"We are not men. We are more than that. The responsibility is FAR greater. We must be better than those who came before us. And you must be better than me." Kratos
My dad bought me god of war 1 and 2 for ps2 when I was 10 and he ended up playing more than me for weeks. He helped me get through 1 on that dumb lvl with the tightrope walking over lava with spinning blades. He got me into video games while I watched him play WoW and EQ2 when I was 3. He loved the first new GOW. He was absolutely blown away by jormungander when you first meet him. He passed away on July 6th 2022. Before he could finish this game. He taught me how to be a good person, a strong man, and a kind soul. All things he fought for years to attain himself. I will miss you dad, but I WILL. BE. BETTER. ❤️
Honestly God of War Norse Saga is the best version of God of War Kratos is no longer a bloodthirsty warmonger but still kicks ass The Gods of the Norse pantheon were fleshed out as more than antagonists There's a joy in exploration and interacting with other characters
Your story and journey with your father is just like Kratos and Atreus's story. Your father was a good man and wise to teach you right and wrong. Use this song and his wisdom to do great things in life.
"Brother? What did you see in there?" "A path... One, I, could, never imagine..." This fits Kratos' journey perfectly, and is so inspiring for those of us trying to be better.
@@GameLover45408 Kratos’ take on fate though is to not let it bind you if you don’t want it to - this is something he wants but thought he’d never achieve
@@MWkillkenny84 Absolutely - as well as the game does when Kratos realises he cannot allow mindless suffering simply because he's already changed (even if he doesn't believe it about himself) rather than is still trying to change.
Can we just talk for a moment about how “Even a heart of stone” sounds tough and gravelly, but the next line “Can warm when no longer alone” sounds softer, a bit more tender, like a person who’s been deeply hurt learning to open up again? It suits Kratos so much, and Gavin’s delivery is amazing. Awesome song!
It's funny but it fits strangely well with my D&D Goliath, he's a paladin who swore an oath of vengeance after losing his family, during the campaign he saved a little orphaned Half-elf girl who he then adopted, in the end he retired as a paladin and raises her as best he can. He was really a warrior who used his anger and rage to fight, then the little girl came and opened his eyes, he no longer fights because of his rage, but for her
@@miracleofsound i swear to whatever deities are reading this you get better each time! surre some songs don't hit me as strong like this one but i can feel every ounce of passion you put intoo every song you make and that is what i love about you and have been subscribed to you since 2016
"I can choose to be better at last" For whatever reason, that line just stuck with me as the most Kratos. A man who has spent so long fighting against fate can finally choose to defy his fate on his own terms
Absolutely, he has finally gained control and mastery of the fury that once ruled him allowing him to fight 'fate' on his own terms as who he truly is.
Impressive song. I turned 29 today. After many years struggling with depression, anxiety, psychological traumas, dissapointments and self-destructive habbits, I feel I can start a new and better chapter in my life.
What a great sequel to the previous god of war song! Even in the music keeps the stern drive while sounding more controlled and at peace. And the lyrics mirror the fury and pain of the last song even without being a direct callback 10/10
As a father and a poor bastard that's dealt with a lot of crap, you've brought me to tears. "We can be better" is something I stand for, even when my brain is broken . I love this, thanks
Is it too much to say that I learned that playing this song for my daughter. I thought I needed to meet every challenge with a vengeance. All so my family knows, I may not be a god, there is nothing I won't stand against for them. That path has allowed me to stray from them. Instead of fighting for them, I ended up fighting them with the same level of intensity I would someone trying to kill me. I don't have a choice. If I keep fighting every battle for everyone, I will lose myself. I must be better. It's not easy. I'm fighting a similar battle. I hope you're still winning yours...
@@jeremyr1233 I feel that. You need to pick the battles but I'm guessing you've been through a lot of hell, as did I. It's not an easy adjustment. That said, we may be flawed but our kids look at us like an unstoppable force when it comes to protecting them. It's definitely not too much to say what you did. I still wake up middle of the night ready to shield mine
this song not only fits kratos and the story of ragnarok beautifully but can also hit personally for those who watch it. always good to strive to be better and walk that long endless road no matter what you've gone through. if someone once considered a monster and god killer could? we can too. thank you Gav for a glorious song once again
You said it really well man. I know the song definitely speaks for me, I've done some truly horrible things in my life that I'll never be able to forget about, but at least I can use the memory of those actions to help guide myself in the right direction.
