ADHD Test for Children | Does my child have ADHD?

- Опубликовано: 17 май 2024
- If you want to know how to test for ADHD for yourself or your child, you MUST watch this video.
We'll cover how to get an ADHD self assessment or an assessment for your child, what ADHD screening tools people use, and who can diagnose ADHD.
We also cover what ADHD means, what ADHD stands for, and what ADHD looks like as well as common ADHD symptoms.
It's very important to understand ADHD who makes the diagnosis and why you should not take ADHD self tests.
For those of you who don’t know, ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, which is actually a misleading name because:
- you don’t have to be hyperactive to have it
- and people with ADHD don’t have an attention deficit, it’s just that regulating their attention is difficult, which can either make it hard for them to focus on one thing or can make them hyperfocused on one thing
What does ADHD mean?
ADHD is a medical condition, more specifically a neurodevelopmental disorder.
It is NOT a myth or made-up excuse by parents of “naughty” kids. If you’ve ever had to deal with this, let me know what happened in the comments below!
A person with ADHD has visible differences in brain development and brain activity that affect their attention, emotional regulation, and self-control.
Watch the full video to understand more about what ADHD is, how to take an ADHD test, and how to get your child tested for ADHD.

Back in kindergarten, I was kicking over things and our teacher had to move the other kids out of the room because they thought I was going to hurt someone. I have been experiencing symptoms of adhd since I was young and it is really uncomfortable being hyper, especially being overweight.
I also got detention twice this school year because I procrastinated A LOT and back when I was younger, my mom gave me spankings because of how I misbehaved at school, and I would hide from my mom so she wouldn’t be able to find me and I felt like I couldn’t control when I did these things I just felt frustrated and energized enough to do it.

Me: watching this, zoning out
My symptoms:
Disorganized- I can’t keep track of ANYTHING a month will pass and my school folder/binder has so much stuff that it’s almost breaking, there’s wrappers and trash in my backpack. I always feel like something is dirty/messy but I can’t clean it cause I get sidetracked
Short attention span- my mom gets frustrated with me cause I can’t hear what she’s saying cause I’m paying attention to something else, I don’t know how I get good grades, I can’t pay attention to save my life, my mind is always on things that I’m interested in. And never on the things that I’m doing
Fidgeting- I am moving 24/7 unless I’m REALLY interested in what I’m doing, it’s all finger tapping, foot tapping, hand flapping, anything but staying still, I have repetitive things that I do over and over and over again
Special interests- I’ve heard somewhere that people with ADD, ADHD, and on the Autistic spectrum have special interests, for me it’s my favorite show, art, rodents, and acting/music, anything other then those things is just uninteresting to me.
Emotional outbursts- my emotions change rapidly, I’m happy for a minute and then the next I’m worried, or I get distracted, I’m fine for a day and then suddenly I feel really sad.
I have all of these on a daily basis
On the special interests- I really like literature ( mostly fantasy and historical fiction ) and Greece mythology

I was diagnossed with ADHD as a child. My parents just carried on as if I was a naughty child. Every adult who surrounded me as a child thought I was I naughty child and treated me with disdain. All of them believed all I needed was a firm hand and stronger punishments. As an adult I've cut most of my aunts and uncles out of my life completely.
I always got punished for my sudden feelings of anger and amount of energy when I do it. I am not diagnosed, but I have most of the symptoms of adhd. (I am not self diagnosed)
That is so heartbreaking. I am curious, what could your parents have done that would have helped you? My daughter is type 3 and I feel so defeated as a parent because I dont know how to help her. My daughter is in 3rd grade and she still struggles to add/subtract, write sentences as well as has a speech delay. She also has difficulty making friends because she comes off as "weird" to other kids. I just want to protect her but I know she needs to be able to interact socially. I know children with ADHD are not naughty - they are sweet children with a lot of life and have amazing imaginations and creativity! My daughter is one of the sweetest and most caring little girl and I dont want her to grow up feeling like no one likes her..that is so terrible and Im so sorry that you were treated like a naughty child.

I teach pre-k. It's unbelievable how many parents think their child has add/adhd. Most of the time the child is going through a phase where they are seeking independence or maybe being strong willed. Lots of times the parents don't seem to understand that their child isn't going to just naturally behave or not need to be reprimanded more than once for something. It's a work in progress.

