I use a dollar store coffee ground strainer to keep the tallow clean & put it in a glass jar. And, the presence of maltodextrin in a prepared product is a bit weird by itself. Maltodextrin has no flavor - sweet or otherwise. I, too, am on the Carnivore wagon. I’m 73, on Carnivore nearly a year and have lost 47 pounds. I’m at a good weight for my height of 5’8”. I am a voracious ingredients reader like you. I’ve discovered an excellent snack using carnivore mayonnaise: deviled eggs. Easy to make, very good for us, and possibly quite tasty (lost my taste and smell 2.5 years ago). Give it a shot, and well done to you on your weight loss journey!
Snacks are a tough category. I like eggs so an egg snack would be deviled eggs using mayo and dill pickle relish. A second snack would be shrimp cocktail. Watch for sugar in the dipping sauce but sugar free ketchup would be a base with a little horseradish, hot sauce, pepper. Alternative sauce would be tartar sauce or remoulade sauce. Of course the old faithful pork rinds with something to dip them in like Rotel cheese dip, with or without crumbled cooked sausage, pimento cheese. Processed snacks are unhealthy and almost always have msg, nitrates, heavy salt, etc., all of which are bad for you.
I completely agree with you! Why is it so hard to just find such a simple thing. If I want a grilled chicken snack pack why is it not just grilled chicken and maybe some salt, as you stated what is rice starch even doing in there Lol! I found even finding jerky that is just beef, salt and maybe some celery salt is so hard to find.
Sodium Nitrite in bacon - usually considered carnivore. Celery Powder is used for the natural nitrites it has - I prefer to know where my nitrites come from - so, celery powder is not objectionable for me.
I make sausage, they are using the celery powder rather than nitrites for the cure, hope this helps. It also takes VERY little to cure large amounts of meat.
We are going on an 8 day road trip soon and we got the sliced beef for our car cooler. We are making some hard boiled eggs and cutting up some cheese slices. I think I'll look for the beef sticks before we leave and maybe take some of those along too. I've never seen those in our Costco before but I typically just shop the raw meat and dairy section.
Hi Jay, I really enjoy your videos and find your way of presenting your Carnivore lifestyle encouraging to me. Even though I have continued to give in to my own carb-cravings, I am still hopeful that I can get to 100% Carnivore and resolve the last of my health issues. I have had so very many health benefits from the 66 months I have been 95% Carnivore. If only I can just overcome that last 5% where I have fallen off the Carnivore train. You are one of my support group and I appreciate all your videos and showing how you accomplish your own way of implementing this way of living. If you lived close by, I would want you in my personal circle of friends as I do not have one single person around me who supports me in this effort to be 100% Carnivore. For snacks, this is what I do. I cook a kilo of thick-cut bacon on cookie sheets with parchment paper under, in my oven. The fat can be drained off easily for use later. Then I cut each strip in half with scissors. I pack 6 pieces or 3 full strips of the cooked bacon into little zip-loc snack bags and put them into the freezer. When I feel I really need a snack I can pull one of those out and they thaw out within minutes, already pre-cooked and ready to eat.
Ah yes, that last 5%. I struggle w that too - for me it’s raw dairy. I don’t expect any support from the people I know. At first they thought I was crazy; now that I’ve lost so much weight they’re quieter. But it is nice that we have RUclips for sharing information.
Hi Jay Great pick my wife picked me up these Beef Sticks today they where 4 Bucks off at Costco then i noticed your video sad to myself lets see if jay picks this i havent tried these before
Some prep but my go to snack is deviled eggs,,,,using “Chosen Foods” Avocado Mayonnaise, salt, paprika, dill relish, & mustard……then you know what the ingredients are…
Saw a video that said they did a study that if you are zero carb, you don’t need to do intermittent fasting because intermittent fasting is a way to have zero carbs.
