Over the entire Story Zanac felt like the bad guy. But he was never bad, egoistic or greedy. It just felt like this, because we only saw him in the presence of his family and faced with a crisis. We only saw his actions, but never his thoughts. The fact that his appearance and behavior (atleast in the presence of his sister, which he nearly always was) was also rather negative, amplified this even more. But given that his brother was a complete idiot and his sister... well you know. It actually made sense that he despised them and tried everything to get rid of them. He literally just tried to save the kingdom and its people by locking away a evil threat. He was a hero from the beginning, the author just intentionally hid it by presenting him in the worst situations.
I think that this far zanac is best character or at least one of best characters. His dreams are simple but his actions as the prince are just like they should be, he have self respect and glory, he have a good brain and ready to sacrifice himself. He love his family and he is care about his people. I respect him for that. The only bad thing he did is that he tried to weaken reputation of his brother, that his brother really needed, because if he would leave things how they are, he will be just a puppet in hands of aristocrats and will never have a lesson that could help him to become better prince and better person. And I can't really blame zanac for that.
He went from "fuck that guy in particular" to " may he rest as a chad next to Gazef, who had the balls to challenge Ainz knowing he will die and not wanting to be resurrected
His interaction with Bone Yaddy was honestly so interesting. Kinda disliked him at the start but this show really has a great way of world building and character development. So much respect for him. Can’t wait to watch your video tomorrow!! 😀
Zanac and ainz meeting was better in the LV but everything's always better in the book. That said think most of us agree initially I disliked Zanac but as time went on especially prior to and during the invasion arc I felt bad and gained some respect for him especially in the end.
At first I thought he was gonna be the typical stuck up Prince that didn't care about his subjects, just wanted the power and would sacrifice his own people to save himself. Boy was I and am I glad I was wrong. He turned out to be an interesting character that not only cared about his family and people but gave his life for them. I mean come on, he even went to talk to Ainz, all on his own, 100% expecting to to die right there but still went anyway to ask him why. Then when he found out, he not only understood why but gained the respect of Ainz. That's is pure goated energy. I'm REALLY hoping in the next season (I'm anime only so don't know what's coming) he's brought up some more and there's more about why Ainz took such a liking to the Prince and whether or not the guardians realise Ainz acted on emotion and impulse for a human he respected. Was interesting that the Prince brought that side out of him.
Another detail about Ramposa is the anime fails to emphasize just how much of a pillar Gazef was to the old king. That king had literally no one on his side. Since, well, he was old and at death's door, licking his boots was meaningless. Instead everyone was preoccupied with the succession struggle. During this time, Gazef was his only friend and his closest compadre and aide. When Gazef's corpse was brought back, despite all that Brain and Climb said, he summoned Lakyus from Blue Roses, the only person who could perform resurrections in the Kingdom. He offered her anything to bring him back, but when she tried and failed and said she couldn't do it, he slapped her out of rage. It's an unthinkable act for the king of a nation to that to arguably one of his most loyal subjects, yet that is how much Gazef meant to him. He lost the only thread connecting him to this world and hence the value of his life plummeted in his own eyes. It's why Albedo was slightly taken aback by him offering his own head, as if Gazef was around, that option would never had been on the table at all
@@nickchappa1827 It's because it's not a direct scene, it's one of those that you learn from a later conversation that references it, between Renner and Evileye if I remember correctly.

