Marty Friedman-Jason Becker Black Cat Outro jam/Namida Tears/Blues

- This is superb guys. After first minutes of noodling they play (at 2:13) Black Cat Outro Jam/ Namida Tears and then they go into improvisation playing freely over a blues chord progression. Highlights are:
1) Jasons awesome technique
2)Martys awesome technique
3) Jasons "look" and "smile" every time Marty bends a beautiful note! Sign of recognition of the majesty in Maryts feel of melodies...
4) Intro from the song "Savage" unplugged at the beginning plus other little parts of songs.
My personal favourites are the parts when Jason rips then goes "ah..." when Marty enters the story. Like he knows he is a better guitarist than Marty but still cannot believe how the "teacher" finds these notes!!!
Nothing sweeter then the sound of Marty's bends
So pure.
Imti Jamir and Jason’s sweeps
they say he bends the universe itself
@@karlfriedrich1369 what you talking about, those sound so cringy and over the top. Its like he is not even thinking on what he us playing, but just repeating the same arpeggios cause they are in the key

Marty's playing hits me right in the heart.
Its sooo tragic... it still makes me cry sometime
,Though the real tragedy would have been never ever to heard Jason at all. True brillance that burned blindingly, but to burn out quick. I'm thankful for every single second of Cacophony & Becker's audio & video.
Absolute truth. But happily it takes more than ALS to stop someone with this much talent and he is still making amazing music.. I love his skills in videos like this, and the tenacity to keep making music.
By the way, he still composes today, but his music was shaped in styles he only knew after his illness, styles that perhaps he never would have followed had he not become ill, so while his music is still amazing, I wonder what it would be like today if he never got sick.
@@matheusalex872 yeah. I like triumphant hearts but man is it completely differeent. Hell, perspective and perpetual burn are pretty dang different from each other since he was losing control of his body while making perspective but both albums are still guitar instrumentals. Triumphant heart isnt. Guitar is just another instrument in an orchestra pretty much on triumphant hearts. Thats how i feel while listen to it at least. I do love trumphant hearts though. Just a lot different like u said.
no it doesnt
Does Jason ever miss a note? Cleanest playing I've ever heard. Wow
Agreed ! I've rarely seen someone playing so fast and clean without distorsion.
Yeah, he was super clean. Can you believe some people call him sloppy? People talk just shit because they can and dont really watch on its entirety the footage of guitarists. Shame on them 😂
Madden I think people think he’s sloppy because of his pick attack. He comes at the strings at such and angle that it’s sounds “harsh.” But he is extremely precise.
@@vmcnick yes that could also be another fact. By this point (Go Off! Release) he was already using downward pickslanting if Im not wrong. I think people also tends to think he sound 'sloppy' when he's playing with distortion because of the shitty mic cameras had back then.
Madden I dunno, even listening to the Perpetual Burn studio recording his picking has that harsh quality (which I personally love). If anything Marty is a contender for the “sloppy” moniker, at least in some of his playing I’ve heard recently.
I'm always amazed at how beautiful Marty's phrasing is. Even while improvising, it's really spot on, jaw dropping.
Savage Jam - 0:00
Noodling - 0:54
Black Cat - 2:13
Namida - 7:00
Blues - 7:30
Agreed, I believe that has composed more music communicating to other musicians what he wants transcribed using the device his father invented. I'd love to hear some of it. 7:20
I am so impressed when I see this again and again on how Jason always looks out for those amazing Marty notes and nods "yeah" and smiles.....It took me a thousand years in guitar playing to get to a point where from admiring technique I could actually hear "those" notes. For me this separates the boys (simple shredders) from men (guitar Gods). In the massive intensity of music while shredding some play exercises and some play beautiful music. And that is what phrasing is all about......
irmasil3 You put a reaction to you're own comment? Weirdo.
Its not that often that someone agrees with himself.
irmasil3 well put 😂🤘

Yes, i can hear it. I can feel it. I want to know how to be free in the notes. Like they are. So aww inspiring.