Hi Jay, me again. I forgot to ask if your aware of a Great sugar substitute that not only doesn't raise our blood sugar, but it's also a great cavity protector and it has other health benefits. It's very popular in Europe. The name is Xylitol.
I had no idea there were other sections to look for meat. I'll have to look around more next time I go. I've yet to see any rib eye roast. The only amazing thing I'd ever found was short ribs.
Tacos snack: Egg white wraps, homemade shredded chicken, bacon, salsa verde, sour cream, tomato…this is my cheat meal. Egg white wraps are good on the Forman for quesadillas too! Delicious cheat and not so bad that you gain.
Good informative video. I've been eating those beef sticks for quite a while. I also keep a supply of hard boiled eggs for a snack. My main snack food is I make a batch of Laura Spaths meatballs and keep a container in the fridge.
Jerky is also a good option for snacks. Unfortunately, most jerky is "flavored' with anything but carnivore ingredients. You can make your own with just salt and a dehydrator. You only need the cheap cuts like a bottom round for the meat.
BJs is like that..I found the best to go is early when it opens or late..late is best because when you are in a rush before it closes..you don't have time to meander and stop to get things you don't need.
You know, I just came across the carnivore bars yesterday. They are pricey, but they sound really good. I may buy a couple of packs just to try them out.
Hard boiled eggs, some fried up pork belly and/or beef chunks, homemade jerky. Dang near impossible to find a true carnivore pre-packaged snack. Celery is full of nitrates and nitrites and cures meat like the chemicals alone, it's just a marketing gimmick 😂
Yep, I usually avoid the celery salt, but I wanted to get at least one snack for the video. I never shopped for carnivore snacks like this, and I had no idea how tough it is to get a true carnivore snack.
@@Jaylwoodworth Personally I have no problem eating nitrates and nitrites but avoid celery. The body naturally makes nitrates/nitrites and whenever we eat our saliva fills with them to sanitize what we are eating. Celery comes with all the other plant stuff so give me the pure chemicals 😆
You could invest in a good dehydrator and make your own beef jerky. Not as hard as you would think 😊. Lots of videos on RUclips about how to make them.
Pepperoni/cheader cheese/slice of dill pickle, layer them on top of each other. Bake in the oven until crispy and now you have cheddar cheese, pepperoni pickle chips delicious

Everyone is different and incorporate spices in their carnivore way of eating, so some of the beef sticks are just fine! I have been on the ketogenic way of eating (which carnivore is a part of) since 2020, have lost 100 lbs, (not 70) and have maintained that for more than a year now! What is good for one person may not be good for others!! I am not a carnivore, more meat heavy keto is my way of eating. God luck on your journey! Congrats on your 70 lb. loss!!
I understand your wanting to be social and snack with the others. I’ve tried this as well. I found that simply not eating when others do ( for the sake of eating ) works best for me. If they ask , why aren’t you eating I simply say I’ve already ate mine . They say it like an Alcoholic or Drug addict substituting one thing for another. You don’t have to apologize for your not wanting to eat. If you want to break the rule then I’d go with some xtra dark sugar free chocolate!😁😂😂😂
good to see another carnivore shopping vid! i had heard from the gurus that if spam is all you can afford it's fine. well i've been liking to make spam chips. cut thin and bake until crunchy. today i looked on the can. its 12 carbs for the can 🤯 didn't notice that before. read the labels!! so this was a good to see you looking for snack items. the celery salt and sugars help preserve meat. if you just had meat and salt in a package it wouldn't last as long unless it was properly dried which i don't think those products are. also it would be drier than most would like. most consumers like tasty food and don't buy for health. you don't touch much on electrolytes. maybe do a video on that? as your channel grows, i'm sure LMNT will be sponsoring you🙄 i complain but just bought some to see if i feel better although i have good salt, magnesium and potassium to make my own. it arrives tomorrow. looking forward to trying it. thanks for inspiring!
I find that adding fruit in with a carnivore diet and going animal based works best, at least for me. My primary source of calories and energy still comes from animal meat, but having fruit in the mix really makes snacking easier.
