This was his only big, free smile, but he did several times smile more subtly, such as at Lizzie when she was standing by his sister at the piano after she'd protected her when Bingly's nasty sisters brought up Mr. Wickham.
“My child, do not give me the grief of seeing you unable to respect your partner in life” Mr. Bennett’s talk with Lizzie stuck with me for years and I still take it to heart. When I find my Mr. Darcy, I will introduce him as not my husband, but as “My partner in life and best friend”
Me too. Especially that the family faced financial difficulty, the father still insist to not have the "grief" of seeing the daughter unable to respect the husband (marry for money).
I loved that line, especially because he was poor and didn’t’t have that many options. If Lizzie were to never marry, she would have to teach or go to a workhouse or live with the Bingleys. The common sense route would be to marry her off, worthy or otherwise. Mr. Bennett was determined to keep his favorite daughter happy.
@@kaylajames9334 Also in the book, Lizzie observes with sadness the situation between her parents, knowing that they don't love each other anymore. I think her father didn't want to put her in the same situation as she was.
@@kaylajames9334 Yes. Poor Mary and Kitty get overlooked. Elizabeth is clearly Mr. Bennett's favorite daughter, while Jane and Lydia seem to be Mrs. Bennett's favorites.

@@Johnnybgood76 although it’s not described directly in the book, they DO get married on the same day so it’s very likely to have happened. Note the words “the day” singular, confirming that they were both married on the same day. “Happy for all her maternal feelings was the day on which Mrs. Bennet got rid of her two most deserving daughters.”

Lizzie's defense of her love of Darcy to her father moved me to tears. I've never read the book or seen this series- only memes, clips and literary analysis videos on RUclips, so this was my first time hearing her speech. You can just feel how in love she is. Also the wedding was done beautifully - you can see Mr. Bennet's regret over entering marriage "lightly, wontonly", Mary's desire to marry "reverently", Kitty reflecting on marrying "discreetly" unlike Lydia... then we get to Charlotte Lucas considering the causes for which her matrimony took place. Lady Catherine sitting in silent rage with her child who should have been marrying Darcy if she had her way. The Gardiners are the only ones in the church who are already married and happy it seems. And of course the "sin and fornication" line cutting to Lydia and Wickham makes me snicker a bit.
What I love most about that scene is the care and concern Mr. Bennet has over making sure his favourite daughter isn't unhappy like he was. And the connection he and Lizzie have to each other is so strong he doesn't want her to go, but he knows it's time. Especially after she says: "I didn't always love him. But I love him now so very dearly." If you can get this series, it's well worth the time to buy and watch.
But at least Lydia was married eventually and had more protection than if they hadn’t been discovered, who knows what Wickham would’ve done if he wasn’t obligated to be faithful. Not ideal but better.

I love the scene between Lizzy and her father. Extremely moving! Especially when he understands how happily in love she is and he has to let her go. And the weding was beautiful and so was the kiss at the end.
I liked the speech that the Holy gives during the wedding. It is a real humble oration of how special marriage can be when it is clean and done proper.
Mr Darcy is the ultimate romantic hero and Colin Firth is first class in the role. Every girl should have a Mr Darcy in her life. I just hope mine is yet to come. Preferably with Colin Firth in the role. No other man comes a close second.
Imagine Mrs Bennet at having three daughters married off within the year and two to such wealthy men. Imagine how she's strut around the village talking about her son's-in-law and how she'd politely sneer at all the other mothers
I imagine how relieved she must feel. She went from thinking that she and her daughters would be penniless if Mr. Bennet were to die to one daughter being married just that, one daughter being married to a rich man and one daughter being married to a very rich man. Now if Mr. Bennet were to die both she and the two remaining daughters would be fine. Also Kitty was already sent to live with the Bingleys and kept away from Lydia and was being educated on being a proper lady and was moving in circles prevviously closed to her. Mary went from being the most plain of the 5 sisters to a quite agreeable girl with wealthy relatives. Remember, she was never ugly or even "just ok" it was just the comparison with her sisters that made her look bad. But now she's the only one left at home. I dare say Mrs. Bennet was very relieved.