Great saying man
it is a shame that jason becker can no longer play..
he will play again
One day when the cure or have found a breakthrough in ALS
He is the greatest of all time i have seen Cacophony what a band and what a player
Can you imagine how great he would have become had he not been inflicted with ALS.
@Dwayne Lent ?
Wow. Just watching these two brilliant guitarist makes me want to get my guitar out and jam. Awesome. 🎸⚡️💥👍
JASON BECKER IS SOMETHING OUT THIS WORLD.
thank god man! someone saved this video.. i really wanted to see jason and marty being together in one video..
Marty shines here. Guitar gods!
Marty always shines
1:35 Marty Plays that Stravinsky/ Debussy style lick, they start harmonizing. Jason plays a variation and then they harmonize that too. What a duo
Only those two guys can shred like this with such a clean sound ! This is beyond amazing.... not to imagine how amazing I´d have been If the video quality would be better
+ChrisShredGuitar there were other ones too, that could and were at least that good.
but yep- it's amazing and it really would have been nicer with a better quality
+Doktor Jekyll van Hyde
yeah I know
but I think they had a very exotic and special tone and playing... that what I love at becker and marty haha
yep :/
hey dude if you like check out my jason becker altitudes cover
cheers
ChrisShredGuitar agree the tone was very nice
yeah i will check it out :) btw if you like guitarists that could shred with a clean tone, i'm pretty sure you'll like shawn lane or eric johnson check 'em out if you haven't already ;)
I know them, but I´m gonna take a more close look on them ! thanks for the advice ! and thanks very much dude !
cheers
ChrisShredGuitar check out "tri 7/5" and "hardcase" by shawn lane those ones are really good examples i think
1:44 sounds so amazing
I can listen that all day
so clean so beautiful its unreal.
My favorite part honestly
is this sound a part of a song ?
@@alvaro17ise nope
The sweep/arpeggio section of Altitudes is pure aural beauty
Still watching in 2019

Always and forever. Jason is the man!!!!...marty as well. Lol
2021
These 2 are the best ever!
They are both super extreme good in clean tone......i love clean tone because of them.........Love you both.....MARTY FRIEDMAN.....JASON BECKER
Jason's playing was so inspiring, he and Marty have the Stevie Ray thing where the music just flows out of them like an endless vessel
always love every bend and noodling from marty,i didnt need more pedal or new guitar just need more practice for have this beautifull interpretion
ahmad yudistira absolutely, insert mic drop!
Gear doesn't make the player...you do need a decent guitar though, something with good intonation and feel.
@@rickfeith6372 Exactly. Get a guitar that feels good on the hands and keeps pitch and an amp that can play both clean and distorted, and you don't need any more gear. As long as the hands are comfortable and the ears get proper feedback, it all comes down to skill from there.
2 of the best guitars ever!! Imo!🤘☢🤘 Marty has always had that clean tone no one else has. I could hear his playing out of a room full of other guitarst. Jason Becker...Musical Savant!! Prayers Jason!!!🤘☢🤘 Together they made sounds that you couldnt find anywhere else!! NUFF SAID!!!! CACOPHONY!!!🤘☢🤘 Jamming to "Namida!"
Both are amazing and unique guitarists but in this particular video, we see the CLEAR difference between jason and marty's playing. Of course jason has a lot more of technique than marty but marty has much more feel when he plays, his solos are like stories being told, and jason's solos are much more of a technique showdown, as you can see he relies on arpeggios and fast picking most of the time, while marty focus more on the storytelling of his solo. Marty comes up with exotic melodies that are simply astonishing!
These two together are, of course, one of the best guitar duos in history!
josé guilherme thomé
You,re right man i think the same thing about marty.
Yes. I wholeheartedly agree with what you said. Marty's notes and also his tones sound like a story. If one has played electric guitar before, one should know it's not easy to pull that kind of half bends and vibrato.
Having said that, they are the best combination of two guitarists like Yin and Yang. If two guitarists have the same styles, they would end up sounding similarly.