Their cost per pound is a LOT less to sell on the retail market if carbs are used since they are a cheap ingredient. They are in the market to make money, not care for health. If they know people will buy something that is cheap, why would they try to decrease their profit margin for our healthy.
Try getting a pork belly at Costco…par boil for a bit and it will cut up easier..then fry them up in their own fat…until brown and crunchy on the outside but yummy fat inside…salt to taste and it makes a great snack
I’ve been planning to address that subject for a while now. Will do a video in the next few weeks. Meat is a much more condensed source of nutrition than most other foods, so it’s normal to go from every day to a couple times per week. I found this disconcerting too, but have gotten used to it.
Why it's so hard to get a carnivore snack is because the tobacco companies bought most of the food companies out years ago. Research it bud, the truth. Dr Baker actually just posted a video he found of a guy telling all of this. GL. meat is life
I use the pickle pork rinds, and that meat like you were getting those sticks and sometimes a stick of cheese comes with it don’t have to impress anybody who cares I don’t eat snacks like I used to
Many people choose to avoid spices on carnivore, but it’s not like you’re going to get struck by lighting if you add some hot pepper to your steak. I’m still drinking coffee and the carnivore diet police haven’t shown up at my door yet 🙂 That said, many people start carnivore to deal with auto-immune issues, and limiting diet to meat and salt seems to work wonders for them. Try it and see what works for you.
What 80 lbs that is great can I call you to find out how to do it. I just baught a juicer for 5oo dollars and am sending it back because it is to expensive to by fruits and vegies. Please Help.
Just bake some bacon/pork belly, hamburger balls with cheese. The others can have souces you can make a mayo for yourself. No need to overdo that,in my opinion.
I don't think our metabolism slows down in our 30s. I think our bodies just give up trying because we've been feeding them crap and frankinfood for 30 years. The only thing we've found at costco that is truly carnivore and not full of additives is the meat and/or dairy department. You have to make your own snacks. Side note, those carnitas have maltodextrin in them. Not good. We check the ingredient list every time even for items we buy regularly because they change over time. Especially when the company is bought up by big food.
They were ok. I would buy them again if I needed a convenient snack, or if I was travelling. A couple of them would replace dinner. But I wouldn’t get them for an everyday snack or meal. I’d definitely get them instead of Chomps.
Guy walks down several aisles of processed foods and is shocked to find weird ingredients! If you venture beyond the fresh meat section, what do you expect? 🤷🏽♂️
I’ve been carnivore for 10 years. The best option is always a meat and cheese platter maybe some deviled eggs. Make your own meat and make bite sized and add toothpicks with some cheese -
I tend to snack on pork rinds, certain types of cheese and meat sticks when I would have the urge to snack… mainly when I just wanna chill and watch Netflix or a movie etc lol.

Sodium Nitrite in bacon - usually considered carnivore. Celery Powder is used for the natural nitrites it has - I prefer to know where my nitrites come from - so, celery powder is not objectionable for me.
Thanks for the Content Jay' As Always A Thumbs Up👍.Cheers& Have a Wonderful Weekend😎⭐💙🌟
Thanks for the comment!
I make sausage, they are using the celery powder rather than nitrites for the cure, hope this helps. It also takes VERY little to cure large amounts of meat.
Thanks Jay, I guess we need to pay more attention!
Great travel snacks!
I get them beef sticks and pork rinds once in awhile small amounts.
@@Jaylwoodworth Thanks Jay, I appreciate your support... I added what I do for snacks to my comment.
The bacon is a great idea - much healthier than the beef sticks and cheaper too!
Hi Jay Great pick my wife picked me up these Beef Sticks today they where 4 Bucks off at Costco then i noticed your video sad to myself lets see if jay picks this i havent tried these before
Some prep but my go to snack is deviled eggs,,,,using “Chosen Foods” Avocado Mayonnaise, salt, paprika, dill relish, & mustard……then you know what the ingredients are…
@@francesfarmer736 thanks, this sounds so good!