More to the point, she will have fewer bouts of hysterics as much of her anxiety is now relieved. Jane and Lizzy have wealthy husbands who can secure their places among the upper class. Wickham is perennially poor, but Mrs. Bennet likes him anyway (she's not the most rational sort). Mary and Kitty are still in their late-teens, and so they have some years to find husbands before they are considered "old maids". According to what Austen used to tell her family, Mary and Kitty would eventually find respectable, albeit not rich, husbands. One would imagine that Mrs. Bennet's company would become more endurable now that she no longer need dwell on worries about the future. Well, except for in regards to Lydia. Wickham strikes me as a guaranteed adulterer and the novel is clear that the affection leaves their marriage rather quickly. I would expect that Wickham would come to hate Lydia, since his marriage to her prevents him from pursuing his original goal of marrying an heiress. But, perhaps if Lydia is lucky, Wickham, now in the Regulars, will get killed in the last battles of the Napoleonic Wars. Thus giving her the option of trying to marry better the second time.

While researching our family ancestry some years ago, our son came across the birth certificate of his great, great, great, great grandmother - "begotten in fornication" was part of the entry! LOL!
Honestly, they all look so different. Bingley is staring with elated, glazed eyes at the vicar, Jane is quiet and simple, without petals on her flowers and a much larger cross round her neck than Elizabeth's, if you didn't know Darcy better you'd assume he's very grumpy and Lizzie makes such a sweet little bride.
I still find it interesting that in this wonderful adaptation, until Lizzy and Jane's double wedding, the only happily married couple we got a good look at are Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner. I love the obvious happiness of their marriage.
This is the version I can watch over and over again without ever getting tired. And am I the only one to regularly read the awww-moments of the novel just to have my Darcy fix? And after this adaptation it's Colin's face I see when I do, he's exactly how I imagined the character to be.
I was a little disappointed they didn't show the reaction of Lizzy's mother when she hears that her daughter will marry Darcy. It was very funny in the book! At least they did it in the 1940's version. Otherwise, I loved that mini-serie! Bingley's sister at the end..Take that!
I was literally just thinking yesterday how awful of them to deprive us of Alison Steadman playing that scene. It would have been hilarious. But then there are lots of moments they left out from the book that still puzzle me.
I love this part of the movie! The only thing that I would have LOVED to see in this movie was that in the book Darcy asks her dads permission and then returns to Elizabeth and "Mr. Darcy appeared again, when, looking at him, she was a little relieved by his smile. In a few minutes he aproached the table wher she was sitting with Kitty; and while pretending to admire her work, said in a whisper'go to your father, he wants you in the library''
I finished watching this for the nth time and this is the first time that I cried at the end.. when they are walking from the carriage and Darcy was smiling, I am like Mrs. Benneth, crying with joy and so proud of them, they got their happy ending after many detours.. well deserved.l
I love the way the father cared for the daughter to not disrespect a man for only marrying for his status and money, despite the fact the family is short of money.
Not short on money just not stupid wealthy like Bingley or anywhere near Darcy. The Benets are equivalent to being worth about 100 million dollars, Bingley almost a billion, Darcy 30-40 billion if you were to put it in modern amounts.
This Pride and Prejudice is my favorite! In my opinion, Collin Firth is the best Mr Darcy. He is so handsome and sweet. These two have great chemistry that makes this adaptation adorable!!!😍😍😍💕💕💕💒💒💒💒
I couldn't get over the wonderful father that Mr Bennet is without his influence Lizzy wouldn't have been so sensible And him understanding Lizzy should be marrying her superior....,!
He is actually a very careless father to the rest of his daughters and a bad husband too. Austen makes it very clear in her story. This version of Mr Bennett is very soft in my opinion, not true to the book. Mr Bennett in the 1980's version is much more accurate.
