Great jackets...I've owned these for years and other Barbours. Just being picky, but even though it's spelt Bedale, it's pronounced 'Beeedale' Glad to see people over the pond appreciating an amazing British brand. 🇬🇧
Barbour jackets are literally the most solidly built jackets made and are absolutely timeless. I have worn them for years. They dress up or down. Great review OLAF.
I was fortunate enough to find a store that had these jackets and I gotta say wow! Just looking at pictures or videos doesn´t do justice, unlike most brand jackets it actually feels justified to spend a fair ammount of money on this jacket. For me the Beaufort feels right for me, I strongly prefer that easy to access inside zipper pocket instead of that velcro on the Bedale and the large back pocket will come very handy.
Nefus1988 great jacket. there is no other jacket in the world like the Beaufort. in fact if there was one jacket I could wear for the rest of my life the Beaufort would be it. it works from wet snowing freezing windy weather to warm summer rain showers. Enjoy.
Thank you for all your Barbour reviews. I’m currently tossing and turning between these jackets and these reviews have helped (Beaufort btw). Be nice to see an updated review and where your at with your collection now😊
I love watching your reviews even though I’m a women and obviously your reviewing men’s jacket. Your videos are great. I can tell your a Barbour enthusiast. I got one as a present and nowI have 4 and counting.
The lining now (2022) is a more modern tartan, larger print. My brother bought a Beaufort 30 years ago. It only expired recently, so he got another one. The Beaufort is one of the very few Barbour jackets made in England. If it is not written Made in England on the neck label, then it is made in China , Turkey or Romania.
Well put together vid and conveys the sense of affection people (including myself) have for their own Barbour, as well as the length of time they last for. Proper. 👍
Very good review, pleasant disposition….. we love the Barbour jackets … they look great in the city paired with cashmere sweaters .. a man looks relaxed and casual but nice dressed in these jackets… check out the ladies selection … nicely made to last you a life time when we’ll cared for
Absolutely beautiful jackets. Thank you for doing a thorough review on your jackets and hood, it is helpful as I just ordered my first Barbour Beadnell Waxed jacket and hope to hold on to it for years to come! The review of the hood is helpful as well and I will be ordering it to go with my new jacket. Thank you!
Hi Olaf Great comparison of the both jackets, looking for a Beaufort at the moment. Couldn't decide from the bedale or Beaufort. But watching this ,I'll go for the Beaufort. Thanks for uploading this very useful video! I own a navy colored '94 Bedale jacket, also in size 38", so it's nice to see the exact difference between a Beaufort. Thanks!
thank you so much, this review is very informative, you covered everything. back length, size, sleeve length, chest size etc. well done. btw the tartan cuts off on bedale because it was make for horse riders, hence it has back flaps.
Very informative video thanks! I live in England, and I didn't realise that Barbour jackets were popular in the US too? I always thought it was just the UK and European market's that was interested. Those Barbour's sure get around! :)
This one video was all I needed to convince me to subscribe! Great videos! As a viewer I can almost feel the quality of the jackets through the screen, haha. Keep it up!
I am the same height as you are, but for me even the Beaufort is too short (arms also) I would prefer it longer, like my DIY waxed navy smock I use for fishing. I would also welcome some thoughts about the design of the collar and frontal neck piece which should be roomier in order to accommodate something like a heavy wool scarf or a turtle neck Irish fisherman´s sweater... the cover of the collar could perhaps also benefit from another type of fabric than corduroy, which could be better suited for extreme climate. A hood for $45 ??? at this price I would expect a better collar design (as mentioned)!! Interior pockets are a must, and true wool tartan also, better if it is also your clan´s tartan... longer arms and a better cuff closing system are also on my list. These jackets are a classic and it is not advisable to change too much, so improvements should respect the original design and concept. So its up to the manufacturer to see if these recommendations are feasible. I love these jackets, after sweating and freezing for years inside Gore-Tex & friends, I am totally into waxed cotton and wool... greetings from wild, wet, windy and wonderful Western Patagonia

@@Tacteyecoolno. Right. Pockets are pockets…the average Barbour wearing isn’t going to put dead fowl in the poachers pocket…more like a bottle of milk and the Sunday paper, which is great 👍
I believe Barbour repair 1 owner jackets that are 50 or more years old. I’ve had several of their jackets. Several because I’ve out grown the early ones. Had my Beaufort repaired and re waxed after c.30 or so years wear. Only downside is returns in the U.K. can take 2 or 3 months to arrive back. If repairing, best sending off in summer time. In days gone by, detachable hood was included. Now a separate purchase. A traditional product that doesn’t date.
I just bought a Barbour Ouston Quilted jacket and what an awesome jacket it is it fits like a glove really worm and not to dear £180 well worth it really good design.
Hi mate, I know this is an old video now so might not get a reply. but would you say the bedale is a slightly tighter fit or could you fit a jumper/sweater underneath still? Thanks.
Hi MJ! I'm still here. LOL. The Bedale is oversized and not a slim fitted jacket. It is actually meant to be sized to take a formal dress shirt and thick wool sweater worn together underneath. I'm 5'8" tall and 160 lbs and have a C38 Bedale that fits me with space for sweaters.
@0LAF2046 Hi Olaf, thanks for the info, I'm still deciding between either the bedale or the ashby. I'm just over 6ft so i think the slightly longer ashby would benefit more... just wish it had the cuffs on the sleeves like the bedale haha.

