T-Shirt Printing Made Easy!

- Allow me take you through the process of designing and printing your very own shirts! I've been doing this for quite a while now, and this method has served me well for those designs that aren't super detailed or technical (using halftones or thin lines).
Supplies:
-T-Shirt (or other cotton garment)
-Embroidery hoop of desired size
-Matte finish Mod Podge
-Painter's tape
-Paintbrushes (large, medium, and small for more detailed work)
-Organza (found at most fabric stores)
-Screen printing ink (found at most craft stores)
-Squeegee (or other flat object that will serve the same purpose...I've used an ice scraper before. Whatever works)
Finally found a smart, quick and easy screen printing tutorial that will make me start my project!
Sooooo happy about it!!!
Thanks😉
Your wrong, now get off my comment section
I know you posted this a while ago. I just want to say THANK YOU!!! I've made so many shirts already with this process. It took a minute to perfect everything, especially filling everything completely with the mod podge, but I cannot thank you enough for making screen printing so easy!! It does take time for more intricate pictures, but it's such a fun hobby, and I have my own shirts that not a single other person does! I appreciate you sharing your craft. It's helped me focus my energy and time, and you have no idea what that truly means to me. Anyone out there wanting to screen print: TRY THIS EXACTLY THE WAY PARKER TELLS YOU! Again, thank you. I have a whole new wardrobe now!!!
+Kim B Yay! This is exactly the reason I uploaded this video. I'm the kind of guy that needs to have my own custom stuff, but online resources will charge me an arm and a leg for a single shirt. I'm glad to hear it has helped a kindred spirit
I'm here in 2020, just tried this method...IT WORKS!!!
I added an extra step to his method: instead of just tracing my design onto the screen, then free hand painting around what I traced, I used masking tape to 'mask' my design on the screen, then I painted on the mod podge glue (I suck at painting lol). When the glue dried I gingerly removed the masking tape from the screen. The edges of my design came out crisp & precise, this is evident in the final print.
The benefit of this extra and somewhat tedious step, is that the quality of the print is NOT determined by you painting skills, or in my case lack there of. Lol
Sir, thank you soooooo much for sharing this, I know I'm about 6 years late but, better late than never I guess. Thank you once again Sir🙌🙏
That’s a super helpful tip because my design has a lot of text and while I could fudge a shape, text is awful for me to trace. I wonder if letter stickers instead if that would work like masking tape.
Great idea! I personally thi.k it's easier to paint precisely than to tape precisely
I also loved that you went straight from the materials to the step by step.
In such a very easy to follow instruccion.
Thanks once again.
This was so helpful that I'm going to work on my own line of shirts.
+Pamela Carey Good luck! :)
how re u shirts going?
Pamela Carey how are the shirts going bro?
Shirt vinyl is a great idea too
PAMELA!?
I have always been curious about how screen printing was done and yours was one of the first RUclips tutorials I came across. Loved it! You're very clear and concise about the process....I am feeling super inspired. Thanks so much!!
+Eileen Gavin Larsen Good luck! If you have any other questions, just let me know! :)
+parkernalch Thanks! I'm 55, but I love connecting with youthful brilliance LOL!😃
Today i made my first screen printing shirt and it turned out amazing !!! :)
Thank you so much for your help...
I appreciated.
jorge arabia I'm glad you had success! You are very welcome :)
so i've been looking for ways to find out how to screen print and this is by far the best and fast method
Sweet! Glad it was useful to you
parkernalch can you reuse the screen? does it need to be washed? what kind of screen material is it?
Awesome job. Quick, accurate and precise!! I can't wait to try this Parker. Thanks for sharing it!!!
Have you tied instead of mod pdge regular school glue?
no I haven't Carlos Perez. Maybe next time.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been watching so many other videos that made this process seem so difficult and time consuming. Thank you.
Really it is the more easy way to print t- shirts at home.- Sometimes i was thinking about how i can do it and finally i find this video.- I live in Argentina in a little town and from this place i send you a great CONGRATULATIONS for this video.- Greetings !!!
Glad you liked it! Good luck with your shirt-making!
Good
This is tshirt print made easy! So easy and you can get most of the materials in any craft/stationary stores near you. Thank you so much for this video!