I’m constantly fidgeting and getting distracted and I’m always fiding a way to move my body not being able to just sit. Thank you for testing me🖤
Our son has ADHD, we cant take him out to eat and grocery shopping is a nightmare lol. We have to hold his hand around streets anywhere near a street, pretty much everywhere. We look for parks with fencing or a hiking parks with trails. He likes to say hi to every person he sees which is so cute and most of the time people respond with a smile and a hello. Sometimes not lol. He does enjoy rough housing (hitting, jumping/rolling on people, ramming his head into them, etc 🤦🏻♀️😂)and once he's in flo its difficult getting him to settle down. I'm a fairly new mom and in all my years of taking care of kids I've never seen a child with as much energy as ours. Thank you for this video I'm still fairly new to all this and I appreciate any info I can find!
That is my son as well.

@@doyouhearthepeoplesing2 Oh yes, also its all about the technique. I have a whole system down for everywhere and everything. Not that things always run smoothly lord knows lol but I finally figured out how to get around some things. No meds at this point and I'm hoping to avoid them. Not that I'm against it bc I know its necessary and beneficial to them, but I know with medication its tricky business and its all about finding what works for that individual. So for now I'm just going to do and try everything I can. Like now when we go to the grocery store first thing I do is tell him what is going on and what I expect from him. I constantly engage with him in the store, pointing at things and asking him questions about them. I'll let him help put things in, let him pick out a special food so he's less likely to just pick up random things. I always praise him for all his help, he loves that stuff. But yea lol he's just an all around great kid. Its sucks we live in a world that forces people to believe they have to conform to a "normal" that dosen't even exist.

My son has shown signs of ADHD since his toddler years. I tried and tried to talk about it with my wife who refused to acknowledge it as a real problem. This is very good - easy to follow.Substantial.
I have become friends with parents that I then had to stop going around because they would always comment thinking my child is undisciplined and putting so much pressure on me. I have ADHD and it’s very likely my son does. There are other ways that are more effective to dealing with a non typical neuro type that people without this wouldn’t understand. I’m not sad about losing the friends but I did try to force it for a long time, instead of accepting my own parenting, myself, and child. Other people will have opinions and can be negative, even if I welcomed them to share those, it did not mean they were right. And if people don’t think they are listened to they kind of lose respect, which went both ways.