Yeah, the jerky snacks are best avoided. Either they are marinated in sugar or are spicy enough to give stomach upset.
I stay away from all sweeteners. After the first couple of months I lost the taste for them. Only flavoring I use is salt.
I had no idea there were other sections to look for meat. I'll have to look around more next time I go. I've yet to see any rib eye roast. The only amazing thing I'd ever found was short ribs.
Try making the homemade pemmican bars like Anita, ketogenic woman & Neah of Neahs Way did over the past few weeks.
Tacos snack: Egg white wraps, homemade shredded chicken, bacon, salsa verde, sour cream, tomato…this is my cheat meal. Egg white wraps are good on the Forman for quesadillas too! Delicious cheat and not so bad that you gain.
Thanks for the tip! Not quite carnivore but a very good chest meal.
Good informative video. I've been eating those beef sticks for quite a while. I also keep a supply of hard boiled eggs for a snack. My main snack food is I make a batch of Laura Spaths meatballs and keep a container in the fridge.
That’s a great idea
Thx for sharing. I’m not a snacker but we never know. Costcos are few and far between in my city. 👏🇦🇺
Jerky is also a good option for snacks. Unfortunately, most jerky is "flavored' with anything but carnivore ingredients. You can make your own with just salt and a dehydrator. You only need the cheap cuts like a bottom round for the meat.
Thanks for the tip!
Here on Long Island my Costcos are always packed. Whenever I watch you it’s empty. I envy you lol
It can get pretty packed here too, but weekday mornings are usually good.
BJs is like that..I found the best to go is early when it opens or late..late is best because when you are in a rush before it closes..you don't have time to meander and stop to get things you don't need.
Thanks Jay!
Try sardines in water, boiled eggs, pork rinds.
Thanks for the tip!
Have you ever bought the "Carnivore Bars" ? Now they are pricey!
You know, I just came across the carnivore bars yesterday. They are pricey, but they sound really good. I may buy a couple of packs just to try them out.
Congratulations on your weight loss.. agree snacks are lacking
You can always make your own. Get a smoker and make your own smoked beef jerky strips. My friend makes venison jerky and I love those for a snack.
You could invest in a good dehydrator and make your own beef jerky. Not as hard as you would think 😊. Lots of videos on RUclips about how to make them.
good intel thanks for sharing
Good walk. In case you don't know, the "natural flavor" in your beef stick is probably neuro-toxic MSG.
cultured celery powder acts as a natural preservative
nothing in a package is carnivore friendly better to make your own beef jerky or jerked pork belly
Make brown butter bites with bacon pieces.
Pepperoni/cheader cheese/slice of dill pickle, layer them on top of each other. Bake in the oven until crispy and now you have cheddar cheese, pepperoni pickle chips delicious
Not carnivore because of the pickles and spices in the pepperoni, but it does sound delicious, and perfect if you’re on the keto diet.
What about a cheese and deli platter⁉Deviled Eggs⁉
The 🇺🇸Prices…which I would have thought “reasonable”
are really quite high‼A complete surprise to me‼‼
Jay, I am sure you were the best host‼‼‼😋😋
Gladys🇨🇦Toronto🇨🇦Canada🇨🇦
Thanks! Yes, I found groceries to be cheaper in Toronto than in the US - except for the meat. Meat was pricey there.
nothing wrong with spices on Carnivore if they don't bother you then season your food!!!! Specially spice capsaicin boosts metabolism!!!!
Once I go off Lion Diet I will be adding a bit of capsaicin to my diet. I love hot peppers.
@@Jaylwoodworth Ahh I didn't know you was full on Lion first time I have ever seen one of your videos it popped up on my feed. Yeah a little spice wakes stuff up for sure!!
