    Excellent review. The Bedale is an equestrian jacket designed to be worn while riding. The snap flap at the bottom of the Bedale is designed so the coat tail will drape over the back of the saddle when riding. The gusseted sleeves are also designed with riding in mind as the gussets keep wind from blowing up the sleeve when riding at speed. The nylon "skirt" is on the Bedale so moisture will not wick up the cotton lining if riding in the rain.
    The Beaufort is designed to be an upland hunting jacket. The longer length allows for more protection from briars and the slightly lower hand warmer pockets allow for more comfortable cradling of a shotgun while walking. The game pouch is self explanatory. I find the game pouch ideal for storing a scarf or even a light sweater.

    Well done. A very nice post. I have a Beaufort in Sage and a Classic Bedale. I enjoy both of them. I tend to wear the Beaufort a little more often because of the Beaufort poacher pocket and for the inside pocket for my cell phone - it's more convenient to use than the Bedale's inner pocket. Although I do not hunt, that poacher pocket comes in very hand e.g., for an extra dog leash, dog tug, ball, book, newspaper, etc, leaving both hand free. Additionally, I do like the Beaufort style and the Bedale's style is similar. IMHO they are both great waxed jackets and one cannot go wrong with opting for either jacket.

The reason I did so is because during winter I frequently wear a jacket, a warm bulky sweater or a vest under the jacket. The larger size provides me with a good range of motion when the jacket is zipped up.. Additionally, there have been several times when I have worn either jacket over a suit during inclement weather. Excellent jackets for nearly any occasion! 😀

    The Bedale is a horse riding jacket, the Beaufort is a hunting jacket. That is the reason for the Bedale being shorter. Your "correct" style also depends on where you live. 3/26/24 Thanks for the video. I have several Beaufort jackets. Two in 48 and one in 46. I actually wear a size 50 sport coat and can size down quite a bit. This is exaggerated even more in the Bedale as you suggested. I bought a 46 Bedale and the chest size is 28 inches across which is akin to a size 56 sport coat. It fits like an XXXL. It is unusable in my opinion. I’ve ordered a size 44 in a Bedale and will see if this is a better fit. Seems strange to wear a 50 suit coat but have to buy a 44 Barbour Bedale to fit well. Very inconsistent sizing between the different models.

    I'm normally a slim 38 in everything but the Bedale runs HUGE. I sized down to a 36 like you did. Main issue is the sleeves run a bit short. Still feels boxy even in a 36. I liked the Bedale because I wanted the brown color. I dislke the massive collar size and trademark circle zipper though. Also wish the handwarmers were lower down. The more I write here the more I realize I need to just sell this jacket. I like the length of the bedale on you but actually prefer the trimmer chest of the beaufort. The bedale just looks SO boxy. I snagged mine for only $180.

      Fair points, but I like the extra room to layer in the Bedale. I want to comfortably wear a thick sweater or even a sports coat underneath. you must be taller than me, because the sleeves were just right, and the jacket length looked too long on the Beaufort.

    If you want a warmer option there is also the Northumbria, it’s a longer coat, fit similar to the Beaufort although has two internal poachers pockets (removable and waterproof) rather than the one across the back. It’s also made from an 8oz waxed cotton whereas the Bedale and Beaufort are both 6oz waxed cotton, you notice the difference in weight wearing it! Only warning for that one is the hoods do not quite match (even though they are advertised as the same colour), I originally had the same hood as yours (the classic sylkoil hood) but have switched to the storm hood as the colour match is closer (although not quite perfect), although in time I am sure they will age similarly.

    Bottom of it opens out to go over saddle and front of trousers while sitting. Some use as fashionable jackets that like a slim fit ,go down a size then find sleeves are to short,correct size they should be quite baggie to accommodate layering for different seasons. Most prefer these as lighter,slightly less chest tolerance than the Beaufort, I use both,Beaufort is heavier material and bigger all round ,for layering during the winter months. Yes, according to the tag, the inner lining is 100% cotton. The drip strip (below the patterned lining) is 100% polyester. The outer is 100% waxed cotton.

    I’m currently looking for a Barbour and tried on a few today. I tried on the Ashby, which is the slimmer version of the Bedale and it was way too short on me. Then I tried the Beaufort and it was perfect. However, I’m 6’3” with a chest size of 38”.
    The Bedale looks more in proportion for yourself.

    • @sc1
      @sc1  Год назад

      The Bedale works best for me. But I am not 6’3”. I am only 5’7”.
      I’m not interested in the slimmer Ashby. I would rather have some room to layer.
      Given your height, I would really consider getting the Beaufort.

    • @gotthefeelin
      @gotthefeelin Год назад

      @@sc1 Yes, I prefer the fuller cut too for layering. The Ashby was too tight under the arms. I only tried it as my local department store only stocked those two models.
      I’ll be going for the Beaufort. I thought I may need the Border being tall, but the Beaufort was fine.

    • @gotthefeelin
      @gotthefeelin Год назад

      @@paulmcgrew2932 I tried the 38 and the 40. The 38 fit and looked great on me, the 40 was a little too large in the body. However, it’s still warm here in England, so I only had a thin merino wool jumper on as a layer, so need to go back and try them on with a thicker lambswool jumper. I don’t want it tight around the arm holes.
      I went to the department store for trousers, so trying on the Barbours was just to gauge if I liked them or not after seeing photos. The Beaufort I tried on was also the 40th Anniversary model if that makes any difference to sizing.
      It’s tough for me as I’m very slim with wide shoulders. My waist is 31”.

    • @gotthefeelin
      @gotthefeelin Год назад

      @@paulmcgrew2932 Update! I’m going to have to retract my original statement, I returned today to spend more time with them and the sleeves on the 38” Beaufort are an inch too short for me when I relax my arms to the side. Seeing as I’ll be wearing it in damp weather it’s a dealbreaker. The body was perfect otherwise, this time I wore a thicker jumper and it was fine, not restricted at all on the upper body.
      The 40” was fine on the sleeves, but is just too big in the body for me. Looks like I’ll have to buy a Border (or similar) in 38!

      I guess that is the reason for the bedale having the fabric cuffs and the Beaufort (and my Northumbria) having the polyester cuffs, if you are shooting you arms will be up more so the fabric cuffs will hold more water. I don’t use mine for shooting so may send to Barbour to get the fabric cuffs.
