That water maker boost pump relay looks a little under-sized maybe?? Motors are inductive loads which means they are harder on the relay contacts than for example a solid-state relay. Every time the relay opens (shuts off) the inductive load will spike the voltage way up and cause an arc to form across the relay contacts. This is what burns them out. You might look into using a solid-state relay instead of that mechanical one. They are rated for non-resistive loads (ie. inductive loads) and there is no mechanical element to arc and fail.
Another groovy episode. I love your Day In The Life episodes. Simple, flowing, to the point. Plus flying rays, a cute dog and yummy cook with friends. What could be better. Stay safe and stay groovy.
That was a very nicely done video. Those Manta's were just amazing. I liked the underwater sequences too. Very laid back and "comfy" to watch. Thanks Grace and Bill.
How are you doing Health wise, Grace. I hope you are nearly 💯 %. Wishing you were across the Pacific; but know you and Bill will get there. A Delos reunion will be epic. Sierra will be happy to see you again. Safe sailing.
I am always so amazed at sailors mechanical acumen. I would be out there giving in to the elements. I am super thankful for you all sharing your journey with us. I listen to Tina often and the fact that the world has lost her but she has a lasting legacy of music just as you all are creating you legacy of digital content. Much love to the both of you!
I can understand how it would seem so long since you were here with your buddies. You two have been through so much in the past months! I have followed you all along and really appreciate all your challenges! But it is so great to see how far you have come and how much you have accomplished! Love you two and am rooting for your success and happiness every day! Love you both, Doc
hey calico i just what to say how much i love watching you guys so much and have been following y'all from the begining as i'am a disalbed 70 yr. old vet in houston tx. and would have love to live like y'all butt as i know my health want let that happen so i will always watch i wish i be a patron but my freinds i live on a fixed income so the best i can is watch and give thums up
I am glad your water maker is working. Ooh what a nice dinner. That water is so clear. So beautiful and the wildlife is amazing. Great having friends over as well. Love the vlog :)
The landscape is eternal, we are not. It always amazes me when I go back to places I have been to 30 years ago, see all the people changes, but the land is still the same. Stay safe, and have fun...
My hard guess on the jumping rays: the impact on the water cleans their (vulrnerable skin on the) belly from barnacle growth and other parasites. Loving the video once again!
That was so enjoyable to watch! Felt like I was right there with you! You captured the raw beauty of that place and the abundant wildlife perfectly! And so nice to see you sharing experiences with your buddy boat! Gorgeous episode! ❤️😊
The rays are getting rid of the parasites. Great video streaming of them. Had a marvellous experience of seeing a giant manta flying in the Atlantic many years ago
Remembering the endless boatyard work, the health issues and the unknown answers at the time! You Both deserve this Chill time. I love the back lighting you added inside the boat, it looks great. You have made her a nice home! I loved the video, the Manta's jumping was so cool and love your underwater filming as well! Great job you two. Taco Bowls looked great as well. Thank you for bringing us along! Stay safe, Fair winds and following seas my friends!
Great job diagnosing and fixing the water maker Bill. Grace maybe those Mantas jump to attract food since the Pelicans are almost as opportunistic as Sea Gulls always looking for the easy meal. Fried fish is number 1 having boat buddies over is best.
Another great video guys! One slight correction... The fish that BIll shot at and missed was not a hogfish. I'm pretty certain it was a large humphead parrot fish. Either way, both are great eating fish although I couldn't shoot a parrot fish because of the fond memories I have of them when I had my saltwater aquarium.
@CalicoSkiesSailing Me thinks if you google humphead parrot fish you'll find photos of the fish and it looks exactly like the one in your video, albeit with a bit smaller hump... "Mexican Hog Fish"? Is there such a thing? All good... I agree parrot fish are good for the reefs... Edited... A couple of reasons I'm sure it's a parrot fish is one, the shape of the mouth and two, the color. I googled "Mexican Hog Fish" and found numerous photos and none looked like the one in your video.. in fact, this it what was said about the color of the "Mexican Hog Fish"... "Females are usually reddish in color and tinged with yellow with two dark stripes. Dominant males are identified by the fleshy lumps on their heads, their coloration is grayish tinged with red and with a yellow bar near the mid section. The tips of all fins except the pectoral are long and filamentous."
I just realized that I missed this episode on Patreon last week.😃. What, am I getting old? ha. I love the way you opened this one with good mellow vibes. The Sea of Cortez continues to be a magical place for you guys. I can see why you love it. You've captured a real good vibe in this one, from the memories of last year to the jumping rays and dinner with friends. Nice job guys! I'll see you soon!!
Very desolate but intriguingly beautiful there. Amazing to be so remote, yet connected to the world (when you want to). Great diving shots. Donate for a Dream
Thankyou Grace and Bill for yet another wonderful video, Grace your editing skills are amazing and Bill you explain your projects well showing us how well thought out your boat world is. I love this series of videos because we too are in the sea of Cortez hope to be floating again in a month. 38 degrees in the cabin in Guaymas.