Agreed, I enjoy the fact that they have their own distinct voices.
Marty Friedman is seven years older than Jason. It is very noticeable that Jason is still looking for his own language, and soon after he would record Perpetual Burn, which for me is one of the best electric guitar records in history. Both are amazing
If jason plays like marty...it will sounds like marty duel with himself...
I want to know the chord progression they jammed to at around the 2:14 mark. I also heard that was a common 'game' they would play with each other where one would play a chord progression while occasionally slipping odd chords to intentionally attempt to throw off the other player. I recall Jason stating that it was nearly impossible to throw Marty off because he would always manage to make any note harmoniously match any/every chord that was behind him, in spite of key! Not only does that express how badass Marty is, but man is that a fucking killer way to fortify your improv chops or what!?!?
It almost sounds akin to a 12-bar blues (I-IV-V) style progression, but without all the chord's having dominant 7th qualities.
I think it's something like E, Gbm, B, E, Ab, Dbm, Gb/Bb, C, B
I wish I had tabs for Marty’s playing on this part
@@hendrix5757 Very Marty style. No "expensive" chords.
it's E F#m B E G#7 C#m F# C B E
Jason wasn't even near what he would have been capable of! I'm so glad he still writes
Jason and Marty were one hell of a duo!
Enjoy the music, a lot more fun than comparing who’s better at this and/or that. Thank you for the upload!
Thanks to guys like you and RUclips, I found the holy Grail..a pure Treasure! Who of us wouldn't have had the wish to be there
The ending jam is so cool. Sounds like a classical musician's interpretation of the blues. I suppose that's what it is.haha
I can never get over the insanity that is Jason Becker’s Precision
this my friends is the best example we have that you should fall on your face many times over and over improvising to backing chords and creating new melodies and taking risks instead of finding the root of each chord and sweeping over it. marty advanced in his playing, jason stayed the same. having said that, jasons technical skill when it comes to said sweeping and fast picking is off the charts
I hope you know that Jason's guitar career ended by like 20 years of age due to ALS. There is 7 year age gap between him and Marty. Jason was clearly still looking for his own phrasing/language at the time video was recorded. It only comes with age. Between Perpetual Burn and later post-ALS compositions one can only imagine what Jason would have sounded like today.
This sounds amazing!
Jason's speed and technique+Marty's soul ( that the curlyhead sold to goddamn devil)
Cool this what Bill And Ted dreamed of EXCELLENT !
Marty Friedmand monstro, bends e vibratos de outro mundo!
what is a bend
Happy birthday Jason Becker
Marty is the greatest guitarist on the planet.................Soul factor off the charts, Jason is amazing too and together they are the best duo I have ever heard................we got cheated, Jason got cheated........imagine what they would have done over these years.
From the first second virtuouso guitar 🎸 playing awesome
Very impressive
Marty and Jason are God's in the flesh 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Both are unbelievable talents. I personally favor Marty's playing his expressiveness is legendary
Freaking awesome
I really love to listen when i saw jason playing guitar.. nice jam with marty 😍😍
This cacophony of guitar shredding...these guys are animals!
This video is historic art
They compliment each other so... wow!
There both the true guitar 🎸 heroes!! Y’all Rock 👍😎🎸🤘
Marty is clearly controlling this season taking the lead you can feel every note what a brilliant guitar player it's a pleasure listening what a talent
every time I pick up my guitar I think of you cos you are cool fuc love you too bits and mart stay strong cool dude your work is amazing
Сколько времени прошло, а переплюнуть их так и некому...
The guy in back is just stoked to be there. lol. I would be to.
Both are equally Gods, please no comparison......
Love them both so much, but Marty's night for sure. Breathtaking melodic solos vs straight out shred. Marty's heart and instrument are one already. Jason hasn't got there yet.
