It's a GREAT feeling!!! I told my husband today when he came home that after this last canning batch I was in the middle of doing, it would be it until December(ish) when I would do more beans (or meats). I canned 7 quarts of corned beef and it feels so good to put my canner away. This garden season has me utterly exhausted. Im not complaining though, I have such a stocked pantry and I love it! Although we arent dealing with job loss, furloughs, or seasonal unemployment (well, it isnt ever out of the question since we own our own company) but I do keep a very well stocked pantry through the winter for personal reasons. I avoid shopping and as many public situations as possible during the virus and flu seasons. My MS treatments do wonders with keeping my MS from attacking but unfortunately it depletes my immune system so if there's a virus to catch, I'll catch it lol. We just welcomed a foster placement of 2 brothers 2 weeks ago and I already caught a cold from them.....so although that was avoidable, I at least didnt have to be sick AND grocery shop :) It's been my way of life for 3 years and Im never going back to a standard pantry and weekly grocery living ever again! You have a great pantry and a lot of hard work goes into it. Great job!!!

We had pressure canned chili that was definitely still good at 5 years (it was on a shelf that got hid by baby stuff). That mixed fruit - you can purée it into a sauce and use in baking to replace most of the oil.

I enjoyed this video. I would love to hear more about your wonderful grandmother & her 18 children & how hard it was to provide for her children. God Bless her & all the dear grandmothers! I have raised my 3 grandsons from babies & fought the court system for 5 years to get them. It was financially devastating but I had to get them in a safe home with plenty of love & food. They are beautiful boys now, 17, 15, & 14, & such a blessing. I watch you because it is difficult to feed 3 hungry, growing teens! Love you! 💕🌷

Spectacular job on your pantry! I’m 68, been gardening all my life, cooking from scratch and have taught my kids these skills. I’ve been pressure canning the past two years and I’m obsessed with it. Lol my pantry has overflowed into the “tool room” and some even in my garage. I love your shelves and since I’m a widow I repurposed book cases, they hold two quarts deep and ten jars across, which works perfectly fine for me.

I had some chicken from a rotisserie and threw in peas n carrots n green beans it was filling! Also I add a raw egg and let it cook with the ramen and it’s like having egg drop soup with noodles

Since I just found you a few weeks ago, I’m going back & catching up on some things. Idk how you made your tomato powder, but 1870’s homestead kept all their slipped tomato peels/seeds etc from canning-tossed them in a freezer bag then freeze dried them. They use the powder for tomato paste or like you said, as a thickener. They love it.

Hi Renée, yes I agree with you that there's something comforting about knowing that you have a healthy store of food that'll last longer than a year. I have been canning applesauce and apple butter it seems like forever. But I'm finally done. I had a mishap when I was on a ladder picking apples this year. The ladder went one way and I went the other way. I got checked out at the ER, but it's taking me a while to heal. It didn't slow me down much because I had things to get done.

I use tomato powder in everything. Just for flavor even when I dont want a tomato flavor, I will add a small amount to brown gravy or roasts. It just gives it a depth of flavor, it is almost like it intensifies the other flavors you are using without the tomato flavors. I do not know if I explained that well but it is so good. I even use it to make pasta noodles 🤗 with a little seasonings, it is delishous. I use it in my broths for canning. Hope it helps. God bless

Hi, from across the pond! I’ve started recently to store additional food, and invested in a dehydrator. I’ve made mirepoix, dehydrated apples, onions, and mushrooms to date. I’m dairy allergic so tend to cook everything from scratch, so ready mix cakes and sauces are mainly a nono, but I do buy vegan mayo in larger quantities just in case! My grandfather owned a bar in Dearborn by Fords Rouge factory. Grandma would cook and the men who worked at Ford would come for lunch. The mayor often came also. Like your Grandma everything she made was from scratch. And the baking she could do!! Walnut tortes that contained no flour! She would make strudel dough on a white linen tablecloth on her kitchen table. She would walk around the table stretching the dough with her fingertips and never tear it. It was thin enough to read a newspaper through. She lived to cook!!

@@LittleVillageHomestead No, no, Renea, I watched the entire video. It was great! Wishing I had a root cellar though, otherwise it's difficult to store fresh things like squashes, potatoes, onions, garlic, etc I'm in SE Michigan near lake saint clair.

Renae you remind me so much of my Grama Ferne. You are teaching me so much about food storage. Thank you and God Bless You!!

Kale grows crazy and is awesome in a mixed green combination. Im not a fan of it but I use alot of it dried. Mainly for nutrition.
