    I have a 33 year old Beaufort from 1989, with some wear to the lining and sleeve seams but that adds to the character. After a waxing it looks superb. Also have a rustic Bedale that's 2018 and still looks new despite a lot of wear, especially after waxing it at home. Excellent jackets, the ones made in England, anyway. 👌

    I love my classic Beaufort. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne, which is very close to South Shields where the Beaufort is made. It’s made to exactly the same specification as it was when it was first made, years ago. I know someone who works in the Barbour factory and the workers are so proud of the jackets they make. Never throw away a classic Barbour jacket, send it to be repaired, it’s a badge of honour to have it repaired! A classic Barbour will be passed down generations

    I grew up in Sussex, in the south of England. My parents bought me a Barbour for my 18th birthday. That was over 40 years ago, and back then it was a country jacket - anyone wearing one in a city was a rural stray! I have worn mine in all conditions. Done up (only really comfortable once the temperature is below freezing), it has kept me dry in the most brutal conditions. While I lived in the UK, I waxed it every year, when I got it out of storage, as Autumn started to get wet and windy. That made a huge difference.
    I am about to visit Sussex, so I got the jacket out to look over before packing. I am having to have it repaired (a small tear) for the first time. To be fair, I do look after clothes carefully, and now live in Singapore, so I wore it frequently only for the first 15 years.
    I was looking for guidance on rewaxing, as it has been a few years since I have even unpacked the jacket, and came across your video. I enjoyed your perspective, and it's interesting to see how it stands up elsewhere.

    I live in Georgia in the US and Barbour jackets are the perfect jacket for the South. Our winters are generally milder compared to Canada or the North but wet. A Barbour Beaufort is the absolute perfect jacket here. I have a Classic Beaufort, a Thornproof Beaufort that is 33 yrs old and a Thornproof Bedale that is brown. I think the Bedale looks the best but the Beaufort is the better all around jacket for everyday wear. I have a pile lining for the Classic Beaufort and the jacket and liner together are more than adequate for the coldest weather we will get (lows in the 20s). I have worn the Classic Beaufort as an overcoat over a coat and tie on a trip to NYC in November and it was perfect. A Barbour over a wool sweater is warm enough for all but the coldest weather we get.
    I will say, repair costs from Barbour are pretty high. I recently sent my old Thornproof Beaufort in for a repair to a half dollar sized hole in the sleeve and I was sort of surprised at a cost of $60 for the repair only, they did not rewax the jacket. I will generally rewax my jackets myself every 3 or 4 years and send them back to Barbour for a professional rewaxing every 5 or 6 years. .

      I wear around 50 years Barbour jackets. They are good quality jackets but you get wear and tear in them,just like many other things. Sending a jacket to be fixed to the factory doesn't make sense if you're not living in the UK. The costs are to high, the same as waxing. Better do it yourself and buy a new jacket when it's necessary.

    I live in Montreal and I don’t think I saw more than 2 people wearing a Beaufort since I moved here. In my opinion, it’s what it defines you as a unique guy - ok let’s say immigrant from Europe - it’s pretty common French people ask me where I bought it, because they can’t find one here - or for a reasonable price (bought mine for less than 200 euros on Stuart’s London) Of course it won’t be as protective as an - made in China - Arc teryx jacket, but just because of the game pocket and the new anti plastic bags law, it is really cool and practical to wear it!

    I just received my first ever Barbour jacket, the classic Bedale. However, I noticed that there were only two royal crests shown on my tag instead of the usual three crests. So, I started panicking thinking maybe I purchased a counterfeit. After looking up online, Barbour removed Prince Philip’s crest after he passed away in April 2021. It turns out that products that carry royal warrants, such as Barbour, have two years to remove a royal member’s coat of arms when one passes away or relinquishes one’s royal title. 😮
    I guess Barbour will have to remove the Queen’s crest after her recent death, and they will change Charle's title to “His Majesty the King”.

    Previously had two Beauforts, I've found that the inner side of the arms get punctured easily by the zip to the game pocket at the back, so much so, it was perforated with tears and holes which greatly annoyed my old lady no end. She detests wax jackets, especially if they have any holes in them. I would also advise not wearing any backpacks with Barbours, the straps will eventually wear out the cotton and cause tears and holes at the shoulder area which then really compromises water resistance.

    Hi, I just purchased my first Barbour Ashby, and I was wondering if you have any tips for the regular care and cleaning of your Barbour Jacket. I know it can't be washed and should only be wiped with a damp cloth. However, does it really not develop any odor or stains over time?

    • @OneManReviews
      @OneManReviews  10 месяцев назад +1

      I use brush for cleaning the dust or wet cloth for stains. My Barbours haven't developed any odour. But it's the nature of waxed materials that they are aging.

    Loved the video. In Canada, one Barbour jacket costs us the same as our national GDP. You've spent a lot to look like a homeless person. I have a similar looking wax/cotton jacket made in Canada but it has developed a mold smell that I just can't get out completely. Would love to find a used Barbour.
