      He understands his fretboard. And the rest is just pure liquid talent. He’s my all time favorite metal guitarist, no one holds a candle to his feel and his command of semitonal use. It’s just… I can’t explain his feel for it all. Some got it and some don’t!

      Actually no, i started with joe satch, vai, then listened to Guthrie, Andy timmons, planet x, brett garsed, frank gambale.. i think Andy Timmons is great.. but i like marty's music the most.. then i gravitated towards classical - Beethoven, Mozart, Debussy, Chopin, Vivaldi, Paganini... lol, i have been coding for past 15 years, but today i revisited it again n i think i undesrtand marty better now, n his phrasing.. cause i have been listening classical a lot.. one thing i noticed - if i can sing the phrase, then i can play the phrase. I am not that talented, it took me long time to develop ears... n organically learn by listening. Now i dont play much but my playing has got much better , i dont need to look at tabs, i can now play ear.

    • @DataAnalystRahul

      This video introduced me to new concepts, i was aware of modes n it introduced me to phrygian dominant n then i learned hirajoshi, iwato, hungarian minor, double minor, nepolitan major n minor.. but after learning all these scale now i understand why marty says that he doesnt know any scale.. he knows scales but he doesnt care about them, because he knows he that he can use all the notes(12 of them).

    • @DataAnalystRahul
      @DataAnalystRahul 11 месяцев назад +2

      Past so many years i made changes in my playing to sound more like marty.. which was painful.. i used to do that after my office hours... then tom grady channel solved my problem of economy picking, credit to tom grady n Yngwei.. once that problem was fixed and i understood economy, inside and outside picking, things became easy.. i also dont do runs, but create phrases like marty does. There was a video - 100 marty phrases , i also downloaded that n learned that... but the real fun is to improvise on the chord changes and write tasty phrases n lines as marty.. my lines are good but not as good as martys.

Best way to learn back then was to stalk older players on the music scene and pester them to show you riffs and licks.

      @coryhillman6536 2 года назад +11

      I've heard it explained like this: you are trying to emphasize the notes in the scale that correspond with the notes in the chord playing underneath at the time. For example, an E major chord contains three notes: E, G#, B.
      Thus, when that chord comes up, those are the three notes I would want to highlight rather than just noodling through the scale which is what many people do. If the song then changes to an A major chord which includes the notes A, C#, and E, I want to emphasize those notes and so on. You are just highlighting the notes in the scale that correspond with the notes that make up the underlying chord.
      It will make your playing more melodic. There are tricks (such as the CAGED system) that can help you visualize where the notes you need are on the fretboard.

    @24:02 Andaluisan cadence
    A minor = A- arpeggio
    D minor outline = D dorian because D minor would have Bb . F is the 3rd . if you hit F with A minor
    that would be 6 , passing into C major def would skip 4 F and do Sharp #4 in Lydian.
    Eb outline with D- would be Phrgian / Phygrian Dominant/ over F )relative of d minor would be F making it an F7 the 6th degree of Bb major would be lydian . F7 would be F mixolydian.
    which was stated in the video.
    E major - E7 would have 3 notes of the Diminished scale/ whole/half. Or whatever broken Diminished Chord arpeggio you want from the First family of dim chords. Mixolyidan, Phyrgian Domintant B minor Penta on and on and on
    So I love marty so much this is great, but absolutely contradicted lol what he said about learning scales, so don't listen to that shit, cause he just outlined modes and scales and didn't make anything up.
    Thanks for the upload

    Thanks for this, really sage advice from Marty in this video! Maybe sacrilege, but there’s a bit of Jerry Garcia in Marty’s soling over these chords. ✌️

    • @subend0
      @subend0 2 года назад +1

      You are correct Jerry was definitely thinking about the individual chords and targeting specific notes over each chord. Jerry and Marty are more alike than some might think! All the tasty players do this. Anyone can just riff on a pentatonic scale (and sometimes that's appropriate) - but these guys really think about the harmonic movement of the song to make melodies in their improvisation.