Soledad Ferrer, he also married his wife for poor reasons (she was beautiful and lively when young I recall). I think it’s alluded here when the camera cuts to Mr and Mrs Bennet when the priest is telling that you should not enter marriage too lightly.
When Elizabeth sat there in front of her skeptic father, and explained how she loved Mr. Darcy, a strong flush of imagery came before me. It was the image of Jane Austen, the author of Pride & Prejudice. In life, she might not have gotten her Mr. Darcy, but in her work, she did. And we are ALL grateful for it. I wish it was Called Elizabeth Bennett though, instead of P & P. I do feel this is Lizzy's story, & therefore Jane Austen wishes & Hopes!
A case of whiplash for sure, the look on her face! I hope she didn't sustain any neck injuries from that scene. It was truly a beautiful double wedding & both couples looked radient!!
This mini series of pride and prejudice made me feel open minded because of the way the talk which has confidence and generosity shows how strong love was.
The only glitch in this BBC version is that, they have skipped the rapture of Mrs Bennett on Elizabeth telling her about her engagement with Mr Darcy. That itself is an important event.
What would of been awesome for the 25th anniversary of this version: a well-written sequel of the Darcy’s and how their married life turned over the decades: debating their children’s potential suitors, battling social drama all while doing all they can to take their love into the next phase of life. 🥰🥰🥰 Good god that would of been wonderful to watch, especially with the old cast returning to the roles. Let’s hope they do something after COVID passes☺️
I'm from Colombia, so sorry for my english. I love this version, and I think that it is better than the movie. The scenes are more sincere and the feelings are perceived more intense.
Oh my god the sequence of faces at 1:27 Bingley, his VERY unhappy sister, and Jane Colonel Fitzwilliam, envying Darcy (by birth he's not free nor wealthy enough to marry for love like this, but definitely favored Lizzy and would have pursued her if he had the choice) And then Mr. Collins GLARING at Lizzy for marrying so much higher than he could ever offer
Постановка фильмв 1995 г наиболее близка зрителю.От ношение мужчин и женщин достоверна тому времени.Лучшей постановки уже не будет.Браво режиссеру и сценаристам..
i always wished the book showed more scenes between her and Darcy. If I use the word intimate, I don't mean sex, I mean scenes with just the two of them talking or dancing or anything with just the two of them getting to know each other. I am not a fan of the 2005 movie, but there are two scenes at the end that I would have loved to have seen in the book AND in this BBC show. The one in the meadow, where Darcy and Elizabeth meet in the morning and the scene in the american version right at the end where the two of them are near the fountains. They are married at this point, and the dialogue is a bit cheesy but I'll take anything I can get. The book does speak generally about after their marriage and their life at Pemberley, but it's short and i always want more. There was a 3 episode series on the book Death Comes To Pemberley, by PD James. It is on RUclips, but I find I don't really like the actress who plays Elizabeth nor am I too crazy about the actor who plays Darcy. I was disappointed by the book; I've read most of what the late PD James wrote and I didn't think it was up to her standards. JMHO. Check it out for yourself.
I love this movie, ive seen it in many forms, indian, greek, southwest asian, english and its still beautiful . Its beautiful writing about love and passion building between 2 people fated for each other. And his willingness to be reflective and grow , while ending up with the women he loves. He knew exactly what to do to win her favor, in the most intimate way......family love❤
@@julieletford5695 In those days, an ugly fellow as a husband was better than being a poor woman with no financial support unless she was a governess or maid. Women didn’t have many options in those days.
I liked both versions. The BBC version is a lot closer to the book, and therefore the better if you want to know the real story and the depth of the connection between Elizabeth and Darcy. How they changed for one another, learning that pride would be their downfall. And finally found their way to each other. The 2005 version was nice to watch, full of romance. But it was just a movie. Like every movie now, it was cut up and lacking depth. It's sweet, and had lovely music, and great actors.
