If people, get so upset at something so trivial as calling a Range Rover a truck , I think there are more important things in life they should get upset at. Anyhoo I’m enjoying the Range Rover video regardless 😂😂😂 what grade sandpaper did you use to wet sand the headlights? They look like new.🏆

Hi Johnny, I note on the vid that when the engine is running there are no position indicator lamps illuminated around the terrain response dial.... but there is when on ignition only.
This reminds me of a similar fault I had on a 2010 RR Sport TDV8. The fault appeared after reassembling the car following reupholstering the roof head liner. I eventually figured out I had blown a fuse associated with the interior light circuit which was also associated with the gearbox shift position illuminator. Following replacement of the fuse and an all cpu reset on my scan tool, the fault cleared.
As I recall the light circuit / or power circuit had differing relationships when the engine was running to when ignition only, and I would get the fault appear as soon as I started the car.
The electrical feeds are probably different on a L322 to a L320 but maybe this line of thinking sends you in a different direction.... ie when running is the power to the area being maintained ?
    Hope that helps !

I used to have a L322. Lovely car. Anyhow I cannot offer any great insight to your gearbox issue. Two things that come to mind are when the l322 starts it does a transfer box test (cycles the high/low range box) to ensure it works as earlier models (p38). Had a tendency to size through lack of use. This happens on engine start so perhaps related to no fault engine off and something being detected on start up. The other thing was the idea that the gearbox was recently serviced so it can’t be anything to do with that. From my memory the forums were full of debate about whether to touch the gearbox for a service as very few people did it correctly. I considered it but was contemplating taking it to ZF in Germany. I certainly wasn’t going to let a local outfit do it. One could argue lots of fresh oil and filters are better than none but the consensus seemed to be the gearbox was so sensitive there was a big risk. Perhaps something wasn’t right with than service and something is wrong. Not sure if this late l322 was still a sealed for life gearbox but I didn’t touch mine but then again she also wasn’t a tow car. Mine was an untouched gearbox, both factory turbos and ran wonderfully at, IIRC, 160,000mkles. One thing I did do was fit a bigger 110amphr battery. Just fits. Anyhow I really enjoy your videos and hope you get her sorted. You’re very brave with that door sill loom!

Hi Johnny I’m so pleased I found this video, I have a 2012 Westminster model and I have spent a fortune on suspension faults and to date the issues haven’t been resolved, I have tried to use what I was led to believe specialists and I appear to have more problems than what I had started with, I don’t have any testing equipment and only basic tools and a modicum of knowledge which invariably is dangerous, another thing that is giving me a headache is the entertainment system mine doesn’t work at all, I will be watching your progress to see if I can learn anything from your endeavours, many thanks.

I fixed a broken Canbus system on a BMW X5 and I gave up trying to find the broken wire. I had access to wiring diagrams and continuity tested from the furthest module back (boot area) all the way to the ECU, I found continuity on one Canbus wire but the other one had nothing (they run in pairs) . Oddly enough it had continuity between other modules. Long story short, I spliced and soldered into one module and ran a new wire back to the ECU and this resolved the Canbus issue. And then fast forward, it turns out water was getting into the back doors because of a dodgey door card membrane (common bmw issue) and this rotted the wires under the carpet. I would never ever have guessed that. Wiring issues are a pain.

Hi Johnny, if the sunroof is anything like a Discovery 3/4 and I'm sure it is, the leak you have is the drainage tube that goes from the sunroof to the footwell, where it exits into the wing. It perishes or gets clogged. Open the sunroof have a look there's a hole either side for drainage. Try blowing it out first.....it's about 5 or 6 ft long I think. If it's perished you can add a 12mm air fitting and splice a new tube instead of trying to replace the whole tube as that's a nightmare. It's quite common on the Discovery 3 and 4 as your carpets get soaked and you start getting wiring problems....😂

Hi again Johnny, just a quick one take a look at the gear shift linkage under the car just in case. If the car has been sitting any length of time it gets corroded. It just needs taking apart cleaning and lubrication. Just mark it before taking it off so it doesn't need adjusting again. Or get someone to shift the gear selector as you spray it with lube. 👍

Owners of P38s like me were all probably shouting 'WATER LEAKS'. They leaked through the air intakes in the front plenum chamber and filled up a similar channel. This is the next generation L322 and post 2010 used an updated Jaguar electrical system which was actually pretty reliable. But wires don't like water and the L322 did leak (like the Disco 3) so I hope you spent time finding where it actually came from rather than assume it was the sunroof.
But that looks a really good one and for £3k you stole it!