If I have to snack, I'll make some deviled eggs. I use spices all the time, as long as it doesn't contain sugar. I'm about to turn 62, dropped 85 pounds since 8/23.
Good work on the 85 pound weight loss! You’ve lost 15 pounds more than me in that time !
@@Jaylwoodworth I only eat 1 meal a day 95% of the time and threw in a few 3 day fasts and one 5 day fast. I haven't done a multi day fast in a couple months. And I still drink some rum & cherry coke zero on the weekends. I live in Florida, it's pretty much a requirement.
Makes sense, soft boil some eggs, have some hard cheese, I like to snack on grass fed butter and cheese together cook up some scotch fillet put it in the refrigerator then slice it up.
Hi! What is scotch fillet?
Hey brother, just make your own snacks...
Like jerky or bacon crisps.
Congrats on your 70 lb. loss!!
Thanks!
For me, sometimes I just succumb to the temptation in these circumstances, so. I’ve learned best to have a carnivore snack on hand just in case.
good to see another carnivore shopping vid! i had heard from the gurus that if spam is all you can afford it's fine. well i've been liking to make spam chips. cut thin and bake until crunchy. today i looked on the can. its 12 carbs for the can 🤯 didn't notice that before. read the labels!! so this was a good to see you looking for snack items. the celery salt and sugars help preserve meat. if you just had meat and salt in a package it wouldn't last as long unless it was properly dried which i don't think those products are. also it would be drier than most would like. most consumers like tasty food and don't buy for health. you don't touch much on electrolytes. maybe do a video on that? as your channel grows, i'm sure LMNT will be sponsoring you🙄 i complain but just bought some to see if i feel better although i have good salt, magnesium and potassium to make my own. it arrives tomorrow. looking forward to trying it. thanks for inspiring!
Im sure it’s better than regular non-carnivore food, but that’s still too many carbs.
Clean jerky, clean beef sticks, plain pork rinds…that’s about it.
I make my own beef jerky and meat chips - soooo easy and waaay cheaper
I find that adding fruit in with a carnivore diet and going animal based works best, at least for me. My primary source of calories and energy still comes from animal meat, but having fruit in the mix really makes snacking easier.
Glad it works for you. For me fruit brings on carb cravings so I have to be very careful.
i literally got back from costco now. got me some of those peanut butter waffer bars lol. they ok. probably going to take a while to eat them.
I used to eat all of those sort of snacks . 😵💫😵💫😵💫I’d be in a trance not able to stop
Their cost per pound is a LOT less to sell on the retail market if carbs are used since they are a cheap ingredient. They are in the market to make money, not care for health. If they know people will buy something that is cheap, why would they try to decrease their profit margin for our healthy.
Very true
Awesome vid Jay! Did you see the scowl on that lady at 7:34 😮
Yep, you see that look here often - a typical Connecticut scowl 😂
Celery powder has nitrates in it. Its a sneaky way of adding them
Nitrates are actually good for you they produce nitric oxide, which is very beneficial. fact check, Dr. Nathan Bryan . 4:13
@@CarnivoreguyScott I don't pay attention to nitrates. But when a company makes a big deal of not having them, it's not totally true
I made egg salad for my diet, and smoked hard “boiled” eggs, and beef jerky
Thank you for doing the video, you saved me a trip to Costco for prepared carnivore snacks.
Try getting a pork belly at Costco…par boil for a bit and it will cut up easier..then fry them up in their own fat…until brown and crunchy on the outside but yummy fat inside…salt to taste and it makes a great snack
I love Costco pork belly!
Please do a video on staying regular. I had to give up carnivore because I just couldn't go.
I’ve been planning to address that subject for a while now. Will do a video in the next few weeks. Meat is a much more condensed source of nutrition than most other foods, so it’s normal to go from every day to a couple times per week. I found this disconcerting too, but have gotten used to it.
@rburton34 eat more fat
Add more fat to your diet... it usually takes care of that.... at least it did for me🎉😂
Magnesium citrate/500mg
Buy your own food dryer and make your own beef or bacon jerky.
