I'm a new player, tried out cpl because I learned about it from this channel. It's been a pretty horrible experience tbh. I've had to get a different update 3 days in a row to play, first day it was beta, next day pre beta patch, today new patch. It's rough enough being in a lobby with a bunch of players who have 1000's of hours on me, but what makes it even worse is when you're playing an FFA game and then two players plan out a massive team assault on you and you get rolled. Then they tell you how bad you are while they kill you, which goes on for at least 30 minutes. Unfortunately when this happens to some players, they are very sore losers, and I have to listen to them whine nonstop for over an hour as they die. It's a pretty salty/toxic environment imo. Yesterday, it took almost 2hours just to get a game going. Most of the cpl hosts/staff have been helpful and polite, I think very highly of them. I couldn't imagine dealing with this community for as long as they have. The players just ruin the whole experience. Literally every game was just experienced players teaming up in ffa and targeting newer players. Unfortunately, in the midst of this massive patch, nobody is even sure of "what's good" now, so even the people who want to help new players really can't because they aren't sure whats good advice. Another thing thats really rough for a new player, is getting 4 random civs to pick from. 2 out of 3 games I'm playing a civ I've never touched, against people who understand every civ in the lobby. I want to learn and get better, but it's kind of soul crushing to try and do it in this environment.
At least you had a fun host, imagine the host gets whiny in a novice game because we don't know wtf we are doing and complains about the rules (that he later breaks)
Yes there are plenty of power hungry insecure people there ruining experience. And match making time often makes it not worth. If you are very new try in-between communities or just pub moded lobbies.
This reply is honestly why I don't want to get into CPL or any competitive Civ VI stuff, despite loving the game and enjoying Herson's vids. I hate min-maxing, I hate toxicity, and I just want to have a fun time in a video game. It doesn't feel like CPL can offer that.

Meanwhile the holy site is still in the ancient era and doesn’t cost more. It might not affect it by much but commercial hubs and harbours might unlock a turn or two later which is quite big.
Given the nerfs to Magnus internals and Pericles’s buffs, does this mean the new Pericles strategy is Armani trade routes+ ancient rituals and blood sacrifice to the Civ gods to try and get Kumasi to spawn in the game ?
Short note: if you filter the science tree for both production and improvements you find out exactly where smart materials is. Its the one tagged by prod but not vy improvement
I'm no expert on multiplayer, but I think Magnus will never fall into obscurity as long as he can pump out settlers without pop penalty. TBH, I was baffled by Provisions being even stronger than in base game when I tried out BBG for the firs time.
With the Magnificence story you forgot to mention that it was on Rich Highlands (so many luxes), and FDLV just didn't go griefing Magnificence (their own mistake), and somehow instead of admitting their own mistake they figured that it's better to force a change on everyone for a leader that only had a gimmick which needed all the stars to align to work.
You missed the new Victor R1 promo: +25% military production in the city. Do you think that will end up having any impact on early war or does spending the two promos on Victor still slow you down too much?
Regarding the change to seondeok losing production after feudalism, the C patch makes it so only cities FOUNDED after feudalism has the nerf, and it looks like it no longer applies to cities founded before the civic is unlocked.
I get the feeling that the designers focused to give variation on the main strategies (internal trade route applied to many Governor) than introducing more alternative strategy. Even if Liang's change counters my claim, though. But I get it: it takes more try and effort up to come up with new ideas, while risking a huge backlash from the community if the change is either lame, overpowered or both. For example, rewarding early war better by giving Viktor the ability to fix and improve conquered cities better than somewhat latey-warry and turtling. Him being able to buy Walls with Gold on conquered cities might be a little too OP though. Or Amani having a real theme around putting spokes in leading players wheels, like with Spy works, the ability to culture bomb or being a propagandist with some Loyalty pressure to neighbors, or more.

A thought about victoria age of steam, I agree with it being cool that dockyards add a major adj bonus to industrial zones, but I feel like it would be nice of ind zone buildings also reached 2 tiles further if next to a dockyard (on a coast only if too strong on lakes in middle of large lands) to compensste for potential prod. losses in new inland cities that might not get the production otherwise due to new positioning priorities for the Ind Zone district - thoughts?
It looks like the seondeok malus applies to cities you found without a governor after you unlock feudalism - not to cities without a governor in general.
isnt the science gate increase a big nerf to civs like england and dido who want to rush their harbors in the ancient era, and they dont get a compensation buff?
As a mali player in singleplayer I really hope it turns out okay or I can find a fun religion/economic/culture civ to replace them. Haven't. Played BBG yet so I'll take suggestions

Many ranked lobbies in CPL are already being played with the beta version of BBG, actually. Competitive leagues like CWC (Civ World Cup) are waiting for the new version of BBG to exit the beta, though, which could take a while.
The great scientist Alan Turing can be used to unlock the computers technology without any of its prerequisites in BBG, and the importance of flight & radio for culture victories is rather overblown. Many CV gameplans don't rely on either of those techs
Wow someone really hates Seondeok on the BBG team. Limiting her to 6 cities in defiance of the meta should come with massive bonuses to those cities. +1 amenity and some science on campus buildings is laughable as a tall bonus. This is not a malus, this is malice.
In CPL it is because an endgame turn around in very rare. Games end so fast they’re conceded. By slowing the pace and giving advantage to players behind will cause more interesting games.

@@TurboJohn the point of this change is not to make the game be longer if terms of playtime (although that is affected too), but to allow for pushes before tanks to be more viable. A player who rushes industrialization might be punished more easily by a player who rushes cuirassiers (maybe, as herson mentioned in the video). The aim of the change is probably to give these medieval, renaissance and industrial timings more breathing room.
Trash patch. Go reina 3 1st, build GP in 2nd city for pingala, or go amani 2nd, 100 culture turn 50 0 Theatrals. Use magnus for frontier expansion with right promotion.

Poland is a religion/economic/culture civ so it's probably the closest thing to Mali, and the Winger Hussar is very fun