On the one hand the song does resonate with that idea: Kratos has done terrible things. On the other hand, part of me says the Olympians kind of asked for it, and deserved it. They're generally depicted as messing with mortals for their own amusement, raping women, and ruining peoples' lives for slights real and imagined. Sure Kratos is an angry selfish git in the second and third main games, but I feel there's this idea that, since the guy to snap and declare war on the gods is a bad person, that makes the gods something humanity had to grin and bear. It feels like a message of defeatism; that the gods will always mess with people and there is no way to redress the balance of power, indeed, that to try to do so is not just farfetched, but sort of immoral in a might makes right sort of way. Was Kratos a good person in Greece? No, but the Olympians weren't far behind him, and I hope God of War 4 and Ragnarok don't just default to "Don't question the gods, cause they're indispensable." I hope the theme of hope carries to more than Kratos, as the rest of the humans have to deal with the temper tantrums of the Aesir. Then again, I don't know Norse mythology as well as Greek, so I may be missing something.
Kratos always had the potential in him to be better, and he proves how good a man he is at his core by the standards he holds himself to that he refuses to accept he's changed long after we see that he's not even close to the man/god he was in Greece - the Greek Kratos would never have accepted being insulted never mind physically slapped by Baldur, while the Norse Kratos only reluctantly pushes back before intending to send Baldur on his way.
As a young man who has overcame both alcohol and a codeine addiction within the last 16 months , who is now getting married this year and is a father to a beautiful 1 year old son. This song strikes every emotiomal chord i believe possible. You are an amazing musician. Go raibh maith agat mo chara ❤🇮🇪
I love this song for so many reasons. It shows kratos’ development and how he wants to be a new man, but how he also has to hold back his rage “Keep the beast deep within, always under the skin”, and the references “In this winter of woe” an obvious one to Ode to Fury and “Break the hard chains of fate” is possibly talking about the blade of chaos and how he wants to forget his time in Greece. The song is just so incredibly well made and shows how much you loved this game and it’s story. Thank you for making this, I’m going to listen to nothing else for the rest of the day now.
Really shows how different a place Kratos is in this song than in Ode to Fury. All throughout Ode to Fury: "The fury, it never leaves me..." First verse here: "Cast the fury into the past, I can choose to be better at last."
I feel like it fits perfectly with the evident character development he's undergone between the two Norse games, he doesn't believe he has changed (because he can't believe that about himself as he despises who he was in Greece so utterly) but he has - he can't allow the suffering of innocents to stand regardless of if it impacts his quest vs the old Kratos who'd happily cause it to advance his goals.
Kratos and Thor in conversation: Don't you know what I've done? I have no where left to run/ To destroy is my only way/ I am far from my land/ Where even graves do not stand/ Brought to ruin by mine own hand/ To my hand leaps my sin/ Sparks to life, once again/ Bear the giant's great guilt/ For all the blood that I've spilt/ How could you ever understand? Nothing left but a blood-soaked man. For a lifetime I raged/ Only sins were my wage/ Spilled the blood of my kin/ Unyielding stains on my skin/ We must choose to be better for them/ You must be better for the one my son calls friend.
"In the arms of the Father, scars of the past concealed" "Lock up the rage it rattles the cage, the Fury it never leaves me" "Leave the hurt behind, we can choose to be better" I love how the messages carry on, its like the first two songs were about how Kratos is still tormented, and in this one he's freed himself from it all. Also fits with his character development, from the God of War aka the Phantom of Chaos and now he's the God of Peace and the Emboidment of Hope.
It fits his journey beautifully, especially with Be Better mirroring his late GoWR discovery he's already changed from who he thought he could never escape being into someone who can't stand to allow the collateral he'd have previously never even considered - not because it might hurt him but because he cannot allow it because it's wrong.
"Son, listen closely. You feel their pain because that is who you are. And you must never sacrifice that. Never. Not for anyone. I was wrong, Atreus. I was wrong. Open your heart to their suffering. Open your heart. That is your mother's wish. And mine as well. Today... we will be better.' 'We will stop Odin. But we did not come to sacrifice the innocent. It may be suicide, but we will die seeking justice, not vengeance." Kratos, (future) Allfather and God of Peace.
I'm not a gamer, but these songs are so well written I feel I can still connect with the stories and characters. This is one of my favorites from this year-- great job!
“In this winter of woe Seeds of hope they still grow From contempt I have turned Now I’m just trying to learn” Powerful lyrics from a beautiful song. Thank you Gavin for this gift.
