The Barbour Beaufort is a British Country Sports (Game Shooting) jacket. The sleeves are short to aid shotgun use. The front pockets are large for shotgun cartridges. The hand warmer pockets are for stopping your fingers from freezing when standing with your shotgun waiting for the next drive of birds. Game bird Season in the UK runs from the end of August to first week of February. It rain's a hell of a lot in October and November. And is very chilly. A jacket that can withstand this environment is a jacket for life.
Those are some good points ) Thanks.
Excellent and most helpful comment. Do wonder if the jacket comes with straps to keep the front pocket flaps open for easy access during shooting. These straps have a push-button and are normally tucked -away in the handwarmer pockets.
no hunter here but i am a guy from the netherlands who bikes everywhere no car no scooter i have the baeufort simply for its looks and function it's amazing and as you know the climate here is kinda similar to the uk!
@@Methodsaimon Same as in Azores (Portuguese islands).
I've had my Beaufort jacket for three years and find it indispensable for the variations of weather in Michigan. I bought it for the length so I can wear my Harris tweed sport coat and not look out of place.
Thank you for sharing your story. Barbour jacket and Harris tweed sport coat is a great combination )
I enjoyed the review thank you. I've had a Beaufort since the late 1980's, I've rewaxed it every two or three years and it's now due to go back to Barbour for lining repairs. My Beaufort has been great value for money and at times during ownership I've even been fashionable! A word of caution though, the Zips to the rear pocket can cause havoc to car upholstery and your mother in laws furniture which won't make you popular.
Thank you Paul for that beautiful story about your Barbour.
Thanks for this review. I own a 1991 vintage Bedale which was recently re-waxed by Barbour and I recently bought a NOS 1989 vintage Beaufort. Of the two, the Bedale is considerably shorter, given it was originally designed for riding, but it has the knitted cuffs, which I prefer. The large rear pocket on the Beaufort is handy for storing gloves and a scarf and the longer length makes it warmer. I also have the acrylic liner and detachable hood, which are transferable.
I’d be interested to see a review of the vintage jackets versus their more modern iterations. From what I understand, the Classic Bedale and Classic Beaufort continue to be made in the U.K., but some online commentators appear to suggest there has been a decline in build quality over the years.
Keep up the good work! 🧥
I have a regular Beaufort. I sprung for the matching hood and liner too. My arms are covered to the wrist with the sleeves. With Nova Scotia’s increasingly mild winters, I might be able to wear it year round. I have a Beaconsfield parka and Union Jack motorcycle jacket too. Barbour makes excellent gear.
Nice. Thanks for sharing. The Union Jack is a very cool jacket!
I love the Baeufort Jacket - have mine since 30 years - you can send them in to get them refreshed, waxed whatever - just great and stylish for a lifetime
Wow. 30 years, that’s a lot. I hope I would carry the same Beaufort jackets through the years.
I was thinking to send it to Barbour. But they don’t do it in Canada. You have to send it to the US.
Hello. Is it a faff to get them re-waxed and how much is that out of interest? (Thinking ahead!). Cheers.
@@mrboneill6882 you can bring it to your local dealer and they send them in. No problem
I have a classic Barbour Bedale and I had no problems wearing it with a vest last winter at -15 degrees Celsius. Best regards Oni
That's interesting, I can wear Barbour jackets when it is not below -5, even with a vest. With -15 I wear Arcteryx or Woolrich parkas )
I recently bought the Beaufort. Excellent jacket with one problem - the sleeves are too short (even to aid shot gun use). For those who do not intend to shoot, it is still worth buying but you will want to use Barbours alteration service to extend the sleeves 2 - 3 cm....and factor in the additional cost...
I really like the Durham, had one for years. Also have the Linhope featherweight, non-waxed jacket. Same as Kate Midddleton wears.
I thing Durham is one of the favourites of prince Charles, isn't?
@@OneManReviews Not sure if it is but the Durham has the features I wanted, waist draw string is very nice and helps take away the bulky look and the fixed hood.
I have the classic one since few days and I absolutely love it. The only thing that is a little bit annoying is that the jacket attract fluff.
It is always in the beginning when the wax is fresh. It will go away after some wearing.
great review, just ordered one as i'm sick of getting pissed wet through in Lancashire,
had one as a kid (not Barbour) and it stank like dead rabbits !!!
