Also you shouldn't wait long if you have a higher loc count or even smaller microlocs or sisterlocks. There's a reason people with SLs are instructed to reti every 4-8 weeks. Smaller locs mean even less hairs in that loc so the hair may not be able to withstand the weight of that loc without interlocking more frequently. I would definitely say if you have finer hair you wouldn't want to wait as long either. But I have larger sized microlocs as well and wait 8-10 weeks to retwist my hair.
Very quickly you became my favorite loc channel besides your accurate information you just give healed lovie vibes. Like a distant bestie. Your energy is amazing thanks for the content. The loc community needs you
I love your locs. I am 1 month in and trying to decide when to retighten. Lots to learn and figure on my journey, but, loving it. Keep the videos coming.
Currently I'm a loose natural getting set up to get micro Locs with added extension human hair. I totally agree with waiting at least 10 weeks before retightening my loc's. My hair strands are coarse as in thick strands with no detangling issues. I also like the fullness at my roots. My loc's will be at waist length and all one length. As my hair grows I will keep it cut at waist length. I am excitedly looking forward to the styles being done to my hair! Thanks for the video!
I am so glad I get to watch your videos b4 I started. I have been thinking about locs for while now because I'm so tired of thinking about what to with my hair. What style today what style tomorrow. Your videos are a great inspiration for me. And I want exactly what you have, same size everything. But I can't do it myself unless someone shows me. You are so natural in your videos and so honest. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this! I am 6 months in my loc journey and I recently waited 8 weeks (1st time I’ve waited more than 4 weeks) just to see how it would look. However, my hair doesn’t grow into my locs. Definitely something for me to think about about. I loved waiting though because it saves time by stretching.
Beautiful hair! I wish I could wait 10 weeks. I'm almost a couple months in and my new growth is coming in fast. After 4 weeks I have almost a half inch of new growth so I'll be doing a retie next weekend at 6 weeks.
I would loooove if could wait 10 weeks between retightenings 😭 my hair is too wild. The hairs grow every which way. And don't even get me started on my newgrowth... You are beautiful and hair is gorgeous 💖 I'm loving following your journey 👍💖
I think when you have a higher loc count waiting an additional 4-8 weeks can mean an additional 2-3 hrs if you have a consultant. I have 600 locs and my consultant takes about 2 hrs and when I go from 5 weeks to 7 weeks 2 hrs turns into 3+ hrs. Really good video though because when I self maintain I will definitely stretch it out! Beautiful hair!!
Kelly A you bring up a really good point! I didn’t think about higher loc counts, but it makes sense that the effects would be more dramatic since more locs means more additional rotations added overall.
Yes ! I like to wait because my hair is really thin, and she charges an extra 30 bucks for the extra time. I don’t like the increase, but it’s worth it.
With you saying that interlocking is harsh do you think you will ever combine locs and go to Retwisting instead? When you do your part clean up does it cause breakage to some of your strands?
D C I do not think that I would transition to re twisting bc it needs to be done more often (to maintain the same look) and still puts tension on your strands. When I do my part cleanup I normally dont have any breakage since I dont have much merging at the bases, assuming i popped my locs like I was supposed to ❤️
And I love your locs. I have 272 and I have a lot of them combined. I want to undo them bc they kinda hurt when I interlock them. Is there a way to do that? Also I love your pattern grid I wish mine was neater. I like straight clean parts. I thought ab starting over but that will take a long time. And I feel like ill lose a lot of hair. I only had my locs for 3 years. But I really want to have clean straight parts. Is there a way to do that from my foundation. I thought ab going to someone but I don't trust anyone. And my mom doesn't want to clean my parts up and I cant see.
I am not sure! I will have to look into ways you can get your hair to grow into the loc, and yes all locs can be combed out, but you will lose some length during the process. If your parts bother you to the point where you dont like your locs then go for it, but don't let anyone else influence you to want to change them if you didnt have a problem with them before seeing someone else's locs. Hope this helps!
This video was very informative, I am about to start my loc journey in about a week. Your videos offer a lot of insights on things to do. Check out my last video on my concerns about starting my journey, maybe you can give me some feedback.

Simone Bailey yep make sure you do your research! Theres no perfect way to have locs, just the best practices that work for you specifically

I think that over time, your hair can become trained to stay within the part, so even if it isn't an option now, it may be an option in the future!
Yeah, my hair is prone to marrying so I will have to retighten 6-8 weeks. Great video! Thanks.

Gosh!! Seperating locs is suuuch a thing for me at this beginner stage (with 1st retigh due) :( Thanks for that after-wash advice.
Portia Lujabe congrats on starting your journey! Glad I could help ❤️
I agree with everything in this video, I’m 7 months in, and i always wait 10 weeks to return.

kitten007ccts aw man lol, well at least you have an excuse to have the fresh reti look more often! And thank you for the support ❤️
Same! 6 weeks is as long as I can go before my hair gets DISRESPECTFUL!
Thanks for the info!
EXCELLENT!!!
Is it better to start off with more micro locs if you want a fuller look, or less/bigger ones
What hair to get

Because of COVID-19 guidelines, I am, for the first time, in the process of retightening my locs.
awesome how did it go?!
Naps Are The New Black I completed the front. It was quite a challenge. I published a video and will upload another soon.
Are there any ways to make my hair grow into the loc instead of out and away.

How did you start ur locs? I wanna start mines but not sure how yet
With small two strand twists
Naps Are The New Black did my twist today, wish me luck
New from IG 👌🏾🥰.
welcome!
You’re so gorgeous....how many locs do you have?
you should do modeling lol
you are too kind! I'm actually super awkward in front of a camera lolol
I agree! Naps is gorgeous and I love her voice!!
Do you have microlocs?
Sheena Franklin yep!
I’m on week one of mini twist and it feels like i need to retighten my hair already! Maybe I didn’t twist my roots tight enough 🤦🏾♀️
you are experiencing slippage. That is completely normal in the beginning! you will be able to stretch your retis more as your locs become more solid
❤️