Glad you found it useful :D
i watched another tutorial and was totally lost and overwhelmed. this made it much easier to understand. i thk i can do it!
okie
Thank you for this technique! Much easier than some of the other techniques here on RUclips.
This is the video I've been searching for, very simple! I'm excited to try it out, thanks you are RAD!
ok I have watched a few DIY vids on silk screening and I love yours the best....Inexpensive..uses items easily available and it still comes out looking ultra cool!!! I am going to try!
+bikinggal1 good luck! Let me know how it works out for you!
+Micaiah Scott You iron it once it is completely dry. Otherwise, you risk smearing the ink or blotting it away from the garment
parkernalch i have seen matt smith on the background what is it ? a drawing or anithing to print ?
That is a minimalist-esque painting of Matt Smith (you can see David Tennant just next to it. I figure it would be quite easy to print as long as I had the time to make three screens. I got it as a gift, so I would have to ask whether it was an original work or not before I spent the time printing it
Thank u i really liked your idea of printing it is very helpful to me THANX :D
hello and thank you for your time, I've been wanting to learn how to screen print without spending so much since I always need about 6-8 shirts thank you for the tutorial. my question is... How would I clean the screen? wouldn't the Modge Podge wash off? also, would I be able to stick a vinyl sticker on to the fabric or paper cut out and then squeegee Modge podge through, remove the sticker and then dry the Modge?
+Klaem0re You'll be glad to know that the mod podge does not wash out of the screen. Once it is dry, the screen is set; you can wash ink out without worrying about the glue. If you have the resources to make a vinyl sticker in your desired design, then I'd say go for it! That sounds like a good idea :)
OMGoodness .... I had a friend that used to Professionally do screen printing...
a tough job... if she had ONLY seen Your video... it would have made life more easier...
You are one smart cookie...
"Thank YOU" for sharing this great tutorial...
+Judi Christopher thanks for your kind comment!
When you are washing the screen, is there any special product you use to get all the ink out? This video has been the least anxiety filled tutorial I've watched. Most of the others have 20 more steps that make it seem impossible to do at home. Thank you!
TheDragontamerno3 modge podge is water based. so washing the screen. will probably just, if it gets the ink out. also the modge podge of.
but if it's to not waste organza. organza is really cheap.
maybe you can just reuse it, without washing it. just drying it.
I find that the wet paint will rinse off easily without getting the dried glue too wet, if you do it quickly you can get away with it. Maybe a couple touchups around the edges and it's good for another round for sure.
nice
I just finished printing my first t-shirt with the help of your video and the result is GREAT !! I made my own mod pudge, but I switched to wood/tree glue instead and that worked very nice. Thank you for great video!
Cool! I'm glad it worked out for you :)
How would you suggest doing multiple layers of color? Would you let the ink dry and iron it each time you do a color? Or would it be better to do all of the colors one after another, let it dry, and then iron it? If that makes sense ^^;
my kind of instructional video...you're a simplification genius....love this!!!
+jan foley glad you liked it!
we're going in...tee-shirt printing tomorrow!!!!
May the magic of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book help you in T-Shirt Printing XD
Believe me, it does!

This rocks! I really appreciate it! I have teenage nephews for home making gifts is increasingly difficult. Now I know just what to make them for Christmas!
+Chalane Casdorph Wride awesome! I hope it went well for you :)
Hi, I Have a screen printing kit but your method on making your own screens is Fab .. Thanks
+Sharon Fowell thanks for your comment! I appreciate it
It was VERY helpful! Excellent tutorial and your calm friendly way to explain it all, - loved it!
I'm glad you liked it!
Can you wash these without them fading and getting ruined? I was thinking of making some to sell but I don't want complaints about it, thanks!
This video is awesome! I keep coming back to it because it was one of the videos that really helped me understand how to print shirts back when I first started. Videos like this convinced me that I really could start my own business. Thanks for sharing your skills!
+Journey Apparel TV that's so cool to hear! Good luck in your business :)
Can Yhuu Tell Me EveryThing I Need To Gett To Make My Clothing Look Just Like Yours And Do We Just Print The Design Out?
