    So many people don't realize that that is NOT Marty, haha. 4 things give it away: the guitarist on the right taps during the arpeggios (Marty doesn't do that), his picking hand isn't abnormal (lol), his vibrato isn't as expressive as Marty's and his hair isn't as big as Marty's as well :P. This is actually a Japanese guitarist.

    • @chrisb2535
      @chrisb2535 Год назад

      Exactly! You're correct on all points.
      I know it's a grainy video, but clearly the guitarist on the right is Japanese. And Marty's picking hand technique is/was way different, his entire thumb usually runs parallel to the strings, such that his wrist and thumb almost form a 90 degree angle (I think he said he does that because he likes the attack/tone).
      Hard to tell, but that guitar also looks like a BC Rich Mockingbird.

    All of the guitars on Altitudes were played by Jason. Jason played all of the instruments on that record except for drums and solos done by Marty on those three songs I listed earlier. Jason also recorded some solos for the songs Saturation Point, Evil Thrill, and Jewel off of Marty's first solo album, Dragon's Kiss.

    You can notice it's not Marty just by hearing him playing, it sounds so different and wrong many times.

      That's some Japanese guitarist who's playing Marty's part at a JB clinic.
      It just sounds weird in modern interviews when Marty claims he never did the whole multi octave sweep picking thing. I understand that this specific sound and use of sweeping where the sweep basically just replaces a strummed chord is overused and done without taste in a lot of modern Metal, but Jason Becker was THE innovator of that style. Yngwie and the other shredders did sweeping before this, but all of them used sweeps as a melodic tool in their solos, not as a rhythm part llke Cacophony did.
      Yeah, all those sweeps were probably played by Jason on the recordings, but there were a lot of harmonised sweeps were Marty did his part live...

    @vlcrattlehead One thing to look for, is the really weird way Marty's holds his picking hand.

    @AnimeJesus Ya! Marty has that VERY distinct picking style and neither of these two have that.
