  • Let's get one thing straight - mythology changes A LOT. There are so many differing versions of each story that my only advice to you all is to bear this in mind! If you need any SPECIFIC version of the characters discussed in this video or their narrative, please see the various texts in which they are addressed. This video is PURELY a very general overview of the Judgement Of Paris, but do remember that there is a lot of nuance here in the different ancient authors.
BUT! The Judgement Of Paris is SUCH an important moment in all of mythology that it simply had to be mentioned in this playlist! It's genuinely difficult to read any mythological tale without some reference to the Trojan War or the heroes who played a role within it, so it's only right that we highlight what started the whole fiasco in the first place.

In college/uni, I took a class called "Classical Tradition in Film", where our final project was to make a short film based on mythology. We turned the judgment of Paris into a Miss World-style beauty contest, and added in subplots of Persephone and Psyche also vying for the apple, only to be taken out of the competition by the three elder goddesses. Dionysus also tried to enter the competition, but was too drunk to make it through the first round. We had so much fun with it!
Also, the ONE TIME Zeus made a smart decision regarding women.

I can totally imagine Dionysus trying to get in this competition. You guys are brilliant for this idea.

I want to know why the Greeks were so obsessed with golden apples. One of the Labours of Herakles was to retrieve some golden apples from the Far West, and there's also the story of Atalanta.

I always thought the offers we bribes, but recently thought they would have to use offers. Seeing them in their full divinity would kill him. Right? Or am I missing something

6:36 There is a cool book I like-was it historically true or is it fiction-"The Lord of the Rings"? Since I can't find it behind you, it might be a hidden book waiting to be opened and read!