To @miracleofsound Since covid, my life fall apart and I allowed myself fall into depression and lived a life of chaos. Luckly I came across two mentors that became the guidences I need to rebuild my life in the past few months. Personally this year is the year of betterment and rebuild, and I litaraly cried in joy after found this masterpiece and listened it for over 63 minuties. I want to express my deepest thanks to you and believe me, you cannot imagine the impact your works have on me. Thank you
Phew, this song hit hard, both in perspective of the game, as well as personally. I used to be a really hateful person in the past, and sometimes that side of me tries to claw it's way to the surface. But surface it never shall, because like Kratos, I have chosen to be better. Thank you a million times for this song, Gav.
Ode to Fury was immediately one of my favourites among your work, I'm so happy you not only made a sequel, but a sequel that follows it up so beautifully
The lyrics "Leave the hurt behind, tearing the threads of the tethers" ring with me so much, especially with my history of past pains, backstabbers, and the sole person that's the reason for my PTSD. I'm trying to be better, to let go of the years of pain and restrained anger I've endured. I'm a 22 year-old young woman who's far more jaded than she should be. Thank you, Gav, for penning both this and Ode to Fury. It's a testament to your wordsmithing talents. To many more years of lyrical masterpieces that ring to real-life experiences as well as the original mediums. Bravo!
I thought Ode to Fury was a song I can relate to and call it the theme song of my life, but this one, is so much better, Ode to Fury is amazing but To Be Better is a masterpiece, I didn't think there would be a song in the world that I can relate to, but this one connects with my life so much, it made me cry with how emotional it made me. Truly my favorite song by Miracle of Sound hands down. I don't think it can ever be topped. A song that I can relate to with all the hardships and struggle I fought through, something that can easily explain my mental and emotional state. It means so much to me, to have a song that I can call the theme song to this show I call life. I love God of War and the Norse Era is my favorite era, as I adore Norse mythology. You did the game, franchise, and most importantly the character justice. If Kratos was a real person, he would feel honored by the song you wrote. Thank you Miracle of Sound, for the most impactful song I've ever heard in my whole life. Truly a masterpiece, and one I will eternally adore.
And yep, that's going on the repeat loop for the next week. I was trying to think of something more profound to say about this song, something more deserving of its grandeur... But nah, this is just fucking EXCELLENT. What more can I say? The low rumble of the vocals; the tempo that sounds like it wants to let loose but can just barely manage to contain itself; the universal theme of moving forward. I love this. Many have already spoken about how this song speaks to them and I will freely join in on that train. Thank you again for a spectacular display of musical genius yet again, Gav. Hats off to you.
I'm not really into God of War, but Ode to Fury has always been one of my favourite (and in my opinion one of the most criminally underrated in terms of people talking about it) MoS songs, and this song feels like such a great follow up to that. Thanks Gav :)
You'll be glad to know then that in terms of views/plays, Ode To Fury is my third most popular song ever, after Valhalla Calling and Wake The White Wolf :)
@@miracleofsound yeah I double checked after saying that which is why I edited it to say "in terms of people discussing it" cause I didn't wanna look pretentious ha ha
You know that moment when you find an awesome song and immediately know you’re gonna be listening to it on loop for the next week straight? Yeah, that’s what I’m experiencing right now. Thanks for another banger, Gavin!!
Gav, I’ve read a lot of the comments on this video and seen how you talk about your expressing your own internal struggle through your music. I wanted to let you know(even though I don’t know you) that I’m proud of you, you use one of the most valuable tools to express your emotions and struggles and not only does it help you but it helps everyone else too. We all listen and hear our own story in your words and this is why I love you as in artist, you don’t write just to make noise, you write with a purpose, to show your colors and encourage others. Thanks for this amazing and heavenly track, every one is better than the last, keep it up!
What I really appreciate about this new take on Kratos in the rebooted series is how powerful it is that the team took one of the most schlocky edgelord games franchises in the world and turned it into a really heartfelt examination of cyclical trauma, redemption, and fatherhood. The games themselves are proof that you can grow up. You can let go of your pride and your anger and your toxicity. You just have to want to be better and let people in.