Do u even heard carefully the licks Jason plays in here? Almost very cacophony fan knows that as Marty said a lot of times: "Jason is not only about technique, its about his melody and content he had to bring to the table"
When you hear melodies as Altitudes, Temple of the absurd (which i know marty plays in it but he only plays the second solo, the rest of the song with hits with such a beautiful melody its from jason, you can hear the whammy bar on the licks), Mabel Fatal Fable intro, Opus Pocus, End of the beginning, Serrana, and i could continue giving a lot of examples to give you where Jason knows how to phrase such beautiful licks. Listen to black stallion, continue listening carefully to his music and you'll see how gifted he was :) On this one you also gotta hear him playing his licks, he may add arpeggios but anyone will literally agree and say to you that Jason is the only guy who could sweep creatively and fit his solos with it. And it does. Just pay attention to the improvisation on Black Cat and the blues improv and you'll notice how he keep it musical and according to the solo he is playing. He is literally also the only one who could make sweep sound beautiful and sweet lol Ask that to anybody and they'll tell you that lmao. Gotta admit that Marty is a beast on melodies, but Jason was also on that level of melody :).
@@madden7732 nah bruh, in this one, Jason is lacking a lot. He just goes back and forth on the same scale and chords, not making much of them either. Thats why he sounds so bland. I mean, his technique is flawless, amd he has some great sonfs, but on this one Martys, improvisation was way better
@@lucianoramirezmunoz4503 I think that on Black Cat's jam Marty went more soulful than Jason, no question about that, even though Jason had beautiful licks on it also, lets not forget we talking about makin music, which are the most important thing. Of course, scales use are important, but at the end of the day, learning scales its just a tool brought to musicians to make music, so lets not focus on how many scales is he using and lets hear more about melody :). As I said, for me Marty went more soulful on Black Cat, but on the Blues Jam Jason did a better improvisation than Marty's. At the end of the day, lets not forget that this are just our opinions :) We all have different tastes and one melody can touch us more than the other one. At least for me on this video the scoreboard went: Black Cat: Marty>Jason
Blues Jam: Jason>Marty
@@madden7732 yeah I can agree to that. But still, I find Martys solo on Black Cat to be one of the most beautiful things Ive heard. Guess thats why Im kinda byass towards his side
@@lucianoramirezmunoz4503 Yeah, thats for sure. Jason and Marty for me are the best dual guitar ever. No one can touch how soulful and fast they were. Stilk untouched for me to this day.
love this video. never realized how big jason hands were, and i'll never get how marty can pick like that, but how do you argue with what you hear? they were just getting warmed up, these two were the best duo ever.
This gave me chills.
My face literally melted off.
Clean and sharp, on point.
These guys are still unbeatable.
HEAVENLY!
I love Marty and Jason but why do so few know about Vinnie Moore and Tony MacAlpine who both had Shrapnel releases at the same time as Dragon's Kiss and Perpetual Burn that were arguably as good if not better? I dare anyone to listen to Mind's Eye and Time Odyssey by Vinnie and especially Maximum Security by Tony and debate me. I love all 4 guys and have all the original cassettes and CDs . But Vinnie and Tony are somehow often overlooked. Strange.
If you check my channel, you will find some amazing Tony Mcalpine live stuff :) Tony is an amazing musician. And he battled cancer!!! Saw him liv many times!
Прекрасно, послушала с огромным удовольствием!
I dont know how I missed Becker growing up,we are the same age but I cannot play my Guitar like a Piano like these two, I'm trying all this with My Jackson wow Becker amazes me to the 3rd degree wow, makes me wanna play bass from now on LoL
I praise Marty Friedman all day, but Jason Becker was absolut insane...
I Watch This Video at Least Once A Month
Those two were already way overpowered at this time.
Jason has said there were nights were marty outplayed him. best guitar duo ever!!!! so stop with Jason was miles ahead they were great.
+dodge peters stop comparing anyways, you can love everyone jason, marty, yngwie, gilbert, edvh and lynch etcetcetc
+Alexander Kohlhepp I said they were both the shit!! its my opioion so piss off. go get ur shine box!!!!
dodge peters lol i love the internet, somebody writes something humble and gets flamed by a geek
+dodge peters calm down he wasn't being rude
+dodge peters marty definately was better when it came to improvisation. He himself said that was an area that jason was lacking in. so yeah, i agree :) about improvisation. When it comes to composition itself, marty is a god but jason is more impressive imo.
