- One day I randomly decided to try to make my own Surfboard after seeing my friend Josh do the same thing out of polystyrene boxes! Pretty much made this board out of stuff we found at local stores (apart from the leash plug, that was from a surf shop)
Material List:
8 foot Polystyrene Sheets ( I got 2, 20mm and one 15mm)
Multi Purpose Glue
8 foot wooded post
Fiberglass cloth from the local boat store
Resin from the local boat store
Chopping board for fins
(Think thats pretty much it, if i missed anything feel free to ask about it in the comments)
Super fun project! I would recommend doing something like this if you guys are looking for something to do! Took me and my dad around 3 weeks to fully complete the board (on and off) pretty much just worked on it in our spare time!
Once we finished the board the only thing left to do was ride it! Took it down to Mount Maunganui to Surf with the homies Josh and Ben! Josh absolutely ripped on it! as for me... I still need to get better at surfing hahahah!

That's awesome. I finished making my 4th board in 18 months. Each board has worked out. All of them poxy. Last one 5.5" carbon rails. My take on a Hypto n monsat 6.
I've surfed it from knee high to Double over head. What fun to Bragg & say to the guys in the water "I made this"

Awesome! I love the chilled vibes. I’m thinking a possibility to get the rocker curve would be to cut it with a hot wire, following wooden jigs either side. Just and idea!

Next time try and buy dense foam as it will float better I remember starting to surf the old single fin foam boards
guys this is perfect, i invite you to galle where there are lots of enthusiast for surfing in dewata beach
Now you can buy the polystyren already shaped and with the wood plank in the middle and it's not very expensive.. I've done mine with someone show me. You can already put gouache or POSCA before the last slice of resine (don't forgot to sand down before each slice of fiberglass)and you can make the fins with wood (but that need a slice of resine on it) . 😎🏄

what are surfboards usually made out of ?
Latif polyester or eps
Very common. It's called Epoxy surfboards. EPS foam and epoxy resin. You can basically make a surfboard out of any core that has buoyancy.
