      Hi Ian , yes used to be hard work, I used to fish all over the Bristol channel mainly specimen hunting
      Used to fish a fair bit with Rod Carter and I used to live near John lintern in Axbridge.
      Moved to the Isle of Man to live 15 years ago , tope fishing is outstanding up here .
      These days I like the fact that I can walk to a good deep water rock mark for a few hours fishing.
      Good to see the channel is getting better ,miss the winter cod marks .
      Kind regards

The new Penn reels are lovely and easy to use I would suggest talking to your local tackle shop rather than buy online. I haven’t done any videos about them as my posts are less instructional and more just showing the enjoyment of a days fishing. I’m sure a look at RUclips will show plenty of videos on the topic. Cheers Ian

    Fantastic Dover Sole and very expensive fish to buy.
    Can you tell my why you both keep the rods at a low angle to the beach?
    I can see it would be good for slack line indicating but not sure for gentle Sole bites.

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  4 года назад

      I suppose mostly to stop neck ache!!😂 plus generally we are fishing fairly long range as tide comes in quickly and we letting line out....therefore small sole type bites difficult to see regardless of conditions...we are looking for slack line, a big pull down or a drift downtide to the right. On Chesil or steep beach we fish high rods to keep line out of the breaking waves but doesn’t work on brean.

      Ian Clark thanks for replying Ian ,I’ve learned lots of valuable tips watching your videos especially as lm new to beach fishing , lve bought a couple of old multipliers and lm learning to cast them (Swedish Abu Ambassador 7000’s)l see your reels don’t have line guides, should l take them off to get a better cast ?

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  4 года назад +1

      You probably saw one of the reels I use on Brean is an ABU 7000. They are useful on Brean because of large line capacity if you want to fish at long range but they can be a bit prone to overruns. I use Penn Mag 525 reels on Chesil for distance and they rarely birds nest. None have level winds as have found that if sand gets in mechanism they will jam. You just guide line back on evenly with your thumb. Cheers Ian

    hi what lb line do you lads use here

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  4 года назад +1

      Hi Helen thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I use 14lb as we casting onto sand/mud.. Chris prefers 20lb but it’s not really necessary. The lighter line means more on the reel and enables you to walk a long way back with a big bait if you want to leave it out over an hour which at certain times can be very effective. Cheers Ian

    great vid guys why do you have your rods so low your line is almost touching the sand

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment...no real advantage here having a high rod as beach so shallow. On Chesil we have rods high to keep out of waves but not possible here. We looking for slack line mainly or big pull down or drift downtide which are relatively easy to spot. Plus we don’t get neck ache!!! Cheers Ian

    Are the sole around in April? Or is there a season to get them?

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  3 года назад +1

      Hi thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! The sole are really a summer and autumn fish from June to September though the odd ones appear at other times. Use small hooks size 4 or 6 with lug or rag! Good luck if you give it a try later this year....pick a calm day! Cheers Ian

    Lovely session, well done. Strange that you caught all the bass and Chris all the sole. I assume you used the same bait and setup?
    Tight lines

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  4 года назад +1

      Wasn’t that strange? Same bait same size 4 hook Chris uses shorter snoods by about 6 inches and that’s all the difference. One of the weird things we will never know the answer to I guess! Cheers Ian

      Hi Graham thanks for watching! You can dig all along Brean Beach for lug they are very plentiful! Obviously the lug beds are covered at high tide but we dig for an hour before fishing ie. 4 hours before high tide. Cheers Ian

      Thanks where’s the best place to park to get to the venue you was fishing

    • @ianclarkfishing
      @ianclarkfishing  4 года назад +1

      You can park on beach but you have to pay and it closes at 6 pm. We park opposite Brean Village Hall on the grass verge and walk onto beach via cut through right of the hall....it’s a two minute walk!

      Hi thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! We just used a standard pulley rig with size 4 or 6 hooks I think with blow lug dug from beach before we fished! Let’s hope we get weather like that again soon!!! Cheers Ian

      Hi Will thornback usually absent in summer but from september to March there are lots....we don't target them but they still take our lug baits...cheers Ian

      Hi thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! With regards a fishing RUclips channel I think it’s important to be yourself and get a balance between talking and action. You need to decide if you are going to use a GoPro or something different. If you can get a USP that would be great! Be prepared for it to take a while to get a following.....do it for fun and not for financial gain and you will be fine!!!! Cheers Ian

      I know it looks shallow and devoid of fish but it’s very productive on its day....The suspended sediment gives the sea colour all year round and therefore fish come close to shore even in daylight!! Lots of shrimp in the sand...,. Cheers Ian