Really enjoyed this one, this is such a real world scenario and that is the heck of a lot of "truck" 😅 So unsurprised to see a lot of the snafus caused by a drowned section of loom along the sill, great spot and sensible resolution. Looks like that section could do with a drain, would have been very tempted to fit one to prevent reoccurence. Personal experience on that gearbox fault mystery. 3 years ago, I bought a 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HST. I believe she shared the same gearbox and terrain response with your truck. Upon picking the car I noticed the gearbox fault straight away and the car drove and shifted fine which I thought it may need a service. After spending thousands on services replacing parts such as the shifter, transfer case, The hdc or terrain control unit and many many other parts. I ended up selling it with the fault at trade price. I visited numerous so called RR specialists and no one could even pinpoint where the issue came from.
Also to note, the car drove fine for about 30minutes with the gearbox fault and then suddenly it would come up with some sort of suspension fault and slam the suspension all the way down and the only way to reset it was to switch it off and on.
That’s my horror story and I’m afraid your issue seems very similar to mine. I wish you luck coz you gonna need a lot of it.

I've a a few Range Rovers and all are wonderful but bloody frustrating. I'd take it into a field and go through all the transmission options and rev range. Use hi and low, traction, hill descent the works. Range Rovers seem to sulk and if you don't use a facility they have, they tend to go on strike! If you've had a recent gearbox service, there is a possibility that some tiny speck of smutchz has been disturbed and is now slightly blocking a valve, but only enough to trigger an error message when the engine is running. Also, they are very picky about battery voltage, which can cause some 'apparent' errors. Water ingress causes fun times too. A lot of police and governement spec rangies had no sunroof for this very reason. (And manual transmissions) Good luck, they are awesome vehicles. (when they work)

I know you said that the gearbox has been serviced. Eaither way It might be worth running the engine and just removing the fill plug to see if you have a drip coming over. As you know this will indicate that the oil is at the correct level. If it isn't then the lack of oil pressure with low oil will give you this fault. It's only a suggestion but an easy check. Rules it out.

Buy a new battery. Disconnect old one and leave an hour or two, perhaps overnight then connect to new battery.
Check the charge rate to ensure that alternator isn’t knackered.
Check the chassis Earth connections and any other Earth connections and renew any that look corroded.
Remove all electrical connection plugs and spray with appropriate cleaning products. Check for corrosion.
This is relatively cheap and eliminates a number of potential issues. If this doesn’t solve it, I suspect the fault is in the gearbox and it will need an autobox specialist to sort the problem.
*you mentioned that it had a gearbox service, could they have used the wrong specification oil and this is throwing up a fault?

Just did my wheel nuts a few weeks ago, lots of chiselling to get the covers off so a firm grip could be made on the inner bolt head. Apparently they're 7/8", not 22mm, which is why they go bad, the 22mm socket is slightly larger and when the tyre fitters go at them with a windy-gun it shifts the outer jacket.
My old X5 had a gearbox fault which was untraceable, codes indicated the transfer box, turned out to be the body to drivetrain earth cable was corroded. Check your earths.

Not sure about why the gearbox fault occurs only with the engine running but maybe worth checking ground straps/connections on the engine and gearbox. If some are compromised it could be trying to ground from elsewhere and generating a fault code? Especially as the engine would have more electrical demand when it is running (and most especially when the starter motor is running). Worth a look...

    • @musiclights3897
      @musiclights3897 2 месяца назад

Thinking further about this, if you took a jump lead from battery -ve to the starter body, it would check if the starter motor was causing the ground issue. It may still be the engine demand of course.

This is why so many just chuck new components at a vehicle, hoping for the best, no wonder then, there are so many Range Rovers out there with unsolved warning lights showing.