To be fair Kratos' journey in Greece was a classic tragedy, He became a monster but it wasn't strictly his fault - man was pushed to the brink again and again. Betrayed by gods again and again. Denied even peace of death. He had no one to trust and those he did trust like Orcus or Last Spartan had to die by his hand in a cruel twist of fates (Heck, Kratos in GoW: Ragnarok mentions how Fates compared to Norns had way more power over others and way more cruel). And then Athena ended up just another manipulator. Remember that originally all Kratos wanted from gods... Is to remove his Nightmares. Not a revenge. Not killing Ares. Just allowing him to forget all the pain and trauma. You can say Kratos basically was tortured into becoming a Perfect Warrior for Ares frist... And Perfect Monster for Athena not soon after. Of course Kratos recovered in Midgard - his life here is basically a vacation compared to constant mental torture he endured in Greece.
@@Ghostel3591 to be fair ares did grant kratos wish he made him forget murdering his family. only for kratos to resent him for it and break his curse to remember ares turned out to be the one god that DID care for him. but kratos is kratos and he kills for fun
@@alwaysonyourtail2563 it was more like Ares saw that his plan backfired... Tried to use Oath to stabilise Kratos... Orkos seeing how unfair what happened and how Ares tries just to swipe it under the rug - HELPS KRATOS (w/o him he would've never broke illusions). And then Kratos once he finds out the truth... Understands that this knowledge will not bring him peace of mind... Only new nightmares and THEN asks for a mind bleach from gods (while keeping his freedom from Oath btw). Basically first time Kratos didn't refuse brain bleach - Orkos just intervened from it being poured on his brain and helped man to sober up.
Words have described my feelings well, Given hope long gone. Discreet were your words, But a message was given, I awaited prolong, Here is how I feel, Hope truly diminished, And yet to be better, Is yet to be accomplished, The fight may have ended in victory, But I have lost, it took it's tol'd, And now you give me a spark of hope, For a life promised, and now foretold, Thank you for these kind words o' miracle of sound.
I've been subscribed to your channel for 8 years and I have never once regretted it. Every song is better than the last and every one has meaning. Compared to the soulless work of industry artists, your independence has made you the best version of yourself and your art. Keep going man!
Thank you so much! For almost ten months of this god damn war it`s been too hard to keep my mind in peace. But I always tried to believe in our inner strength and ability to stay human. God of War helped a lot. Yes, it`s a computer game, but it speaks to us. Kratos is one of my most favorite characters and his development and growth is so inspiring. And this song is a real magic! You made this whole story better. Sorry for my poor English, but I wanted to thank you! You`re a magician!
"What kind of God is that Kratos? in your lifetime has anyone ever worshiped you? can you even imagine that kind of love?" " A path... One, I never thought possible "
Being a 34 year old guy, my love for Kratos was huge when the 3 main games was finished. But the last two hit different, being both older and seeing things in a different way than I did as young boy. Seeing Kratos struggle with the father role and everything else that came his way, the bond between Kratos and his son developing hit me hard. Though sad the journey is done, the character development was outstanding. Laughing while I destroyed gods and titans in the start, to shedding tears for the God of War trying to be a reasonable parent as he can be, despite his difficult past and traumas. Thank you for all the awesome music that you created these years, you truly makes me see the games even brighter and better with such good music and lyrics. Cheers from an old Norse.
Definitely my favorite of your 2022 work. What a wonderful way to end the year with a touching, sorrowful but hopeful song. Made me cry multiple times while listening on repeat.
As someone who got himself in trouble and had to earn his kids back, and still have to constantly struggle to be patient and kind, this song makes me cry. Kratos went from a release to a role model. Thank goodness for the games and this song.
This is such a great song! Once again, Gav raises his own personal bar that much higher. Thank you for a great 2022 and here's to another great year of music in 2023!
The last two games, and the series as a whole really, depict the emotional journey of men, the anger and feeling of invulnerability of youth, blaming our problems on others, then accepting we are the ones who make mistakes, realizing we were wrong, and finally correcting ourselves and allowing our rage only when necessary and in a controlled manner. Love the games, love the songs, great work on the music.
As usual, a great song for a great game. In particular, I really love these three lines (spoilers for the game): "Keep the beast deep within, Always under the skin, Let it claw through the mirror's glass," Not only are the first two great references to Ode to Fury and A Father's Arms, but that last line highlights something really neat in Ragnarok. Thor's destructiveness is held up constantly as a mirror to Kratos. He's a what-if, an example of what Kratos could be like if he never left the service of Olympus. So saying "let it claw through the mirror's glass" is a stellar way to talk about how Kratos sees what he could have become, why it was so important to change, and why he tries to get Thor to change. But it also references Freya, and how she acknowledges some part of her will always be angry with Kratos, even as she accepts she doesn't want to kill him. Well done as always, Gav.
