I really like brit's version. Her vocals have emotion and like someone else said in another comment, it tells a story.
With jojo's version, the video tells one story/has one vibe while the vocals tell another. They don't correlate in a nice way for me.
In the video, jojo seems to be gloating about her "badness", while the lyrics are regretful. I think it was a big miss.

I'm a millenial & i grew up with 2000s music, so brit's version genuinely is my favorite. Her version is unmistakably very 2000s but also y2k is trendy again now so i guess that's adding to brit's version's popularity. Aside from that she does sing better than jojo, her vocal is more pleasing to my ears.
On top of it, i think that the kind of alarm they added in jojos Version is so annoying

At the beginning, I was making a joke about the lyric Jojo Siwa changed ("Messed around" from Britt smith and "Effed around" from Jojo Siwa.) In response to that question saying "Britt effing smith" instead of the type of spelling you'd normally used. After that, I was pointing out how Britt's version makes more sense, because it's a song that is from the perspective of someone who cheated in a relationship and her lyric "I shoulda' never messed around" reflects how one might say "they're messing around with another woman/man". When, saying "they're effing around with another woman/man" wouldn't be as commonly used. Also, I was very 'pumped up' when I wrote this.

I find it disrespectful that she is calling it gay pop. It’s like trying to separate things that’s shouldn’t be separated. 1. She can actually sing and doesn't need heavy autotune
2. It sounds like it belongs in the 2010s and fits in with maneater, eolling in the deep, any kiley minogue song etc.

Brit smith's version sounds and looks like it walked straight out of 2012 (which it did), with the sound, the styling in the music video, how its coreographed... And that's fantastic, that's an era of music that I hold close to my heart and has defined my tastes so much. Jojo's version just. Doesn't work as well. The slight changes made to the sound, along with the dance and costuming just. Don't work. It just looses that charm, it looses what made it fall so comfortably within the likes of Katy Perry's Roar, Cheryl's Fight for this Love, Kesha's Die Young, Ellie Goulding's Burn and Lady Gaga's The Edge of Glory as music that came out from 2008-2014. Its just. Not the same.
it just feels like she's desperate to get away from the image we all used to associate her with. doing anything and everything to say she's NOT a child anymore, and using her queerness as a way to amplify that (I don't have the right words right now, but it's almost like she's using it for shock value? Like saying "I'm an ADULT now and I'm also GAY." Not neccessarily in a bad way, but I can't think of the right way to put it. Words are difficult so forgive me if that didn't make sense.). She's amplifying everything about herself that she can in order to distance herself from what she used to be. Buying the rights to someone else's song, using someone else's look, basically trying to not be who she used to be to the point of not even doing anything original.
I'm really excited that this rebrand is doing the exact opposite thing they probably wanted it to do with the allegations and comments against her. Everyone is learning all about them in context with the rebrand. 😂
