- This is my tribute to Christopher Reeve from 2009 - The best actor to play the role of Superman from 1978 - 1987. But there is a lot more to his history.....

For those of us who were born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s, we had the most memorable decades of movies and music any generation will ever experience.

How I envy you, I would have loved to experience the 70s and 80s era. Before the world became a toilet to live in.
And as long as we live, we can still have them...ya just gotta find the right modern movie though! :D

As much as I love Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill, Christopher Reeve will always be the one true Superman in my eyes
No brainer...Routh was better thaN Caville as he portrayed superman right and not like a person just like us
@@truthcantbesilenced4533 I think Routh's Superman was given far better writing than Cavill. The only time I really felt like Cavill was the Superman from the comics was in Zack Snyder's Justice League which he was barely in. Cavill had potential to be the best Superman but was unfortunately given bad writing in my opinion. Same thing with Ben Affleck. I think Christian Bale got to play a phenomenal Batman and I also loved Ben Affleck in the role but again like Cavill I didn't have a well written story which sucks because Affleck could've played a great Batman.

@@arlwithac9285 I've been going back and forth on this a lot recently. I think Reeve's Superman is timeless but Hoechlin's Superman is a better modern depiction of Superman

Christopher Reeve simply has the look for Superman. His face simply fit the character and no can play better Clerk Kent than him.
There are copious actors who play Superman well, but Christopher Reeve is still irreplaceable...

Agreed, but no one can fill the spot of whom actually made Superman. He wasn't the first to play him, but he bought life to both Superman and Clark Kent. In my opinion, no one could play a better version. Come close maybe.

It's amazing how perfectly he personified the spirit and character of the legendary icon. No one has come close since.

The other guys were decent actors but mainly just good looking. Christopher Reeve NAILS it. Way more charming and versatile. You could actually perceive his Clark Kent and Superman as two different people.

@@spanky4847 true story Dean cain was a last minute choice. That role was given to Gerard Chistopher who played Superboy. The producers saw his resume and said wait you done this already. Hence Dean Cain was hired
Can we all just acknowledge how important John William's legendary scores have been to so many movies. It's impossible to imagine Christopher Reeve's Superman films without the music. It gives you goosebumps. But yeah, for the record they'll never be a better Superman!
100% correct. All the elements are lightning in a bottle that cannot be replicated
I certainly agree! Without John Williams, Superman, Star Wars, Indian Jones, and many other films could easily have flopped - the incredible music fills the gaps, you feel empty when it's not playing, and it heightens your emotions in the crucial moments.
Of course Christopher Reeve is THE Superman, but also John Williams is THE composer
As a 46 year old. None of the superman films can live up to it. Music aside. To much cgi. That's why Nolan's batman was great. Sure there was cgi. But dc failed us with later superman

As a Superman fan growing up, the release of Superman The Movie was the most incredible and amazing event for this Man of Steel fan to witness! As the world’s greatest superhero, it was a thrill to see Superman come to life on the big screen in a film that featured dazzling special effects, for the time, awesome locations, a stellar cast, beautiful storytelling and, last but not least, the ONLY true actor to portray Superman as he was meant to be portrayed, Christopher Reeve! RIP.

What happened to him was truly tragic - you couldn’t make a movie about his life because no one would believe it! Superman becomes a quadriplegic - who could ever make up a headline like that???

The creative genius of Richard Donner and Crew saved this movie from disaster. Alexander Salkind wanted a known Actor to play the part. Donner wanted a lesser known actor to play the part and finally made the decision for Christopher Reeve. Christopher Reeve masterfully handled the differences between Clark Kent and Superman. This film set the bar high for superhero movies and hasn’t been topped since. Much respect to Christopher Reeve.

I was born in 2008. Grew up with this Superman making me a lifelong fan of DC. I idolized Superman and superheroes. Didnt know this was a movie from the 70s and 80s at that time. My dad just put it on and I thought that was the most recent one. I love Reeve as Superman.
Years ago I had the privilege of seeing Christopher Reeves in person at a Zig Ziglar motivational conference in Columbus Ohio. He was in a wheel chair and on a artificial breathing machine. His family was with him for support. He struggled to breathe. He gave a great speech. It was a great honor. A few months later he passed. Now he flies in Heaven with the angels. The best Superman ever. He is missed. :(

What a Wonderful Tribute to a man so well deserving. I remember growing up in metropolis and seeing very few people in wheelchairs out in public because they were basically home bound because of the sidewalks. I remember when things started to change with the curb being flat to allow easy access to cross the street,being able to ride mass transportation (Bus Trains, Stores, Apartment Buildings, Bushiness, Access A Ride). All made changes for the Physically Challenged to have a better quality of life. All due in part of Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. What I admire about Christopher Reeve is his courage. He didn't hide his paralysis an was out in public before thousands of people. I saw him at MSG before 20,000 speaking to the public right before a Rangers game and for that he will always be Superman and his Beautiful wife Dana is Lois.🥰 I can't wait until there are no disabilities and the restoration of limbs and brain damage will be a thing of the past. Today we have the restoration of sight for some, so it's only a matter of time. 😀👍

I was born in 2001 and when I was 5 or 6, my parents bought me a 6 disk collection of Superman (Superman Richard Donner cut, Superman 1-4, and Superman Returns). These movies started my love for comic book movies

But understand that for us born in a time of the Cold War and needing a hero who was positive and albeit odd…. We embrace him!!! Do not discount our generation. He was The Greatest Superman in every way - real life and screen. He was a natural in style and his body gestures - I felt like flying with him when I was kid - and till date no personality/actor has even come close to him. Noone will ever replace him .
Christopher Reeve was a hero as superman, and as an activist for stem cell research. I watched his movies growing up, and would even dressup like superman in children's party. When he had a horseback riding accident and got paralyzed I was really sad. But he continued making his life worth for something by campaigning for stem cell research. This is what motivated me to be a disease modelling and stem cell scientist. Christopher Reeve will always be one of my most important heroes