Why it's so hard to get a carnivore snack is because the tobacco companies bought most of the food companies out years ago. Research it bud, the truth. Dr Baker actually just posted a video he found of a guy telling all of this. GL. meat is life
I use the pickle pork rinds, and that meat like you were getting those sticks and sometimes a stick of cheese comes with it don’t have to impress anybody who cares I don’t eat snacks like I used to
Eye opening! Need to be a label reader.
Definitely
Hard boiled eggs
They have zero sugar, meat sticks that are good for carnivore
I haven’t bought them yet, however I HEARD the chicken skewers are good, you’re on a diet but I think I gain weight when watching your videos.😂
🤣
You can’t have any spices on the Carnivore Diet????????
Many people choose to avoid spices on carnivore, but it’s not like you’re going to get struck by lighting if you add some hot pepper to your steak. I’m still drinking coffee and the carnivore diet police haven’t shown up at my door yet 🙂
That said, many people start carnivore to deal with auto-immune issues, and limiting diet to meat and salt seems to work wonders for them. Try it and see what works for you.
why not just cook your own chicken breasts, meat strips etc etc, and chop them up - for the sake of 20mins of cooking its got to be worth it?
Now that I’ve seen just how lacking the supermarkets are when it comes to carnivore snacks, that’s what I’ll do.
What 80 lbs that is great can I call you to find out how to do it. I just baught a juicer for 5oo dollars and am sending it back because it is to expensive to by fruits and vegies. Please Help.
Deli meat?
Just bake some bacon/pork belly, hamburger balls with cheese. The others can have souces you can make a mayo for yourself. No need to overdo that,in my opinion.
Those are some great tips
I don't think our metabolism slows down in our 30s. I think our bodies just give up trying because we've been feeding them crap and frankinfood for 30 years. The only thing we've found at costco that is truly carnivore and not full of additives is the meat and/or dairy department. You have to make your own snacks.
Side note, those carnitas have maltodextrin in them. Not good. We check the ingredient list every time even for items we buy regularly because they change over time. Especially when the company is bought up by big food.
Jerry! Jerry!
I am new to this way of eating- Why no spices ?
ahhh to be 30 again... i will be 50 in 2 weeks.
everytime I see those beef sticka, I wonder how they are. Would you buy them again?
They were ok. I would buy them again if I needed a convenient snack, or if I was travelling. A couple of them would replace dinner. But I wouldn’t get them for an everyday snack or meal. I’d definitely get them instead of Chomps.
@@lovechangesus we just tried those beef sticks and they are only ok. Not much flavor. We grilled some and it made them alot better tasting..
@@hollandspinehaven2634 thank you.
@@Jaylwoodworth thank you
If you are going off the carnivore temporarily, do jerky, nuts and cheese
Guy walks down several aisles of processed foods and is shocked to find weird ingredients! If you venture beyond the fresh meat section, what do you expect? 🤷🏽♂️
I’ve been carnivore for 10 years. The best option is always a meat and cheese platter maybe some deviled eggs. Make your own meat and make bite sized and add toothpicks with some cheese -
I think I will do that next time - no more trying to buy snacks.
Stick to the meat department , nothing good in the prepackaged section!
Processed?!? Tons and tons of chemicals! No way.
Read your labels!!
I tend to snack on pork rinds, certain types of cheese and meat sticks when I would have the urge to snack… mainly when I just wanna chill and watch Netflix or a movie etc lol.
I was actually thinking of getting pork rinds, but I did not see any at Costco. Great tip!
@@Jaylwoodworth hope you have a great day! Take care!
No hidden crap!😮
Pork rinds are only snack. I just try not to snack
We are mainstream. We eat meat and everyone eats meat except vegetarians
Meat sticks, cheese sticks and pork rinds oh my. So sad how many horrible snacks that try to tempt me.
