We should get an Electric-Rock Pika clone that's also a fossil mon that's the canonical ancestor of all Pika clones. Most of the mammals during the dinosaur times looked like rodents anyway. Also, I would definitely scream-sing with Chippu.
Paradox form called "Rolling Thunder". It's a huge pikachu with super fluffy fur puffed up from electricity that rolls around in a huge fluffy ball of electric destruction.
Agreed, at least on it looking awesome, but the concept of having a Pokemon's eyes react to the type of damage they're dealing/receiving is Nintendo AF.
I think it's interesting to note that for Pikachu evolving into Raichu in the generation it was released in then getting a pre evolution the next generation Marill evolving into Azumarill in the generation it was released in then getting a pre evolution the next generation as well The weirdest part about this is that Azurill is the only Pokemon that has connections to the previous two generations where as the rest of the Pokedex for gen3 are all brand new Pokemon evolutionary lines Sure there's no official source but it's such an interesting topic that no one really talks about...
There was also Wynatt. It’s evolution was introduced in Gen 2. I forgot how to spell it, but it’s pretty infamous from the Anime, being owned by Jessie after she accidentally traded her Lickitung for it. Gen 3 also introduced the Incense items. Prior to Gen 9, they were used to breed to get Pokémon that in prior Gens didn’t exist. The concept was greatly expanded in Gen 4. Wynatt, Azurill, Mime Jr, Happiny, Budew and Munchlax are I believe the Pokémon that were produced from Incense.
Yeah, I think gen 3 is pretty unusual in that it doesn't add any new forms to any gen 1 pokémon, which I think is something it only shares with gen 5, which is unique in not adding new forms to any previous pokémon whatsoever. It's also the only gen that only adds baby forms to the gen right before it.
Have you considered making Chippu much more chipmunk-y? Chipmunks have stripes down their backs that make a perfect place to implement the wave patterns. You could even have different forms for each different wave pattern. Also, if you depict Chippu with full cheeks, that would make for a nice nod to the Pikaclone cheeks without it giving off a "bootleg" vibe. If you think about the silhouette of a chipmunk and a squirrel, they are in fact *very* different. I think it'd be cool to see a design where you capitalize more on that.
I love that they're genetically all related, and emolga is just... my favorite little guy. I love sugar gliders/flying squirrels, and just adore the shape they chose the the ears and tail! And the fact that the anime made it a pocket sized diva who clashes with the smuggest of leaves is hilarious
Not going to lie, the first chippu was the best imo. You might have been too critical on yourself and scared if people would find it weird with your leaning in on the waveform concept.
chippu is so cute and puts a twist on pikachu clones, mostly pikachu clones and chonky but you made yours more like a slim body, and it kinda looks like a super hero
I know not everyone might like the Pikaclones every gen- but personally really love them! It’s also ways cool to see what they come up with! And I especially love your design :D
I do like your final design, but heck. I LOVE your first design of Chippu! It's so adorable and I love the concept of using the tinted glasses for showing chiptune waves. >w< I dunno why you weren't really satisfied with it tbh, my absolute favorite of the designs. It'd be really cool if you did reference it in your final product.
8:27 there's actually a kinda similar idea in biology called: deep sea gigantism! theres a popular video going around describing how it works, and affects animals like giant squid :D

This was super engaging with the evolution of Chippu! Really fun video! I love all Pikaclones they're awsome, also I HAVE to say I adore the original Chippu SO much the goggles with the waveform patterns are just SO delightful!!

@@BeeBwakka 100% facts, it was definitely just Marill. We hadn’t seen it yet, and much like how we do now, we were quick on the draw to make theories and run with them.
Thanks for the thump on the head. I've been overthinking a textile design I've been working on and this video gave me a spark. It is a great day when Pokemon content gives life lessons. I responded the most to your little guy with the sunglasses that sort of resembled Raltz. Your final design was equally awesome. Good job on getting that sorted out.
This came out amazing! I really loved the progression you shared of your "pikaclone." While it may no longer be a traditional pikaclone in pokemon standards, the final product is best for your game concept. It's a silly lil guy :D
Gigantimax pikachu could he an extreme example of gigantism, where a mutation causes a creature to be extra large, and often causes different proportions such as being rounded or more muscular

great video, very entertaining commentary and I really liked the discussion of your design development over time. guess we CAN learn a lot from some little electric rodents...
Honestly I prefer the very first Chippu design with the wave glasses. I feel like turning the glasses into its eyes and adding other nerdy features would make it even cuter in a dorky way
Hey, I just got this video reccomended and I loved it! I liked how you explained the pikaclone and the bits op science facts sprinkled over the video. ❤
Super cool to see the whole design process come along and all the different iterations come to life. These days there is so much fear in online artists of showing their process/failures/etc and everyone just wants to show a highly curated body of 'finished' looking art on their socials (no hate to people who do this ofc). I just love seeing artists have the confidence to show the stages that brought them to the end product, and not just the last version. Very cool video 👍
Honestly, the thing that would help your designs stand out and have them all feel less indistinguishable in relationship to each other would to really lean hard into understanding shape language and pleasing, balanced proportions. Pokemon excels at it this, but I see alot of offbrand creature dexes not really picking up on that. That said, love your video and I wish you the best in your pursuits.
kinda liked the first of you sound rats. i would go bigger on the ears and have them curve together over the eyes instead of the glasses so it would have a giant visor looping in front of it's face. kinda give it a disc jockey look.
Haven't finished the video but I wanna say something for 7:01 While I do agree with how you're sayign Mimikyu isn't a pikaclone, I don't think a pokemon *has* to share the Electric type with Pikachu to be a pikaclone. Honestly I'd still say Marill makes a good pikaclone even if it wasn't intentional. Also I would not count Pichu or Alolan Raichu as Pikaclones for one important reason. *They are just literally Pikachu*. One evolves into Pikachu, and one evolves from Pikachu. They just *are* Pikachu.
I can say that your last design for Chippu is for me the best, it actually clicks as its own thing for me instead of a reference, so to me you accomplished that mission.
In my opinion, I really like the first shown design of chippu. I like the colour palette, the silhouette, and the dynamic aspect with the glasses. I feel like for the current chippu I'd like to see the tail be dynamic similar to the glasses.
I'm a little surprised at not sticking with Chippu's first design - that one is easily the best one imo. Love the concept, although its eyes are hardly visible because of the sound wave depictions. I would have put the holographic sound wave onto its stomach, resembling a bit how the old Tamagotchi devices looked. Those toys also beeped with chiptune style sound effects, making it seem ideal.
