Absolutely loved the GoPro debut = many thanks for being brave enough to wear it. Everyone else are so busy doing their own thing to notice or as strangers may give a fleeting glance but us your viewers, really enjoy being a 'fly on the wall' and hearing and seeing you in action.
Thank you. I had no clue if it would work out as I can’t see the screen on it when it’s strapped to my chest to know if it’s even filming the right angle! I guess the more I practice the better I’ll get and more comfortable I’ll be!
Wonderful job Mel. Loved how you shared the book with the woman verses just taking it. That shows me you are a straight shooter and someone worth buying from.
What an amazing book fair. I would be there from open to close. I LOVE books I would probably live in a library if I could. I am overwhelmed just watching your video but wish I could be there!!! Thanks so much for showing this spectacular book fair!
I'm sure you probably know this, but the lock icon next to the sold and completed listings... if you touch that.. you can save yourself a step of having to repeat that process everytime you wanna look up the sold comps for an item.

Great video Mel - loved looking around a different state’s Lifeline Bookfest. I went to the Brisbane one for the first time this year and it was hectic! It was a great place to source but as you said in your video it is an exhausting long day.
Yes very exhausting. Even just leaning over the tables for hours gives you a sore back. I’d love to travel for more of their book fairs, maybe one day you will see me at the Brisbane one. Im in Brisbane now for the eBay conference today

Not sure how anyone even makes money with that.
Great Vid Mal , made me think of how I got into reading , whenever i was in trouble my Dad would send me to my room , I'd read a book and when i wanted to come out I'd take the book with me and ask Dad what a certain word meant , he would always mellow because he thought I was using the time constructively as he was an avid reader . The things 10 year olds think up to get out of trouble haha . 40 years later reading at least one book a week and know what most of the words mean hahah .
They actually let you in the door?? I thought you would be banned from all book fairs after you got kicked out last time. You are Mel the buyer of all books! 😂
Very encouraging. I've got a vintage and antique book sale to go to on Saturday but it starts on Friday. Fingers are crossed that I can grab some good ones and that they are not all taken. It was so sweet of your family to help.
It was interesting to see how this book fair worked. And how many books there were and how much space there was to walk around and look at everything at your leisure. Very nice!
I usually pick up the items I think I want, then find a corner to go through them all, double checking condition and looking any up I'm not sure about. I think its faster, but to each their own I suppose. Love your content and I'm glad to hear you're doing better Mel. Back pain can be debilitating.
I did that with some books also. I took a cart to the corner of books I wasn’t familiar with then comped in bulk and put back the ones I didn’t want. When your unfamiliar I think that’s a good way to do it.
Love this video! We have some big sales here, but yours is much more spread out. I can't do it anymore, too old, but I loved it when I could lift bags and keep going. Enjoy your stamina and youth!
I personally helped out there last Wednesday at EPIC in Canberra, with the books and organisation of everything, got myself a nice little haul of antique, jewellery and wildlife books first pick exceptional value and contributes towards a great cause. Excellent variety!
Greetings Mel, thanks for wearing the camera. 💜 The video was very informative and wow 🤩 what a huge book sale. Thank you for showing us what you picked up. Blessings 🧘🏾♀️🪴
Mel, honestly I love your videos so much. I have nothing to do with reselling or whatever. Just really love your voice and personality. Keep em vids coming! Cheers from Vienna, Austria (Europe)
Bless you for giving that lady that awesome snake book. Very kind. Will be keeping a keen eye out for "Get in the Bag". :) That trolley is the biz! Must get myself one. :)
Way to go out of your comfort zone Mel! You did a great job with the GoPro. Also, I’m so glad you are adapting your tasks and getting help. I hope that will help minimize your pain.
More in the collectors room. They also do magazine, CD, DVD and games. I don’t know enough about which comics are worth the money though and because they can price higher here I steer more towards to what I know.
They do individually price them. They have a warehouse that does them and then they put them onto pallets for the book fairs that travel around. Sometimes you can find the same book but they are different prices that’s why I have to keep checking inside the book. Like that blue bird book. I had several of those and they were all priced different.
Loved it, thanks Mel.... It's almost like being there myself! You got some great books. Would love to get to a Lifeline Book Fair. Presume they have them in Victoria too.