Loved the BBC version shown here. Just bought it on Amazon Prime. I watched this, and had no inclination to read the book. Read Persuasion in a college class, and then watched that. Jane Austen was a brilliant writer.
I've seen all the Austen adaptations and all versions of P&P from the one in 1940, 1979 and 2005 and the modern one. I also saw Bride and Prejudice. I've enjoyed them all in different ways. This version is absolutely my favourite. It is so close to what I imagined when I read the book. Colin Firth and Jennifer Elhe are my Darcy and Elizabeth. When I write a fan fiction it's their faces that I see.
I'm from France. I've red the book in french at first and then in english. I saw all the BBC versions, the version with Keira, the bollywod and also the american one from the 50ties. I stil find that this version is the one which gets closer to the book.
I realise it is only a small part, but Sam Beazley as the vicar gives it some gusto! Sad that I've just found out that Beazley died in 2017. A great performance here!

Charlottes side-eye at her husband ... poor Charlotte !!! Love how pissed Caroline Bingley and Lady Catherine are as well 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Darcy marrying Elizabeth is the biggest screw you to Lady Catherine!
Yo pensé lo mismo , es verdad 😊
Darcy be like "I've been waiting for this kiss for a long time so I'm gonna make it a good one." First class up until the very end😄😄😄
Mr. Darcy has that smile every man wants to carry. I told you world us men deserve happiness and good feelings.
I love this! This is pretty much the only scene where Mr. Darcy is really smiling...awww he's so happy:-)
I couldn't get over the wonderful father that Mr Bennet is without his influence Lizzy wouldn't have been so sensible
And him understanding Lizzy should be marrying her superior....,!
To join together..this man and this woman...
...and this man and this woman
:DD
Lizzie was not ready for that horse pull...
Nancy Estrada OMG I was always thinking the same thing
I was watching at a faster than normal speed so it looked like she got *flung* back
😂😂
A case of whiplash for sure, the look on her face! I hope she didn't sustain any neck injuries from that scene.
It was truly a beautiful double wedding & both couples looked radient!!
Maybe it's because Lizzy and Darcy's carriage had four horses, while Jane and Bingley's only two.
Just seeing the love and pure happiness from Jane and Mr Bingley at 3.20 just fills me up every time. I hope to find that one day.
This mini series of pride and prejudice made me feel open minded because of the way the talk which has confidence and generosity shows how strong love was.
I taped the series and watched it so many times I wore it out! Was lucky enough to find it on a DVD set a few years later.Wonderful!
snow, white horses, net veils, dresses, and lizzie+mr darcy, jane+bingley... so magical its giving me joyous shivers!
The only glitch in this BBC version is that, they have skipped the rapture of Mrs Bennett on Elizabeth telling her about her engagement with Mr Darcy. That itself is an important event.
The fact that the 4 all look SO HAPPY
they look so cute when they married :)
the matching heights!
What would of been awesome for the 25th anniversary of this version: a well-written sequel of the Darcy’s and how their married life turned over the decades: debating their children’s potential suitors, battling social drama all while doing all they can to take their love into the next phase of life. 🥰🥰🥰
Good god that would of been wonderful to watch, especially with the old cast returning to the roles. Let’s hope they do something after COVID passes☺️
Wow I would love that.I prefer Kiera Knightly version as Lizzie.
The smile and the kiss we all have been waiting for....😍😍
I'm from Colombia, so sorry for my english. I love this version, and I think that it is better than the movie. The scenes are more sincere and the feelings are perceived more intense.
Colin Firth is sooo handsome, and is perfect or this role
This is the best version in my opinion. Thank you for sharing. 😄👍
Absolutely the best!
So true.
Without a doubt!
Such a lovely ending. This version of Pride and Prejudice was perfect.