I'm going through a rough transitional period in my life right now after a divorce, and this song speaks to me through the common thread of dealing with grief that the characters are also going through. Fucking brilliant Gav!
This song touches millions, these lyrics, beat, frequencies along side with your voice. I feel like the gods themselves are speaking to me. Words cannot express how much I love and truly appreciate your time, efforts and energy creating this song!!! Powerful lyrics and I thank you on behalf of everyone. May you live well, long and prosper a full and rich life!!!
This song is the summary of 5 God of War's games. Thank you. You really went deep into the message and it gave me the same feeling when I finished the game: we finally chose to be better.
This is exactly what I needed in my development as a person, and at the exact moment when I felt the most lost... You've done an amazing thing not just for me, but so many people who have listened to this song, and who will listen to it for years to come ❤❤❤ Here's to many more years of my favorite musician, Miracle of Sound 🔥🔥🔥
After playing the previous games this song hits harder, after everything he's done, all the destruction he caused, after everyone he has killed and all the pain he has inflicted he finally found his redemption. And what's interesting is the lyrics " leave the hurt behind, we can choose to be better" those lyrics showed sindri, fraye, and kratos. Sindri has changed due to the anger of Broks death, fraye grieved and sought vengeance against kratos and kratos with himself. They chose to leave the hurt behind and chose to be better.
@@jonevarty2205 it hurt to see him like that. Especially when he said" I gave you everything, my home, my secrets, my treasures, and now what have I got? Not even my family" jeez that broke my heart.
@@jonevarty2205 Yes and no, remember the timeframe! You see him freshly mourning, still processing everything and then you see him at this brother's funeral. There's nothing but pain for him. Yes, he lashes out and becomes rude. But he's going through a lot and the wound is fresh to the point that the knife is still basically inside him. He needs time to heal and not the few short hours the game's story shows.
@@MagicalMaster I agree. Probably in the next game, he will have an arc like with Freya. Also, imagine a game where instead of playing the hero (the farm boy chosen to save the kingdom), you play as the mentor-- training and teaching the hero from right and wrong and being with them through every step of the way. That is how I imagine Kratos in the next game, being a badass and helping people around him grow
I heard recently that the villain and the hero have the story save one thing. The villain says, “The world hurt me so I will hurt it back.” The hero says, “The world hurt me so I’m going to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.” Kratos embodies both. He was hurt by the gods so he chose to hurt them back. But it didn’t make things better. It only changed him for the worse. Then, his experiences in the past two games showed him that choosing to make things better for others made things better for himself. Thus, he ensured that Atreus has an example of how one can choose to be better. An example he can show to others and harvest a better future.
It's amazing that Gav's music can strike such an emotional chord even when the audience isn't familiar with the game that inspired it. I've never played GoW, but this and Ode to Fury are some of my favorite MoS songs. Really speaks to this man's talent.
Why does everything related to this game make me cry??! Where are the goddamn onion ninjas!? In all seriousness, one of the best songs of heard from you and I listen to anything you produce. You help illustrate the optimism that Kratos had to be better. To learn and to move on from the past. That’s a lesson everyone can learn no matter the age.
I lost my father on 5/12/22...since, I've looked at my three boys and tried, repeatedly, to put it all together - What I needed to do. For them, for my wife, for me...this song says it all. Thank you, gaming - You've always had the answer.
the fact that even Kratos can learn to get past his trauma and anger and grow is amazing and makes me think that we'll one day see Kratos without the ashes on his skin anymore.
@@miracleofsound You did a banger job, Gav. I would recommend The God Father from Danbull to listen as well. GoW Ragnarok story brings out the truth self in many
I haven't played the games myself, though I plan too, I do know enough about the story. I feel it and I feel this song. And while I do struggle with trauma and anger, these songs remind me of my father more than myself. All his life his anger has overwhelmed him and everyone else. Sure, he kept a lid on it for a long time. But now, I'm seeing him do something I never thought I'd see. He's finding peace. He's confronting his rage, not just burying it. This song is one of my favorites and his. Thank you, Gavin. You do good work.
