  • This family tree and its mythology is so unbelievably confusing. There are a multitude of different versions as to how this whole drama unfolds. For this video, I'm simply retelling the story from the most popular versions of the mythology and attempting to make this one cohesive narrative. HOWEVER, in my other videos on the channel, if this mythology changes I will be specifying alternate versions within those videos as obviously, the variations are important for that specific text and/or story.

Thank you for calling out all the versions where Iphigenia lives! It’s frustrating how many retellings simply kill her off when we’ve got two Euripides plays where she’s perfectly fine!

Euripides being a fan of rewriting famous myths is ALWAYS worth highlighting!!!

That’s the beauty of retelling mythological stories- there are usually several divergent strands you can morph or simply take one path.

Oh yes, Iphigenia was spirited away by Artemis to a temple of the goddess in some forsaken city that sacrifice foreigners and her job was to prepare them for just that. She supposedly served Artemis for the rest of her life as the goddess’ priestess.

The Atreides are the sons of Atreus, and also the protagonists of Frank Herbert's Dune. Timely!

It always amazes me the way cla can't see the parallels between mythology and the Old and New Testament. I mean really is this not the story of Abraham. The question is which one came first?

What part exactly? Agamemnon having to sacrifice his own daughter, but Artemis «stops» him from doing so? Doesn't line up all that much…