Thank you for sharing❤I am getting my 3 year old screened
Myself and husband both have adhd as well (inattentive type) I have 5 kids. 2 of which have adhd as well. My 8yo is inattentive and my 5yo is hyperactive. Just had our meeting at their school for a 504 plan. This is so true, with the right tools, it can be manageable. For myself and husband, we are medicated after 15+ years of trying and failing at fitting into the societal norms but both of my boys are in occupational therapy to help them learn tools for making adhd manageable
I'm not sure if I have ADHD but here is what I do
- i get angry
- i feel depressed sometimes
-i fidget
- i struggle to make friends
-i daydream
-im messy
- i get stressed easily
- i seem dramatic over small things
- I'm shy
I find it hard to concentrate in class and sometimes I can’t sit still. I also get easily distracted and I’ve taken online tests and they say I have adhd. I’m not that forgetful but I don’t know if I have it. Pls can someone help
Get medicated
can you link me the online test?
You should get a caseworker, My friend with ADHD has one.
You might have a very slight case of adhd but it sounds more like add but just in case try to get tested
@@josephhodges8134 I met a young woman in the park today and complemented her on the health of her baby. I asked if she had the baby vaccinated and she said 'no'. I asked why and she said that her first child had ADHD and she had researched for the causes.
The channel titled, 'The Truth About Vaccines' is very informative.
There was a test to see if the viewer could tell who had ADHD and which kid didn’t and I knew that the girl had it cause she was a little shy and said she had moods and when she said she didn’t have a lot of friends and that people don’t invite her to things. it reminded me so much of my own life and it’s so hard to control yourself 😭 you just end up pushing people away bc of it awkwardness and how much you talk. It makes me so sad that she had it and has to deal with it. I get picked on a lot because of my impulsive and over active Conscious. I wish I was normal so much 😭😭
I love how I was just talking about my sisters ADHD and then I saw this video and saw the ADD and noticed it completely matched my kind of profile in school so i think i have ADD which surprised me.
I’m diagnosed and this is everything of my life. I’ve been diagnosed since I was 8, now 19 and I stopped taking my medicine since I’m not in school anymore so it’s not entirely helpful to focus and it was exhausting taking my medication
Great material!
When i was young i was taken out of class a couple times to go to a sketchy office building, stay in a room with some random guy. and play easy games like : tap X ONLY when you see the X on the screen. i felt like it was too boring and still messed up, little did i know people were watching me and that test would change my life forever..
This is some insane dad lore right here
the captions helped me alot, thanks!
I have pretty much all the symptoms apart from the aggressive side, i usually keep that to myself.
I'm 13 about to be 14 next month and I think I have ADHD. This 'noticing things before 12' gets me tripped up because although I can pinpoint specific examples of how ADHD has affected me before 12, I never really noticed any symptoms? I've been diagonsed with anxiety since I was 11. I don't know, it feels like I'm lying to myself though I know I'm not...I've never struggled academically in anything that wasn't math. Even now, I'm in an honors class and have been since I was in 4th grade where I have about 95s in every subject. It feels like I'm lying because I always thought I was 'just weird.' My family has always pushed horrible labels on me and stated that I'm not normal like other kids (which I am most definetely not). This includes socially, emotionally, and regular development because I was always slower on learning things such as tying my shoes and not wetting the bed...Those types of skills which you learn early on I only really mastered at 10 years of age. I am extremely sensitive to the point everyone at my elementary school considered me a 'cry baby' and I always dealt with anger horribly. Well, I have social anxiety so I feel like that already answers that. I know I'm different but it feels so weird that there might be a term for /how/ I'm different because there's people like me. My step brother has ADHD and I never knew until he told me last year, and we are so similar, so there's that...
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really want to get diagonised and I've researched it but I don't know how. And it sort of feels like I'm lying to myself. I don't understand. This is complicated. What should I do?
I feel you... everything that you said is literally how I’m feeling rn maybe try talking to your guidance counselor at school?
@@originalxsammy8097 Hello! I hope you're able to find the help you need! ^^ I recently re-scheduled with my therapist and I found out that he actually does ADHD evaluations! I'm really unsure because I feel as if I'm still not being truthful, and If I pinpoint this label on myself and It turns not to be true It'll be like a confirmation that I really am all the bad things people say I am. I know ADHD isn't an excuse for anything, but I think it's better to know you're different for a reason rather than just because you are.
Anyway, I think I'm going to take a chance and ask for the evaluation. I hope you're able to do so as well. I appreciate your comment and the sentiment. Have a nice day!