My god ,had goosebumps the entire time. The lyrics fit so damn perfectly it show how much Kratos has grown,he no longer relays on fury and hate,he is no longer being ashamed of himself. Congratulations on another masterpiece Gavin ! Its time to spam that replay button into oblivion
I like that the last image is Kratos and Atreus embracing. I haven't played Ragnarok, but it seems to point to Kratos opening up more for his son, and learning to show emotions in a healthier way than in the first three God of War games.
Just beat the game and IMMEDIATELY came here to listen to this... this is such a PERFECT translation of the game's message... the past is the past, but we can always choose to be better. Thanks a million for all the music you make! It's some of my favorite music out there and this song will be playing on repeat for a long time for me 😀👍
Fun fact, the Vikings didn't believe fate was set in stone. They believed that there were many possible outcomes, and that your actions would effect your fate. I just thought that fun fact was fitting for the song.
I love the delivery of "I can choose to be better at last". Like Kratos has always known that the path he was traveling wasn't the good one, but he felt like he didn't have a choice, and now his work is finally done and he can finally chose the path he always ment to travel.
Absolutely - I feel like the glimpses of who he could always have been were glimpsed back in Greece but it's only in the Norse Realms that we fully see the true man beneath all the pain and rage that once ruled him, and it is a noble one who arguably doesn't think he has a choice but to do the right thing.
I love this song. I listen to it to remind me that I've grown. I used to be in a terrible highschool with fights daily. Had to learn how to fight to stop bullying and get good at it to defend friends. Now I'm in college and it's hard to shake off the natural instincts whenever I hear a crowd but I now have a friend group and professors who remind me I can relax and focus on something other than survival. Thank you guys for this banger!
I am not a gamer and know very little about Viking/Norse etc. But the songs and music are special. Way deeper than the shallow verses of pop and rap music. Seeds of Hope do grow.
Just amazing. Ode to fury is the song that my doughter sings to me every morning when i take her to kindergarden, now we have a sequal to sing along.. Thank you for this! Keep up making world a better place!

This... Is... A... Masterpiece! And as the song states this world and all within it that call it home, We Can Choose To Be Better. We can choose to be better for those who come after us. When we no longer walk this world, hopefully those children can pass this message along and be better for their own kin and fellow man.
I have cried at least ten times over this song and currently have it on repeat. I dont know why i slept so long on this song. Your songs are so amazing, and i always appreciate the call backs to your previous songs.
The story of Kratos is amazing taken in its entirety, and I love the dedication the writers put to closing his story with real growth, not just tragedy
I am convinced that Gavin is actually Grimnir, in the way that every single song he makes is the single most entrancing thing I've ever heard. Love it big guy, keep it up!
I listened to this before playing the game and thought it was an amazing song. Now having finished it ... well, bugger my bumblebees breadbin this is just on another level entirely

"One I could never imagine"
I do like it but kinda...how should I say, render the whole fate is not a thing or something that the game story writers were doing.
@@GameLover45408 Kratos’ take on fate though is to not let it bind you if you don’t want it to - this is something he wants but thought he’d never achieve
@@MLaak86 yes
@@GameLover45408 I think the hidden prophecy was left by Faye to show Kratos would he could be, not what he will be for certain.
Just finished this game, what a blast. This song does Kratos honor
No better fit for the god of war and best dad of war lol
Good for you
I cant afford it iam broke rn 😕
It also sums up how much Kratos has matured from his bloodthirsty berserker days.
@@MWkillkenny84 to be honest, I preferred the bloodthirsty Kratos.
A stone heart doesn't have to be a cold one, if it's banked by warm hearth fire.
@@oceanberserker no indeed, that same stone can then hold warmth a long time, and radiate it to warm others.
@@LPTheGas Just so, brother. Just so.
It's funny but it fits strangely well with my D&D Goliath, he's a paladin who swore an oath of vengeance after losing his family, during the campaign he saved a little orphaned Half-elf girl who he then adopted, in the end he retired as a paladin and raises her as best he can.
He was really a warrior who used his anger and rage to fight, then the little girl came and opened his eyes, he no longer fights because of his rage, but for her
For me, this song reminds me greatly of the Dwarves' song from the Hobbit.

Absolutely, he has finally gained control and mastery of the fury that once ruled him allowing him to fight 'fate' on his own terms as who he truly is.

@@FunnyRedemption I have my bad days but yeah, I'm doin good. Thanks for asking
Yep. It's a very personal song for me, just like its predecessor was :)
As someone who struggle with anger both songs are extremely relatable
Kratos always had the potential in him to be better, and he proves how good a man he is at his core by the standards he holds himself to that he refuses to accept he's changed long after we see that he's not even close to the man/god he was in Greece - the Greek Kratos would never have accepted being insulted never mind physically slapped by Baldur, while the Norse Kratos only reluctantly pushes back before intending to send Baldur on his way.
