Hi Joko! I am a huge fan of your videos, but I do have one suggestion. If you right click your 'view' in the technical drawing and click "toggle frames" it will hide all of the reference points that are removing clarity from your drawing. Hope this helps people!
Thats a great tutorial on creating exploded assemblies in FreeCAD and using them in a technical drawing. This will enable small manufacturers to use FreeCAD in a productive way!

Great video, thanks for showing that. Looks like FreeCAD needs a lot of work with TechDraw workbench optimizations, it is crazy to see how much time it takes to add a single item to a view. How long did you take to record the whole video?
I don't recall how long, it wasn't too bad though. Usually the views are instant but it does start taking some time when working with medium and larger assemblies.
I have no experience with other CAD packages so maybe this is normal but I can't believe how slow FreeCAD is to render and redraw geometry for the drawing. Also watching you position that detail bubble by adjusting coordinates numerically... man, that was painful 😂. I fully expected that you'd just drag the circle around with your mouse and the magnified view would update in real-time. Made me feel like it was 1994 or something.
It's usually pretty instant but assemblies with a lot of topology will slow the system. FreeCAD has pretty amazing advancements with every version, techdraw particularly. Maybe some updates there are in the works.
Trust me, it's a lot better than 1994. I was around then using AutoCAD v.12, Windows version (yes, there was a DOS version for AutoCAD before then), and Solid Edge & SolidWorks were yet to come out. FreeCAD is a lot further ahead than 1994.
It's interesting that I don't have that much of a problem on loading stuff, I'm also making a techdraw with quite a lot of lines inserted from complex models and yes, I've got a quite nice computer but the processor is not _that_ much of a monster and I get stuff loaded in a few secs, and I don't think they have improved that much in the last 11 months XD. Just my personal experience.

I haven't tried it with assembly 4; if you're able to explode it in the way in the video I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Nice video. After you insert an exploded view how do you lock it so when you unexplod the chair the view doesn't come back together?
Is it possible to add insertion axes to tech draw?
Interesting tutorial, thanks! It seems as though FreeCAD doesn’t know which part is which when you insert ballon’s, is that correct? I would have thought it should be smart enough to know the part you select is a particular one in the list. Maybe I’m expecting too much. I’m thinking about what happens when you modify the assembly and add a new part. Apparently you need to make sure you everything the way you want it before getting to this point.
I haven't modified too many assemblies, but as of right now I would probably default to re-inserting the entire view. You're right, the balloons do not yet have a link to the parts in the assembly. That would be cool. There have been a lot of good improvements to techdraw in the last editions of FreeCAD, perhaps these things will be next.
This view is extremely leggy. Hard to work with. I need to disable the automatic view update to be able to work on it. It has trouble to hide or not to include overlapping lines. I have a simple 2x40 THT pin header and from the side view instead of 1 line it draws 80 lines on top of each other. This creates lag.
I have a couple of questions, is it possible to clone a drawing and subject the clone to changes without affecting the original ? The other question is, can I draw cable and plumbing routing in a drawing, (NOT PCB design) this is to show electricians and plumbers where the services are to be run/routed and what components are to be used at the termination points. (Nb: I have used MS VISIO for this but it is no longer available).
Is there any way to show the insertion dashed lines as _dashed_ in techdraw? I've tried by inserting them directly from the Exploded Assembly's objects but they get inserted as continuous lines, which is definetely not quite good.
Hi... really helpful tutorial.Do you think what made the insertion of the assembly into drawing page really slow is because of the fasteners...i read about fasteners and its effect when importing them into techdraw even when the thread is set to false... please i would really love to se how it fast the assembly is imported without the bolts...Thanks.
I agree- fasteners slow things down. Things are very close to being instant when there are no fasteners
@@JokoEngineeringhelp true...If that is the case, I think it would be really nice to have a personal part library of fasteners built using something like the part design workbench. Each bolt or nut wouldn't have any thing like a threaded feature...just cylinders, chamfers and fillets. It's an idea I thought about because I read on the forum that setting the thread of fasteners imported from the fasteners wb to false doesn't really have much effect...I would love to know what you think about this or if there is some other way to work around it...Thanks

Hey, just a comment your audio. It's generally fine but I'm hearing what sounds like the characteristic twinkling artifacts of heavy noise reduction. Is this intentional?

Is there a way to hide the black circles around points? They are disturbing the drawing, and they are not necessary - in my opinion...
You may already know this, but the black circles at the points are used as selection handles for dimensions and what not. They are not meant to show up in the final drawing, only for users selections. These can be taken out of the view by selecting the drawing view, going to HLR Parameters in the left menu and changing the Coarse View to true. This may affect your ability to select certain points with this setting on.