Loved this video, thanks for the go pro. Love how your sweet husband is always there to help you. Mine won't do anything for me, give him a hug and tell him to start planning a add on to your shed lol
If I were a book seller I would go out of business because I would try to read all my nonfiction lol. Also that lady was ridiculous and you are so gracious in your conversation with her, Mel
It's hard to not want to keep a lot of the books. I often set aside some books I would like to read but I also download a lot of self-help books that catch my eye on Audible and then as I work I can listen to it at the same time. But for fiction I like to read a proper book (not audio)
Did u steal a Ikea bag with your trolley lol that lady wanted to chat you made her day ...lol . I've looked for bird books hard to find You got some great ones

I love that song lol. I might need to practice with the GoPro while I do my grocery shopping or something where I’m in a public space so I become more comfortable with it lol.
Wow I would love to have such a large fair here in the UK, but as I have 200k books in stock probably a good job we don’t ! I am offered thousands of books per week and have to decline so many, not the money but the space
A National Trust property near us hels a similar book sale annually, but much smaller of course. We obtained some excellent books from there. After a couple of years they realised/thought that they could make more money opening a book shop at the property. We're no longer members of the National Trust so I'm not able to say if it's still open.
Lifeline do have some small stores around Australia but they travel state to state with this huge book fairs. It’s amazing how many books one charity can get
How will you function if someone like WOB sets up on both Ebay and AZ Oz? As mentioned before, you are able to make crazy money on books that are literally race to the bottom titles here in the UK but if a big company sets up shop and drives down prices wont you and the other book sellers be up the creek without a paddle?
I will pivot to another niche if need be :) I was a clothing and shoe seller before I did books. I always had a small selection of books in my store and when Covid hit I was selling more books so I started to source more books and next thing I was a book seller lol. But I'm always open to change if the market changes. Because I sell books full time I'm aware as the market becomes more saturated and starts changing and I'm always looking ahead and have my ears and eyes open at all times :)
For your first time GoProing you did really well, one question, how did you make your eBay app stay on the sold comps setting? Thanks for the inspiration.
You can lock the screen so it only shows the solds. There is a little padlock next to where it says solds and completed. Just press the little padlock icon and it will lock. I go between having it locked and having it off as I also like to check what’s actually listed with some books.
I see you also get randoms talk to you when you're shopping. I get that a lot. The family looked super psyched to be there with you lol. Well done using the go pro. I'm sure your confidence will grow over time. I can't even find the courage to price comp in public. I just trial and error which is a bad way to go about it. Great video
Yes I like when the randoms talk to me :) It’s nicer then the death stares ha ha. Yeah the family definitely isn’t as keen as me on the books ha ha. The go pro makes me feel very uncomfortable, I probably need to practice wearing it out more so it becomes second nature. I find it hard to even know if it’s getting the right footage on what I’m sharing as you can’t see the little screen when it’s strapped to you!
Wow , that’s twice the size of the bigger one I go to. I can only imagine how tired you were by the end of it. Our big one is still a month away , hoping it’s as good as that one looks like it was
I love book fairs! I usually head straight to the Military section. There are several high value items here. Many military books have small print runs. It's exhausting after a day of going cover tables and trestles of books. How is your back?
Are they all brand new in the beginning of the video? How much did you spend total if I might ask? What do they do with the books left over that don't sell after the sale? You got me all jazzed. I love books, selling books, buying books. I wish I was better at it. You are amazing. Thanks for taking us along.
All the books are second hand. I spent quite a lot of money but I will make a large return. A lot of the books get packed up for the next book fair or there smaller stores.
Stacked up on the death pile shelf (which I’ve been working on clearing) and I’ll stack them in front of it also. I’ll get bundles done first so I don’t mix any up. Hopefully I won’t have to source for a while which will help my leg pain
This book fair looks amazing, but certainly requires stamina! You are very lucky to have willing helpers. It's amazing to see the scale in number and quality of books Lifeline receives. I'm glad to see all those lovely books get second lives. I found that Arnold Bodybuilding book once for $3.50 and sold it for $49.95. I've only ever spotted it once, it certain is a brick of a book.
I sold the Arnold book for about $80 once! It changes in value and goes up and down but it’s definitely a $50+ book. I am also so happy to see so many people still loving used books and reading. It’s very nice to see. They said they had 57k people come to the bookfair over the three days. So many books saved from landfill and so much money raised for the charity.
