      Yes, I feel disappointed as well. I always knew there was an element of trust in using a ledger device because their firmware was closed source. But I was always told that the rigorous third-party testing proved that the device was secure and always generated a random private key. We were also told that the private key never left the device. Now we’re being told that they have a new feature that allows you to export your private key and when people complained, they told us it “always been possible”. That was enough to destroy all the trust that they had built up over the years.

    Sure, we don’t know for sure that ledger has logged our private keys, but we also at this point don’t know that they DONT have them. Importing the same seed to a trezor device is pointless.

    This video has generated a lot of lively comments and controversy! I’m really amazed. This is a really tough issue for those of us who have been around the crypto industry for so long. I did my first Ledger video back in 2017. The hard reality is security should be number one when dealing with crypto. Full stop. But unfortunately other factors come in to play. Every wallet has its pros and cons. I’ve been looking at some of the super secure wallets that use open source firmware and OMG, will granny be able to use these? I think not. Unfortunately I don’t think any company has really hit that sweet spot between security, affordability, and usability. I’m going to focus on step-by-step tutorials. I’ve got a lot of other wallets lined up for additional migration videos. Thank you so much everyone for watching.❤

That means your private key you created with Ledger using their randomness algorithm is compromised; so, the best thing is to create a completely new private key with Trezor and add an extra passphrase to it. And transfer all the coins one by one.

    Great tutorial! While more tedious and more expensive, it seems like the second method (actually creating a new seed phrase account) is the best way to go since isn’t the whole perceived risk of Ledger that they have some kind of backdoor to our seedphrases? By just creating a Trezor with the same seedphrase as Ledger, is anything really being accomplished from a security standpoint? Or am I incorrect, and the only time there is a vulnerability with Ledger is when the device is connected?

    i think you should of said that all coins on your ledger might not be supported by trezor .. also if the ledger user has already updated their firmware its better to send all assets over to the New trezor device instead of restoring the wallet . because we really don't know if the ledger seed phase is compromised or not.

Was wondering if there's any way you can make a video on how to transfer crypto from ledger nano x to a tangem wallet... I really hope the answer is yes and again thank you for all the videos that you do

    Hi sir, Thanks for this video. Very useful information which we didn't knew. I have one question though. After recovering the tokens from Ledger to Trezor wallet , Will my ledger shows the cryptos and Can i still use my ledger to send d same cryptos which i have migrated to trezor or those cryptos are not valid now?

    If you do the migration method using the ledger pass phrase and the Treszor does not support some of the tokens you are trying to migrate does the unsupported tokens just remain on ledger live? Also does the migration method work for the treszor one and model T?

    Could you do a review/migration of Blockstream jade? Trezor has kyc so I don't see the point of trading one vulnerability for another.

    Great video. If someone were to actually steal your seed phrase, would they be able to see all tokens you hold when they open Ledger Live? Or would they have to guess by adding random ERC-20 coins manually in a new L.L. account?

    • @CryptoDad
      @CryptoDad  Год назад

      They would not need to guess. They could just "add account" and it would show them all the non empty accounts + ERC20 tokens. That is why you should not let anyone steal your seed.

    Hi, I have a question, for what I understand, Ledger says that they under a subpena can give away the seed frase, if the seed frase in the Trezor (or BitBox02) is the same, are the assets safe in these wallets even when the seed phrase is the same? What Im trying to ask is , if Ledger gives away the 24 seed words, can the goverment or any individual access to the Trezor or BitBox02 wallet using these 24 words. Thank you in advance

    Just set Trezor cold wallet up. My only two issues are TRX staked and ATOM staked through ledger accounts TRX needs to sign into Tronscan with my Ledger Nano to claim rewards. Any suggestions, I have read that the older Nano S is probably not capable of recovery, for now I am using my older Nano’s monthly to connect and claim rewards.

    The thing I hate about using the trezor wallet, especially when login in is it's hard to hit the letters you want and not get canceled by doing it too many times. That's why I like the ledger originally. It's easy to navigate with a ledger versus trezor. 😅

    I currently have the Trezor Model 1 and want to buy a Trezor Safe 3 because it supports many more coins, would the transfer of wallets be the same as from a Ledger to Model T as a Model 1 to Trezor Safe 3?

    • @CryptoDad
      @CryptoDad  9 месяцев назад

      I have not had a chance to try out the Trezor safe three yet. But I’m sure you’ll be able to import a 24 word seed phrase. The process would be very similar to what I demonstrated in this video. Although the interface might be slightly different I contacted treasure and they’ll probably send me one in the next week or so, so I’ll get another video posted

    Yes, I feel disappointed as well. I always knew there was an element of trust in using a ledger device because their firmware was closed source. But I was always told that the rigorous third-party testing proved that the device was secure and always generated a random private key. We were also told that the private key never left the device. Now we’re being told that they have a new feature that allows you to export your private key and when people complained, they told us it “has always been possible”. That was enough to destroy all the trust that they had built up over the years.
