    It is a pretty simple ration, but I kind of like it. It seems to be quite filling, I would probably really enjoy the buckwheat stuff. As you mention in the review, if I was out in field, and cold, I'd probably be feeling pretty good after eating one of the meals in this.

    • @gundog4314

      Travis Stewart Sometimes simple is better. For example the Japanese have really good rations. Cheers

      gundog4314 I have not tried them, but I have watched a lot of reviews of them now, and agree. The Japanese ones look very good, they are on the top of my list of rations I want to try.

    if honey goes candied (crystallized) you can sit the bottle in hot water for a bit and it will return to normal!

    • @BogdanZB
      @BogdanZB 7 лет назад +1

      Don't do it, you will ruin the properties and synthesize hydroxymethylfurfural which is
      carcinogenic.

    That second breakfast can is tushenka. In Russia and other Warsaw pact countries, it's often called "tourist's breakfast". The better ones are more beef or pork and less fat.

    actualy those rations were nice. Of course we had field kitchens and nice alomost home made meals while positioned in the trenches. But guys who whent to long time recon and survived siedge of airport where actually very thankfull for those rations. And by the way u actualy are given a multitool that has spoon to normaly eat

    First time I've seem honey in a ration, it think it's a great idea being it never goes bad and is loaded with tasty calories.

    • @Thor.Jorgensen
      @Thor.Jorgensen 8 лет назад +4

      +GreenAppelPie It never goes bad, has calories AND also helps prevent the most common illnesses such as the common cold AND is anti inflammatory at the same time.
      Heck it can even be used for cleaning wounds after covering it with bandages, and treat skin ulcers, all of which are common when in the military.
      It's pretty dang handy provided it's real honey and not just a synthetic mix of corn syrup. If you ask me it should be part of every ration considering the benefits.
      It should also be mentioned that buckwheat also helps ease the symptoms of a cold.
      The only thing you'd have to worry about in this ration would be diabetes, especially considering the sugar packs, but that's still unlikely and nitpicking.

    • @Gustavlegion
      @Gustavlegion 8 лет назад

      +Thor Jørgensen For my people with diabetes have no place in the army)))

    • @Thor.Jorgensen
      @Thor.Jorgensen 8 лет назад

      Gustavlegion I did say I was nitpicking on that lol. I'm quite certain that you'd have to eat at least a kilo honey a day for that to kick in, and there's no way that is going to happen from the time you are in the army.

    I know it sounds bizzare, but in Ukraine some companies print the date when the product were made. So some of that stuff could be actually reletively fresh.

    The oil in the coffee is from the spoon as you were eating with it then stirred the coffee with it.

    One can, of course, heat honey, but never by crystal clear one in the shops, especially in the autumn or winter, because it may be just overheated honey, but producer may have adulterated it with sugar syrup. For example, I have this years forest flowers and dandelion honey and it is already cristalysing.

  • @rockyraab8290

    I was going to say the meal with pate had to be the evening meal - but that was the only one with coffee, so unless Ukranians drink their coffee at night, you had it right. The best answer to those who say rations are awful is that for a soldier it's the finest cuisine for 100 miles.

    There is a mistake in the lunch bag as the can says "tourists breakfast"

  • @CrazyMaxUA
    @CrazyMaxUA 9 лет назад +2

    Here is translation of few sentences on the pack:
    1) at the top said - "Armed Forces of Ukraine";
    2) lil' bit lower - "everyday set of dry foods";
    3) manufacture date: August 8th, 2014
    expiration date: May 19th, 2016.

    • @CrazyMaxUA
      @CrazyMaxUA 9 лет назад

      Crazy Max
      Tin Cans:
      1) breakfast - pearl barley porridge with beef;
      2) lunch - "tourist's breakfast" (beef);
      3) dinner - rice porridge with beef;
      As for dates on the cans: sometimes they type expiration date, sometimes it's a manufacture date and you have to read label in order to find out duration time (e.g. 3, 6, 9 or 12 months).

      @dmytrotkachov6859 8 лет назад

      +TokenChineseGuy's Rare Music! i was growing poor and i had completely different situation. Caned, processed meat is much more expensive compared to fresh meat, at least in Ukraine. We dont have problems with fresh good quality products at all. I believe that i`ve tasted only once or twice in my life something like that beef (probably when i was a little boy) and never tasted canned kashas.

    good video. They are get a lot of EU and Nato rations. They are coming out with a newer ration, once they used up the left - over Russian items. Ukraine was a big supplier to the Russian forces, before the problem. Raw Garlic, Buckwheat, and black tea is still back up rations.