Wow with all the wildlife that anchorage is the sea equivalent to our back yard here in Western Pennsylvania where we routinely see all kinds of interesting animals.
Perfect length, just shy of thirty minutes! : - ) After watching, I would say this episode had a nice balance. Boat project, social time, animal(s) time, bad and good weather time and underwater time! : - ) BTW - In 30,000 years those rays will be able to sustain flight in the air just like they now fly through the water. (maybe) They are now doing try-outs for evolution! And with those thunder storms being around again at the end I was worried when, at 28:30, Bill was posing in the (soon to be) stormy night with one hand wrapped around a metal cable that connects to a very tall metal pole. 8 - \ Hahaha Perhaps he was there to "arrest" the lightening? 8 - (
Soooooo nice to see you Guys slipping into chill mode, Yea Bill stresses about the storms rolling in . If you drug anchor for 30 M you still would not hit any one.
Love watching your adventures. So glad you’re doing well. I enjoy you guys, because you keep it real. I stopped watching your buddies Sailing Delos, they got to arrogant for me! Thanks again... 🧡
Nice one. Love the visuals. Always a good idea to filter your diesel. You have no idea where it comes from any way especially in the more remote areas. Food looked real tasty. (Almost supper time in my part of the world so I am hungry LOL).
Took me a minute to finish this week's episode, I had to pause it half way through to catch the Delos vs Parlay race with the live chat and a full live chat following... Watching dolphins or whales breach, there's something about it that seems graceful, but those rays, they come out of the water looking good, then it looks a bit awkward when the belly flop back into the water, exciting to watch despite the awkward landing...
I am still sad you are no longer with Delos. All of you were like peas and carrots. What matters is you are healthy and able to do follow up on that right now. Are you planning on crossing next Spring?
I love when you take us under the water and see all the beautiful vibrant colors. Thank you for sharing with us. how did your appointment go with the Doctor?
Check the amp rating of the relay contacts. The motor running amps must not exceed the rated amps of the relays contact. You could also parallel up two norm open relay contacts so the relays contact amp rating is doubled.
Bill, Nice fix on the water maker. Having one is a game changer. Having solar to power the unit is really a game changer. I use to run the main engine 45 minutes a day, just for water. And another 45 minutes for everything else. Are you guys doing Annapolis this year.
Wonderful video, both above the water and below. So many memories flooded my mind as to my adventures in this part of Mexico, things I thought I forgot. Thanks so much you two. 😘
Possibly .. we want to. I have to have 2 small surgeries and we have a family member who needs surgery as well so it will come down to timing. As soon as we know we'll let you know!!
Wearing a bright white shirt is probably not conducive to getting close to the fish you want. Maybe that would include your shorts or swim trunks too. Stealth!! C'mon city boy take a lesson from us country boys. All you are seeing is friendly fish used to seeing divers. IMHO. Love the dog!!!
You don't live off grid. How many tomato plants do you have on our forecastle? How many bushels of corn do you grow on your back deck? Do you have and EPRB? Do you use GPS? You, and I, are both land, and grid, dependent. I dream of doing what you're doing. I'll be doing something similar to you when I get my boat ready to splash.
Your videos are just so peaceful in a chaotic world. I can just connect to nature without all of the noise. That fresh fish looked yummy😊. Boat Projects😮 never stop. The Anchorages are amazing. So what do you prefer Sea of Cortez, San Blas or that Frog Marina? Blessings to you both. Looking forward to your B.C. footage.
The common notion of off grid is being off public utilities - electricity, water, sewer, gas. Your notion of it including the internet is new one for me. Maybe you include phone signals too. Other interpretations pop up too. It's interesting to see how far some people take it.
Another awesome video! Thanks Bill & Grace! The mantas jumping were crazy - what a cool thing to see!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes aren’t they crazy animals!?
That water maker boost pump relay looks a little under-sized maybe?? Motors are inductive loads which means they are harder on the relay contacts than for example a solid-state relay. Every time the relay opens (shuts off) the inductive load will spike the voltage way up and cause an arc to form across the relay contacts. This is what burns them out. I did bump it up a bit when I replaced it. Think that may have been the issue
When your day consist of: A, make water and B, take a dive. You are having a quite chill day.. ❤ Love to both of you!
Grace, Love your videos! Appreciate how authentic you are. What an awesome anchorage, great wildlife captures. Thanks for sharing with us!!
Another groovy episode. I love your Day In The Life episodes. Simple, flowing, to the point. Plus flying rays, a cute dog and yummy cook with friends. What could be better. Stay safe and stay groovy.
You guys are only 1 of 2 American channels that I watch!!! Much ❤ from Pender Harbour BC. 😎👍🇨🇦
💓💓💓 Thank u for being here!
Sure do miss the good ol' adult summer camp days. 😘
💓💓💓💓
Grace nice to see you both back in the water and you filming, so that you could prepare dinner.
Such a beautiful, peaceful, quiet environ, until that weather rolls in😅. So nice to see you relaxing in mind and body
I just got a total "peace" vibe from this vid. Yeah...I know there were water issues, and a storm. But you guys are at peace. Thank you for sharing!
🤗
That was a very nicely done video. Those Manta's were just amazing. I liked the underwater sequences too. Very laid back and "comfy" to watch. Thanks Grace and Bill.