OMG ....... You are the absolute BEST ..... Thank you so much!!!!!! I have been looking for a simpler way to screen print and showed me the way!!!
I wish you the absolute best of luck in your shirt printing! Let me know how it goes (as well as if you have any questions) :D
I really like your tutorial.. but I want to know if I can use a fabric paint instead of a screen printing ink?
and.. can I also use other glue instead of Mod Podge?..
Janna Teaño
@CarrotShaker I hope it works coz I'm making stencils .
I Can't believe you made this SO EASY!!! Amazing video!!!
I'm so happy you liked it! :D
Harry is the best help :,)
He really is
This is the most creative shirt printing method I've seen :D I don't have the dosh to screenprint and I'm excited to try this out! Thank you! :D
Good luck! If you have any questions, I try to respond to the ones that come in the comments.
Do you know if I can use other glue than Mod Podge? Because I'm not able to purchase it anywhere where I live...
If its sticky it works
Paige Wightman Gonna use Elmer's Glue. Not sure how it will go.
Amazon
Very nice DIY solution for screen printing, thank you for posting this.
+Keith F you're welcome!
is there anyway to use the same logo over and over since you printed on a shirt already ?
RudeAce did you find way to do it dude?
urjnlegend yeah
RudeAce how do you do it then
maybe try laminating the logo, it might help
just wash your screen right away after use with warm water and let it dry. You can use the screen and do multiple shirts all in a row but a fresh clean screen is best so you don't get residual ink from the last time in the next one.
This was a really good video! You make the printing process look simple and approachable for a first timer. Great demeanor in delivery of instruction. Excellent job.
About how many prints can you yield from this method before you lose quality in prints?
I've printed up to twelve without any degradation. I have never pushed a screen to the point of failure, so I can't help you there. Sorry about that :/
Quite alright, that's what I needed to know. Thank you!
Can you just paint with the ink directly on the fabric ?
Probably not recommend
+coolcreeperz recommended*
You can
aaron bonello yes if you are a good artist
I am so thankful for your great instructions and super easy to fellow steps. Thank you so much for sharing!!
Yay! I'm glad it was helpful :) Thank you for commenting; it really means a lot to hear your feedback
damn daniel
Thank you so much for this video! I've always wondered if there was an easy way to print on apparel and I appreciate the time and effort you made to share your discovery with the world! Many million thanks!
You are quite welcome! I'm glad you found it useful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here; I love the opportunity that the comments section gives me to clarify anything that may not have been perfectly understandable.
Totally going to try this, thanks so much for the fab DIY vid =D I had no idea how expensive actual screen printing kits were, wow!!
Great vid I just gotta have a go looks much easyer than other vids I have seen.
Keep them coming. Thanks x
+Dawns woodart good luck! Or If you already did it, how did it turn out? :)
Glad you made this video as I was looking for a simple "hot to screen print" vid to show a young kid in a band that was interested in making shirts while on the road. I've done this many times on tour by making a screen ahead of time like this and taking the ink, screen and squeegee in the van and whenever we needed shirts, this was the super-easy way to print up a batch of shirts in time for a show.
Quick tip: if you don't have an iron handy, you can also toss your printed materials into a dryer and set it on high heat. If you used water based screen printing ink, it works really well. (But still, an iron is the easiest/best way to do it).
WaltBTB That is so cool! Thanks for sharing your tour printing story :) I'm glad you enjoyed the video. When you use the dryer, would I be correct in assuming you dry the shirt inside out?
Yeah, that's what i usually did just in case the ink was slightly tacky anywhere. That way if any ink WASN'T completely dry it would only tough the inside of a shirt and not leaves marks on the outside of any shirts as they tumble around the dryer.
Love your video! Fast, easy and doable. Can't wait to try it on a pillow idea I have. Thanks again!
+Garrett Lampson thanks! Good luck on your pillow idea!
Couple of years late to this,,, but if you wanna go extra cheaper instead of the ink you could use acrylic paint & fabric softener. I haven’t tried it yet but a lot of places I’ve seen that method say it works great + so cheap! Awesome video btw
Your technique saved me $150. THANK YOU!!!!
This was super helpful and much less complicated than other methods! I can´t wait to try it out. Thanks!
