Have more PEX questions? Ask them here, and we'll try to get them answered!
Not necessarily a PEX question, but can you make a video explaining all the different connection types? Getting lost in the jargon of FIPS, MIPS, Comp (compression, this one at least I know), etc. Really liking these videos! Keep them coming!
@@nova31337 thanks for the idea - we’ll add it to our list!
I'm not sure if you are aware but Zurn PEX B can also utilize the expansion connection method.
Can you use the sharkbite crimping tool to "pinch" the stainless steel clamp ring inside the jaw?
Quin, I have looked everywhere for you clean-out video.... am I overlooking it? On a side note I think I have watched almost all of your videos. You guys are turely pros at what you do and more importantly concerning videos, pros at providing a clear, consice explaination. Thank you for everything you do!
Good stuff! Thank you kindly.
I just watched a few of your videos and they were very informative so thank you. I noticed my Home Depot has SharkBite PE-RT tubing and there isn’t very much info out there on this stuff. After some research, it felt like the right product for me and was able to get find some Legend HyperPure PE-RT at a Tractor Supply store, almost the same price as the PEX. Company puts a 100 year warranty on it and it seems like it gets the flexibility benefits of Pex A, but uses the simple cost effective Pex B connector system. As a DIY home remodeler, I prefer the regular Pex B crimp/clamp tools. Inexpensive and work without any power. Curious if you are familiar with PE-RT and what your comments are?
Would love to see some guidance on when to upsize when using Pex-B
What's the pros and cons of using the plastic fittings vers the brass ones other then cost.
So I always use and recommend crimps because it's what I've always used, I have the tools, I've never had a problem with them and to me I just think they seem better. The first time I ever seen the clamp style was when I had to fix a diy homeowners work where he had a few leaks and could not fix it himself so I cut them out and used crimps. It's possible he didn't clamp them properly I don't know or remember. Honestly I didn't pay much attention I just cut them out and fixed them. I just assumed the clamp style was like sharkbite push connect fittings made for homeowners to get by. They work sometimes but are not as reliable. I am curious about them because everyone tells me they're so much better which I cannot see how. I have a ton of expensive tools and I love owning as many tools as I can even if I'll only use them once. It's an addiction as my wife says lol. Either way I do not have the clamp tool but after these being put for so many years I'm considering purchasing although I do not think clamps are professional and unless someone can convince me otherwise I'll never switch to them. To me just like the push to connect fittings I think they're a sloppy temp fix. You can say whatever you want about the sharkbite p2c fittings but I have seen people use these behind walls and for some reason or another after years of being in the wall I've seen them start leaking for no apparent reason. I will say I've never seen one blow off so that's something lol.
Clip clamps vs crim crimps merci, THANKS A+
I uy 3/4 pex size and end with 1/2 inch male or female for kitchen faucet bathroom vanities showers and shut off valve
It wasn’t clear what he said did he say the crimp or clamp method is a better methodology, and longer lasting for PEX connections
Stainless steel clamps are my favorite
You should fix the video with the error regarding Pex A tool$$$
Home depot are hit and moss if they carry pex A. My atore doesmt carry it, but if i go an hour away, that store does. You can check online pretty easily what stores have them.
Pex A sucks in the cold. I need a heat gun, sun shine, or hair dryer below like 40 degrees otherwise the shrink rings just dont shrink. If it's too cold you have to hold the joint together until it heats up and shrinks. Crimps are nice in that regard, have never heard clamps are worth the future failure headaches.
Not all home depots carry pex a. My understanding is that some HDs have an expanded selection, probably based on population density and income averages.
Crimp or clamp for outdoor underground system?
Home Depot doesn’t have A in my area.
Do you have personal experience with the Pex-B stainless "cinch" rings leaking? I'm not finding any factual proof/data that cinch rings are not as reliable as "clamp" rings. Or is this simply your opinion?
Why would the crimp be more reliable than the clamp? Thanks.
I'm not sure why we've seen more failures with the clamp - but with the complexity of the clamp vs the crimp, there are more points of failure. Sometimes the simplest method is the best.
Crimp rings are copper so can corrode over time right? Clamp also doesn't require go no go gauge checks, the clamp tool won't open until clamped all the way. So maybe if done right they are about equal?
@@ravenstarver1360With the Sharkbite clamp tool, there actually is a go/no-go gauge that you use to test and calibrate the tool. 👍🏼
Can I use crimp clamps with a pex A ?
Yes you can use crimp rings or clamps with pex-a instead of the usual expansion method. Handy for ending lines and attaching to copper stub outs or adapters that are made for pex B
There is no pex A at any of the 5 home depots I went to.