seriously you really not trying to contemplate why they did it really? they were doomed either way people do not think rational when that happens ainz was at fault here this is just a fact.
@@vincenthammons6705 That is the thing. Ainz had no idea they would do that. He is your average salary man. I understand why the nobles did what they did, searching for any way to save themselves. However, confronted with men like Gazeff and later on this king himself. He expected better from this kingdom. Brain died protecting one single street. Ainz agreed to delay a bit his attacks so that some people could escape. The nobles had every opportunity to run away and live their lives like common folk. Yet they remained, hoping to keep the power they had. There are several people that had they been loyal to the prince, they would have understood and just taken their chances for a final battle. In fact, the prince himself had one such person with him. Who died fighting with him, or did you just forgot about the nameless officer in the tent?
I loved Zanec's arc so much. He came knew everything, and knew that was on the better side of it so he didn't really greed for anything more. He just tried to uphold the status quo and maybe add some improvements he genuinely believed would payout for as many people as possible in the long run. I remember some of the earlier scenes where he said he doesn't fight and he knows he is just putting up an image of a knigtly prince on his horse, and didn't care much for it. But when push came to shove he strapped himself in and went full out with his entire deck. And he handled himself very well even at the end.
oh, one thing also remember the 3 elven slaves that went into Nazzrek well, they were the only ones spared, and they even joined Nazzrek and now serve under the twins' Aura and Maury
Zanac is one of the best characters in the show, when he first appeared I thought he was going to be a lazy hentai mc type of character, but oh boy did he prove me wrong.
I love when stories pull shit like that. I LOVE to be wrong in these cases! Too bad I got spoiled for his death, as literally the day the episode came out, people on RUclips posted very indiscreet thumbnails... It didn't take much from the experience though
One of my favourite moments in the anime was when Ainz uttered out 10k while speaking with demiurge about future plans for the sorcerer kingdom X'D. I sensed a collection of bones entombed on a golden throne while near death shuddered, hearing those words.
Im happy you brought up the prince and how angry the bone daddy was. I, too, felt sick, but also ashamed to think this is something humanity is capable of
Honestly, it's a perfectly logical conclusion. The only proper ruler in this corrupt country, killed by this own men for literally nothing... worth than nothing really

Yeah Mare did something similar before. We still don't know how many people where buried alive that day. The value of things according to Nazarick and Mare by extension: 1) Ainz 2) the dirt Ainz is standing on 3) the worms in the dirt Ainz is standing on 4) the shit of the worms in the dirt Ainz is standing on 5) humans in general Cleaning up a city in the way of Ainz really isn't a complicated decision morals wise. In the novell again it was more clear that this was just cleaning duty. Mare was more concerned about leaving something that would upset Ainz. There are only a few NPCs who would even suggest minimizing casualties and they would be walking a thin line not to be seen as traitors. Sebas for example. Demiurge and Albedo being the most critical to that type of behavior. Lupusregina only defended the village hesitantly because it was the property of Ainz. I don't know if the scolding for negligent behavior was in the anime.
Hmm I agree with most of that except the sebas part while he is a good person at the same time he wouldn't hesitate there are 2 others the head maid who doesn't like the massacre and albedos sister who likes kids I believe 2 and under after the age of 2 they lose any love from her though sebas will hesitate to commit slaughter for no reason but criminals he will kill no problem and he puts his orders above all he wouldn't hesitate to mascre a city on ainzs order he even tried to kill someone he saved on his order was stopped and granted the permission to keep her
@@hibye-die Might not have been in the anime: But Sebas came under suspicion for taking in that girl. (Who still works as a maid at the place Sebas stays as cover. Most Nazarick NPCs see humans as Vermin unworthy of soiling the property of Ainz.) For reference, Demiurge typically takes everyone. He is not ordered to dispose of immediately to the happy farm. That's the contrast that raised the suspicion. Sebas had to came up with a reason his actions benefit Nazarick. The happy farm provides materials. Which they have unlimited use for. As the Nazarick internal Game Systems still work including vendoring items for game currency! Which might not be accepted in the world. But still works for the systems in Nazarick. NPC revival and floor upkeep for example. Many details anime only viewers might not be aware of. Even Demiurge is more morally complex then cartoon-evil. But he is very strict about that. So even keeping "pets" like this is technically stealing from Nazarick in his view. I was not questioning Sebas loyalty, he would never go against a direct order. But he is the only guardian who defended humans he was not directly ordered to even help. Lupusregina would have just watched the slaughter and that's canon. Remember the scolding she got for intervening to late in defense of the village. Mare would have just make sure they are not on the protected list before ignoring the incident.