+Justin Eller I'm glad it was useful to you! Good luck :)
Great video! I have an independent project for art based on Shepard Fairey's style and I really want to incorporate the art of screenprinting. Best tutorial for DIY I've seen yet!
Sweet! I'm glad you liked it :) good luck!
Your a genius, hun! Bravo!!! Love it!
Awesome technique to DIY printing. I'm a graphic designer and know that the traditional serigraphy is very expensive to do, so for a single print this method makes it possible to do without breaking the bank.
Thanks for sharing that. I've been wondering about easier ways of screen printing. Very helpful.
I've been searching for this. Quick easy . BRILLIANT. Now I'll be able to start my TSHIRT printing business, the easiest way. By June 2020 hopefully.
Thanks for taking the time to make this tutorial, love it!
Thank you so much for the lesson. I always wanted to learn this and thought I would have to have giant equipment. Your lesson gave me confidence for my business. God bless!
Good luck!
You made this so easy! Starting tomorrow. Thanks for the awesome video! loved it and totally understood everything
I'm glad it was useful to you! Good luck on your shirt printing :)
Thanks for taking the time to share this. Can't wait to try it!
I wish you the best of luck in your shirt printing efforts! :)
This was way less bullshit than the hassle needed in other YT vids i've seen on the topic....Well done.
Omg thankyou 👍🏻 been looking for a simple and cheap method that actually works and that I'm able to find all items needed near me at local shops 😉👍🏻 your awsum thanks
thank you, actually the other videos are overwhelming so it's hard to understand, but this video of yours is so easy, thanks
+nestor pe awesome! That's what I was shooting for
Sooooo awesome! thanks for sharing... this is much easier than trying to create that screen thingy using a frame and glass... thank u!!!!
Very good. You really explaned the technique well. I'am going to have a go.
+Brenda Boccara I hope it went well for you!
:-) this is what i say ' the real most simple screen printing of the universe'. Thanks, this is what i am looking for.
So excited to try this, hoping to set up my own clothing business but don't have the funds to invest big whilst I start up, so this is perfect, Thanks!
Beth Leadbetter That sounds awesome! I wish you the best of luck in your clothing business :)
This cool guy makes easy way to learn a new idea👍
You rock!! I wanted to do some screen printing, but I am on a tight budget. I love your style.
+Franchetta Beckford I wish you the best of luck! Let me know if you have any questions
This is deffinetley the simplest way to do it and it leaves a lot of space for customisation. All the other videos I've seen are good but they focus more on an industrial approach to it. This one I like more , thanks man ( :
I love this method for that exact reason. You don't need any extra special materials or graphic design know how to make a shirt you are happy with :) glad you liked it!
Wow! 🤗 mahalo so much! I’m so excited to try this...I’ve been on a screen painting video bender for days, maybe even weeks lol...this is doable...I actually have everything already except for the ink and squeegee thing. Much Aloha from Maui. Mahalo for sharing your knowledge! Truly. God Bless You! ❤️😇🙏🌈🌺🌴🌊🏄♀️🎚🕊💛🌸✨❣️
was the best way that I've seen so far that doesn't seem problematic for myself lol. I've seen other ways, I learned the "pro" ways. but damn this seems simple!
Thanks! I've had a lot of success doing simpler designs this way when I don't want to spend the time setting the photoemulsion and waiting for it to expose.
Fabulous demo! Never knew it could be that easy--thought I' d have to pay big bucks for a professional. Its just what I need for the political work I am doing. Will recommend your site on to others! Thanks for helping out our democracy in these critical times!
+CNN -Cupcake Nation News good luck and thanks for the kind words!
Nice video man, ultra helpful for beginners especially. Thanks for the video, much appreciated.
+Diji thanks for the kind words! Glad you liked it
This is a really great and helpful inatruction video.
Ps. Love your jughead crown 💜❤
Omg thank you ....this vid was like the 8th video i watched and it was the easiest.
Parker your tute was amazing. Thank you!
+M Ali Thank you so much!
Thanks for making this video, I was able to print my logo on 2 shirts. They turned out great!