Oh my god the sequence of faces at 1:27
Bingley, his VERY unhappy sister, and Jane
Colonel Fitzwilliam, envying Darcy (by birth he's not free nor wealthy enough to marry for love like this, but definitely favored Lizzy and would have pursued her if he had the choice)
And then Mr. Collins GLARING at Lizzy for marrying so much higher than he could ever offer
Jane is so beautiful, she looks like a portrait
She looks like Botticelli's Venus.
Why can't I be Elizabeth? I fell in love with Mr. Darcy! and this wedding brings me to tears every time and when Mr. Darcy smiles! :") I love it!
Bingley's face while in the church hahahaha
😂😂
He was over the moon
You mean Bingley's face ANY time!😁
This version is more true to the book, I do love the 05 version but this is truly what Austen meant it to be.
The BEST Pride and Prejudice version 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Greatest Jane Austen screen adaptation of all time.
The part with Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy kissing is what is I was waiting for through the entire series
"He does not have any improper pride"..says it all about Darcy. Love him.
Even the way they act it was so beautiful
Great success, always leave them wanting more. Love it when Colin smiles with his eyes, and to be starred at so longingly.
Постановка фильмв 1995 г наиболее близка зрителю.От ношение мужчин и женщин достоверна тому времени.Лучшей постановки уже не будет.Браво режиссеру и сценаристам..
That one smile was worth the wait.
Would be nice if they showed her moving into Pemberly
i always wished the book showed more scenes between her and Darcy.
JMHO. Check it out for yourself.
rcaladlr Death Comes To Pemberly was quite good! It's on Netflix!
The best ending, my favorite movie.
That look Charlotte gave to Mr. Collins in church is priceless!
Ugh. He's a homely fellow.
@@julieletford5695 In those days, an ugly fellow as a husband was better than being a poor woman with no financial support unless she was a governess or maid. Women didn’t have many options in those days.
all the more fortunate that he spends so much time in the reading room and in the garden at home
2:33
Darcy's mind : the happiest day of my life.
Loved the BBC version shown here. Just bought it on Amazon Prime. I watched this, and had no inclination to read the book. Read Persuasion in a college class, and then watched that. Jane Austen was a brilliant writer.
This is the best version of pride and prejudice in my opinion
Charlotte side-eyeing Mr Collins at 2:12
I've seen all the Austen adaptations and all versions of P&P from the one in 1940, 1979 and 2005 and the modern one.
I thought bride and prejudice particularly good despite the songs and things
The kiss. ❤️
Шикарная версия! Мой любимый фильм! Смотрю по несколько раз в году🤩🤩🤩
I'm from France. I've red the book in french at first and then in english. I saw all the BBC versions, the version with Keira, the bollywod and also the american one from the 50ties. I stil find that this version is the one which gets closer to the book.
Among the best wedding scenes I have ever watched :-D
I'll second that!
I love how Lizzy signals first for a kiss.
3:22 Comme ils sont beaux!!!
I thought Eliza was pretty in this version.
Yes I prefer this version than the one with Keira Knightly in.
@Krish M Yes definitely, and considering the time period, we should not be worrying about things like that.
Harshcore811 I was baffled at how completely different she looked irl
My favorite of Jane Austin's stories.
I realise it is only a small part, but Sam Beazley as the vicar gives it some gusto! Sad that I've just found out that Beazley died in 2017. A great performance here!
Dear Colin You are the great Actor. Beautiful final !!!
Очень нравится фильм"гордость и предубеждение".В русском переводе,смотрю его очень часто для настроения,игра артистов чудесная .
Чудесный папа)он так рад, что его девочки вышли замуж по-любви.Тетушка и дяда прекрасны❤
Best Pride and Prejudice!❤️👏👏👏
The Perfect Kiss At The End!
I like Mr. Bennet in this version so much better, he is so much more like in the book. And this ending is soooo fantastic!!! :D :D
Just finished watching 6 episodes of P& P aired in my country during lockdown 😎 Love it…👍👍👍
