*NOTE : I recommend NOT filling the oil up to the top of the hash mark. I spoke to a mechanic at the dealer after having a couple huge billowing clouds of white smoke come out the back after running it hard and having oil get stuck in the head, sucked up by the PCV and blown into the intake where it gets burnt in the engine (Not good), and he said fill it up JUST to the BOTTOM hash mark when cold. Run it around, get it hot, shut it down, let it sit for a minute and take a measurement again. You will see the oil is higher up the dip stick due to heat expansion. He said never fill it over the bottom hash mark.

Second Note : Just got my car back from the dealer after a low oil pressure warning came on, seems the switch may have been defective. It was replaced under warranty. The oil pressure at idle was good and there were no metal shavings in the oil from bearings being chewed up, so that is good. BUT... they filled the oil up to the top of the hash marks (Checked when engine was hot after sitting for 10-20 min). Oh well, LOL. FYI : 5w40, It's summer here.

Why your still using motul 5w40 if your engines ran hotter?

Good question, IDK really. I think at the time it wasn't running hotter yet, those temps are post oil-change (Seen here). The stock oil would run @ 218-228 degrees which is well within normal, it was only AFTER I installed this new oil that it ran up around 228-236 degrees. Which still isn't bad, just not ideal.
I actually just got an oil change at the dealer (I had to due to an issue) and they used synthetic, but I have no idea what weight they used. I'm sure it was what ever the manual recommended (Which I believe is 5w40). I have some LiquiMoly 5w40 sitting right here for my next oil change.
What weight would you suggest? Would it help lower temps?

Kevin Hannon Hi; i have a polo gti 1.8 tsi, engine was running with the original oil (castrol edge 5w30), until yesterday, i put in motul 5w40 excess, but i notice 3 or 4 grades celsius more, I read wonders of motul xcess but I don't like my motor works hotter, is not a good sign.