Hey Andy, have you got your new Barbour yet?
I have one. It’s great. I would say though unless the temperature is below at least 15 degrees, you’d be too hot in it.
It is a very great and versatile jacket
I prefer the Barbour Border because it doesn't have the rear zipper in the back. The Border has two supermassive inner pockets that are removable for washing. The Beaufort is a great all-around jacket for shorter individuals and it is also lighter than the Border.
Border is a great coat also. Was looking to buy it too but I've settled on two Beauforts for now.
Barbour is cool. Have a different shorter model, really like it, but it is slim, should've got one size up on that one.
You probably have a Bedale model?
Just wonder how long you have been wearing this one (classic beaufort).
Its colour seems really nice, quite different than i expect it to be on the classic one. i thought it would be a bit lighter colour.
5 or 6 years already. I’ve rewaxed it last fall.
Spring and Fall in a cold country, I happen to think it's very suitable for winter too in a mild country like the UK.
You are right. For places with mild winter, Barbour jackets could work through the winter as well.
@@OneManReviews The Ashby is ideal in the Spring or Autumn.
@@larry4789 Iguess you're right. It is a bit lighter compared to Beaufort or Bedale if I remember correctly. But to me my Beauforts are perfect for Canadian spring and fall.
It’s been a ‘mild’ minus 15 in Braemar this week… 😂
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
Thanks :)
Ciao, bel video.
(I was using Google Translate :))
Hello. l am a taller fellow. 194 cm tall & about 105 kg. I have been researching a bit today & have been leaning towards the Bedale since it has that 'bum flap' that the Beaufort doesn't have. Would there be a size that could accommodate my long-armed frame nicely? XXL size is hit & miss for me dependant upon the manufacturer it seems.
That's really hard to say. I find the Bedale fit very tricky. The best way is to try sizes at store. You may want to try the Border.
I like the jacket brother
Thanks man!
Hello; At the beginning of the video, that is, is the color on you olive color and is it the classic Beaufort model or the normal beaufort? I am 1.72 tall and 80 kilos. What size would you think would fit me in the classic Beaufort model?
The olive one is classic. I am 178 cm tall and 82 kg I have my Barbours in 36 size. You might want to try 34 if you want it slimmer.
@@OneManReviews is that C36/91cm please?
Great review! It looks like a great fit on you. What are your measurements & size for this Beaufort? I'm trying to buy one as a gift but the sizing got me confused. TIA!
Thank you! My height is 178 cm and weight is about 72-73 kg. My 2 Beaufort's both are in C36 size. Hope it helps.
@@OneManReviews Awesome! Thanks so much!
I hope u still replying, how do you wash barbour waxed jackets? I just bought one today and I just soak it with softener, am i doing it right? Thanks in advance
Well, you don't wash them. Just clean the jacket with a sponge or a brush.
Hi what is your size for Barbour classic Beaufort and bedale please ? I'm typically size medium what is the best size for me 38 or 40?
Both of my Beauforts are in 36 size and my typical size is Small, so with your Medium I would go for 38.
Shall you try it on at the store ? The sales guys would suggest for the sizes . I am 180 cm , 70 kg. They advise me to go for 38 …. Say that only lady or very skinny guy would go for 36…. It intends to have relaxed fit . if you prefer slim fit , it’s better to go for the international line than classic lines. Bear in mind, during the years, the Barbour waxed jackets shrink a bit.
Great video!
I see you wear size 36
Can i ask you how tall you are and what your chest measure?
You say that the regular is a little bit smaller.
Is it so much you have to size up,
if you are a 36 in the classic? :)
Hi there. Thank you. Glad you liked the video. My hight is 178 cm and I am about 90-92 cm in the chest. I have them both in 36 size, the difference is not that significant to go for a size up )
@@OneManReviews Thank you really much for you answer :)
Sure. No problem. I hope it helps )
I have mine for the last 5-6 years? I use it all the time.
Which one do you have?
@@OneManReviews Beaufort Classic, plus the hoodie and the polarquilt vest. 3 in 1:)
Hello , i recently baught the bedale olive ;)
Congratulations. That’s a great Barbour to have.
@@OneManReviews thank you ☺️
Thumps up
Thanks.
the zip pocket was origininally for your fishing or hunting license
Today it is a very good pocket for smartphone )
What cap are you wearing with your Beaufort?