@@backfromburnout Aim high and hope for the best, it mostly depends on what else is listed at the time. But you need a fairly high price on that book as I just checked and it cost me over $15 to post. My little spreadsheet also confirmed that I allocated the profit I made towards buying a Lego set. I mostly pick up things to earn a little spending money for fun things.
I'm interested in what you spent for all of those books, if you don't want to share that it's totally fine, but pulling a big amount like that I'm always interested.
Awe Mel, it's like the Mother Load of Estate Sales. Gotta love an amazing Book Fair and you have the biggest heart. Take care not to do to much damage to that spine, yours and the books 😉💕😘👩🌾
We go to our book fair every year-3 days - it's huge and cheap - read a lot and now that I'm retired I read even more- love mysteries and thrillers- one of my favorite authors is Harlan Coben and Ruth Ware and - Erik Lawson but read many others-and still love Dorothy l Sayers- but in the summer I love cozy easy read mysteries- have read 5 in a week sitting at the pool- usually read the whole series of a certain character so selling in bundles make so much sense to me ( I also have a kindle so freebees from library )- my Grands come to the sale with me -(I go the day before for myself) and then day two we just do the books they want- the lists are already made - (they are huge readers) and like books better than their kindles) Taught my grands to grab the entire series of the books they want- because you may not be able to get them at a later date esp for .25- this year it was hunger games lol- btw I really enjoy your videos- I don't why but love watching to source and pick and pack books (I think it's your accent)- I'm a huge fan of Australian tv (McCleod's daughters and wentworth among many many others
Book buying must be exhausting!! I only sell very small things (Canadian shipping is way too much to sell books) what were those books at the 16:48 ? They were so pretty!
That's an amazing haul! I'm based in the UK so hoping at some point I can find one here near me. There's no way I can pick up as many though (don't currently have a car!).
What a great haul!!! Looks like it was a great day! I have a question for you about storing books. Do you put books that have foxing with books on your shelves that don’t have it? Also do you find the foxing mould spreads to other books when stored together? Thank you 😊
So exciting. Went to ours a couple weeks ago towards closing time so got great deal. Two paper bags full for $5!! Also gave my name to collect all remainder of books if the guy who's name they had from last year didn't want the leftovers. I guess he did because they never called me but when I gave my number they said if he did take them there's always next year😍😍 Great video and fun times. How did you wear your GoPro?
I don’t suppose you managed to pick up a copy of ‘fly fishing’ by J R Hartley did you ? I’ve been ringing around some local book stores and none have it in stock
Your lifeline book fair is so much better than ours. We are lucky to find anything under $3 a book. And don't get any of the good books like you found. I might come to yours next time 😊
Looks like you had a very good productive day out, huge place! It's like printing money, so much profits to be made there. Hope that book you handed over to the snake lady wasn't worth too much Lol. Enjoyed the video, thanks.
You can lock the screen. Next to the words sold and comps in the filter there is a little padlock. Just tap it and it will lock any of the filters you want. I always go back and forth with locking mine as sometimes I like to look at how many are listed to know how saturated it is.
Bibles are generally between$2-$7 Fiction is mostly between 50c and $5. Other books range up to about $8 depending on what they are. Sometimes they might have the same book but they’re all priced differently. Some books are priced too high for reselling which is why it takes a long time to look through them and you have to comp.
Great job, Mel. What did the books cost, how many did you get and do you have a rough idea of what the profit might be? Just curious. I don’t know a lot about books so I rarely buy any. But you have it mastered.
I’m heading to my first book fare in January in Brisbane. I’m thinking I’m needing a trolley of some sort 😀, I was initially thinking I might take a few reusable bags lol. Great video
It makes me so HAPPY to see so many people still reading and buying books:)
What a fabulous selection of Australian birds books. Beautiful!!
The “snake lady” was so desperate to make a human connection and talk to somebody.
Some of the bird books are really beautiful, it’s no wonder they sell well for me.

All the books are second hand. I spent quite a lot of money but I will make a large return. A lot of the books get packed up for the next book fair or there smaller stores.
You are a Super Star! Hope you make a boatload of $$$! Well done! (You've got great family support. Nice to see.)
Thank you so much
Hi....Mel....that is a massive haul!!! How are you going to store all those books in your shed???😱
I need that trolley. Where did you get that from please
Clax Cart
I'm interested in what you spent for all of those books, if you don't want to share that it's totally fine, but pulling a big amount like that I'm always interested.
