    Congratulations to this amazing man. We do recover. I myself was also highly addicted to drugs and alcohol at one point in my life. I had literally tried everything. Rehab after countless rehab, jail, prison, even as far as being no homeless and living in a tent in skid row Los Angeles. I used to get on my knees and pray to God to please help me and remove the desire and want for drugs and alcohol. Five years ago I convinced my senior and disabled Mother that if she bought me a car I would get a job and make all the payments. Not even owning that car for a month I was back at it again doing what I did best. Driving around hopelessly in Downtown Los Angeles and getting high all night. I remember vividly one night I pulled over to get high when I all of a sudden had a complete out of body experience. I saw myself slumped over in the driver seat with my eyes wide open and my mouth hanging open and I was completely dead. I remember seeing Police officers and I heard one of them distinctively say, he’s a goner partner. Call his Mother to come and identify his body. I came out of that trance and I instantly knew that God had answered my prayers. I threw all my drugs and paraphernalia away and drive immediately home and woke my Mother up at 3am and began to sob like a baby in her arms and I was profusely apologizing to her for all the years of worry, pain, torment, anger, sadness, misery, and uncertainty. She held me fiercely in her loving arms and rocked me back and forth and cried with me and kept saying over and over again, hallelujah Lord Jesus Christ thank you for saving my one and only beloved son, thank you God. My name is John G and I’m a very grateful recovering addict.

    The main thing with addiction is to be honest with yourself, first and foremost, because admitting to yourself that you're in way too deep is the most strongest, most liberating thing that you can ever do. It is the start of a long road to recovery, but knowing that you can admit to yourself and subsequently other people that you have big problems, will be a huge boost.

    Beautiful story!!! Gives me inspiration to get help for the guzzles of alcohol. My brothers from another were over yesterday helping me move, and while they worked away helping, I was drinking and later fell asleep in the garage where they and my sis/bro in law and neighbors, sitting on my son's crayola stool from when he was a kid. They all said I need to get help and shared stories of their parent with drinking and yet here I disrespect them and drinking away. Hopefully that will change soon.

    • @kimminer7341
      @kimminer7341 Год назад +2

      MatMan from Eagan, this is Kim from Stillwater! You have taken a HUGE first step in your own recovery by coming to terms with your addiction in front of the entire world on RUclips! You have the courage to do that, when most addicts/alcoholics just hide their secrets. BRAVO to you, sir! Now, there are plenty of people out in the world that you can help with YOUR story, just like this man did-and you can save their lives, as well as your own. But you have to really want to get better, and ASK GOD FOR HELP! Unfortunately, my husband always thought that nobody knew about his secrets. Everybody did. He died a horrible death because he refused to acknowledge that he could get better. I tried to “fix” him for almost 19 years by making his life as perfect as I could so that he would be happy. But it completely backfired. He STILL could NOT be happy unless he was high, and the rest of us walked on eggshells all the time. He died on July 30, 2006, right after our first grandson was born. He saw him only once. Be strong, be brave. Don’t get clean for anyone else, or for any other reason except yourself-or it will be meaningless and will not last. Do it for yourself, Matt. YOU DESERVE IT!