Lupusregina because she is waifu! But seriously, it should have been Jircniv. His descend into madness would have made the show better, and his interactions with Ainz-sama even more impactful
yeah the scenes with the prince really did get to me, i didnt like him at the start of the show but he slowly grew on me, he tried to do his best knowing that a war would totaly end with death to most of his kingdom, i really think he should have been given new life and used as a tool in some way or an other, there was a great king in the making there, one should be used to mantian control in some way or an other over the peices that would be left of the kingdom and to start to rebuilding of it. PS. sorry for my bad english :p
Dude, I'm conflicted. On one hand yes, reviving him makes sense, but it will also diminish his story a bit. He has marquise Raven to rule, so Zanac isn't necessary.
at first i didnt think much of zanak but then he went on his own to face death himself and ask him why he his doing that, such an act of courage deserve respect, and after that when the traitor went to attack him, even know he wasnt ths warrior type guy he face them like a fucking boss, i have so much respect for that caracter
i nearly lost my shit, when these... 'nobles', killed the Prince. I was 'lucky' that my monitor was so expensive and pretty new. If not, i would have destroyed it.
One thing I don't *quite* get was him genociding the kingdom (for those unaware, the population went from like 9 million to 1 million). He could've gone for "we're seizing a Southern chunk of your country so our food caravans can go through safely. If you try to stop us we annex your whole country" and done basic conquest logic instead of "kill everything" logic that results in fewer people under Nazarick's rule to provide it with resources (since he wants to avoid reliance on Nazarick's resources to avoid using them up). If the South is given up without a fight the nobles lose their minds ("can't submit to Ainz or nobles rebel" - the prince) and rebel against the king, which creates the perfect situation for Renner to get installed as a puppet. Use the war to make everyone but Renner look stupid, create a pretense for Renner to be installed on the throne (such as losing because nobody will follow a woman, creating a justification for her to seek Ainz's power to retake her country). He gets the kingdom. He gets Renner. Renner has more humans working under her to provide more resources to Nazarick. As far as I can tell the only reason he let his underlings go genocide mode was just to let them have their fun and continue having their respect.
I see your point and normally that is something to consider... but in this case, he needed to make a statement to the rest of the world and this was 100% way to do that. Leaving nobles, other people and such alive will leave too many loose ends. Ainz-sama is no longer morally bound, so go for the most effective and efficient solution
Still I happy for season 4 but you can definitely see it had a hard production time Like a few voice actors died and some episodes were just filler So they probably just had their work cut out for them
That baby goats massacre makes me wonder how the anime would've turned out if the anime didn't implement 3d animation, or if it had at least been better.
Honestly, I really came to like Zanac. The fact he dies, and dies because the nobles betrayed him, makes me really sad. Of all the royalty in that Kingdom he genuinely felt the only one that could have lead that kingdom into a bright future. It's a shame that he doesn't get the chance to anymore.
Yo mahis i have an anime suggestion. Please watch Inazuma Eleven. This anime carried my childhood, inspired my passion for soccer, and the sound track is fire. It's like the older blue lock.

The worst part about Zanac's death: he had actually succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. After taking a few more minutes to think it over, Ainz was about to order Albedo to prepare the troops for a withdrawal when the traitor nobles arrived with the bloody bag. Zanac had succeeded at saving his kingdom's people from the invading undead army by being a graceful diplomat and a worthy king, only for his treacherous underlings to kill him in a delusional effort to save their own skins. THAT was the moment that Re-Estize earned its annihilation, NOT when Philip pulled off a robbery so retreaded that no one could even predict it.
Honestly, side characters in this anime are more interesting than the main characters It's more interesting to watch at the growth of usual people than to watch overpowered skeleton and his guardians who just despise everything that doesn't belong to Nazarick (Sebas and Cocytus are exceptions)
Zanek really did his best to get the best outcome of literally thee biggest losing hand anyone can be given, and what did he get for that? The dictionary defines "hero" as a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his or her brave deeds and noble qualities. He was noble through and through. He fought for what was right. He fought until the bitter end. He earned the respect of everyone. Sounds legit