Barbour Wax Cap
За видео однозначно лайк, за порядочного, статного ведущего однозначно лайк, и за сохранившийся русский акцент тоже лайк)
😆 спасибо
😂
I prefer the Barbour "Border" because it's longer and it's roomier. I also own a Beaufort, but I find it too short and too tight fitting.
I tried Border. Great coat but was a bit too long for me.
@@OneManReviews Well, it may have got to do with the fact that I'm not as slim as you are. The older I get I put on more weight... and then a Beaufort becomes too tight :-)
@@iansoutryer3189 I tried the smaller available Border and it still was a bit too large for me :)
The Border is massive.Mine is a large but I could get some of my other Barbours on under it.I could probably get a loaf of bread in 4 of the pockets and I'm not exaggerating.
@@larry4789 I guess you can wear a nice tweed sport coat underneath your Border jacket?
Looks Like a Lord!!!

Do these jackets make you sweat when working hard
Not sure what you mean by working hard but they do not make me sweat :)
You know working hard like farming or working out in the country or going shooting is doing them tasks likely to make you sweat as I know wax cotton is not breathable
I'm. 5ft 10 and 84kg with broad athletic frame. I have a size 42 chest and the 40 fits perfectly. I could have gone for the 38 to make it slimmer, but if I get bigger in the gym, then it renders the coat a little useless, plus I think I will only ever use this coat when I have layers on underneath and the length of the size 40 is no different to the 38.
I had this same question! I'm 5' q
10" too and usually wear a 42 jacket. I wondered how this fits, I was going to buy the 42 as that's usually what I do. But, your saying the 40 is just right?
@@AlistairHig It depends on your fit preference, but this is quite a loose fit in the first place. I personally found the 40 to be perfect. I can still layer underneath and have room to grow too. If you're similar to me in terms of weight ( I'm 13 and half stone and 5ft 10). I did a lot of research and going down a size from my actual chest size which is 42+ worked by getting a 40
@@bens1972 hi mate, hope you can help out. I’m checking out the Barbour site and the sizes go by number and I’m a 42 in chest 5’11 average athletic build. The size chart says I’m a 36 according to my 42 in chest is this correct or should I get a 40 like you mentioned? Cheers gaffa
No, don’t bother looking at the size chart. 40 should be sufficient, just remember it’s not a ‘fitted’, so this will allow plenty of room for layering.
@@bens1972 cheers mate and does that still allow you for decent layering and some good room still
Winter is not mild in New York. It's the only place in the world where you will encounter a Nor'easter (a snow hurricane) and the winters are cold.
You probably have not experienced winter in Toronto :)
I had my first Barbour Beaufort in the mid eighties. It serves for riding , canoe trips in Sweden, for making serious woodbucking and other woodcrafts as well as walking down Ku`damm in Berlin. It serves me for 14 years. What a jacket. Then it starts to fall appart- So I bought an other. The first one claimed to be made out of only the best of agyptian cotton. The second one only says to be made out of high quallity cotton. The second one only lasts me 4 years. What a pitty. So I bought a cheap one that costs me only 100 euro . that one lasts me even longer than the second Beaufort. So why should I spend 500 euro or more to for a jacket, when the company has quit to produce real quality? It realy is a shame, that barbour produces high priced jackets today that doesn`t hold what they say.
Thank you for sharing your story.
I heard that the quality is not the same these days. But I got two Beauforts about 5 years ago. I am pretty satisfied with the quality.
Nylon internal sleeves like the Ashby?!….arms sweat like being in a sauna! 🫤
Nope. Not nylon like Ashby.
@@OneManReviews ok..that’s great…so what are they made of then???!
@@Tommy-Atkins the same tartan cotton lining.
0:38 'you might get weird looks'!
Not in the U.K you won't.
Gotta travel there :)
Barbour Beaufort is a classic and doesn't need to be stylish.
The classic is stylish
Isn’t it pronounced “Bofort”
Yep. Bow-fort.
Русский?
Украинец.
The whole world wants to look like us English men
Stylewise, yes many people. Others are looking at Italian men.
It s NOT waterproof - it s weather resistant
Yes this is the more accurate term.
I have worn the beaufort jacket for 8 hours of solid heavy non stop rain while fishing and not a drop came through it. As long as its regulary waxed properly they are excellent in the rain.