"Even a heart of stone can warm when no longer alone"
My favorite line from the song
As a young man who has overcame both alcohol and a codeine addiction within the last 16 months , who is now getting married this year and is a father to a beautiful 1 year old son.

The background chorus (most audible at 1:03) is also a callback.
Really shows how different a place Kratos is in this song than in Ode to Fury.
All throughout Ode to Fury: "The fury, it never leaves me..."
First verse here: "Cast the fury into the past, I can choose to be better at last."
@@yetanother9127 that’s insane, how did you notice that?
I feel like it fits perfectly with the evident character development he's undergone between the two Norse games, he doesn't believe he has changed (because he can't believe that about himself as he despises who he was in Greece so utterly) but he has - he can't allow the suffering of innocents to stand regardless of if it impacts his quest vs the old Kratos who'd happily cause it to advance his goals.
Gavin just casually dropping the biggest banger of 2022 and exiting stage-left.
Aaah shtop 😊
how do you get your voice so damn deep?
As someone who recently started therapy, this song is an absolute masterpiece that hits in just the right places.
Kratos and Thor in conversation:
Don't you know what I've done?
I have no where left to run/
To destroy is my only way/
I am far from my land/
Where even graves do not stand/
Brought to ruin by mine own hand/
To my hand leaps my sin/
Sparks to life, once again/
Bear the giant's great guilt/
For all the blood that I've spilt/
How could you ever understand?
Nothing left but a blood-soaked man.
For a lifetime I raged/
Only sins were my wage/
Spilled the blood of my kin/
Unyielding stains on my skin/
We must choose to be better for them/
You must be better for the one my son calls friend.
Well said.
"In the arms of the Father, scars of the past concealed"
"Lock up the rage it rattles the cage, the Fury it never leaves me"
"Leave the hurt behind, we can choose to be better"
I love how the messages carry on, its like the first two songs were about how Kratos is still tormented, and in this one he's freed himself from it all.
Also the line of "From Contempt I have turned, Now I'm just trying to learn." Such a fantastic message.
"Son, listen closely. You feel their pain because that is who you are. And you must never sacrifice that. Never. Not for anyone. I was wrong, Atreus. I was wrong. Open your heart to their suffering. Open your heart. That is your mother's wish. And mine as well. Today... we will be better.'
'We will stop Odin. But we did not come to sacrifice the innocent. It may be suicide, but we will die seeking justice, not vengeance."

Me too. Anger is a difficult emotion to quell.

Survive, stand. Then write a modern God of War, you know the tales of your home, and the deserve to be told.
“Leave the hurt behind, we can choose to be better” that part hits hard.
Really shows how far Kratos has come as a individual; an angry man, a vengeful god/demigod, an overprotective father and finally, a supportive father.
"What kind of God is that Kratos? in your lifetime has anyone ever worshiped you? can you even imagine that kind of love?"
" A path... One, I never thought possible "
I wish I could like this several times. It's become one of my go-to songs.

At first I said my friends that Ode to Fury is a little more deeper. Now I can't stop listening to 'To be better'. Thank you Gavin.
Miracle of sound is so damn underrated .. music is like a drug
As usual, a great song for a great game. In particular, I really love these three lines (spoilers for the game):
"Keep the beast deep within,
Always under the skin,
Let it claw through the mirror's glass,"
Not only are the first two great references to Ode to Fury and A Father's Arms, but that last line highlights something really neat in Ragnarok.

This song is the summary of 5 God of War's games. Thank you. You really went deep into the message and it gave me the same feeling when I finished the game: we finally chose to be better.

You've done an amazing thing not just for me, but so many people who have listened to this song, and who will listen to it for years to come ❤❤❤
Here's to many more years of my favorite musician, Miracle of Sound 🔥🔥🔥
A song I think everyone should listen to. We've all had regrets and the desire to be better then we used to be, and this song perfectly captures that
After playing the previous games this song hits harder, after everything he's done, all the destruction he caused, after everyone he has killed and all the pain he has inflicted he finally found his redemption.
Except Sindri. He still has hate in his heart and it's really sad. It will take time for him to be free from his anger

The villain says, “The world hurt me so I will hurt it back.”