idk if this is gona be way too big of a comment and forgive any grammar mistakes as english isnt my first language but...here it GOES: Prince Zanac had it rough from the start: he wasnt the first heir to the throne since his dumbass brother got that treatment, he also didnt seemed to be gifted as a fighter but i believe that it wasnt due to not trying...maybe he just wasnt awarded the type of combat training his brother was as hed always be sidelined...the Re-estize kingdom isnt that stable of a place either as it seems that the aristocrats are involved in endless squables, the Royalists are rather weak, they lack a standing professional army and unlike the empire they have almost no social mobility whatsoever, Prince Zanac knew this and he strikes me as someone who initially planned to pass all sorts of reforms towards centralization and economic reestructuring...but over time he managed to use the only weapon he had which was his intelect and he was slowly turning the kingdom into a respectable state, until off course he was placed in a harsh position by circunstances outside his controll...and in the face of endless power and terror which is something he knew he couldnt face he stoically remained firm in his determination to save as many of his subjects as he could try to save, in the end nobody believed in Zanacs potential and Zanac didnt believed in himself either..which is a shame because Ainz saw the potential within him and the kindness of his good character even going as far as to say he was ¨what royalty should be like¨ but Zanac didnt got to hear that, he felt in his ride back to the camp that he was in fact a failure and maybe never meant for being king and at the end when his subjects came to demand his head the pride in his royal house made him grip his sword and get ready to die fighting as a king should, if the prince had been born as the first heir to the throne or in any other age of that world things would have likely went differently and in the end it was him one of the individuals who vindicated the character of humanity to Ainz, Gazef was another person who did that and id like to take a moment to talk about Brain´s character development...he started as a coward and then he became a drunkard...but eventually he did over the seasons matured into a warrior worthy of being a hero, over time he managed to overcome his fears and find his courage by letting go of his attachment to life he evolved into the man who was probably one of the stronger if not the strongest human in that continent at that point even if for just a second, as he threw away his ego and his pride and his fear for a split second he became more powerful then Gazef and managed to win the respect of Cocyutus who managed to see Brains effort and skill as well as respect the way that man choose to die, in the end Brain died smiling knowing his road as a warrior had a worthy end, he didnt WANTED to die...but if he died he wished for it to be honorably and giving his best...which is something i can actually relate to in a personal level as ive had a very rough childhood and teenage years and i myself have swore to never be a coward again, now dont get me wrong i know this is a work of fiction but this just goes to show how much a character in a work of fiction and their struggles relate to you and speak to ones very spirit...good seasson.
I think Mare will betray Ainz in the future, if we look closely 1:51 we can see that his race is in fact human - he is fake dark elf double agent in nazarick (where no humans are allowed amongst players and npc's )
my little theory about the story is that ainz will slowly loose his memory of being once human and some way along the story he would just stop being human and going full overlord
What sad about him is that he never wanted any of this, but be forced because his family basically a f up, he know his sister upbringing and his brother incompetence, the only capable one the lead the kingdoms is his father, but his father already a old man and broke, truly a sad characters
Zanic was done so dirty by those nobles. He was trying everything he could to not let his people die in vain, even if it meant he'd have to go down in battle, but then these idiots decided they'd try to have self preservation and kill him after he told them the hard truth that they were really better off just dying now on the battlefield than dragging things out by trying to play politics. Ainz being pissed was understandable and honestly I don't blame him for making sure those nobles got what they deserved. Climb though, I think was done dirtiest. The poor dude really was better off dying at the hands of Ainz but then he wakes up and the Disney Devil Princess is just smiling at him and he's slowly realizing that he's fucked but doesn't know how badly.

His interaction with Bone Yaddy was honestly so interesting. Kinda disliked him at the start but this show really has a great way of world building and character development. So much respect for him. Can’t wait to watch your video tomorrow!! 😀
I was excited to see how he would react to the slaughter, just for him to get killed.
I agree, he started as a "meh" character to say the least) But what a way to go out...
@@mahistv Ah yes Bone Yaddy my favourite caracter
It's why Albedo was slightly taken aback by him offering his own head, as if Gazef was around, that option would never had been on the table at all
I agree, that would have been such a powerful scene. That's why we need 25 episodes
Was that in the LN? Because i dont remember it being in there
@@nickchappa1827 Volume 10
@@nickchappa1827
Yup LN scene. I think Gazeff would have refused the resurrection anyway, but Ainz made 100% sure it was impossible.
@@nickchappa1827 It's because it's not a direct scene, it's one of those that you learn from a later conversation that references it, between Renner and Evileye if I remember correctly.