I really appreciate your Barbour videos. I just bought a Bedale (Black) but right after I completely fell in love with Beaufort (Sage) too. In your opinion it make sense to buy the Sage Beaufort too immediately after the Black Bedale?
How come my newly bought Beaufort jacket doesn't have snaps or zip for inner lining? Also no snaps to attach a hood... Are there different types of Beauforts? thanks
Can you please provide chest sizing guide. I wear a 40" chest sports jacket and would like to comfortably wear a Beaufort over it but fit confortably and not too big. Sports coat sleeve is 25" shoulder to sleeve.
Hey James I'm thinking a C40 in the Beaufort will fit your needs. Im a 38R suit size and sports jacket sizing and the C38 Beaufort covers my suits. If you are a 40" and want the space for the Beaufort to go over then the C40 Beaufort will be perfect.
Is there a reason your wearing the badge ? They don’t come with the jacket anymore . The badge looks well but I didn’t order one with my jacket I might have to
All Barbour wax jackets before around 2004 came with the Barbour pin on the jacket. Barbour did make jackets for motorcycle racing which Steve Macqueen used but the ones you're showing are purely outdoor country work jackets. Thanks for doing these mate. Cheers.
Excellent review! I was wondering what I should search or type (on google) if I want to find the classic bedale (just like the one you have) with gold coated buttons? P.S. if you're selling yours I am more than willing to buy it ;)
Yes. In NYC Orvis for $45 will ship your jackets to a site in New Hampshire. It takes 2 to 3 weeks during the summer months when everyone forgot they have a Barbour jacket in their closet (May to Sept). However it can take 3 to 6 weeks during the peak seasons when everyone realizes their jackets need re-waxing and cleaning (Sept to April)
I believe the Barbour USA website and actual NYC Soho Barbour store may use a different site for the rewaxing. Unless NC is the new site and NH is no longer used. I haven't rewaxed my coats this season as yet.
@@olaf2046 it looks great, that goes so well with the hunting coat. What kind of buckle is that? The ones I have found on or is and roydon leather have more conventional buckles.
My total apologies! I mix the old and the new! Gore Tex, Deer Tex, but I love my Barbour wax, Northumberland Jacket and have done for the past 30 years! I'm out in the Lake District for at least a third of the year, so all my kit gets a good seeing too! God Bless and Merry Christmas !
Hi Olaf - I just watched a girl demonstrating the features of the ladies' Beadnell - she zipped the *inner liner zips* together to get a snug fit and then zipped the outer, main zip. Can you do this with your Bedale or Beaufort? I'm curious to see if this is an overlooked trick! All the best, Rob in Switzerland.
I don't think so. My wife has a Beadnell quilt. I will check my Classic Barbour Wax Jackets and her Beadnell Quilt as soon as I get home. If it does do this then I will have to make a video for it. The weather in NY was really warm today so I didn't wear any of my Barbour jackets to work.
RobWhittlestone yes it is confirmed. The newer generation wax jacket with the zip in liner track can be double zipped to keep you warmer. Neat trick. I’m surprised I never noticed. I will do a video showing how it’s done tomorrow.

hi awesome review, just wondering if you have any of the "Barbour International" line and if so, could you review on them
Excellent review! I was wondering what I should search or type (on google) if I want to find the classic bedale (just like the one you have) with gold coated buttons? P.S. if you're selling yours I am more than willing to buy it ;)
Olaf, you can get the coat rewaxed in NYC? Or are you saying sending from NYC to North Carolina takes two weeks (NC being where Barbour says to send)?
Thanks! Yes on the Barbour site it says Winston-Salem. Thanks again, good presentation.
Is the Bedale warm enough for winter?
Hannes K yes. It is very warm down to 25F degrees as worn with a dress shirt and wool sweater.
Now I really wish I kept my pin, I have no idea where it went
where can i find a good vintage one with the old tartan?
Very unique belt. Where's it from?
Hey Penn it’s a shot shell belt from Orvis. The Royden Leather website also sells them.
Still think your jackets are miles too small for you!
Ray Fraser fashion fit, over a function fit, they look okay, but I see your point if he wanted it to fit as cut, a size bigger would be better.
@@olaf2046 I wore my old Beaufort with the button-in furry liner. It was +1°C (about 34°F) this morning. All the best, Rob
RobWhittlestone yes it is confirmed. The newer generation wax jacket with the zip in liner track can be double zipped to keep you warmer. Neat trick. I’m surprised I never noticed. I will do a video showing how it’s done tomorrow.
@@olaf2046 Cool! Looking forward to it! See you later! ATB, Rob
Are both of the jackets in sage green?