Ah the peacock in its natural habitat searching for a mate...!
perpetual burn was iconic and creative, but it's painfully clear that Marty influenced Jason's songs and was the main writer in cacophony. Sorry jason fanatics, but Marty was the man in that duo. love u jason.
Jason Nolte Marty influenced Jason but perpetual burn album is way better than anything Marty has ever done. And speaking of cacophony, Marty doesn’t have a single song he has written just by himself but Jason has images. Imo in cacophony Jason had equal role as compared to Marty if not more. I’m not putting down Marty , I love him but u can’t just disrespect becker without knowing shit. Peace.
that's bs. Marty has the ninja, savage, floating world, sword of the warrior and desert island. and it really is not debatable whether Marty wrote almost all of speed metal symphony. go off was more collaborative. it's really not a competition, as they're both at that level where it's really just about preference. one is not better than the other.
guitar battles live desert island is done by both of them if not only Jason. Remember that solo? Do you actually think Marty played it? And as far as sword of the warrior is concerned , it has more Jason vibe. The main melody of speed metal sympohony is also made by Jason (hint : 1986 jam). I mean.... Marty also did a lot of it. It’s not like one of them did more than the other but just that I enjoy Jason parts more than Marty parts ,that’s why I focus more on those. Jason is the best for me and Marty is a close second. Isn’t it just amazing how these 2 great talents came together?

these are the album credits. Jason obviously plays the solo from 3:35-3:48 in desert island, but the rest is Marty. but you don't get songwriting credit for playing a solo, hence why Marty is not credited on images even though he plays the first big solo. and that's also why he barely has any songwriting credits on the early megadeth records. but there's obviously no beef here. we pretty much agree, except Marty is my number one and Jason a close second. like i said, at this level it really is just preference. it just bothered me a bit because i have the album with the credits written on it.
why compare the two? both of them are great and unique in their own style, marty being more exotic/unorthodox and jason more technical in his ways. Marty said that Jason is his inspiration for waking up every morning, so why are you two comparing them?
Iconic asf💯
I Love, Enjoy, and am Comforted by Musical Guitar Riffs, That Hold EMOTIONS and Are Soothing.----10 Thousand Notes Being Scrambled sounding the same as a Bag Full of Broken- Metal-Objects Falling On The Floor, Ah, No Thanks.(I'm hearing The Same Old Scrambled-Screech)Is This some kind of RACE to See who can Get There Faster??? Does anybody have the chord progress or even the scale name from 2:12?
Its the outro of Black Cat, by Cacophony. You can google the tabs
Poor Jason.
What the hell you are!
Well... Now he 's a legend so...
I know Marty was very much about clean playing. Don't hide behind the distortion. Jason trumped Marty in a lot of ways. Sweeping Jason mastered the master.
Jason el 1💪
I love marty's bend
Cooooool bends by Jason too
It’s very saddening to realize how much talent he has!!!!!? And then to slowly lose the ability to play the music 🎼 that’s in his head!!!!!? And then they have made a great way to write the music that’s in his soul!!!!!!!!?” And hopefully by now the computer’s that is out there now!? Can really translate the music 🎶 that he’s writing ✍️ in his mind!!!!!!!!!? And I really truly enjoyed the music that he’s played with different characters in the rock and heavy metal music world!!!!!!!!! God bless you all today Shalom

Someone there please make a proper studio cover for the black cat outtro part. That is my all time favorite.
People talk about how clean Jason plays the guitar. Upon further review, you can see and hear he misses many notes. He misses all the notes he doesn’t want played or heard 😉
Las ideas de Jason son mas enriquecedoras e interesantes, sabe que notas tocar y como colocarlas, a diferencia de lo convencional y pentatónico de Marty que hace un repaso de ida y vuelta de la escala. Mucho oreja de chancho por aquí