Thank you Dennis. I am feeling much better, every day a little more healing. We will get there some day. In the interm we do video chats!!

Aw thank u so much!!!! 💓💓💓 So happy you're enjoying the videos. Thank you for following our journey!🤗
Your excellent adventure continues. I'm always amazed how desolate that region looks. Keep them coming, Cheers.
today I was not feeling well at all. After watching your show today I feel better. Thanks for your hard work.
Sooo happy to hear it was uplifting for u!!! Hugs 🤗

Thanks so much!
Peaceful anchorage’s beautiful sights. 👍🏝️⛵️
@Calico Skies Sailing was very happy to see this after the hurricane that hit there. Was worried.
This was beautiful! We love the easy going, relaxed way of being in your videos since getting back on the water. Namaste friends.
The landscape is eternal, we are not. It always amazes me when I go back to places I have been to 30 years ago, see all the people changes, but the land is still the same. Stay safe, and have fun...

So happy u enjoyed this one Marisa! 🥰
The video of the breaching mobula rays was so cool. I’ve never seen that before and was a definite highlight of this video for me!
Glad you enjoyed it! It was really cool!
The rays are getting rid of the parasites. Great video streaming of them. Had a marvellous experience of seeing a giant manta flying in the Atlantic many years ago

Do we get to see the 2nd night of storms in the next video? :)
Thanks! Yup!
Awesome video guys...great to see you cruising again❤
Some awesome wildlife footage! You guys seem to be back in groove. So happy for you, and keep the great vids coming!