I'm glad I've met some of your expectations)
I'm glad you discussed the part with the youngest prince. I was so pissed at the nobles.
He was the highlight of the season for me
you should be pissed at ainze he set this up knowing full well what was going to happen then fakes being mad about it when it does, the nobles had no choice it was either the prince or attacking ainz and they knew full well how futile that was can you really blame them.
@@vincenthammons6705 you try to sympathize with traitors? are you well in your head?
seriously you really not trying to contemplate why they did it really? they were doomed either way people do not think rational when that happens ainz was at fault here this is just a fact.
@@vincenthammons6705
That is the thing.
The thing is, he was always like that, we just didn't get to see it
I didn't liked Prince Zanac at first time, but when he acted as a "hero" i really liked that, and it was shame that he died
I'm sure the author was going for that exact route!
oh, one thing also remember the 3 elven slaves that went into Nazzrek well, they were the only ones spared, and they even joined Nazzrek and now serve under the twins' Aura and Maury
Indeed, because unlike others, they were forced!
If there's one lesson Overlord has taught us it's don't judge a book by its cover.
When they presented the guy's head to Ainz I screamed and damn near tore my monitor apart.
That was a very rage inducing moment) I knew it was coming, but still
One of my favourite moments in the anime was when Ainz uttered out 10k while speaking with demiurge about future plans for the sorcerer kingdom X'D. I sensed a collection of bones entombed on a golden throne while near death shuddered, hearing those words.
That was a very funny scene) I good a good laugh out of it

Pretty good indeed
I felt that Ainz-sama did the right thing in punishing those disrespectful nobles. And the Re-Estize kingdom was corrupted to the core that it would be destroyed sooner or later anyway, so Ainz destroying it did was in someway justified.
I agree, sometimes you can't fix it, so you start all over again. Those nobles were useless, their loyalty meant nothing, the most they could accomplish is entertain some tentacle chick for a bit.

@@mahistv I know that you will figure it out🔥 Mahis never disappoints
Yeah Mare did something similar before. We still don't know how many people where buried alive that day.
The value of things according to Nazarick and Mare by extension:
1) Ainz
2) the dirt Ainz is standing on
3) the worms in the dirt Ainz is standing on
4) the shit of the worms in the dirt Ainz is standing on
5) humans in general
Cleaning up a city in the way of Ainz really isn't a complicated decision morals wise.
She was kinda scolded by Ainz-sama and later we hear Yuri hit her as a disciplinary measure. But I agree totally!
After reading this comment, my first thought was “Pecking order!”
Hmm I agree with most of that except the sebas part while he is a good person at the same time he wouldn't hesitate there are 2 others the head maid who doesn't like the massacre and albedos sister who likes kids I believe 2 and under after the age of 2 they lose any love from her though sebas will hesitate to commit slaughter for no reason but criminals he will kill no problem and he puts his orders above all he wouldn't hesitate to mascre a city on ainzs order he even tried to kill someone he saved on his order was stopped and granted the permission to keep her
The 2 were actually the reason even 1 town escaped his wrath sebas while there was only there as a mediator
@@hibye-die Might not have been in the anime:
But Sebas came under suspicion for taking in that girl.
I agree about prince Zanac. He the best king the kingdom needed but his nobles betrayed him.
I believe he could have done a much better job that Ramposa... Reap in Pepperonis