The hero says, “The world hurt me so I’m going to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
Kratos embodies both.
Yes, The Villain Lets the pain control Him
The Hero controls the pain and chooses to be better.
It's amazing that Gav's music can strike such an emotional chord even when the audience isn't familiar with the game that inspired it. I've never played GoW, but this and Ode to Fury are some of my favorite MoS songs. Really speaks to this man's talent.
That's deliberate and I'm always glad to hear it works :)
Why does everything related to this game make me cry??! Where are the goddamn onion ninjas!?
In all seriousness, one of the best songs of heard from you and I listen to anything you produce. You help illustrate the optimism that Kratos had to be better. To learn and to move on from the past. That’s a lesson everyone can learn no matter the age.
already singing this like iv been listening to it forever i love it
I lost my father on 5/12/22...since, I've looked at my three boys and tried, repeatedly, to put it all together - What I needed to do. For them, for my wife, for me...this song says it all. Thank you, gaming - You've always had the answer.
The song literally says you can choose to be better, but I really don't know how it can get better than this. This is fantastic
the fact that even Kratos can learn to get past his trauma and anger and grow is amazing and makes me think that we'll one day see Kratos without the ashes on his skin anymore.
First verse, he sings about Kratos
Second verse, He sings about Atreus
Mixed in between, he sings about Freya

My god ,had goosebumps the entire time. The lyrics fit so damn perfectly it show how much Kratos has grown,he no longer relays on fury and hate,he is no longer being ashamed of himself. Congratulations on another masterpiece Gavin !
Its time to spam that replay button into oblivion
I like that the last image is Kratos and Atreus embracing. I haven't played Ragnarok, but it seems to point to Kratos opening up more for his son, and learning to show emotions in a healthier way than in the first three God of War games.
the way you captured the spirit of this story, the journey of the charaters, it simply tugs at the heart
And for my mind thank you this.. means a lot.
That's why the Norn who represents the future is named She Who is Becoming, not She Who Will Be.
The norns are said to thread the line of your life as your life unfolds. The game actually sticks true to this with its portrayal of the norns.
This song single handily got me through an awful breakup,
Miracle of sound is too good for this world-❤
I love the delivery of "I can choose to be better at last". Like Kratos has always known that the path he was traveling wasn't the good one, but he felt like he didn't have a choice, and now his work is finally done and he can finally chose the path he always ment to travel.
Perfectly made for kratos, can inspire many others as well.
Just discovered this song and Ode To Fury, they definitely describe the emotional journey I am enduring. Thank you Miracle of Sound :)
I am not a gamer and know very little about Viking/Norse etc. But the songs and music are special. Way deeper than the shallow verses of pop and rap music. Seeds of Hope do grow.
Not all rap and pop is the same
You’ve given me the anthem to keep going and do better after I’ve failed my semester and gone through heartbreak. Thank you Gavin
Well said. Another masterpiece. You never fail us Gavin.
This back to back with ode to fury is the perfect musical journey for Kratos' arc
I love the lyrics!! When i listen to"We can choose to be better" my heart burns 🔥🔥
Thank you Gav!! I love this song
Just amazing.
Ode to fury is the song that my doughter sings to me every morning when i take her to kindergarden, now we have a sequal to sing along..
Thank you for this!
Keep up making world a better place!
What a song to end thee year, and an awesome song to get lost in the snow.
Great song overall, and keep making amazing music.
Thank you!
Шикарно, как и всегда. Слушаю Гэва с 2011 года и за это время ни разу не разочаровалась в его творчестве. Спасибо, о Великий! (А песня классная, уже 100500-й раз на повторе)
Slava Ukraini
Absolutely beautiful. Hits the soul to want to be better than a creature of hate and wrath.
This one of those songs that I could listen to for hours and not get tired of it, great job man.
to respect and respond
to add strength to our bond
sooo true
This... Is...
Your songs are so amazing, and i always appreciate the call backs to your previous songs.
yes bro
The story of Kratos is amazing taken in its entirety, and I love the dedication the writers put to closing his story with real growth, not just tragedy
I am convinced that Gavin is actually Grimnir, in the way that every single song he makes is the single most entrancing thing I've ever heard. Love it big guy, keep it up!
This is my son's favorite. It makes me cry.
I listened to this before playing the game and thought it was an amazing song. Now having finished it ... well, bugger my bumblebees breadbin this is just on another level entirely
This is exactly what I needed in my life.
Thank you.
