      Heck ya man, Stoked to hear it! Seriously such a cool hobby to get into for surfers, its just so neat to design your board, obsess over all the details and slowly bring your dream to life, then then actually get to surf it. Glad I could help out, trying to share info and make it more accessible for others getting into it. Yep you just need to use water based acrylic paint, literally just paint it on the foam and squeegee away all the excess🙌🙌

      Hey good comment Jaco, I generally copied the basic design behind the album sunstone, being a fish with a step down deck and then the tucked tail. Going past that there are a hundred small very important nuances that are likely very different. Depending on the combination and characteristics of small nuances a board will ride hugely different. When I shape, glass, and sand a board I try to design in the ideal combo of small tweaks but I’d imagine albums has a different combo. This board turned out super fun but is definitely not an exact match to the sun stone

    How do you figure out fin placement (esp without one of them fancy fin measuring sheets)? Made a 6'5" rounded pin that I'd like to make a twin fin. Keep up the good work!

      Yassss! Huge congrats, that’s a big accomplishment, pretty big milestone really, the first is always the hardest! Building a generation of garage shapers! Happy I could pass on some tips! You don’t explicitly need a shapers square/fin jig, it is way easier I’ll say though. You just need a measuring Triangle and carefully measure the placements and tow in from the rail, I go a little more in depth on this vid Futures Fin Box Kit

      Hey absolutely! She is a really fun board, I’ve made a handful of these now and absolutely love them! 5’4 x 19 3/4 x 2 3/4. I used and recommend using a US BLANKS 2lb density 5’10 RP blank. I really like the nose and tail rocker on this blank. You can always adjust the nose and tail rocker on any blank, but I like this blank for this board because the stick rocker is just what I want. I balanced the cut and took 3 inches off the nose and 3 off the tail of the blank then left the rocker as-is. Hope this helps!

      Thanks man, we spend so much of our lives stressing out in school and work, it’s just so fun to relax and do something so fun, hard not to be happy when board building! What planer do you have?! I’m actually designing adapters for most of the common surf planets out there, doing material testing now to find the strongest solution, might need to upgrade to a fancy form labs printer or get into injection molding!

    Hi, great job, looks class. Do you have to do a cut lap when glassing over a painted blank?? I’ve only done it for a few resin tints? I’m super interested in painting the blank and was hoping I wouldn’t have to do a cut lap. Cheers bud. 👍

      Hey thanks Tom, stoked to hear having fun board building! Nope your good, no need to do a precise cutlap over a painted blank👍. Your right, you only really have to do it for resin tints but still like to do it sometimes just to keep things extra crisp although unnecessary

    How much were the total costs in materials to make this board? Maybe too many colors, less is better sometimes, like the orange with the blue. Edit: after seeing the finish product it looks really good.

    • @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop
      @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop  Год назад +1

      $100 for the blank, about $250 total for glassing, $350 total, and I’m sure big companies are getting materials cheaper! I will say a lot of the cost comes in the skilled labor and then retail markups! Pretty fun experimenting with colors right?! Every board is sort of a brand new canvas to try something new!