@@mahistv and they still say that anime is only for kids XD

Honestly, side characters in this anime are more interesting than the main characters
It's more interesting to watch at the growth of usual people than to watch overpowered skeleton and his guardians who just despise everything that doesn't belong to Nazarick (Sebas and Cocytus are exceptions)
That's precisely the point! I love this aspect of the show
Zanek really did his best to get the best outcome of literally thee biggest losing hand anyone can be given, and what did he get for that? idk if this is gona be way too big of a comment and forgive any grammar mistakes as english isnt my first language but...here it GOES: Prince Zanac had it rough from the start: he wasnt the first heir to the throne since his dumbass brother got that treatment, he also didnt seemed to be gifted as a fighter but i believe that it wasnt due to not trying...maybe he just wasnt awarded the type of combat training his brother was as hed always be sidelined...the Re-estize kingdom isnt that stable of a place either as it seems that the aristocrats are involved in endless squables, the Royalists are rather weak, they lack a standing professional army and unlike the empire they have almost no social mobility whatsoever, Prince Zanac knew this and he strikes me as someone who initially planned to pass all sorts of reforms towards centralization and economic reestructuring...but over time he managed to use the only weapon he had which was his intelect and he was slowly turning the kingdom into a respectable state, until off course he was placed in a harsh position by circunstances outside his controll...and in the face of endless power and terror which is something he knew he couldnt face he stoically remained firm in his determination to save as many of his subjects as he could try to save, in the end nobody believed in Zanacs potential and Zanac didnt believed in himself either..which is a shame because Ainz saw the potential within him and the kindness of his good character even going as far as to say he was ¨what royalty should be like¨ but Zanac didnt got to hear that, he felt in his ride back to the camp that he was in fact a failure and maybe never meant for being king and at the end when his subjects came to demand his head the pride in his royal house made him grip his sword and get ready to die fighting as a king should, if the prince had been born as the first heir to the throne or in any other age of that world things would have likely went differently and in the end it was him one of the individuals who vindicated the character of humanity to Ainz, Gazef was another person who did that and id like to take a moment to talk about Brain´s character development...he started as a coward and then he became a drunkard...but eventually he did over the seasons matured into a warrior worthy of being a hero, over time he managed to overcome his fears and find his courage by letting go of his attachment to life he evolved into the man who was probably one of the stronger if not the strongest human in that continent at that point even if for just a second, as he threw away his ego and his pride and his fear for a split second he became more powerful then Gazef and managed to win the respect of Cocyutus who managed to see Brains effort and skill as well as respect the way that man choose to die, in the end Brain died smiling knowing his road as a warrior had a worthy end, he didnt WANTED to die...but if he died he wished for it to be honorably and giving his best...which is something i can actually relate to in a personal level as ive had a very rough childhood and teenage years and i myself have swore to never be a coward again, now dont get me wrong i know this is a work of fiction but this just goes to show how much a character in a work of fiction and their struggles relate to you and speak to ones very spirit...good seasson.
It doesn't matter if it's fiction or not. These feelings and struggles are pretty real, the emotions the cause too. The author is indeed a genius.
I think Mare will betray Ainz in the future, if we look closely 1:51 we can see that his race is in fact human - he is fake dark elf double agent in nazarick (where no humans are allowed amongst players and npc's )
No way. First, Mare is a good boy loved Ainz-sama. Second, Tsuare is working in Nazarick while being a human.
ahh, you made my day , big ty.
Glad to hear that!
Disney princess made me laugh
Hehe) I have to say I've read that somewhere, so I can't take credit for originality here
my little theory about the story is that ainz will slowly loose his memory of being once human and some way along the story he would just stop being human and going full overlord
I think he will just stop thinking as a human, well, he already acts like Overlord, it's just a matter of time
The last part was satisfying
What sad about him is that he never wanted any of this, but be forced because his family basically a f up, he know his sister upbringing and his brother incompetence, the only capable one the lead the kingdoms is his father, but his father already a old man and broke, truly a sad characters
Tragic, not just sad
Thanks for explaining something’s for me
Thank YOU for watching!
Dude, Climb got an absolute unit of a girlfriend for eternity, as well as luxurious life in Nazarick (in comparison to his previous place)... arguably one of the best possible ending for a human who was against Ainz-sama!
Imagine the interaction between Zanac and Renner if he survived
There was a part of me that really wanted Ainz-sama to resurrect him, since they seem to get along well. But his LVL is too low for that.
Zanac was a true king for Ainz.
You know, I wouldn't even be mad if he resurrected him, but I understand why they didn't!
@@mahistv well even though ainz wants zannac to be resurrected he can't cause zannack lacks level requirements for resurrection spells.
You just got a new subscriber
Glad to have you here dude!
This is such a chaotic and weirdly written script
You just summed up my thought processes in 2 words, thank you very much)