Going to get a diagnosis will help you find out if you have ADHD, and if not, the therapist running the diagnosis will most likely have an inkling as to who to talk to next. There is ASD which is a vast spectrum, social pragmatic disorder, and so many other disorders that once you learn about them and how they impact you, you will find the tools and skills and possibly medication you need to help you. Always be your own advocate and reach out to school staff. If your school does not have a therapist you can connect with, ask the front desk for websites and emails of psychologist staff who work for the district. They will be more than willing to help you get into contact with whomever you need.
i pretty sure i have ADHD or ADD. i’m not sure though because my father was the same as a kid, and was tested for ADHD, and didn’t have it. i find it very hard to focus in school and find myself daydreaming and fidgeting with things all the time. i also find it super hard to get into anything (reading a book or watching a video that i’m not interested in. i’ll read it and hear it in my head but i just forget about it as soon as i think about it again.). i’m bored very easily too. i sometimes get hyper for no reason. i have other things too that i can’t really describe, i guess lol.
Hi.im A Mom of a teen who was hyper and impulsive as a child and now at 13 is better but still looses focus and needs lots of reminders. From what you described you reminded me of my child so take heart it's not necessarily a bad thing people with ADHD and also people on the autism spectrum a lot of times end up being extremely creative imaginative Innovative thinkers there are RUclips videos like this to watch that will encourage you there's also tips on how to cope with ADHD online one tip is to make a list my daughter functions much better with lists and reminders that she can see. Also regulary exersize helps release excess energy and you make concentrate better after exercising because now you are calm and can focus this works well for my child also said she has been doing homeschooling since you was in second grade and really loves it.
But daydreaming is not necessarily A Bad Thing there are some people who are straight A students and very studious but cannot have one original idea and their head we are all different so focus on your qualities and not on comparing yourself to anyone else okay?. Keep smiling.you are enough.you are awesome.Be creative.Be kind. Put effort.Thats enough to be happy. We all can improve on something but don't let you obsess over it self-acceptance is very important.🙂❤-
from a well meaning Mom.
I make noises in class and the kids say can you stop and sometimes they say it really harshly, and I feel really happy and I keep making the noise. I also have these funny voices I do when I get bored, and I get hyped up when I do them, and then the kids kept laughing at me, and they always said: “Hey Simone, can you make that noise again?” I stopped doing it for them because I started to notice them snickering when I did it, and it hurts so much. I think my friend notices it too, cause she has this look on her face that is just saying “Does she know?” Or something like that.
My parents laughed at my face when i told them that i think i have adhd i am hyperactive i cant focus in class or in conversations i forget alot and find it very hard to complete small taxes
Thanks for telling me I wanted to look up my ADHD and it was a amazing help for me
Hey! I noticed it seemed you wanted to know what happened and why I came here to look. Well, I'm actually nearly 11 and am bullied for my so-called "ADHD / ADD". I'll tell my story if you're curious!
My "Friends" and I were in ELA (we're in Spanish immersion), and I wasn't paying attention, mind you, I was much more interested in the paper origami piano I created during History. I was practicing my chords for the song I was supposed to perform the next day. The teacher noticed I was interested in something other than her lesson. Her immediate thought was "Oh, this student is on her phone." May I remind you, I don't currently own a phone, just a laptop. She said something along the lines of "______, give me your phone. Class is in session." I responded with "Ma'am, I don't own a phone. I just have trouble focusing on things." After class, my "friends" humiliated me over my embarrassing encounter the class before. I believe one named Keira said something like "Dude, ADHD sucks!!!! I Have it, and it's not fun." (She didn't have it, she's just a lying b*tch.) I was curious about what ADHD actually meant.
As far as I know, I just know I have Anxiety, Depression, and Insomnia. Here I am, and I'm fairly certain I have ADHD / ADD after watching this. Thanks, and hope you found this helpful!
My dad is the biggest problem in my life because I have adhd I can't hear him good and I can't focus on anything.
A few days ago, I found out that I have adhd , soon my dad will take me to consult with a psychiatrist. Hope I get well soon.
I’m an adult with adhd people don’t believe me and I even doubted myself but then I took the medication and my life changed so much for the better so I believe fully!
“Affects their self control”
*ME : LOOKING AT OTHER VIDEOS*
Me reading comments lol
I think I have ADD I have all of the symptoms, but if I tell my mom she will think I’m lying just because my best friend has ADHD
Him explains adhd:
Me: *zones out and forgets they are watching a video.*
OMG YOU USE THE SAME SONG AS "THAT CHAPTER".... I LOVE THAT GUY.
I have ADHD and dyslexia haha
Me to
It’s so hard
I ADHD kids are so nice
Wish you good luck in scho kid
NFFCJENS !!! You just don’t, you literally said you have mental health 😂🤣🤣😂🤣
My adhd is the most common
I drink coffee to calm my self down whenever I'm to hyper im only 8 to and I dont know if 8 year olds are supposed to have adhd I dont know if other kids have adhd
