LEARN HOW TO MAKE A CRISPY PAN SEARED GYOZA RECIPE RIGHT AT HOME!
LAY HO MA! There's nothing more magical than crispy pan seared dumplings. These little pillows of deliciousness are incredibly easy to make and are bursting with flavour. Join me in this episode and learn how to make a crispy pan seared gyoza recipe restaurant style right in the comfort of your very own home. Let's begin
    Ingredients:
    medium piece ginger
    2 pieces garlic
    3 sticks green onion
    225g nappa cabbage (5 cups)
    1 tbsp + 1 tsp chili oil
    pinch of crushed chili flakes
150g Omni Pork Ground (1 cup)
    18 dumpling wrappers
    drizzle of avocado oil
    1/4 cup water
    1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
    1 tsp rice vinegar
    1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
    Directions:
    1. Grate the ginger and garlic into a large mixing bowl. Finely chop the green onions and add to the mixing bowl
    2. Finely chop the nappa cabbage
    3. Heat up a non-stick pan to medium heat. Add 1 tbsp of chili oil followed by the nappa cabbage. Sauté for 4-5min
    4. Transfer the nappa cabbage to the mixing bowl. Add the crushed chili flakes along with the Omni Pork Ground. Mix well
    5. Have a small cup of water ready before making the dumplings. Place a generous tsp of filling in the middle of the wrapper. Then, line the edges with a little bit of water
    6. Close the dumpling by firmly pleating the edges together. Firmly press the dumpling onto the cutting board to create it’s iconic crescent shape. Repeat from step 5 to make the rest of the dumplings
    7. Heat up a non-stick pan to medium heat. Add a drizzle of avocado oil
    8. When the oil begins to smoke, place in the dumplings and let them sear for 1-2min. Then, add the ¼ cup of water into the pan but have a lid ready to cover immediately
    9. Let the dumplings steam for about 2-3min. Then, remove the lid and let the dumplings sear for another 30sec. Turn off the heat
    10. Making the dipping sauce by combining the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and the remaining chili oil
    11. Plate the gyoza and garnish with toasted sesame seeds and freshly chopped green onions

I'm half Japanese, so I grew up eating gyoza. Even though Chinese crescent dumplings are the original, it took me a while to get used to them. They always seem to have too much cabbage or too much meat from what I'm used to. I eventually got used to it, and I appreciate the greater variety.
What's funny is that my elderly Japanese mother sees *every* dumpling through gyoza.
When she first tried ravioli, her response was "Oh! Italian gyoza!"
When she first tried empanada, her response was "Oh! Mexican gyoza!"
When she first tried pierogi, her response was "Oh! Polish gyoza!"
I always found that so cute. Anyway, your dumplings look delicious! Since the dipping sauce is soy sauce and vinegar, the marinade is that plus garlic and ginger. This is one of the few times Japanese people marinate ground meat.

      Parotha: Indian flatbread
      Tortilla: Mexican flatbread
      Roti: Trinidadian flatbread
      Injera: Ethiopian flatbread
Pita: Middle Eastern or Greek flatbread
I’m sure there are others I’m forgetting at the moment. :-)

Another fun recipe from Wil! Luckily the Sprous market nearby carries Omnipork. I substituted homegrown garlic chives for the green onions, and added dried shiitake mushrooms that I soaked and minced finely, plus a small pinch of salt for the filling. I plan an afternoon every couple of months and I make about 100 of these and then freeze them for a quick dinner. My filling is very similar, although I do use real pork, but I find that what makes a really big difference is adding a little bit of sesame oil to the filling and to the dipping sauce. Also, I am really big on making everything from scratch, but I only once tried to make my own wrappers. 😅

Will what is your take on air fryer I’ve been on the fence . I’ve never use any plant base products not sure if they have that in California. Looks really interesting I’d need some rice too . You really are telling the truth got to have the crunch omg you nail it . Took me back when I use to eat only the wrappers because I don’t eat pork happy Saturday great .

Thanks heaps Wil. I’m gyoza eat these tonight. The last 30 -90 seconds in the pan make sure you have a lovely crispy bottom.

I make gyoza all the time but I use tofu along with vegetables as the filling. I make a BIG batch and freeze for super fast weeknight meals. I don’t like meat substitutes probably because I don’t like meat at all.

I am not sure if we have the same meat substitute here in Sweden but I can use tofu instead. 😊

Hey, if Omni sponsored this, you're supposed to clearly disclose that it's sponsored content. You could get in legal trouble with youtube if you received compensation from Omni to plug their products in this video, because if you did, it was definitely not disclosed.

I made the Chili Oil a few weeks ago but only half as much. Now it’s getting hard to get out only the left over oil without scooping some Sechuan pepper corns out as well. I think I will separate the oil like you did in this video. How long would you recommend keeping all the spices in the oil jar before filtering?