Soooooo nice to see you Guys slipping into chill mode, Yea Bill stresses about the storms rolling in . If you drug anchor for 30 M you still would not hit any one.
Great video!! Thanks for allowing us to go on the journey with you!
Biobor JF is your friend. Nice video as usual.
I’ve only boated in the Sea of Cortez a few times and never seen mobula rays so I really enjoyed your video of them. They’re amazing animals.
Mantas made me yearn to go back to sailing .... thanks for sharing...:)
Our pleasure!
Love watching your adventures. So glad you’re doing well. I enjoy you guys, because you keep it real. I stopped watching your buddies Sailing Delos, they got to arrogant for me!

Such a calm video. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You guys did great on this vid. Awesome flow to it
Another fantastic video. Keep up the great work, looking forward to the next episode.
Thank u Peter!
So much nature. Can’t wait. Curious if your boat buddies like the Pudgy dinghy?
Yea they really like it, it is a compromise like all things boat. They can't plane off but it doubles as a life boat
Saludos

I am still sad you are no longer with Delos. All of you were like peas and carrots. What matters is you are healthy and able to do follow up on that right now.
Are you planning on crossing next Spring?
We are aiming to cross yes, lots of ducks to get in a row but we hope we can join our friendss out that way
so nice and entertaining.... thank you all for sharing with us
Love your show....
Another great video guy's Thanks' for sharing

I think you are right about that, new relay with higher rating is on order
😃👍👍👍❤ Grace looked like the fried fish you made was very tasty. Who is the better jumper rays or dog?
hahaha maybe the rays! lol
Love the videos

Are you guys doing Annapolis this year.
Yes its been a game changer being able to make water from the sun, really has cut down our generator time except for running the air con 😎
Awesome
What ever happened to red skies at night sailors delight? Great vid guys.
😂
Did not know rays leap out of the water!
me neither!!!!
I’d imagine not many places to top up gasoline for the dinghy.

Have y'all sent Bill in for some preventative maintenance ?
😂
And now I'll be having a taco bowl for lunch.
yum! 😋
Wonderful video, both above the water and below. So many memories flooded my mind as to my adventures in this part of Mexico, things I thought I forgot. Thanks so much you two. 😘
👍👍👍
What'd you call them? Modular Rays? I know why they do that, I think. As they jump they're thinking; look I'm a bird. I can fly!! Whee !!!
"Mobula" rays, devil fish or devil ray. /Mobula/ is the scientific name of the genus
Grace, does "Small World" have a You Tube channel? I don't seem to find it on a search.
They don't :)
Are you guys going to the south Pacific soon?
Possibly .. we want to. I have to have 2 small surgeries and we have a family member who needs surgery as well so it will come down to timing. As soon as we know we'll let you know!!
Im sure it will come in good time , keep up the great videos and i wish both nothing but good health and success. Buen Camino
Great video Bill and Grace. The rays breaching was so cool. I think they breach cause it's fun. Stay safe and well. Have fun.
Should just put a full time camera in the front of the boat when u guys r sailing r hoping

Youre not wrong. Maybe it wasnt the right choice of words. Hope you get there some day! Thnx for following our journey :)
What brand are the solar panel
Our panels are SunPowered Yachts, we have affiliate links in our description :)
Love Bill’s humor and comment, nothing fix a problem like throwing a little money at it.
Excellent video.
Looking forward to your B.C. footage.
This is such happy feedback, so glad to hear it. We filmed SO much! Cant wait to share! HUGS 💓
100% ?
Wow 40 knot’s overnight, no thanks
100% off grid? BS. you are very plugged into a grid of weather, navagation, and communications information. .
The common notion of off grid is being off public utilities - electricity, water, sewer, gas. Your notion of it including the internet is new one for me. Maybe you include phone signals too. Other interpretations pop up too. It's interesting to see how far some people take it.
more of a figure of speech