But If i remember correctly I did think it was just me being super hyper active but one of my cousins said I have adhd and i wasn't really concerned about it and just let it slide after staying indoors for months I was kinda tired of being....
Inside like we're all stuck at home like seriously like
PEOPLE STOP SWALLOWING BATS
Like ya know what I'm saying.
ANYways I gotta go
You can have ADHD when you're 8, yes, but I don't think 8 year olds should have coffee-
@@kaisepher yeah that mostly true nut im 9 now
At any age you can get ADHD, So you don't need to worry
Your parents let you have coffee at eight years old?
@@crispycutie7058 ok thats at least a relief
I was diagnosed with adhd but it was never spoken of again. I want meds so bad but my parents think it’s a crush
I had those issues since my CHILDHOOD and ADULT life as well
I have ALL the signs and my mom said that’s what every kid does, she said it’s just stupid and she won’t let me get tested 0-0
Don't say it cuz they think that ure just making it
Back earlier in the year, if you look at my work from the beginning of my classes, you can see full on artworks on the top of my paper lol. My teachers always call my name and tap on me and tell me to pay attention and not draw on my papers.
Ok, I can relate with every symptom. What should I do 😐
I got diagnosed in 5th grade, but was never aware until 6th grade
The intro music sent me back to That Chapter lol
Me: Trying to watch the video
Also Me: Focuses deeply on the functioning of a plastic toy fish hook
Just because you get distracted doesn't mean you have adhd
Spittin fax 👆
I was already diagnosed but I like watching these video
Thank you for the subtitles, my headphones decided to be difficult just now.
I’m pretty sure I have ADHD but all the ADD signs match me except not overly active I get random bursts of energy I like cannot sit still at all I talk a lot and I tend to blurt things out in the middle of class
But The only thing I can relate to and type two is can’t sit still and a little bit of impulsiveness
Oh OK I didn’t see the type 3. One that matches me is type 3 but can it be diagnosed in a person 12 and older because I’m 12 and I think I have it
Literally I'm exactly the same, but 13 not 12
Very helpful!
i have all of the symptoms and i am 13 yrs old, they started since i was in 4th grade and i’m currently in 8th i haven’t been able to do homework since 6th grade and i’ve been failing a lot, i forget things really easily and i get super mad from it, i also daydream a lot and get lost basically, i have trouble staying focused and learning i’m not sure if i have adhd but it’s all i can think of? my symptoms aren’t that severe but they are causing me to fail academics and i have trouble talking to people without getting anxious, if you’ve read this what do u think i have or is it just stress?
7/9..
I’m gonna try getting an appointment scheduled.
I can!t even focus on this with the subtitles-
Hey thanks for the feedback! It is possible to turn them off by clicking on the "CC" button in the bottom right of the video 😊
Smart Course ok thanks!
My son has the signs and symptoms of type 3, but he is 5 years old, his doctor said that his is can’t be ADHD because of is age, his diagnosis is Genral developmentat delay, I confused 🤷♂️
Actually 5 years old can have ADHD. You can wait a few years if you want and check again
Hi, you have been very helpful, appreciate your efforts.. Thank you
My son has almost all the symptoms. Am tires of the school calling and atimes making it seem I am at fault because my kid does not has focus at school. ( Same at home) now I can seek help. Thankfully I live in Germany. I don't have to worry about price or insurance coverage. Thanks allot for the video.my kid is going to fine.
When your a kid watching this:
My mom thinks I'm just using adhd as an excuse to not be as focus and do bad in school which is not true I just want to get tested and make sure bc I had to drop out of a smart school bc they wouldnt let me move around and got upset my I clicked my pens and fidgeted
I’m actually pretty sure I have it. I’m not constantly in motion, more like random movements when I’m trying to concentrate. I bounce my knees a lot. The first time I had heard of it was in Percy Jackson, which sounds stupid but I realized that was similar to how I was. I easily snap, and I am DEFINITELY forgetful. I even forgot my backpack. At school. Which I wear on my back (like all the time). Being blunt is also a big part of me. I blurt random things out. My friends say I have to attention span of a goldfish, at the best. I also think my dad has it as well (or he’s just hella good at multitasking) because we both can talk and listen to five people at once. I am extremely disorganized. Trust me, you won’t believe how messy my desk and my room is.
2:39 bro just explained my whole life in less than a minute
“Get distracted alot”
Me: *draws on my hand with a sharpie in class*
My daughter’s hyperactivity started when she was 2 years old I get kids are active, but she’s literally like the energizer bunny she can literally be moving constantly even after hours of playing outside in the yard and she’s now almost 5 years old for preschool she’s homeschooled because the preschool she doesn’t qualify for because it’s a preschool for the developmentally delayed and other preschools have a waiting list and she does have some behavioral issues but her therapist will not believe me and her dad doesn’t help me during her therapy appointments i feel so helpless because he denies everything even though he’s not home with her 24/7 like I am so he doesn’t let me do the talking
So now she start school or not?
My daughter is 2.7 year old and hyperactive with delayed speech i am also worried about her school
The captions are slightly strange
