Thanks for the thorough video! I came across it after I bought one of your stencils. The stencil I bought was intricate and very well made. I ended up buying two extra as I was doing a very large outdoor space and it made it easier to move between sections as I started at the center (luckily my space was a square). It came out fantastic! Hi. We have purchased our water based base coat and stencil coat and getting ready to start. Our only remaining problem is finding a sealer once completed. We are unable to purchase the one you have used in Australia and none of the companies here make water based sealers to go over the paint on the concrete. In researching what you have used it appears to be a water based external timber sealant. Is that correct? Given we have about 120sq meters we don’t want to buy the wrong thing cost it is going to be very expensive. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sandra

    • @CuttingEdgeStencils
      @CuttingEdgeStencils  2 года назад +3

      Hi Sandra,
The idea of using a water based sealer is to minimize the yellowing that occurs with with traditional oil based sealers. What you are looking for is a
water based spar varnish. Just any water based exterior clear coat that has UV protection should work. It doesn't necessarily need to be for concrete.
      I hope this helps!

  • @bridgetbean79

      Hi,
You add spray adhesive when you need it. It depends on how much you use and the surface you're stenciling on. You should get at least 4 or 5 prints if not more! Could be 10. But when you notice that it's lost its tack, mist another coat on. That's a big space. I'd get 2 or 3. It will just make the project go faster. I'm sure we ship to Australia! I used the Varathane Spar Urethane water based and it DID NOT seal my finished stenciled front porch (which took me 10 hours to complete). The finish paint is coming off simply by using my fingernail. I would not recommend the Varathane. I called Rust Oleum and they told me I could remove it using a wood finish remover but it would damage my paint job. All I can say is UGHHHHH!!! I have a plaque in my office that says, "Life is all about Plan B." So what I plan on doing is hopefully talk to someone who knows they're stuff at Sherwin Williams and get another opinion. After that, I plan to buy furniture pads for furniture I plan to put on the front porch. I already ordered a large area rug to place on the high traffic area. And then I plan to ENJOY it regardless.

Hi, That's strange. Concrete is usually very porous and the paint sticks great. Perhaps using an adhesive primer like STIX would help. Always make sure the surface is clean and dry before painting. Sometimes you can slightly dilute the paint so it seeps into the concrete as well.

      Hi,
Sorry to hear that you struggled. It really comes down to a few tips and tricks. I recommend a flat sheen base coat, maybe some spay adhesive and most importantly, do not have too much paint on your brush or roller. Too much paint will always result in unwanted bleed. After you load your roller, off load some of the paint on a paper towel and then build up your paint coverage slowly. We have many other videos that outline these steps. Maybe try again?

I just saw your unanswered question. Sorry about that. You could find some clear sand or aggregate and mix it in a coat of clear.
Glass beads and synthetic aggregates are the least invasive types of aggregate that still produce some level of skid resistance. Glass beads, in particular, are practically invisible.
      Hope this helps!

Boy, I don't think I would use paint on my concrete patio. Paint doesn't wear very well so I think I will opt for a stain.

Paint outdoors on cement ends up being a chipping mess after awhile. Not so attractive. I think you would be better off with a cememt stain.

You completely lost me with the corner measuring. Why not just start in the corner? I am dyslexic if there are numbers involved count me out. This seems overly complicated for something that should be fun. After buying all these brushes and paints / stencils and what not I could have probably just bought the dang tile. No way am I able to squat all day like that.

Hi A J! We understand this large scale DIY stenciling project may not be for everyone. We like to compare the price of tile stencils, brushes, paint etc. as being a lot more cost effective/time effective than dealing with a construction team to remove and replace concrete/outdoor tiles. At the end the satisfaction of completing a project like this feels great! As for the corner measuring you are referring to, this example if for the people that would like the whole tile stencil pattern to fit in each corner. When it comes to concrete patios, you can start wherever you want! Over the summer hundreds of motivated people stenciled their patios and absolutely love the results! :)

Easier to buy stencil that comes with different other smaller sizes for corners. If you get the one with multiple stencil then easier to start in the middle work your way out.
