That looks like a very difficult beach to fish, that requires a lot of angling skill and experience . You two deserve your rewards. Well done indeed . Tight lines guys .
Hi lovely to hear from you! Actually as long as the weather is reasonable ( not too windy) it’s quite easy but does take a bit of getting used to…. There are no snags out there you just have to be prepared to move quite frequently as the tide pushes up the beach!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers Ian
hi ian and chris , great session that nice to see the bass coming in . i nearly went to brean on friday evening . catch up with you both on a beach somewhere ian . take care mate
You are very welcome as always Glen! We always enjoy our fishing together but of course a few nice fish make it a bit more special for sure!!! Thanks very much for watching cheers Ian
Cheers Guys … your so lucky to have a beach like Brean only a short journey from home. Love my beach fishing and find digging my own lug almost as addictive as the fishing. Good to see use getting your rewards with those 3 nice Bass. Thanks Guys take care 👍🎣🎣
Hi Stephen lovely to hear from you again! I guess we both sometimes forget how lucky we are …. It’s certainly nice just being able to get there , dig, fish and be home in about 4 hours or so. Tight lines mate cheers Ian
Hi Mike lovely to hear from you again! The freshly dug lug definitely works on Brean but we are both beginning to find it hard on our backs as we get older!!😂 However it’s definitely worth the effort and is rewarding when it results in some nice fish!! Thanks as always for watching cheers Ian
Hi Mike Yes conditions were really ideal I would have been surprised if we didn’t catch something Perfect height tide and tabling waves just right for mr bass!!! Thanks as always for watching cheers Ian
Yes we always try to dig our own bait when possible though we both struggle with our backs as we enter later life unfortunately!! On the plus side there are millions of lug on that beach and it’s definitely the best bait there too!!! Thanks as always for watching much appreciated cheers Ian
@@ianclarkfishing have you tried a bait pump before? I have never tried one, bit newfangled for me , but apparently it do take the strain out of digging just I think there is a knack to it,
Yes I’ve seen someone pumping there and it seemed relatively easy but it damaged a lot of the worms he got out Definitely worth considering moving forward!!🎣👍
Hi Ian. Great to see you and Chris on the bass again. Remembering your amazing April session last year, i've planned to go there next Tues afternoon/evening on the way back from appointment in The Midlands. This has ramped up my excitement! I notice you probably leave rod bags in the car - that seems like a great plan with all the sand😅 All the best. Martyn.
Hi Martyn lovely to hear from you again! Nice tide next Tuesday there should be fish about for sure!!! Yes we make up the rods by the car and travel light as there’s plenty of moving back with the tide! Heard of a 9lb bass a few days ago so the bigger ones are about!! Cheers Ian
@ianclarkfishing thanks for the added tips! I fished it in early Nov when (as foretold) the lug were milky and skinny. Following, your video, I'm hoping that these look more suitable. Size 1s for me; size 4 is hardcore!! All the best buddy. Love your content🙂

Don’t worry Carl I have it on good authority that the bass and smoothound are heading up the east coast as we speak!!!😂 So pleased you enjoyed the video again I really appreciate your continued support!!! Cheers Ian
I managed to get to this beach last week as we were visiting friends in Frome but had our dogs rather than my rods but I’m keen to return and give it a go some time soon Loving the videos
So glad you are enjoying the videos! You must give it a try there… it’s becoming a better beach in the summer with the lack of cod in recent years….. bass sole and rays especially!! Thanks for watching cheers Ian

Fair play to you for releasing your bass, I like that although I love to take a fish home for the table myself. Bass are starting to show here on the south east coast of Ireland on lures now, hope to capitalise with the northern winds forecast this week.
Hi Keith yes we keep the odd fish…. In fact Chris took the last one home for tea. I envy you having clear water on your doorstep to enable you to lure fish…. Visibility in the Bristol Channel is about zero…. However that does mean fish feed happily in the day so it’s not all bad news!!! Take care tight lines cheers Ian

Hi guys, really enjoy watching your videos, the relaxed unhurried approach to your fishing is so calming. One question, why do you use small hooks when bass have quite large mouths. Till your next video, tight lines to you both. Arthur.
Hi Arthur nice to hear from you!! Glad you enjoy the videos I don’t think you need anything above a size one for the lug we rarely lose a fish plus there is always a good chance of a big sole or two on the smaller hooks Smaller lighter hooks also seem to produce more bites we think But it’s just personal preference really Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers Ian
Hi John so glad you enjoyed the video! We park opposite Brean village hall on the grass verge ( avoiding yellow lines traffic warden is seriously on it!) Hiya Ian I am going down to Burnham on sea on an impromptu visit for a few days and hoping to take my tackle with me for hopefully a couple of sessions in the day. I wondered if you had any advice about where to fish and alike ? Thanks in advance if you get the chance , I know you are a very busy guy and Chris too.
Hi Alan lovely to hear from you! The bass starting to show in the area…. Brean very close fishing 3 hours up to high and an hour down…. Some nice tides next week. You can also fish Burnham sea wall over high which can be productive If you go into Thyers tackle in Highbridge and speak to Russ he is always helpful too Bait wise plenty of lug on Brean and Berrow beaches plus Russ has other baits If pushed fish Brean on an evening high tide with lug for best chance Good luck cheers Ian
Hi Ian I follow you here on RUclips to gain my fishing knowledge as have learned so much from you. I would love to fish brean beach like you so I could dig some fresh bait but I’m struggling to find parking down there via google maps. I am from the midlands and don’t know that area, is there anywhere to park within reason to the beach that you can park a medium wheelbase man. Thanks in advance
Hi lovely to hear from you! Good question and it’s definitely shallow water… at bout 100 yards I guess 3 feet maybe but we’ve had bass and sole closer than that before!! It’s such a shallow incline on the beach which is why it comes in at walking pace sometimes Fish can be at any distance but if pressed I would say 200-300 yards out ideal in probably 4-5 feet of water for best chance which obviously means walking the rods back with the incoming tide Thanks for watching cheers Ian
Great vid as usual i really enjoy your vids. Me and a friend are fishing here next Sunday. Any advice on rigs/ hook size would be much appreciated. I usually just put pulleys out with big baits on rough ground. So this is a bit different for me 😅 was thinking about 3 hook clipped down rigs?
Hi Jamie lovely tide Sunday I may be there too!!! 3 hook clip down perfectly ok size 1 hooks?? Just load the bait on there!! Definitely a lug venue!!! We use pulley rigs but even simple flapper rigs will work Cheers ian
Also Ian I've heard you mention about not clipping the wires in on lead is this to stop the lead sinking and getting stuck in the sand? Or is it just a personal choice. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks Jamie
@jamiesmart9016 We never put grips in on the first cast as the very soft mud can result in getting totally stuck and you have to pull for a break Further up the beach it’s fine to do that but we generally don’t unless there’s a big wind/ lateral tide . A slightly moving lead seems to produce better bites and hook holds. Cheers Ian
