Wall Stretcher JPSC not exactly... he had not really autopilot as it is understood today. The only thing he could do was to maintain the attitude of the flight. For example: u cant turn the HDG knob to turn the plane, but u can switch a button in the right moment of bank for mantein this grade of bank turn. Same thing for altitude, u cant insert a flight level value, u can just switch the button in the right moment of pitch (up or down) for mantein this attitude of flight

It was long over due since the Phantom ,F4 didn't cut the mustard. I started seeing these very fast and maneverable . I was n the Marines 71 saw these works of art showing up . There are a lot of F-14s on display around the country. Most of them are on display outside of an aviation museums or at the main entrance of military installations. There are a few F14s that are inside museums and out of the elements. I'm not sure how long an aircraft can last outside in the elements just sitting there. But at least the F14s that are inside will be okay. it would of been nice if the government or a private company kept a couple of them in flying condition. to do demo flights at air shows that'd be cool to see one flying.

I agree. I think it is also bullshit how the F-14 is being replaced by obsolete jets like the Super Hornet, when the F-14 could have been given a modernization upgrade and would be cheaper and better than the F/A-18.

I was on, the last cruise of the f14. duck under the wings on your way to chow, every day. 64 ft of combat porn. Whats even better, is tying yourself to the railing on the port side slq 32 platform, at the end of cats 3 and 4... it drops with both engines literally in your face.... good times

If the F-15 with some upgrades can be extended past 2020, the F-14 especially the D variant could easily have been. It was all about Bush politics and Dick Cheney wanting to destroy all F-14s in order to keep parts from getting into Iran's hands for its F-14s as Iran had tried to smuggle F-14 parts from Fort Lauderdale.

Standing on the deck waiting on traps.
    "Here comes a 'Cat."
    We watch it fly by.
We wait a second and we hear the *BOOM* and the engines roaring with a nice tongue of flame hanging out the tailpipes.
    "Show offs."