+Smartscope98 Congratulations! I love hearing success stories :)
I couldn't tell whether you said mad Mod Podge or matte Mod Podge so I got mad matte Mod Podge. Thanks for the awesome video!
Fantastic video! Super easy and clear !!!!
+rig delapaz glad you liked it!
Thanks! This is much easier than the photo stuff and I don't have to deal with the chemicals... And I don't have to have a bunch of printing frames because I can just change out the silk. This was a really genius idea. :)
I'm glad you liked it! Have you used the photo emulsion extensively before?
Super neat video! I like the legend of Zelda logo you had :) and Harry Potter books do make lovely weights when in a pinch haha thumbs up. You're awesome.
Thanks! I checked out your channel and those resin fish charms are so cool!!
parkernalch Awh thanks so much for watching! They're pretty fun to make albeit tie consuming, much like stencils and screen printing :p what would you say was your most intricate screen print you've done?
(aly)AwayLemonade Beyond a certain point, intricacy stops mattering if you switch to a method that uses photoemulsion. You can copy anything you can print on a piece of paper! That aside, this design is the one I am the most proud of: imgur.com/8C3M9gs :)
Hmm yes I was thinking of a hobby knife and itty bitty details for applique stencils (which is the method I used to do) but the method you showed in your video seems much better. The musical instruments are gorgeous I'd never be able to tell it was handmade very professional work!
Awsome and very helpful you totally simplified thirty art transfers! Thank you.
Irene
(The art of) not thirty I guess I can't spell anyway thanks again
irene betzold haha thank you so much! I'm glad the video proved useful to you :)
Excellent! I can't wait to try this! I'm so excited.
Ok I'm actually going to try this I didn't realize it could be so easy
You saved my money, thank you. Bless you!
So simple. Making the screen is tedious but this is a badass technique. I’m going to make some square frames rather then using the hoop. Thanks !
wow! short and interesting video and simple tutorial. thanks for sharing!!!! ^~^
+Hae.89 glad you liked it :)
Hi there, awesome video. I just had one question. Does this trick also work on a dark/black shirt with white paint?? Thanks =)
WOW! Very good video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I have a question...can you use again your screen? Can you wash it with a special product so you can use the screen many times to do more then one t-shirt!?
+ebd22 heck yeah! Just wash with water while the ink is still wet. The ink will wash out and leave the glue so you can print the design again!
Wow!
Awesome, Looks so easy to follow.
And I love that design.
How can I get it.
I don't know how to draw , I'm very bad at it.
My question is is ir any organza ir just the clear one.
And thank you for sharing this information and tutorial.
God keep Blessing you.
The fabric just needs to be translucent and porous. If there are other colors, you can use them too. They may make the tracing step a little more difficult. You don't need excellent art skills to achieve this. All you need is the ability to trace.
Wow! Thank you-this looks like the cheapest method for screen printing. Thank you for sharing your mad skills😁
+Oliver Phillips it was my pleasure! Hope you have success in your project!
Very helpful! I remember seeing this process but with another resist material instead of mod podge, and was wondering if there was an alternative--thanks again!
This is awesome! Thank you for sharing! Question - if one wanted to layer wording over that image...after the first image dried would I do the second layer before ironing? This sounds like a stupid question as I'm typing but I don't want to screw it up!
First of all, great video! Really useful and simple to understand.
I just wanted to know, how durable is this way of printing? Can the print withstand multiple washings in your experience/knowledge?
I'm looking for a simple method for printing on some handmade things I want to sell so I wanted to make sure.
Thanks!
now I can make a MDE ( my digital Escape) t-shirt for Warped Tour this summer
Thanks for the video/ help 😊👍👍
I'll wish you good luck (despite your comment being 4 weeks old and you may well have completed it already)! I hope it goes/went well!
This was very helpful. Cant wait to try this.
Good luck!
Thank you, it came out really good, even that I did some letters, not perfect but close, also I have to put at leats three coats of the glue and do some testing before the final print :)
totally awesome.. very smart and detailed. I love this thank u.
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad it was useful to you :)
Very helpful. Was looking for this solution 👍
Amazing and simple! Great tutorial, thank you
+Inga Hartmann glad you liked it!
Thanks Parker, this is very useful.