    • @gundog4314

      Diebulfrog79 I have been very fortunate to try rations from all over the area. I can honestly say the only ones I haven't cared for or at least wouldn't purchase again were from right here in the US.

    • @Diebulfrog79

      It's worse when you are working for companies that deals with military of certain areas. The worse rations are from third world countries. One time, I had 6 cans of tuna, 3 ramen packs and bag of rice. And that was a good one.

      Толик Мандра The problem is - all soldiers should get chocolate and/or candies. That's helluva burst of energy, for the brains included.
      Remember how the Allies were shocked when they first saw field ration of german troops in 40's? A sodding chocolate for every single soldier - footman, panzer crewman, pilot alike.
      Just don't go over the top like the french did, heheh.

    • @elizabethshaw734
      @elizabethshaw734 8 лет назад

      GreenAppelPie yes! The bitter part is up for debate as some people like a stronger coffee and the strength of the coffee makes it taste bitter and instant coffee tends to taste bitter. While there are other coffees that have no bitterness at all.:-)

    • @elizabethshaw734
      @elizabethshaw734 8 лет назад

      GreenAppelPie you are correct and the oil is always on the top from little tiny droplets that can't really be seen to bigger ones that they are and some are almost like an oil slick on top it all depends on the type of coffee bean and the way it is roasted! :-)

    Whats the big deal about sugar? Is a common thing in the UK. we dont use high fructose corn syrup.
    Thank goodness, that stuff is vile. I bought i lod of iconic US chocolate bars and pb and j spread and threw it all out, i had no idea HFCS was sooo disgusting. The US should ban it.

    • @gundog4314

    • @pinz2022
      @pinz2022 9 лет назад +2

      gundog4314 It's because the U.S. sugar interests have a powerful lobby in congress that imposes a tariff on Caribbean sugar that boosts it over 50% over the world market price. High Fructose Corn Syrup is cheaper here than this inflated price. HFCS is used NOWHERE else on Earth.

    • @agentfungus9742
      @agentfungus9742 9 лет назад

      pinz2022 : Isn't HFCS also just plain bad for you as opposed to cane sugar? I've been reading labels the past couple of years. Yuck. HFCS is in everything in the US. We also have corn ethanol in our gasoline. Gunks up engines and reduces milage. The corn lobby is very powerful in the US.

      darek4488 Probably to limit how much you can eat and to save it if you are not in active shootouts. You do know most of them are in front lines. Ukraine is in war you know.

      +MarieIvanda Undseth Expiration dates or markings doesn't mean "turns into poison on this day". Most of it is for commercial stocking so they know when to rotate food stuffs. I think all of the reviewers on here have tried 10 or 20 years old (or older) rations and they have been just fine. Of course always trust the sniff test. Cheers

      Acear Bern A lot of nations, whose military budgets can't afford M.R.E pouches. Also depends on weather, cans and freeze -dried are prefer in colder areas. Have you eaten a frozen MRE in winter?

      Acear Bern Off the top of my head, based on the reviews I have seen, Russia, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Estonia, and probably others I have now forgotten. At least, they did in the videos I saw, for some of the components.

      Travis Stewart personally I prefer food packs and the heater, more lightweight and convenient

    • @kimunicorn
      @kimunicorn 9 лет назад +1

      acexprt It's the Gundog Drinking Game. Every time he says "Go Ahead", you are to drink the beverage of your choosing (Usually alcoholic, but not if you're underage).

    • @lisamona5363
      @lisamona5363 9 лет назад +1

      kimunicorn Gundog has a few phrases/words you can drink too .... "right off the bat" and anytime he mentions his dog's names are 2 suggestions.

    • @gundog4314
      @gundog4314  9 лет назад +1

      acexprt Yeah, I sometimes repeat the same word or phrase if you haven't noticed. Makes things fun. Cheers!

    • @gundog4314
      @gundog4314  8 лет назад

      +Андрій Нагорний Oh, it was an inside joke. In my earlier vids I said "Go Ahead" a lot and it turned into a drinking game. Everytime I said go ahead those playing had to take a shot of alcohol. By the end of some vids some viewers would be drunk. Needless to say I try to use less go aheads in my vids. Cheers!

    • @didandron
      @didandron 8 лет назад +1

      +gundog4314 oh, cool. I thought so, but didn't really link it with 'go ahead'