I spent about $1500 I think
Awe Mel, it's like the Mother Load of Estate Sales. Gotta love an amazing Book Fair and you have the biggest heart. Take care not to do to much damage to that spine, yours and the books 😉💕😘👩🌾
Thank you for watching! It was a great book fair!
Love it! So much fun ❤️
Thank you!
Great vlog Mel !!. What was your total spend ? Love more videos like this.
I think $1500ish. I can’t remember I’d have to check the bank balance, I just tapped the card lol
Maybe you should build a second shed out of books.
I wish LOL
Book buying must be exhausting!! I only sell very small things (Canadian shipping is way too much to sell books) what were those books at the 16:48 ? They were so pretty!
It can be very exhausting and is a laborious task
Love Barbara Cartland - first romances my Mom let me read. :-)
She can sell for some really good money! Even in terrible condition!
Loved this video!
Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
That's an amazing haul! I'm based in the UK so hoping at some point I can find one here near me. There's no way I can pick up as many though (don't currently have a car!).
Get a taxi home - can take a couple of large suitcases and a backpack. Go with a friend, buy her lunch......
What a great haul!!! Looks like it was a great day! I have a question for you about storing books. Do you put books that have foxing with books on your shelves that don’t have it? Also do you find the foxing mould spreads to other books when stored together? Thank you 😊
I don’t find it spreads for me but I also don’t live in a high humidity area
You made a new friend Mel 😂🤣
You got some amazing books!!
I have got so many great books. Can’t wait to start listing them
So exciting.
How did you wear your GoPro?
wat do they do with the books that are left over?????????? cheers Peter in sydney
Well worth the time and effort if you don't have to source for a while......loved the content Mel x
Yes I’m hoping I have enough for a while now. My body has been aching so now I’ll have one less job to do for a couple months
I don’t suppose you managed to pick up a copy of ‘fly fishing’ by J R Hartley did you ? I’ve been ringing around some local book stores and none have it in stock
The yellow pages ad 🤣
Your lifeline book fair is so much better than ours. We are lucky to find anything under $3 a book. And don't get any of the good books like you found. I might come to yours next time 😊
We have a lot of expensive books here also. Many are $5-$8. You have to pick carefully which is why it can take hours
That was awsome this completed your craziness love you girl!🌹
Ha ha. I am a little crazy
Congratulations 🎉
Looks like you had a very good productive day out, huge place! It's like printing money, so much profits to be made there. Hope that book you handed over to the snake lady wasn't worth too much Lol. Enjoyed the video, thanks.
I didn’t want to comp it afterwards lol
How do you get your comp ap to scan straight to solds? I have to go to active then scroll down to sold filter which is time consuming?
You can lock the screen. Next to the words sold and comps in the filter there is a little padlock. Just tap it and it will lock any of the filters you want. I always go back and forth with locking mine as sometimes I like to look at how many are listed to know how saturated it is.
How much were the Bibles and tabletop books selling for?
Bibles are generally between$2-$7
Fiction is mostly between 50c and $5. Other books range up to about $8 depending on what they are. Sometimes they might have the same book but they’re all priced differently. Some books are priced too high for reselling which is why it takes a long time to look through them and you have to comp.
What a cool event! Do they have a comic / graphic novel section?
Yes they have some and magazines, CD and DVD and board games etc.
What a wonderful event. I bet your car was riding low!!
It sure was!
That was an epic effort! Curios how much that snake book is worth, she seemed to think it was a hard to find book.
Great job, Mel. What did the books cost, how many did you get and do you have a rough idea of what the profit might be? Just curious. I don’t know a lot about books so I rarely buy any. But you have it mastered.
I haven’t unpacked them to count how many as I’ve been in Brisbane a few days. I spent a lot but will make lots of profit
When we cleaned out my parents home we had alot of bird books and they went to lifeline. I just didn't have a place to keep them
Books take so much room. We need to cull personal collections or they can over take the house
How much are you buying the books for ?
It ranges. They’re all priced individually at these events.
I’m heading to my first book fare in January in Brisbane. I’m thinking I’m needing a trolley of some sort 😀, I was initially thinking I might take a few reusable bags lol. Great video
I love my trolley but I normally have to do a few loads at a time when I am there solo. I couldn't do book fairs without it though. Mine is a ClaxCart
What app do you use to scan with?
I was just using the eBay app for this one. It’s not very accurate though and I do prefer to type the name of the book in for better results.
